Might be Sore Tomorrow?

The Ridge

On Sunday, Aug. 31st we all were able to sleep in for a bit. I could feel Gibbs stirring between us at 6 but he kept laying back down in a different position until Bill rolled over onto his back. Aha! Time to give Daddy hugs!

Good morning!
Bill hard at it at 10 am.

I stayed in bed when they got up until 7:30, seemed to need a bit more rest. 😄 We had breakfast together and at 10, Bill took Black Beauty over to Robin's to pick up their large dump trailer. He'd asked to borrow it for a couple of weeks.

I was busy in my own way,
just returning from the bnb.
Already, trees are starting to change
colour in areas.
Too soon!

At 10:30, I left for Williamsford, arriving just around 11. The guests had departed on time which is always nice, and they left the house in great condition. I think there were 4 of them and they didn't seem to have used much other than the beds and some towels.

By the time I returned home,
Bill had the trailer full.

I was on my way home in an hour and stopped at a roadside booth selling corn on the cob. One of those 'honest' stands, so I chose 12 cobs and left my $6. Donna agreed to split it with us. We'll not eat 12 in a week. Since it was on my way home, one of the routes, I dropped her 6 off at the Acreage.

In my first picture, you
can see the pile of wood planks
and cedar rails to move.
This is when we were finishing up
for the day.
We hope to level it up for more
gravel.

Bill was busy loading old boards from behind the Hangar into the trailer when I left and by the time I returned home, it was full. He's no slacker! We have a lot of old cedar rails in that pile that have been there since early on, so together we cut them up.

I like this picture.
Bill's big trailer on the left.
My little trailer on the right.
But hey, I'm learning to ride
the mower. Finally!

I need to get comfortable riding the Cub Cadet so he attached the wagon and I was the one driving it up to our wood pile by the firepit and back down again. I hope I can remember the steps! I'm happy to have done that today but I need practice backing up with a wagon on it!

The 'almost' before and after of our wood pile.
The brighter pieces are new.

Our wood pile improved greatly and we added some to his down by the Hangar for his own fire pit. There are still some rails to cut, and a mess of stones, dirt and what have you to clean up but this was a big job that we made a huge dent in.

Bill's little wood pile too

We quit around 3:30 and 'playtime' ensued. He was in the Hangar with his planes and I moved my quilling supplies from the Suite back into the Bunky. Seems the days are warmer now............although, I see what is coming and things may be reversed again before the week is out!

I think I improved it
and now it is on a background
too fYikor hanging.

I finished a farm picture that I'd started a week ago. Remember the pig, sheep and ducks? I wasn't happy with the total result so took Trudy's suggestion of a picket fence and barn and expanded on the whole picture. I love the way it turned out!

Yikes!
We don't like spicy.
My bad!!

For supper, we went simple. Again. Hot dogs and corn on the cob. Filling. The big surprise was when I opened a new jar of relish and licked the fork. Oh-oh!! Jalapenos??? Crap. We won't be eating that! So, instead, I used some of Robin's Nfld cauliflower relish. That's much better!

This is the end of the
big weiners. I'm not keen on them.
But the corn? Oh my it was good!

Bill went to the Hangar and I finished my blog. It was a lovely day here on the Ridge. We worked hard for a lot of it but enjoyed some down time too. We reached a high of 23C/73F but still expecting some cool evenings. I hope you are enjoying your long weekend.

No Gibbs pictures today. Sorry.
He was outside with us all day,
finding shade, being our shadow
and our supervisor at the same time.
Couldn't have done the job without him.
The sun is setting further south now.
It seemed to have jumped just in the last 2 days.
Good night!

Thank you for your visit!

Cleaning Up and the Durham Fall Fair

 The Ridge (picture overload)

On Saturday, Aug. 30th we were up with the birds, although I haven't seen a lot of birds lately. Probably because the feeders were empty for a few days. 😒 We'd sorted the clothes last night into 2 loads and this morning, I washed, made my tea and headed out around 7.

Good morning!

Bill wasn't far behind with his cargo trailer to go flying with the boys. It was a cool start to the day, 6C/42F, with clouds battling the sun for sky real estate. I had no idea which would win out so went prepared to dry the clothes at the Mat, just in case.

As I pulled out of our lane,
couldn't resist another picture.

I finished with the garbage, recycling and lint trays before a couple came in. Regulars from Priceville. When they left, Ron came in to add salt to the hot water heater and take the bags to the dump. He is quite the chatterer but I listen and once in a while, I get a word in edgewise. He fills in for me in my absence.

