The Ridge
On Tuesday, May 6th I don’t think there are any family birthdays to recognize and no special holidays, Mexican or otherwise. π I was up at 7 and out the door with my tea and 2 empty water bottles by 7:30. It was a mixed sun/cloudy morning and a hint that we might get a thunderstorm today.
I cleaned the Mat in my normal time and other than the local homeless gal, I had no customers. She stopped by for 15 minutes and left. I hadn’t seen her for a couple of years, other than walking through town last summer. She did not create an issue, although a complaint came in (slipped under the office door) that I had to report to Sandy.
Before returning home, I stopped at the Water Store/Battery Pro to fill our 5-gallon water jugs. I had a nice little chat with Mark, the owner, while there and rumour has it that the Mat IS for sale. Hmm, interesting. As I drove home, the sky showed a bit of promise. So, I was content with my decision to hang a sheet and comforter from the Lost & Found on our line rather than wait for a dryer.

Three loads like this cleared things up
Bill
didn’t have any work today so got a propane bottle filled and did some work on
our disposal water hoses. When I got home from cleaning, I used my wagon to
take 3 trips over to the brush pile and got rid of the mess I made yesterday.
Glad that is done, it is tiring.

| Our Wyze camera captured Gibbs and I relaxing while Bill dozed upstairs |
At 11, we drove into town together to see our accounting guy about our income taxes. We knew they’d be late, that is what happens when you go away for the winter, but were glad to have that dealt with. Bill owes but I got a refund. It all comes in and goes out of the same pot. π

The big garden comes to life
My second daffy amongst the purple
I usually have more blooms but this
seems to be this years extent.
Neither of us felt like doing much at all after that and with my Coffee, pb, banana smoothie, I wasn’t hungry for lunch. Bill made a sandwich and we lazed around for a bit. The black flies are hungry and that is a discouragement in itself for going outside. After he went out, I went up and watched a movie, something I seldom do in an afternoon!

This is my only source of water so far.
We had enough rain to date to half fill the barrel.
Bill borrowed Dot and Gord’s Stihl weed whacker (with good blades) to try it on some of our brush and worked at that for half hour. He made great progress, something that would take us a couple of hours with my loppers and his chain saw. We did a bit of clean up and called it a day. For work, at least. π

When I went out to sit around 4 pm,
there were very few black flies and it was lovely!
I
sat with Gibbs and my book for a while, the wind was keeping the bugs at bay,
and Bill went to the Hangar.
See what I mean?

These are just a few of the bigger
'small' trees that Gord's trimmer cut.
We'll either borrow again or find
the blades to fit our Stihl.
At 5, I left him out there in full view and came in to start supper. Meatloaf, fried potatoes and vegetables tonight. It will have to fill us as I don’t have anything for dessert.

Another successful, filling meal.
I'm glad I have gravy to eat up these rolls.
Although, I couldn't eat all the cauliflower.
The day turned out great! Clear blue sky with just a band of low-lying white fluffy clouds on the horizon. We reached a high of 17C/63F and dropping to a temperate 8C/47F overnight. Last night was perfect for sleeping. We are finally getting to the temperatures we expect for May, with just a few more cool nights to get through and we can put our Blue Flame heater away. Yay!

| Bill took these pictures of our Oriole when I was in town this morning. Such a gorgeous colour! Good night! |
I
hope you’ve enjoyed your Tuesday. Thank you for popping in.

Those birds are so gorgeous. Yard work is hard, but I suppose the results are always nice.
ReplyDeleteAren't they?
DeleteYard work is worth it, I'm sure.
Goodness, the new guy hasn't owned the Mat for very long. I'm sure, assuming it is sold, that the new owner will keep you on. You know the routine and do a great job.
ReplyDeleteI've read that Fannie Flagg book, and really enjoyed it!
Removing all that brush will give you a nice view of the pond again! Well done.
ReplyDeleteBlue sky, green grass and Gibbs = Perfect! Cute picture of you two!
I'm hoping to see more of the pond this summer..we'll see.
DeleteThank you!
Wow, so if the rumor is true, the new guy has only owned the Mat for a little over a year, perhaps two at the most. I am still looking for our orioles I really miss them.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Sandy bought in 2022, 3 winters, I know it doesn't seem that long.
DeleteTuesday was a really nice day, but today was a little cool in the morning!
