What a Wonderful Day!

 The Ridge

On Thursday, May 21st I was up a few minutes past 7, on time to see Bill off to the job. It was going to be a lovely sun-filled day, even though it started off at a chilly 1.667C/35F. When we went to bed last night, we each pulled our single blankets up over the duvet and slept well.

Good morning!
Actually, this made my morning,
seeing our first visit from
this little guy.
I've been waiting.

At night, I have been rubbing Vick's Vaporub on the bottome of my feet and wearing sockettes. For the last 4 nights and by golly, I believe it is the answer to overnight coughing. I never woke once and that's good for Bill too. 😀

I've used some pretty natural remedies for my cold and can say that it is 98% gone. The best news of all is that I didn't share it with my sweetie. After he pulled out, I made my tea and sat at my laptop. I wanted to purchase the Catch the Ace tickets for Barrie so did that online. It would be nice to win!

What do you see?
Or should I say,
"who do you see?"
across the room watching me.

Yesterday, in town we bought our Durham tickets, which would also be nice. Gibbs and I went out to walk a couple of greeting cards to the mailbox and although it was indeed chilly, that sun made a world of difference. We stayed outside, puttering around.

I was very surprised when Gibbs started barking at a vehicle and then realized it was Bill home from work. He'd guessed that it would be another short day but I didn't expect him this early. I think it was just before 11. Surprise! He stayed in the Suite with Gibbs and snoozed until lunchtime.

The pond looks calm today.

I went out and re'painted' a sign that we hung at the gate this year. I used my waterproof markers instead of paint and we'll see how well they last. The sign is vertical and not facing any direct sun so it should be good for the summer at least. It looks readable now.

While down there, I pulled grass and dandelions out of the lily/geranium flowerbed along the fence at the end of the lane. I wish I could wave a magic wand but it was taken away from me in my youth, I guess. 🤣 Bit by bit, the bed gets cleaned up even though I'm never completely on top of the weeds.

It doesn't have to be monumental
to make me happy.
When I saw 2 nests in these hats
it made hanging them years ago
worth while.

I came in for lunch and Bill had already eaten his sandwich from his lunchpail. Cheater! I had toast with jam and peanut butter. Separate, I don't care for them mixed like many do. Back outside I went. Bill was working on repairing the solenoid starter for the dump trailer.

Unfortunately, straps in the box fell on it during one of the last trips and burned important stuff in there. Because it isn't our trailer, he felt terrible and has been trying to fix it ever since. He replaced the solenoid at Mike's suggestion as that seemed to be the issue.

At least it is readable now.

The one he bought wasn't the exact one but might have worked. Today he was determined so hooked up and drove to Flatbed Central near Varney on Hwy #6. He wishes he'd gone there first as the fellow there was very nice and helpful.

He did sell Bill the correct one, giving him a deal, but it works like a charm and we'll eat the cost. It always happens when you borrow something, right? We will tell Robin and Andrew what happened, no secret here! I prayed a lot all day for it to work out  and it paid off. 🙏

Some views, I never tire of.

Just when he tought he was done for the day, I had to inform him that our fresh water tank was reading empty/zero/zilch/0 so he drove to the Acreage at 4 to get a bladder full. Tomorrow he'll be gone all day and if I run out of water........well, I guess I'd survive, but he looks after us.

For supper, we had bbq'd sausages on a bun. I skipped the bun and had carb-less squash with mine. I cheat in other ways, believe me. LOL Before Bill left for water, we removed the tarp from Ptooties.

With the sun shining on his
back, he returned to have another
big drink.

He will be driving her, carefully, to Hanover Speedy Glass in the morning, where Billy will pick him up for work. What a rigmorole I created! I've been in the Bunky for much of the day, purging. I have so many crafting supplies, things I've picked up over the years 'in case' I felt like, well, creating. 🤭

One of our WGDLC members, two actually, are involved with the youth organization here in the area and I'm going to offer stuff to them IF they are interested. If not, it will get dropped at Rethreads in town. It's hard to part with some things, but my interests have changed.

