FINALLY!!

The Ridge

When we all woke up on Thursday, July 17th, it was like we were stepping off a plane in the Carribean. It was that muggy, that warm - again. The good news is that the forecasts were calling for rain and yes, we did get some overnight but change the temperature it did not.

My first (& only?) Moonflower

Bill left at 6:30 and I left a few minutes before 7 to clean the Mat. I had our grocery list with me with the plan to carry on to Walmart in Hanover for a food stock up. The Mat was empty upon arrival but 2 ladies came in as I was working away. 

The sky let loose around 8:00 and hung
around for most of the day.
I didn't mind at all, it cooled things down
and watered my plants.

I'm going to call the one 'Miss I Won't Move my Feet' (for obvious reasons) and the other is a regular 'Miss Negatory' (you understand). I don't like braggers, negative or inconsiderate people so was happy when I left. I refuse to let them drag me down. "Have a great day, ladies!" I chirped.

I made a stop at Robin's on the way in to town to set another sale item on her side porch for pick up. Funny, I thought it was an old fashioned doctor's bag when I saw it earlier but it is a pet carrier. 😉 A nice one. She and Andrew will fly home on Saturday.

Perfect timing!

On the way to Hanover at 8:00, it rained buckets. At one point, my wipers were on full speed for about 10 minutes and then dwindled off to nothing. I almost emptied our grocery account, from the list I had that was not surprising, but I got a lot of food, meat included.

Back in Durham, I stopped at Impact Tire to pick up our town Catch the Ace tickets and Jackie and I had our usual chit-chat. Such a nice lady and we're both hoping for the big Barrie C t A ticket!! It's up to $540,000 jackpot, $29,000 weekly draw. One can dream. 

The worse part of getting groceries, I honestly don't mind shopping, checking out in self-serve, loading the car but I really am not fond of finding room for everything! Especially freezer items. I'm grateful for our Bunky fridge/freezer, small but 'mighty'. 😂

Bill's battery charger for his planes arrived before lunch and by then the rain had stopped - temporarily. The vegetables and flowers are happy again and that makes me happy.

After lunch, I worked on my winter book. Still organizing pictures, you know how many I take. This book will be more photos than writing, since we don't move much once we reach our Arizona  destination. 

I think covering them for a couple of those

Bill was having a late day, trying to finish drywall on a ceiling, yeuch, so didn't get home until 5:45. At least the heavy stuff is done now. We had his request of mac & cheese with wieners for supper....even that I can't cook properly!! It was like mac & cheese mush but still tasted good. I tend to cook the noodles too long. LOL

At 2, I thought it had stopped raining
so we walked 'to get the mail'. 
He sure knows those words!

After clean up, I worked on my winter book and we chatted with Marilynne.

and 2 of the jumbo weiners. We laughed at that.

This has been a strange day. So hot and humid to start and by 4:30, I was closing windows on a cool, windy 22C/73F and by 7:30, 11C/52F. But, at least we could all breathe fresh air for a change and the plants were well watered. 😁

I'm afraid it is true.
Bill forgives me.

Blessed Calm Day, More Puzzling, Reunion! Two SunsetsL

On Tuesday, Jan. 9^th it was a lounge in bed day. When I opened the blind upstairs at 7:15, the sky was lightening up already and it was clear as a bell. 😊 The best thing of all though was that there were little to NO wind. The cold spell was upon us with the temperature sitting at 33F/.55C. Brrrr! That has been the coldest night yet and I believe there may be another one before the week is through.

Last night, I love these moments.

This morning - some frost
but beautiful sunshine

Black Beauty had a bit of frost on her windshield but it was by no means heavy, it came off with the first sweep of the wipers. After Bill disconnected us from power, we are at least benefitting from the sun’s rays, he left for the field. I finished my morning tea and Gibbs and I bundled, he in his sweater, me in my warm coat, and went for our walk. It had warmed up considerably (well, about 8 degrees) by 9 when we left.

I dropped him off at home and continued on with my own walk. It felt great! I was getting a good dose of steps in today, compared to my norm. 😊 I took the time to snap a couple of selfies before returning home. I made a coffee and went over to work on the puzzle until noon hour. Bill and I had minced ham sandwiches for lunch and then drove down Main St. to Ken’s Grocery Tent. They carry a few things we like at very good prices so we picked those up.

The $1 Tent behind him, has the best deal in town for certain items too so just check the expiry dates but check them out. We needed some small coiled booklets for notes and ‘stuff’ so for a real steal, I bought 6. We shouldn’t run out again for a while. We also stopped at the sign ‘kiosk’ at the corner of I95 and Main but they were gone for lunch so we’ll go back.