The grass was very wet at 9 am
so Gibbs stayed on the steps until
I was finished hanging clothes.

I popped in to Foodland to see if they had any new fresh flowers but they didn't, so I returned home. Town was going to get very busy around 10:30 as the parade starts at 11. I wouldn't see it. It was 11 when I made my coffee and, leaving Gibbs in charge, drove to Williamsford, avoiding Durham.

His thunder coat was in the wash so
I had to appease him with his flannel
jacket.
Someone looks very sleepy.
Adorable, huh?

The house was in good condition, only 2 beds to strip and remake and a load of things for the washer. Last night's 4 guests had washed the dishes but left them in the tray to dry, so I put those away and concentrated on the floors and  bathroom. It only took an hour today so I informed Robin.

The arena was full of displays
so I walked around and perused.

On the way home, I popped into a yard sale out of town and then touched base with Bill. He was in town getting propane on his way home so I carried on to get fuel. It was 1:15 so the parade was done. I have not been to a fall fair in a number of years so after filling Ptooties, drove to the arena.

It was when I saw the display
in the top photo that my mind
began planning.
This is the only 'paper' stuff.

The arena was full of 'things!' Tables of this, that and the other but mostly competition items were displayed. I walked around and when I came to Hobbies and Crafts and saw nothing at all close to what I make, I became excited.

Quilts, but not as pretty as those
made by someone I know!
Most are pretty bland to me.

It's not for the $$, because the winnings for 1st, 2nd & 3rd are pittance. It's because I can! So, next year that is my plan. (I think) For a $7 registration fee, I can enter any number of creations.  Even my friend, Trudy, should consider entering her many crochet items. They are awesome.

How do they ever judge these things?

Huge Hydrangeas!
Oh! My Echinacea are just as nice!
Hmmmm, again, how do they choose?

I walked around, bumped into a lot of Lion members and sat with Deiter and Kat to watch the bridal show. Dresses from 1899 to 2024. That was interesting to see.

The vintage ones on mannequins
are lovely. Such teeny waists!
On the left: the secretary at Northline Repair down the road
Top right: the oldest model in her wedding dress.
Can't remember the years, there were so many!

It took them a long time to get in place,
and still someone moved!

When it finished an hour later, I walked outside to find the animals. Horses, judging, calves and bulls satisfied the farm girl in me.

Such beautiful horses.
Notice the braided mane?

Look at these cuties.

When I returned home, Donna and Gerry had just popped in for a visit. We chatted for an hour over a beer (the guys) and a cup of tea (the gals) before they headed back to the Acreage. It was nice to see them, seems like it has been a while since we've sat and visited.

It had warmed up outside, the winds were dying off by 4 and Gibbs and I came inside. Bill has plans for tomorrow, not involving flying so was putting things away down at the Hangar. I started tacos for supper around 5:45 and they were a hit. We had a Chapman's drumstick for dessert.

So good!

This has been a great day, even though work was involved. The clothes dried quickly on the line under mostly sunny skies (telling you who won that battle!) and we settled in for a quiet evening. It will hit me soon, just how tired I am. 😀

The other day, I posted memory
pictures. Here is another special one.
This is Aug. 30th, 2019.
Visitors from London,
we have since lost Kathy (2021)
but notice the greenery behind them,
we can see Dot's home easily.

I can feel the results of yesterday's raking in my arms and shoulders so will do some stretches before bed. I'll be cleaning the bnb for Robin tomorrow too, so 'raking in the dough' is a much less painful chore. A high of 18C/66F today with another cool night. Warmer tomorrow though!

And a fun memory on
Aug. 30th, 2021.
What a dirty pool!
Good night!

Thank you for your visit!

Relaxing Day ?

The Ridge

On Friday, Aug. 29th, as we slide down (& I mean down in temps) to the end of the month, I am truly jealous of my own blog header picture. Shorts, tanks and sandals. Not to mention the total relaxation I see in our faces. 💗

Good morning!

Today was a good opportunity to experience some of that relaxation BUT we didn't. Bill heard last night that they would not be working today. He likes that and I like the feeling of us both being 'free' souls today, together. It sure wasn't warm though, a chilly 7C/46F when I got up at 8.

Bill cut the back field and
ventured into an area that is often
too wet to cut.
Sometimes into areas that are even
questionable. I can't control him!

