This is More Like It!

The Ridge

On Friday, May 15th I want to say TGIF but since Friday's don't mean as much to me (they do to Bill) as they used to, instead I'm going to say TGFTBD! Figure that one out! Bill was up and out the door by 7:30. Gibbs and I were up but just barely and I came down to make my tea.

Good morning!

I saw blue sky. Sunshine and very little wind. Holy cow!! A nice day for a change. I'm trying not to hang on every word by the forecaster, but we are all so anxious for some nice days that I still do. Today was going to be around 17.78C/64F and each day following until mid week, warmer still.

Gibbs and I walked down
Northline and Baptist Church Rd.
this morning.

I played my games and the Wordle words and Phrazle went off like firecrackers! Hot today, I was. πŸ˜‚ At 9, Gibbs and I walked down to put a card in the mailbox and then, on his leash, we walked to the corner and almost to M's house.

Decision time.
Which way?
He has 4 options,

At that point, he stopped and wanted to go home. He appeared confused since we turned the corner. He (we) haven't done this since we returned home so he was probably thinking of those loud big dogs at the corner. Those dogs are gone now, (?) so he walked by easier.

Last fall, Bill and I witnessed
so many baby turtles emerge from
holes in this area.
Today, I saw this.
I'm sad but hopeful that
Pepe Le Pew didn't get them all.

It was a light jacket kind of day but that all changed when I decided to do some work. I wanted to pull out my garden decor from the 3 tubs in the shed. Doing that, I got distracted and instead pulled my battery mower out and cut half of the grass before it died. I knew it wasn't fully charged.

Gibbs couldn't wait to get to the pond
for a drink.
Yes, he got dirty and then
had to roll around to dry off!

So, I plugged it in and emptied the tubs. It is always fun putting these things up on the buildings, in the gardens and along the fences in the spring. Taking them down in the fall, not so much fun. The end of a season is usually sad. At lunch, I came inside and had another poached egg on toast. So good.

I'm enjoying this lunch.

I came up with the bright πŸ’‘idea, although very late, of inviting our children for a barbecue either Sunday or Monday. This is a long weekend and both days are finally looking to be lovely enough for outdoor activity. We don't have room in the Suite for everyone if it rains so we can't plan too far ahead.

Walking the property, our
Goose the Spruce tree is
really showing his colours!
He's so healthy!

Unfortunately for us, good for all of them, they had plans both days so Bill and I will be spending the time up here together for the weekend. Works for us, we just thought it would be nice to get as many together as possible since we don't do that anymore.

This is my gift from Keith.
He made me my own woodpecker
who has a prime spot each summer
on the corner of the Bunky.
He bounces against the wood in
the wind.

Around 2:15, I was done with the tubs so finished cutting the lawn. The battery worked until I was done so the mower away, closed the shed and put the battery back on charge. I felt good about what I'd accomplished today.

The gate garden isn't growing too
fast but hostas, lilies, sedum, periwinkle
and evening primrose are coming.

I straightened things up a bit in the Bunky and brought our extra stock of kleenex, t.p. and paper towels into our cupboard in the Suite. We only take what we need with us and Costco has such bulk packing that we are well-stocked.

A few new birds today.
The blue jays come and go, lots of wrens,
finches and chickadees, mourning doves
and the orioles.
These white crowned sparrows
made an appearance this afternoon.

I have a couple of small painting jobs to do but will wait until after the gardening is done. Tomorrow is a day to go on the hunt for some tomato and pepper plants - to start. Whether I add anything else is up in the air, depending on price and the ease of caring for them.

Gibbs runs to meet me as I came
back from the mailbox.

Bill was home at 2:45 pulling Mike's trailer from Murray's where it was stored for the winter. It's nice that he decided to bring it here again this summer. I wonder if he will use it more often? πŸ€πŸ€” Doesn't matter, he doesn't have to worry about it here.

So, last night after supper, we watched Bosch reruns together and I noticed my throat was sore.😒 I made a cup of hot water with honey before bed but still had a night of restlessness. It seems when it is sore, I tend to swallow more! What is with that?

By the outhouse, a very
small evergreen has this nest.
This view is from Mama's back side
with her tail up.

I have gargled with salt water many times today and tried to forget about it. Hopefully, it won't stick around and I won't give it to Bill. I wonder where I got it, maybe the guy at the Mat. Although we were nowhere near each other, he was coughing a bit when I arrived.

When she vacated I caught
this off centre pix of her eggs.

Bill is going to Catch the Ace tonight to help count and sort tickets but I won't go. We sit fairly close to each other, those of us on the committee, and I sure don't want to share this 'bug'. I'll miss our friends but I think it is best to stay home.

Before Bill and I came in at 3:00, the blackflies were trying to have a feast on me. That is the first I've noticed them this spring and usually they have been around already for about 3 weeks. I guess that will not extend into June. Wonderful. 😟

Bill brings Mike's trailer in
and backs it in beside us.

Bill messaged when he was on his way home and I fried up a burger and a couple of hot dogs for our supper. Sheriff Country was our entertainment tonight, part of it, and it still isn't the finale. Good because we are enjoying it.

This was a great day, it feels so good to be outside working at things.

You may not notice the neater grass
but we do. I'm glad it is done up here
before the rain tomorrow.

Thank you for your visit! Happy May long weekend if you are in a province that celebrates it. It is officially called Victoria Day.

  1. I’m glad you finally had a nice day! I love your woodpecker, and those beautifully coloured eggs are amazing too. What kind of bird laid them?
