An Awesome Friday Together

The Ridge

On Friday, June 20th, summer arrived in a cloud of fog across our land. It was damp and wet but the rain had long stopped. Bill had the day off today, he should be taking every Friday off in my opinion. We'd manage just fine. 😃

Good morning!
Happy Summer!

I can't report that I had a great sleep last night. For some reason, driving as much as I did yesterday, my sciatica acted up and I was limping by the time I got home. It hasn't bothered me for days, a couple of weeks actually.

Can I sit on your lap, Mom?

Through the night, the opposite knee was aching like a sun of a gun. Stubborn &/or lazy me, didn't get up for some Advil or something and suffered. Sometimes I'm not the brightest crayon in the box. Oh well, I saw many hours slip by in between my dozes and I felt fine when I got up before 7. 😊

I moved my Kalanchoe plants outside yesterday.
Last night, the rain filled the pot with the
dates I picked off a Quartzsite tree.
Lots of rain, filled our water pails too.

With all aches gone, Bill and I discussed our plans for the day. He had a list of small things to take care of, dumping tanks, getting our water tank filled, weed trimming, an outlet on the Bunky to fix etc. I had my own list but it wasn't near as long.

Bill took Black Beauty into town to fill her up at .10¢/liter off and got water on his way home. I took M into town for his errand run at 10 and then I worked on a quilling plaque, that I've been trying to finish up, until noon hour. You'll see it soon enough, I'm quite proud. 💕

This puzzle was a fun one too.

He hopped on Jazz after we ate to go in pick up some hardware for the outlet and to get our bike washed. We noticed an oil drip on Friday the 13th that he wants to keep an eye on and he wanted to give her a good wash to see things better. I thought it was cute that the 2 boys (Bill and Chris) washed their wheels before our Port Dover run. 😀

The plants look good, but I think I'm
being impatient. Only 3 baby tomatoes so far.

I went up on the berm by the clothesline and compost bin to trim branches. I couldn't get to the bin without getting a face full of thorny branches and it was difficult for Bill to get close with the mower.

Bill had the branches cleaned up before
I got up to help.
Bless him, hard to slow him down!
You can see the compost bin and my clothes stool
where you couldn't before I started.

Those thorns hurt like the devil but I managed to make a huge difference. No before pix but here is the after shot. Then, with that all in a pile, I got my mower out to take care of the areas that Bill couldn't get to with the Cub Cadet. He did most of it earlier when he dumped the black tank.

Gibbs didn't see him but I thought
it is so cute the way he sits like Gibbs does.
If you can zoom in, you'll see his eyes
are on me and Gibbs - just in case.
💗

It's a hot day and the fog and clouds cleared out relatively soon in the morning. Boy, I love this kind of day! It felt like Saturday with Bill home but that just means we have 2 days left of a weekend. Yay! We were expecting company to arrive this afternoon but they called last night to cancel.

The grass and trimming is all done.
Ready for company.
I think Mike is coming out at least.

Temporarily, at least.😞 They still may make it on Sunday. Life gets in the way of plans, we've all experienced that, but we hope if not for a day this or next weekend, we'll see them soon. After cutting the lawn, Bill was home and started trimming up here.

This little guy was feeling it too.
He was so busy keeping an eye on his
humans. 💖

It was time to do my least favourite thing up here. Pull weeds out of the dreaded corral hill garden. It looks disgusting with all the tall grass and weeds, I couldn't even show you a picture. I've been neglecting it terribly. Bill said 'be careful on that hill' and I went at it.

The gate garden Primrose are
brightening things up down there.

I planted 2 dahlias at the laneway corner
of our fence (near the apple tree).
Instead of in the gate garden. They went crazy
last year but were too high, covering our new metal work.
I thought they'd  be nice nearer the corner.
The blue arrow shows where one got snipped off by
a weed-whacker. 😏
Today I see it is coming back to life!
Yay!
(Good thing I love him.)

It isn't perfect, but I can live with it. The Evening Primrose aren't as tall as the weeds were but at least now, once they bloom, the garden will be full of colour. I've put a lot of work into that plot but may have to just weed-whack it all down this fall. It is getting too hard to manage.

It was a beauty of a day to be outside.
But if we sat too long, the eyes got heavy.

I finished the puzzle while he went to the Hangar for about an hour and Gibbs and I checked the mailbox. I counted 26 holes, various sizes in the centre of the laneway, from turtles starting nests before abandoning them. So sad. Two of the 26 had shells in them and we all know what that means. 😡

Yes, a couple that I missed.
Too bad.

Bill grilled bacon cheeseburgers for supper and they were yummy. It was a drumstick kind of night so that's what we had, finishing off the Compliments brand. I won't buy them again, they never seemed to harden up like they should.

I love my fern.

After supper, Bill went to the Hangar to get his trailer ready for morning. I finished my blog and turned tv on up here. I've been watching reruns of my favourite shows and now I'm back to Jag! It's fun to see some of the early shows.

I don't mind showing you now
after I pulled weeds.
When the primrose bloom, it will be a big
improvement.

Tomorrow or Sunday, this garden in the
corral will get done. I hope.
Those tall white weeds drive me nuts!

What an awesome day! We reached a perfect (in my eyes) 23C/73F this afternoon with lovely sunshine and a normal breeze. Good day for outside work and we took advantage of that. Here are a few videos from today for you.

Let the weekend and summer begin!😍

Of course, Bill's burger.
Good night!

Thank you for popping by.

  1. Your yard always look GREAT! It sure is a lot of work to keep up with, though it's good exercise!

  3. Weeds always seem to do better than the plants we want in our flower beds. I won't be showing photos of the beds here either, until I've had time to weed. My daughter didn't do any while I was away and it has been raining off and on since I returned.
    That burger looks delicious!!

  4. Why is it that weeds always seem to grow better than the plants we want to grow? Oh well at least we all get the exercise of pulling them out.

    God bless.