Thirsty little fellow

Supper was good and when it was done and over with, I was happy to tell Bill, who hadn't stopped since he came home, that I made his lunch for him. It's small but he appreciated it. We sat and watched - you guessed it - more Bosch. Only one show finale left and that's tomorrow night so tv is a bust.

Supper was good.
We finished the strawberries and
whipped cream for dessert.

This was a really nice day, reaching 13.88C/57F, warmer than I expected because the wind was low. Overnight will still be about 3C/39F so I'm happy to wait until tomorrow to plant my vegetables. I hope you had a lovely day!

On May 21, 2017 I was
preparing to plant some
geraniums. I've changed things
up since then.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

A Great Day, Beginning to End

Can Am RV, London, On

On Friday, Oct. 18th we woke up after a fairly restful sleep in the Reflection. We were tired enough that the queen instead of king bed didn’t seem to hamper our slumber. 😊 It was frosty again outside, at least on parts of the grassy turf. We washed and drove to Tim Horton’s down the road for a coffee, tea and breakfast sandwich. I had a rewards card that easily covered the meal.

Good morning!

We returned home to eat it with Gibbs. At 8:45, we noticed someone in the shop window and Bill said he was putting tools away and our wheel was back on. That was a good sign so when we got the thumbs up that the Suite was done, it made our day! What a good start to our Friday.

He made a friend in the lounge.
Gary was going to get in trouble when he got
home to his Golden Retriever, Dallas.

I folded the bedding and we gathered our things together. I took Gibbs inside with my tea and Bill transferred our stuff to the Suite.

Even though he barked a lot at
people, people loved him.
One couple gave him a full bag of
Greenies. 💗

Timmy's came through for us
and filled us for an early brekky.

Since we are staying another night here, we had to wait until someone pulled out from one of the ‘elite’ (plug-in) spots out front. When one opened up, Bill moved us into place and we joined him in our home. It was around 10 so we relaxed until 11:45 when we left Gibbs in charge once more (poor little fellow) and drove to an old haunt, Southside Grill, for lunch with Brenda and Randy. I had a delicious meat lovers Skillet and Bill had a clubhouse. All great food, for a good price too!

We were all surprised when this
prototype robot brought our food to the table.
The waitress followed to set it out.
I think he was being 'fired' tomorrow.

Good friends
Good food
Great visit

We didn’t expect it but Randy paid for our meal which was very kind of him. From there, we drove back across the construction-infested city to visit with our dear, long-time friends, Jim and Sharon. I sure didn’t need it but Sharon had put out some nuts, chocolates and lemon squares for our dessert. Of course, my eyes said Yes! 😊 Yummy. We left there just before 4 and drove back across the city to Costco and to fuel up.

My Skillet lunch was sooo good!
Sharon's little treats topped it off. Yummy!

It was another large donation at Costco but we stocked up on things we can’t get in the southwest or at least not in the same allotments.

The traffic (rush hour AGAIN!) was terrible,
making us grateful for Durham's one traffic light.

It was 5:30 when we got back to our home and our little boy. He is so good, never has an accident when left alone. He was happy to see us though after almost 6 hours. Neither of us were hungry for supper so I had Madame IP cook hard boiled eggs and mixed half into egg salad.

After Costco, traffic was fine.

I made our sandwiches for tomorrow’s lunch and my supper was a banana cut up with cream. It helps to finish off my last 3 bananas too. I was feeling tired after a long couple of days so finished my blog and sat with Gibbs for the remainder of the evening. It has been fun seeing our friends and we’re grateful our home was fixed in due time. We reached a lovely 18C/64F today with mostly clear skies. Just perfect!

Tonight, we were in line for a pretty sunset.

Good night!

Thank you for checking in with us!

