The Ridge
On Tuesday, May 20th, we are all recovering from such a lovely long May 2-4 weekend. Ha! NOT! We are recovering but it isn’t from heat and the great outdoors! Oh well, enough of that. Today is gorgeous, at least it will be once the light layer of frost is gone. Bring it on, the good weather, I mean.
The sky was mostly clear with just a few white smatterings of clouds across our area to the east. Bill left at 7 in a bit of a rush, and by 7:15 I was on my way with a cup of tea in one hand and our duvet, my purse and bleach in the other. I’ve been forgetting to take the duvet for the last week.

Nice to be able to hang things
again.
When I arrived, there was no one at the Mat which allowed me to move a bit quicker. I knew I wanted to wash the whole floor today rather than just spot wash, which I’ve had to do when there were so many customers in there doing laundry. One lady did come in but I was already bringing out the bucket. π

The rain is helping the farmers too.
Already we are seeing something green
coming up in the field behind us.
With such a lovely day afoot, I brought the duvet home along with a nice white cloth shower curtain with rings to hang on the line. The curtain has been there for a few days in a place where it was being offered. I don’t need it but I washed it and will ask M if he wants a new one for the apartment since it is in really nice condition.

Cutting around the gardens helps
Bill to know where to stop
M had asked if I would run him into town for his errands today so I picked him up at 10 and off we went. After his 4 stops, we turned for home. With cash in my pocket, I felt I was back on track for the summer. I made my bp coffee at home and had my quesadilla along with it.

Setting up the Bocce ball court,
I had a supervisor the whole time
from the shady sidelines
When that was done, Gibbs and I went outside. I wanted to do some weed trimming, since we’d be getting 3 or 4 days of rain starting tomorrow. Wonderful. ☹ Bill hooked up the hose from the rain barrel to our hand water pump so I was at least able to fill the watering cans easier now – allowing me to use that rain water.

After I trimmed up on the
berm, again Gibbs approved.
Well, weed trimming was not in the cards. After adding gas to my Featherlite, the pull cord got jammed and I knew I wouldn’t be using it today. I returned the gas to the can and got my half-charged mower out again. I went up the berm and cut around the small gardens at least.

Gibbs and I walked for the mail
and I kept him distracted from this
water snake as we walked by.
Bill and I talked about setting up a ‘temporary’ bocce ball court here at the Ridge, we’ve said it ever since our first or second winter. We loved playing it at Pilot Knob Rv Resort in Winterhaven and, now again, at Yuma Lakes Resort this spring. So, until my mower died again, I cut a swath 12’ x 60’ long to resemble a court up on the berm.

We sure haven't seen many of these
little critters this spring.
Can you see her on the log?
It isn’t completely level and without barriers, which we won’t bother with, balls could roll over the edge to the parking area. Oh well, now we just need to convince guests to participate! My right shoulder blade area (trapezius muscle?) was a bit sore this morning after fighting to get that R of S out of the ground, but this helped work it out. π Nothing else is bothering me. Ahem! ♥
I put things away when I’d gone as far as I
could and staked the corners to show Bill. It just might work! Bill was home
early and Gibbs and I were sitting outside when he drove up the lane. I had my
netted hat on for most of the day and long sleeves but I’m feeling a bit itchy
tonight as I write. Hmmm.

| The corral garden not so much. Until the primrose bloom, it is usually dull. Bill keeps the grass cut around it though. |
For supper, we had wieners/hot dogs and beans with the last taste of the strawberry rhubarb crisp. I’m glad I thought to add strawberries or we’d only have had one night to enjoy the rhubarb, 2 cups doesn’t go very far. After the dishes were done, Bill decided to go get a bladder full of water. Our gauge was ready 0 (zero).

A quick, poor man's supper.
It hit the spot.
This was a good day. I know the frost warnings are done for the week but I’m still hesitant to put my plants in the grow bags yet. It looks like 2 of the tomatoes are not doing well and I’m not sure why. Good thing I got them so cheap! π We didn't get as warm as the forecasters thought, but did reach a pleasant 15C/59F with a low of 7C/44F overnight.

Could be a lovely sunset later
but these are what I've got so far.
I hope you had some nice weather today too. I got a bit of weeding done as well and that makes me happy. I wrestled with replacing the duvet cover on that fresh smelling duvet and it will keep us warm tonight. π
Thank you for your visit!

Sounds like a lovely day. We had rain for most of the day along with cooler temperatures. I really need to get out and do some planting and harvesting of the rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It was a pretty nice one. At least the rhubarb is easy to harvest!
DeleteMy trapezius is screaming at me too. I've been flinging too many big bags of dirt and manure in a reckless manner. I managed to get a load of bedding and kitchen linens dried on the line today though. We get a little over zealous these first nice days, don't we?
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, we get quite excited and then overdo it. Oh well, usually worth the following aches and pains!
DeleteSnakes? You have snakes??? You have never shown one before!!! Seems like a lot of work to keep everything trimmed up and mowed short.
ReplyDeleteBut it looks beautiful!!!!
DeleteYes, we have snakes but non poisonous ones. Usually garter snakes, harmless.
DeleteI grew up on a lake so your first picture is.....Wonderful :))
ReplyDeleteNow living in a city so appreciate all your green yard photos! Thank you :))
Thank you, pond pictures with sun and reflections are usually my favourite too. You're welcome!
DeleteIt seems we're sending our wet weather towards you. But not until we get a day of rain today, and then a warm up is expected tomorrow. I'm looking forward to some sun!
ReplyDeleteYou are better forecasters than our actual weather people. haha. What you get, we get so keep the blogs coming!
DeleteThis works great, so easy. You can find a YouTube video.
ReplyDelete“Figuring out how to put on a duvet cover by yourself can be a challenge, but the easiest way is the burrito method. Start with your cover inside out, place the duvet on top, attach the corners, then roll the entire thing up like a burrito. Flip the corners back so they're right side out, then unroll the duvet”
That is exactly what I do, however, my duvet is always bigger than the cover and is very bulky squeezing it into the opening. It doesn't unroll.........I have to grab the bottom and shake but it works! Thank you!
DeleteNow why can't we have a full four months of days like Tuesday!?
