It Can be Quite Depressing!

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 1st, we jumped into a new spring month. Other than a few days here and there, it sure doesn’t seem like we’ve even begun that season. A tease here and there just doesn’t cut it when day after day, or night after night, temperatures could drop to the freezing mark.

Good morning!
As promised, last night's pretty sunset

We may be past that now but today was certainly a downer. We woke up to a cool, overcast 4C/39F. Bill readied for work, even though the forecast was calling for rain around 10. Who knows what it will do, so he went to meet Billy at the worksite in Ayton.

Okay, moving on into a new month.
Looks a whole lot different than what
we had today!
She's cute, huh?

Gibbs and I didn’t have to go anywhere or do anything, which was a good thing because it remained cool and wet for much of the day. I am a sucker for punishment, apparently, and when I came across yet another keto ‘bread’ recipe, I had to try it. They make it sound and look so convincing but in my hands, nope.

More bird watching today.
I love the Blue Jay pose on the left.

This Brown Thrush/Thrasher was up on the berm.

To provide a bright light on this dull day
introducing Mr. Goldfinch.

Another small bird appeared in the yard.
He looked like this kinglet but I'm not sure if
they hang out up here.

This was to be a cheddar flat/pita bread. Hmm, maybe, I thought. It didn’t take many ingredients, in quantity, only 2 eggs were broke in my attempt. I should have quit before I started because they don’t look like a flat bread and they sure don’t taste like ‘real’ bread. Oh well, maybe I’ll just melt cheese on them to eat them up.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

Rather them continue to discourage myself, I got out my paper quilling. For the moment, this is the only hobby I am interested in working on. Eventually, I’ll get back into some crocheting, painting and puzzling but for right now, I’m in paper mode. 😊 No surprise when Bill drove up the lane at 10:30, it had already started raining here lightly.

No luck with a clear picture of the
little rascal today.

We all dozed in our chairs even though I thought I would read some more. After two chapters, my head was back and mouth open. Egads! I walked down to put the invites in the mail while the rain was on hold. We had our lunch, my fried zucchini and some cheeses with one of the recipe flops, and Bill just had toast and p.b.

Nary a day goes by when I'm not
smiling at this special little boy.

Still dry out, Bill went out to cut some of the viny (what is it F.G. called them?) red brush by the Hangar and whatever else he could cut to clean things up. It is annoying as all get out, preventing us from walking close to the pond, and isn’t easy to get rid of.

Bill took a chance and went out before
the heavy downpour.

When we heard thunder, he put the chain saw away and came inside. The rain kept us huddled inside after that. I quilled, just for fun, and Bill and Gibbs went upstairs to watch a movie.

How appropriate was this song today?

Supper was fish and chips for him and fish and B. sprouts for me. It was quite filling and we didn’t need dessert. Good thing, I didn’t have enough strawberries cut up.

It was another good meal.
How did those fries get on my plate??
Ha ha, just a wee taste, they looked so good
on Bill's.

After clean up, we’ll do our evening thing of watching tv and/or reading. It hasn’t warmed up a whole lot today (10C/51F) but at least we won’t be dropping below 7C/45F overnight. This is getting a bit depressing, I must say, and I’m not one to give into that nonsense! Soon, is all we can say. I still had a good day, inside doing my thing.

A lesson for me today.
With all the 'stuff' going on and
with all the weather crap,
I'll continue to be happy
NOW.
Good night!

Thank you for visiting!

  1. The weather sure can put a kink in your plans. Sorry about the "bread". I must have rubbed off on you a bit. Slice it in half, toast it and make mini pizzas. At least the flavor will be masked!! Ask me how I know.

    1. Ha ha, are you rubbing off on me? I can think of worse things!

  2. I'd better acknowledge that those Red Osier Dogwoods can be troublesome on your own property. Mrs. F.G. just appreciates them as a sign of spring. And I should reassure you that those of us who stay here year round are equally frustrated with the cold wet weather! Myself more than most! Yesterday I would have got soaked coming home from lunch downtown if I hadn't arranged a ride!

    1. Ha! Yes, they can be troublesome but the colour sure is a sign of spring!
I'm sure everyone is annoyed with the weather, regardless of how long we're here. We can only hope that SOOOOON, it will change.

  3. We started today off with a thick fog and a temperature just above freezing. Now it is 21C and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. Hope this travels your way.

    God bless.