A Great Day

The Ridge

On Tuesday, Aug. 13th we woke up knowing that Bill didn’t have to go to work again today. Again, mixed blessings. I woke up around 6:30 (but didn’t get up until after 7) feeling very refreshed after a great night’s sleep. So, because I didn’t have anything pressing today either, we decided to clean up a bit around the property. Bill went out first and took the chainsaw down beside the Hangar where that dead tree‘lives’.

Good morning!
Last night, Gibbs had it in his mind to sleep on
the couch while I watched tv.
Every night he sits with me but tonight? Nope.
Can't help but wonder what gets in their head. 💗

Whether we do it ourselves, with help or someone else does it, there were a lot of small nuisance trees that would make it difficult. He cut a pathway into and around the 2 large trees there. One is dead and one is alive. The temperature this morning started out on the cool side, which is perfect for outdoor work. By the time Gibbs and I went out, around 9, it wasn’t cool anymore. 😊 Of course, we knew that would happen.

We have a brush pile that gets filled every summer.
Bill added to it this morning. By spring, it has composted
enough to leave room for the next summer.

I donned my work gloves and pulled weeds out of the berm garden, in my bucket on the hill and then along the outhouse. The irises have been long done and look yucky now so I snapped those leaves off at the ground. I did some more minor weeding along the fence line near the Bunky but stopped before starting into the big garden. It was hot and I know I have to pace myself or I’ll feel it tomorrow. So, although it was only just over an hour of work, I quite and joined Bill.

My job of clean up looks minor next
to his work! But it still looks better.

He doesn’t let himself stop so easily, he has the ‘just one more, just a bit more and then I’ll stop’ attitude. I can talk myself out of that quicker but he can’t. So, Gibbs and I came up and I changed into shorts and took my book out to the picnic table. Bill finally stopped and cleaned up the cut branches but he was completely tuckered. Yes, I gave him heck! We rested outside before coming in for lunch.

Here is our back field after a cut.
Across the fence to our neighbours side,
we are quite disgusted with their field.
It has been 'half' cut once since they moved in
last summer. Our previous neighbours, however strange,
kept it neat like ours. Sad.

Just sandwiches today but mine was toasted pb with cucumbers and tomato. It was very good on sour dough bread. That loaf of bread has been in the freezer, where I ‘feed’ from it, for a long time and still tastes great toasted. 😊 I’ll have to pick up another since there is only 1 slice and a crust left. Bill had a snooze with Gibbs after we ate’’

We are very grateful for the fence line
and we try not to look at it. We aren't
the only ones feeling this way, it extends to the road as well.
Their fire # (address) is hidden and the mailbox soon will be. 😕
As far as we can tell, they are fine.

When he got up 30 minutes later, we hopped on Jazz for a quick run into town. I wanted to pick up some epoxy and J cloths (for Williamsford) from the hardware.  I do need more bird seed but will get that later this week. I filled the feeders with what I had left and that included the hummingbird feeder. It was empty and by the time I returned inside the Suite, she was already drinking from it. I’m sure she was in the trees just waiting!

Bill made a path into the bush for access to the
dead tree that needs to come down.
He worked hard at it today!

Bill went to the Hangar and I sat at my laptop. I have a project on the go that I need to get working on so put my mind to it and made some progress. When it was tea time, I settled back to start today’s post. Bill came up around 4 and found something to watch on tv. It has been a really nice day together, yet doing our own thing. 😊

My lunch was tasty!

We had Bill’s Burgers for supper, loaded, of course. Delicious as usual. Again, I was too full for dessert but Bill had a piece of cheesecake with strawberry sauce. I’ll be sure to save room tomorrow night for one of those last pieces! There weren’t enough dishes to use the dishwasher so Bill washed them by hand. The evening went along quietly.

My book is so good now, it is hard to put it down, but I have bookmarked a few movies to watch on Prime. Last night, it was James Patterson’s ‘Cross’. It was good! A series starts on Nov. 14th so I hope we can still get it down south. 😊 We reached a warm high of 25C/77F, dropping to 11C/51F tonight. Rain isn't expected until Friday and then it won't stop for a few days. LOL I hope your Tuesday was a fine one too.

