The Days off are Adding Up

The Ridge

Well, on Wednesday, June 24th Bill woke up knowing that since he hadn't heard anything from Billy last night, that meant no work today. Again those mixed feelings. I wasn't cleaning today either so we puttered around this morning. I hopped in the shower before going out.

Good morning!
Cloudy start to our hump day.

He had a few more branches that were dead or broken that he needed to take down. I held the ladder while he used his hacksaw to cut them off. The little service tree (that used to be big) has been dying off bit by bit every year. Ever since that one spring when frost hit late.

Just one lone Moonflower today.
But I counted 22 buds. Wow!

So, it is down to about 3 off shooting branches that have leaves left on them (a few) besides the main trunk. Sad, because it was a shade tree for when company came and we needed a cool place to sit in the heat and humidity of summer. Oh well.

Not much shade will be
forthcoming this summer
from that tree.
Gibbs has already claimed
the little bit there is.

We cleaned those branches up and I wandered around doing a bit of weeding. Just trying to keep on top of things now. I used the hand pump to fill a watering can from the rain barrel. The water is below the spout so this was my only hope. We are expecting a full day of rain tomorrow, so I'll be dancing (in it?) with joy!

I had some cardboard to burn
plus I like to burn some of our
piled wood, just because I can.

Bill had taken off first thing to Mike's, his boss's home, with his old table saw and a few other metal pieces we wanted to get rid of. A former co-worker takes a load for cash when there is enough to make it worth his while. Every little bit helps and we clean things up in the process. 😃

Guess who sits in the
King chair beside me?

I started a fire, to burn some cardboard that has been sitting around. Finally, it was dry enough to catch the flame and I kept the fire going most of the morning. Bill did a great job of cleaning out the garden shed and taping a couple of rips in the canopy cover.

Yup, the King himself.
But wait...........

A higher seat was to be had.
Actually, he thought he'd be able
to see Daddy from up there.
Bill was working in the shed,
where the blue arrow is pointing.

After lunch, he went back at it and I took a drive to town for a few errands. I had to make a list because I had so many stops and didn't want to forget anything! First, The Bookstore where I retrieved my unsold cards and bookmarks. Then, Foodland for a couple of loaves of our bread.

The clouds were hanging in there,
making it seem like rain was close.

Third, to the Beer Store where I cashed in $1.30 worth of beer cans from the bnb. Across the street to get a bottle of water filled at Battery Pro, and Impact Tire where I bought our C the A tickets for Friday night. Lastly, a stop at Rethreads, our thrift store, to drop off a toy and the foam mat I've held onto.

My next puzzle
I'm thinking my friends down south, kitty owners,
will enjoy doing this one too.

Oh, as I left the Ridge, I stopped next door to buy a dozen blue, brown and green eggs from our neighbour. That was the first thing I did. 🤭 Bill was in the Hangar when I returned and I decided to start a new puzzle. I'd chosen a cat picture with only 500 pieces this time again.

Jazz was sitting outside to
greet me as I returned.
Maybe we should have went for
a ride today!

Gibbs hung around outside in the shade, but we really didn't have a lot of sunshine today. It was warm enough by noon, reaching about the same as yesterday. Around 20C/70F. For supper, it was a real mess up. I'd bought salmon filets but didn't realize they needed to be oven baked. Duh!

My dahlias look great this year.

I think they are happy in their new
locations too.
In the blue circles.

Bill had fries going in the Fry Daddy, I had onion rings in Rosy, the air fryer so tried our convection oven - again. Of course, it seemed to be working but wasn't heating up to 350F so we ate our sides first while I popped the fish in Rosy for 10 minutes. It was okay, but no picture because it was actually 2 courses! haha

The brush pile is filling up again.
Not easy to get things out of here,
so we wait until it composts down
over the winter.
🤷‍♀️

We cleaned up the dishes, Bill went to the Hangar, Gibbs went up to bed and I worked on my blog. It has been a good day. I heard that Robin and Andrew are on their way home tonight so maybe some work will come my way with that. She's had some longer term guests in the bnb.

This one won't take long.
Still fun to do.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!
