A Great Day, Visitors Pop By

The Ridge

Okay, here we are again, back writing in Blogger. On Thursday, June 5th I woke, once again, from a great sleep. Didn't hear the alarm, didn't hear my boys get up and go out at 5:30. Not a peep until 6:25. Perfect! I did do my exercises and then got up to go through my ritual, just like Bill had been doing.

Good morning!
Actually, again, this is last night
after supper.
Cool air meets warm air, I guess.

He left at 6:40 and I left for the Mat at 7. Gibbs stayed home to look after the house. 😉 Just one customer when I arrived, Mr. Chatty (but a nice man) and then after he left, Sherry (the lady who lives in her van) came in. She's a pleasant lady too and is finding it quite enjoyable having her own bed, wherever she goes and stays. Boondocking, she is, here in Ontario.

Heavy skies on my drive this morning

When I left the Mat, I got water, chatted with Mark about my lawn mower battery and drove further to the hardware store. I wanted to meander through their 'home styles' section for something unique. I didn't find it - yet. I may go back tomorrow afternoon for another peek. I also stopped at North Wellington Co-op when I saw some plants out on a sales rack.

Look at that gorgeous fern!
It was kind of him to give me the deal
after I offered to put it back.
This all after he informed me that they had a
break in last night. 😠

Well! For $14.99 I'd pick up a couple more. One was a beautiful fern and the other a red geranium with dying flowers. Turns out that the fern shouldn't have been on there but John, the manager, gave it to me for the same price anyway, regular price $24.99! I offered to put it back and he said it was their fault. 😀

I'm cold, Mom
so thank you for the sweater.

Back home, under still cloudy skies, I walked around with Gibbs. Holy cow! I was feeling fine today. 💖 Bill had asked if I would please wipe up the water in Mike's trailer. When his slide is out, there is a spot somewhere that rain gets in and we are all trying to pinpoint the problem. It's a mystery, but I went out put it out enough to get in and clean up the water from the table and trim. Then I brought the slide back in, for now. I wasn't sure if we would be getting rain today or not.

How about a blankey too?
His whole body was shaking.

Then, Gibbs and I came inside and I noticed the little fella was shivering. 😟😞 It wasn't cold outside nor inside but it was that damp feeling and with no fur left on his little body, he was obviously cold. I found his flannel sweater and covered him up in my quilt until he settled down and snoozed. Poor little munchkin.

Not spoiled at all.

I got out my paper quilling and worked away at making more greeting cards. It feels good having a few already prepared for those short notice occasions (or forgetful ones!). Just before noon, as I was finishing my coffee, my sister, Gayle, called. They were in Markdale, about 10 minutes away, and were going to pop in for a short 'hello'. Good! If I'd discovered they were that close and not stopping.....well, she'd be in deep doodoo. 😂 They live over an hour away now so we don't see them often.

This was hilarious.
Chippy ran into this 15' pipe.
Gibbs knew he was in there but
couldn't get at him. I'm sure
Chippy was out the other end,
long gone. Cute to watch though.

While waiting for them, Bill drove in the lane. That was nice as he got to visit as well before they left 45 minutes later. We had our lunch together and I carried on with my paper and Bill went out to do a few small jobs. Our mailbox post got hit with the snowplow over the winter so he wanted to secure a couple of boards on that and then he hung the motion dector solar light on the outhouse. In a different spot this time, hoping it will get more sun.

Gibbs jumped up here a couple of times this morning
on his own.
Now, it is just IMPOSSIBLE, Mom!
Look at those eyes. Please give me a lift up.

He went to the Hangar until I called him up supper. Gibbs was in and out, in and out. It's humid out there so he wasn't sure where he wanted to be. Supper was ham with glaze, fingerling potatoes, corn and asparagus. Yum, it was very good and we have leftovers for a couple of nights. We cleaned up the dishes and went about our evening.

No dessert required.

There have been 2 more turtle sightings, up here, but no more laying yet. We'll keep an eye on the laneway, their favourite spot, to try and protect their nests from the skunks. I know it will be another summer of disappointments in that regard. No way can we save them when we don't know where they lay. 😞 It isn't from lack of trying, trust me.

I apologize for the poor quality picture
but I had to zoom right in with my phone camera in
order for you to see him.
He shimmied up that skinny metal pole to
get here. I guess he deserves a few nibbles!