Bill's burger was right up to par!
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

What a Great Day!

The Ridge

On Saturday, June 1st Bill was in the shower when I woke up at 6:45. I trust that means that he slept in. No alarm. 😊 I got up, made the bed and started sorting the dirty laundry into two loads. Bill was getting ready to go flying, it was a beautiful morning. I left before him at 7:15 and noticed that Ptooties was reading 12C/56F. Under sunny skies, I didn’t even need a jacket.

Last night's sky after sunset surprised me.
Good morning!

The Mat was empty until I was done cleaning and was loading our damp clothes into the basket. Ron, Sandy’s employee, came in to pick up the recycle and garbage. We chatted for a while as I finished up and pretty much locked up and walked out at the same time. I had retrieved my pay from the office when I arrived so stopped at the bank to deposit it into my account and then headed home. I knew Bill would be long gone and hoped it would be a nice flying morning for him.

Let's jump right in to the fun part of the day
The Spring Clothing Exchange begins!
The living room

The clothes shouldn’t take long to dry on the line, even though there were some light clouds hovering over the area. The slight breeze and warmth would take care of that. 😊 Gibbs and I just hung around together. I ate the last pancake for lunch with lots of butter and then had my shower. At 1, I put a few more things in the back of the SUV and drove to Donna’s clothing exchange, in Hanover. I figured I would meet Bill on his way home and just as I approached Durham, I did.

the Sitting Room off the kitchen
(In our old houses, Mom would call this the Front Room)

Donna had 12 attendees, including herself, and clothes, nicely folded and sorted, in each of her 4 rooms on the main level. I was pleasantly surprised and added my extra bags of items to the piles. There is no rhyme, limit or order to this exchange; you put your items out and begin going through things. Over and over. As a new person arrives, you go back and look again after they’ve added their things. 😊 It is a social event, with lots of encouragement of ‘yays’ or ‘nays’ on items we try on.

The Spare Bedroom

Most of us left with less (or more?) than what we donated. All the remaining items, will be bagged and dropped off at a thrift store or preferably at a shelter for women. Not one dime is spent and if you find out at home that you don’t like one of the pieces after all, no money was lost. It was around 4 when I said my goodbyes and drove to Walmart before leaving Hanover. I donated some money there, easily, but I did find everything on our list.

The Dining room table has fall weather clothing.
In the forefront on the counter, Donna has
a nice display of snacks for our pleasure.
They were all very good.

Then I went to Walmart where one
of the most important items was for Gibbs.

When I pulled in through the gate,
this Mrs. Yertle was hurrying across but stopped as I neared.
I parked and picked her up to put her on the destination side.

Bill had just recently arrived home from getting water and helping Gerry at the Acreage. What a pleasant surprise to see him removing and folding the clothes off the line for me. We had burgers for supper, and after stepping on the scales earlier, I was encouraged enough to carry on with my ‘lettuce bun’. No complaints here, it was still messy and delicious! Bill loaded the dishwasher and went to the Hangar. I worked on my blog and will find something on tv later.

Bill bbq'ing and Gibbs watching for Chippy.

Same tasty burger!

This was a great Saturday and tomorrow is a free day, totally free, to do what I (we) want. We reached a high temperature of 25C/76F but surprise, surprise, cooler again tomorrow. The only disappointment today was that my Buddy, Pat, wasn’t able to attend our clothing exchange. She hasn’t missed one since we started, so Michele and I found a couple of things she just might like. I hope yours was a nice day too.

Gibbs is either protecting my bag of clothes OR
thinking 'what is in the bag, Mom?'
Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.