Back home, the boys dozed and I went back to the puzzle for an hour. 3 of our friends, who were camped the other side of Yuma, in California, had arrived at Roadrunner BLM this morning. Time for a group Happy Hour!

We left home around 3 and found them easily enough. Hugs all around with Kim, Ken and Keith. Oh, and pets for Oreo too. It was a nice couple of hours rehashing old and new things, but mostly just being together. As Kim said, it seems like a long time!

Keith showed Bill and I his quaint little, perfect for him, home for a couple of months. He has made it really nice but especially with that rug! 😊 We got a selfie, watched the sun drop behind the mountains (La Paz ?) and headed home around 5:30. Supper was not going to be chicken legs as planned, it was too late to start a meal like that.

We were hungry now. That meant warming up the last of the meatloaf after all (I was going to skip a night), eating the last of the coleslaw and cooking a veggie. All was fine, it was worth it to have a reunion with friends. The sunset tonight was one of those ‘knock me down, blow me away’ ones again but I tried not to go overboard. Hahahaha. After loading the dishwasher, Bill went to watch a movie while I wrote this.

It has been a great day even though we only made it to 56F/12C. If you got ‘weather’ where you are, I hope you are warm, safe and healthy.

My laptop was very slow last night so by 8 pm, I shut it down and watched another good movie. 7 Days in Utopia with Robert Duvall and Lucas Black. Watch it! 😃

Here Comes the Rain!

The Ridge

When I woke up on Tuesday, June 23^rd Bill was already downstairs after his shower. It was 6:45 when I got up to greet the day. Cleaning day for me so I got washed, dressed and followed Bill out the lane to Durham at 7:05. It felt humid outside but the temperature was a moderate 20C/68F. No sun this morning to speak of and we were expecting a bit of rain so that made sense.

 The Mat wasn’t too bad at all and was looking even better when I left! The floors needed a good washing. I drove home and puttered around inside after my tea. I had to refill a couple of soap dispensers for kitchen and bathroom sinks for starters. I was reading blogs when at 10, thinking that I should get outside and do something productive, the sky opened up and the rains let loose.

Last night it came on with a burst at 8, right out of the blue, wind and heavy rain for about 15 minutes. We welcomed it though. There was a faint rainbow, unreachable pots of gold on each end, through the rain and sunshine. Very pretty. So, Bill texted around 10:30 that he was on his way home. They can’t put siding or do anything on that house in the rain. He can spend time in his Hangar this afternoon and will enjoy doing that, I’m sure.

On Sunday, with the ice cream cake debacle, we had to cut the cake in half (what was left after the 4 of us had some) and put them into glass cake pans. With no room in our freezer, I removed the 2 bags of frozen apples from the Bunky freezer and slipped one cake pan in there. You know how small these portables are, not much room at all. The second cake pan had to sit just in the fridge part. We knew it would melt but at least it would stay cold.

Okay, this morning I brought that cake pan inside the Suite and poured it into the blender. The ingredients were that for a strawberry shortcake ice cream cake so I knew it would be yummy for a milkshake. I was bang on! So yummy! Bill will enjoy it that way as well. When Bill drove in, I was just finishing my coffee. We caught up with some chit chat and then he went upstairs to watch some tv and inevitably have his snooze.

The rain left everything green and dampened

When he got up, he went down to the Hangar to work on his plane. I turned on my recordings of Downton Abbey and watched 3 hours of those. I really do love them. The rains returned off and on all afternoon until about 5 and somewhere in there, unbeknownst to me, the power went out. I had the inverter turned on as our fridge needs power without the sun and I wasn’t sure how long it would be off. Bill said it was off for over 3 hours before he came up. His tv would not be on and no lights either, so once it got darker with the clouds, he came up.

It was a nice hearty supper

Supper was leftover meatloaf so I was glad when the power came back on. It meant I could use Madame IP to reheat it and the leftover dressing from the other night. We had cabbage salad on the side and supper was quite tasty. After dishes, it looked like more rain again but I won’t complain. Bill had some strawberry milkshake for his dessert. I had a couple of Girl Guide cookies.

Everything has been well-watered meaning I don’t have to. The rain barrel was only about ¼ full yesterday from all my watering and now it is overflowing. Yay! We have it sitting right under the down spout of our only eaves trough on the Bunky. Too bad we didn’t have more on the sheds, the water comes in handy. This was a quiet afternoon and I enjoyed it quite a lot. I hope you got some rain too, if you needed it.