This has been a really nice day. There have been advisories on all day regarding the air quality in areas around us and even a bit further north. The winds yesterday must have brought the smoke this way but we haven't noticed anything. When Bill and Gibbs were down at the mailbox, Dot stopped on her way to town. Gibbs was so happy to see his 'second Mom' as Bill calls her. 💕

We reached a warm 22C/72F, feeling warmer this afternoon especially if you were working outside. The black flies are still being a pest and I'm sure I'd much rather mosquitoes. I have repellent for those and I can hear them coming! It turned into a sunny afternoon and that is always wonderful. Remember that corner I mentioned a few blogs back? Well, we've turned it! 💗💗💗💗!!!

Good night!

Thank you for visiting us today.

Laundry Day, Fall Colours, Special Visitors!

The Ridge

On Saturday, Oct. 5th I slept in until 7:30, which meant I didn’t get away from the Suite, with sorted laundry until 8. Woops! Good thing I am on my own schedule. 😊 Bill was up around 6:30 and left soon after me for the flying field. His flying days are numbered, not only because of the weather but because his friends, who have trailers in a park nearby, close up shop there and stay home for the winter.

Good morning!
It didn't take long for the sun to burn the frost off.

It was definitely a frosty morning but not terribly so. I’m glad I covered my tomato and pepper plants regardless. Our berm and the far-off fields were slightly white with it and Black Beauty’s tonneau cover confirmed it. So, it was a cold start to the day. The sun was beating down soon after rising and it heated things up quickly.

The clothes would dry quickly (and they did). I was going to cut grass in my area but decided to wait until mid-week, it wasn’t really long yet. It could wait a few days and then it will be the last time this year.

Ch-ch-chilly

There was no one at the Mat, enabling me to do a ‘clean sweep’, so to speak. I was removing our clothes after cleaning when a regular customer came in. Enough time to say hello and goodbye. I drove to Foodland to pick up a dozen eggs, which we will eat before we leave or hard boil them at least, and then to fill our water jug. I stopped at the hardware store to pick something up for M and then scooted home. Bill was home from the field by 12:45 and we had our lunch together.

When I got home from town, I removed the tomato
cover
Look at that sky!

I looked out at one point and Bill was pulling on the small tree right out in front of the Suite so I took that as a sign to move my box planter of mint out of the way. 😊 We have wanted to get these 2 small trees out because they were bitten by a frost a few years ago AFTER they had started to blossom. Leaves are only at the very top now and last year one branch came down onto my new bird feeder stand. They aren’t very strong and don’t provide any shade anymore. Nor do they blossom.

After saying there were mostly browns here,
suddenly, colours started popping all around us.

I did some clean up of small branches and twigs from the big tree we took down yesterday while Bill cleaned his cargo trailer’s solar panel and straightened up a few things in the Hangar. He just finished cutting down the smallest tree I mentioned above when our company arrived. Bill’s 3rd daughter, Krystal, and our youngest grandson, Alexander, drove in about 3:30. We were so happy that we could all squeeze a visit in before we left. He is growing so fast!

They are looking quite lovely.

I had put a blanket out with toys from a toy box I’ve ‘created’ for just this occasion. We sat on it and watched the little guy, who is 16 months old, entertain us. He was more interested in his own tractors but that's okay. 💗 Gibbs is very excited with anyone arriving and Bill and I are timid of how strong he is with a little gapher walking around. So, we kept him on a leash until he settled down and eventually put him inside so we could relax. Alexander liked him but it was just what we felt better doing. 😊

Every once in a while, Alexander would get up and walk to their
car. Just checking, I guess. It became a game to him because we
all laughed and/or chased after him.

He had to go check out the twirly things.
Stepping carefully over Grandpa's tree branches.

Quite the little cutie.

They left after a couple of hours and it was a great visit. He is such a little character with the cutest little grin and chuckles. Okay, we laughed a lot. I remembered to get some pictures of the 3 generations before they left.♥

These are my favourite.
Beautiful pictures of Krystal and Bill
and cute little smiles from the little guy.

These were the more serious ones but
Alexander was getting tired of all the posing.