What a Great Day! Feels Like Friday

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 23rd I woke to Gibbs barking in bed beside me. I was surprised that it was 7:05 but because I didn’t have to go anywhere, it was fine to be a bit lazy this morning. Bill was downstairs but was stepping outside to fill Gibbs’ food container – hence the barking. “Where is Dad going?” I got up and came downstairs to join them. 😊

Last night's sunset

Bill is so sweet, getting ready for his own day, he makes my tea for me as soon as I come down. He’s a keeper! I sat while he finished his rituals and then he brought water in to fill our fridge jug too. When he left at 7:30, I finished my tea with a banana and cream. Time for my shower. Robin asked me to call before I left for the bnb so I got a few new instructions about picking up a oscillating fan from their home to take up to Williamsford. No a/c so with this heat, it could be hot.

Gibbs' is attached.
With one small hole, Moo Cow is not
too impressed.

The guests were out when I arrived at 11:30, as they should be, so I looked after the laundry first. He had stripped the bed and had the used towels in a basket by the washer. There were NO dishes in the sink, and all garbage was removed, which was the first time, so I thought that was very respectable of them. Robin likes to know how they leave it for her records. They got an A+ in my books.

Driving to Williamsford
under lovely skies

It still took me a couple of hours from beginning to end, what with washing and drying sheets and emptying the recycle and outside garbage bins. I restocked her baskets with snacks for the guests and the fridge with a few bottles of water. Everyone seems to like her service and love the quaint home. I’m proud to be a part of all that and Robin is very grateful that we met when we did and have become friends. 😊

After cutting grass, we admired the lawn
until the flies got too interested in me.

I stopped at her house to drop the numerous pieces of ‘good’ mail inside before I returned home to Gibbs. It was around 2:15 so I was smart to have taken cheese, almonds, a butter tart and water along with my coffee for lunch. Bill had mentioned cutting grass so since my area was the longest, I took care of that right away. It was after 3 when I finished up, hot and ‘bothered’. Ha ha. There was a lovely breeze up here today but without it, the blackflies sure liked my sweaty hair!

A strawberry Daquiri

Yes, they’re still around. Gerry popped over briefly to borrow a gas can so they could get their Acreage grass cut. Woops, they forgot a can when they drove out this afternoon. 😊 Bill has lots. I came inside when the flies were too much for me and made myself a strawberry daquiri. Hmmm, that will make me feel better.

And the peonies are bursting!

Because our little boy is getting a hair cut tomorrow morning and he has a few sticky things from the tree out here, I put him in the sink and scrubbed them off. He likes the bath and makes quite a performance of drying himself off in our chairs. I thought this would make Kate’s job a bit easier.

I think Moo Cow might be thinner now.

Bill was home a bit early, a nice surprise, so we caught up on each other’s day. Since Gibbs was being ignored, he took the opportunity to deflate his Moo Cow as much as he could in 5 minutes. He’s a goof but I expect no less, it’s what he does. Bill talked about moving some dirt tonight, after we decided to wait on cutting the big fields, but after a work day, he changed clothes and his mind and had a nap instead. Good! 😊

Halibut and squash
Good supper

For supper, we had fish and chips, the chips for Bill and squash for me. One day I hope to reap the benefits of this food train I’m on. It’s taking longer this time than in 2010 when I first began keto. I’m a patient person, when I want to be, so will keep at it – for now. We watched the finale of The Voice last night and although it wasn’t our choice, now it is over. I’ve also been watching a series called Tracker and quite enjoying it.

Sitting at the Acreage
and the sun began its descent through the trees

After supper, we all hopped in Ptooties and took a quick run over to the Acreage to see Donna and Gerry. We were home by 8:30 and the new bites I got yesterday and today were starting to bug me. They don’t have black flies but the mosquitoes were making an appearance and they like me too! Argh!! It was nice to see them and catch up. Bill had made his lunch before supper so hopped in the shower. There is a lovely sunset tonight with just a few low-lying clouds making it pop.

The boys having a beer

Another great day with some cash in my pocket -kind of. 😊

Back at home, the sun sets.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping around. Your comments are always welcome.