Bill grilled sausages for supper and we both had them in a bun to clean the buns up from the fridge. They were very good. It’s Saturday night, so following a tradition from years ago, we may even have some chips and cheese a bit later. Supper was early and we may feel like a nibble. No surprise that our clothes were mostly dry by noon hour so I would removed them from the line bit by bit throughout the afternoon. Soon, I won't be able to hang them so these nice days are appreciated.

All settled in his car seat for the hour long drove home.

This was a really nice day – again. Seems we are having a lot of those! We reached a nice temperature of 17C/64F, when the wind died off, in the sun, it felt warmer than that. Lovely.

A yummy sausage on a bun for supper.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.

A Morning in Town, Afternoon Visitors

The Ridge

On Saturday, Aug. 10th, I woke up to darkness but I could hear Bill downstairs getting things ready. Actually, he was almost ready to leave and was coming up to the bedroom to say goodbye. It was only 5:30 so I don’t know what time he got up. Today, he had a Fun Fly at his London flying club and he had the cargo trailer hooked up, ready to go. 😊 The weather wasn’t necessarily going to be conducive to flying BUT it was going to be a fun, social day for him regardless.

Good morning!
This was the eastern sky last night after supper.
Yet the sunset to the west was nothing to write about.

These are flying friends, many of whom he has been acquainted with for a number of years. I’m sure they’ll have a wonderful time. His friend (our friend), Keith would be there as well and that is great. While he was pulling out of our lot, Gibbs watched him through our window until he couldn’t see him anymore. Bye Daddy.

Bye Daddy, hurry home.

I am not sure if I dropped off fully but did doze until 6:30 when I got up. I know for sure that Gibbs fell back to sleep and while I sorted laundry, he curled up at my pillow and still slept. About 30 minutes after Bill left, it poured rain for 10 minutes and quit. It was clearer to the west, where he was headed, so that was good. It isn’t fun driving in rain. We were under a blanket, or two or three, of heavy looking clouds so I doubted we’d see much of the sun today. Forecast for rain was low though.

The day started quite lovely.
I had hope.

I was on my way to town around 7:15 with our basket of clothes and Robin’s bedspread and bath mats from Williamsford. If I’m working on Sunday for her, I’ll take them with me. Otherwise, I’ll drop them at her place. Their plans went topsy turvy last night near Sault Ste. Marie and they had to turn around after a long 7-hour drive. They made it home safely at 4 am this morning. They have tenants renting in Wingham and there seems to be a serious enough plumbing issue for them to return home.

Of course, can't forget
another Moonflower.
Look at that sky as I drove to Durham.

I cleaned the Mat while our 3 loads of laundry were being done. There were a few customers in during my last 30 minutes but when I arrived, I understood why we sometimes have a deeper love for our dogs and cats than we do people. There is a certain kind of person (persons) who can ‘innocently’ leave a mess like this and think it is OK. Unbelievable! Anyway, the floors had to be swept before I did anything as I didn’t want others to walk in on that.

The dryer sheets all over the floors.
Recycle and garbage bins crammed with everything
and anything. Bottom right: I swept it all together
before doing anything else.

It was after 9:30 when I finished up drying everything. The sky would appear to clear and then cloud over so I decided to dry and fold them before leaving. From there, I drove to the United Church on the hill to see if Ruby could cut my hair. Today, was one of 8 Saturdays that she was offering haircuts for a donation to the church. Those are my kind of deals and I can pay what I like. She is a very sweet young lady and Bill and I, both, enjoy going to her.

This nasty critter on the outside window
didn't improve my mood.
I got the BIG snow broom and swept him
down and all other webs out there. I won!
Let it rain, I don't care.

I was able to walk right in and sit down. I told her upfront (she probably could tell) that I cut my own hair – it is often my choice, rather than pay ridiculous stylist costs. She totally understood and that is why she no longer works in a salon. She volunteers her time and works at the seniors’ homes in the area for minimal. 😊 I’m very happy with the pixie-shag. Deposited my $20 and after walking around the church for her to get the ‘best’ light for a picture, I left.

then it was haircut time.
I don't have thick hair so for this much to be
on the floor, she took a lot off.
I'm very pleased and it will grow a bit before the wedding.

Maybe she should be a photographer,
she asked me to stand in behind the Hydrangeas
because they matched my shirt.

I stopped in town at the Corner Market building and found the perfect shoes to match my dress for the wedding plus the perfect cover up(s). I’m tickled pink that I took the time to stop in. For not having to pay anything for a new dress, I feel really good about my find. 😊 Back home, Gibbs was waiting for me and went out for a quick run around. The weather has cooled off and it is windy up here, so he wasted no time doing his business.

Still looking nice before noon hour
and then clouds moved in.

After a p.b. and cuke sandwich for lunch, my sister, Donna, and Gerry popped over for a wee visit. It was nice to see them. It isn’t nice enough to hang around at the Acreage either so we sat inside. Donna approves of my outfit so that cements it! Finally, a decision. Bill texted around 3 that he was leaving the field in London. I like a ballpark time so I know when to expect him and when to start worrying. LOL yes, I do worry after a certain ‘justification’ period, just like he does.

A pooped Daddy is home,
so I'm happy now, Mom. 💖

He was home by 5:45, making great time and parked the truck and trailer. He had a perfect day, even getting one flight in. 😊 Someone, not mentioning any names, was extremely happy to see him! Tomorrow looks like a washout for any outdoor stuff so he won’t be flying in the morning nor will any grass get cut up here. I wasn’t in the mood today so mine will wait until Monday afternoon.

I might make a sauce from the strawberries.

Supper was leftover chili, rolls and cheesecake with strawberries. Filling and delicious! It was a great day although we only reached a high temperature of 16C/65F today, quite the change.

The sky changed many times during the
evening hours.
This was the best part of it.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by today.

Lovely March Day, Visitors!

Park Place RV Park

On Friday, Mar. 8th we were all up by 7:15, me being the last one. 😊 It was so nice and cozy in bed and the dreams just kept coming, keeping me in slumberland. We had our ‘breakfast’ together, cereal for Bill, tea and yogourt for me. Bill left for the field to try and get a flight in before the winds increased and Gibbs and I went for our walk. The sun is so warm, even at that time of the morning. It was 51F/11C already at 8 am.

(purple, green and white)

Gibbs waits for Daddy to get out of Black Beauty
It's a hair blowing day today. 💕

I hung around until almost 10 before going to work on the puzzle. The pieces are all the same shape so I’m not getting any help with this, the most difficult part. Normally, I could sort into shapes but……not this time. I managed a few pieces but that means a five or six and I walked back home shortly after 11. I’ll have to work on it in bits and spurts so I don’t get frustrated. Gibbs and I sat outside in the sun, and wind, until Bill came home and then we had our lunch together.

And a sitting in the sun day

The northwest wind was cool, especially when the clouds moved over the sun but it wasn’t too bad at all. At 1, our visitors arrived. Doug and Yuma pulled up in their Jeep.

Happy campers, right here!

It’s nice that he is in town, just down the road actually for a couple of nights and very nice that he included us in his visiting plans. We enjoyed the covering of the gazebo and once Gibbs and Yuma settled down, (oh, I guess you’re okay), we had a great visit for 2 ½ hours. 😊

Gibbs and Yuma whisper to each other
almost at the end of the visit.

Before they pulled away, Doug unloaded a propane fire pit and ‘accessories’ that he has been carrying around for a few years. It’s ours if we want it! Yes, thank you! It is bigger than the one we had, from Suzie, and if we don’t use it here in the next 3 weeks, we’ll put it to use at home.

Gibbs checks out Doug's gift

See you next winter!

I had my tea and read a couple of chapters in the gazebo before taking Gibbs for his/our walk around the park. For supper, we had barbecued sausages, potato and vegetables.

The sky cleared out by 1 o'clock

At the west end of the park,
this is where we take our late afternoon picture.

Well, I wonder who Mr. Gibbs is looking for?
this is his buddy Gerald's home.

We reached a sunny high of 71F/21C today and dropping below 50F/10C for a couple of nights. This has been a good day.

A good supper. I skipped the potatoes
tonight.

A peek out the west facing window.

Last night, I watched an old movie that you’ll remember. La Bamba the Ritchie Valens story played by Lou Diamond Phillips. It was good and as usual, I didn’t remember seeing it before although I’m sure I must have. 😊 Not sure what I’ll find tonight.

Let's take a look at what my sister was up to today.
A stroll up the laneway at the Ridge shows
NO SNOW! It looks like some raking will be
on the agenda when we return though. 😂

And the geese have returned early. It isn't even spring yet.
Lovely!
Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.