Yes, I slept in. I was so tired last night when I went to bed at 10:30 that I dropped right off. However, I woke up from a really deep sleep when Bill came to bed at 11:45. There I was, tossing and turning, not able to drop bHack off for an hour or so. LOL

However, when I see these areas
cut, I think what a nice spot for
overnight tenters.......if only our
grandchildren did that kind of thing.

We had our morning brew and Bill went out to start cutting grass. He had the back field and the berm done before lunch and he ran out of gas for the mower. In the meantime, Gibbs and I went out to clean up more irises around the Bunky and outhouse.

I was thrilled because I was able
to sneak up on the turtles on the log!
That rarely happens before they
hear me and slip off.

It was an okay temperature to work outdoors and I started with a hoody and wind breaker. The latter soon came off but it was sure needed early on. The bird feeders were empty so I filled those before crawling around tidying up some of the gardens.

After lunch, Bill went to the front field

We had lunch together and went back at it. This time he went to the front field and I went to rake up all the apples that are littering the berm. These apples are not big enough to even get any use out of them so there may be a tree coming down yet. All they do is make a mess and make it a challenge cutting the grass.

I raked and tossed the apples
over the fence.

I did what I could up at the berm garden but I know there are lots of apples hidden in the hostas and primroses. They just get gathered up and tossed over the fence into the ditch between our fence and the farmer's corn field.

I don't know if you can see in this
picture......there are tons still on the trees.

Gibbs and I went to check mail, finding none, and walked around the field while Bill finished up.

And many apples hidden under
the hostas. I'll get them when the
blooming period is over.

I put the hammock bed away and Bill tucked the metal frame up in the garden shed rafters. I know we will have some nice weather but September is busy enough. Gibbs and I came inside and Bill went to the Hangar until around 4. Time for a snooze!

the Sedum colour is coming.
It seems to be blushing at this stage.

Tonight was Catch the Ace night so we planned supper for our return around 7. No luck with the draw tonight but it was a good time anyway. The supper plan went haywire when we stopped at Foodland for bread and then at Robin's for a chat. It was 7:45 when we got home.

You'll never guess what this is.
Once Gibbs' yak cheese bones (from Quartzsite)
get to be about 1" square, they say to
soak them in water for 5 minutes and
microwave them for 1 minute.
They puff up like this. He can't choke on
them this way and they are a puffy
crunchy treat once they cool.
He loves them.

I didn't want to cook tacos so late so we had soup instead with some ice cream. It has been a good day, not relaxing but a few things cleaned up. The fields look great again and there is improvement in the gardens too.

We stopped at Robins for a quick chat
but she was on her way back from town.
This is her back yard, the sun dropping
in the trees.

We only reached a high of 15C/60F with a few periods of sunshine through the heavy clouds.

Our prayers go out to the families of those harmed or lost in the Minnesota shooting. 🙏🙏There's a song by Billy Currington called People are Crazy......'nuff said.

A pretty sky.
Good night!

Thank you for popping by and happy long weekend!

A Cooler Day and a Friend at the Mat

The Ridge

For Thursday, Aug. 28th my plans had changed from what they were yesterday morning. Robin asked me to change cleaning today with Saturday, if possible. Of course! That meant I was still up at 6:30 to go clean the Mat and I left before Bill for a change.

Good morning!
It started out dull, rainy and cool.

No one was there and yet within 10 minutes, in walked my friend, Trudy. I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks, at least, so we had a lot to chat about while I worked. Catching up on our crafting, her sales at markets and her 8 month old boxer.

Trudy is a very petite lady so picturing her with her boxer, is mind-blowing. I gifted her with a bookmark of her choice (I've had them with me every time just in case she was there), and she was thrilled, choosing the one with the dog and kitty. 💓

Once it started brightening up,
Gibbs was out rolling on the mat.

Because of our chatting, I was later leaving (only recording an hour for the job). Oh! Trudy gifted me (Gibbs) with a bag of her homemade treats to try.

When I got home, Gibbs tasted
one.

I think he likes it! 💗

When we walked out together it was around 8:45. I came straight home and it didn't seem long before I was driving around the corner to pick M up.

It's the tail wagging as he eats

                                     it that makes me laugh.

I offered to make it a 'free to him' trip but he'll have no part of taking advantage. Nice of him, but I was trying to be kind. It was 11 when we got home and because it poured a lot of the time, he was wet, I was wet and cold. I flipped the furnace back on to warm up the Suite.

A walk to get the mail
showed clearing in the sky

I read some of my next book by J.E. This one is a Plum story called Plum Spooky and not disappointing by any means. I'm only into the 4th chapter. Bill surprised us by driving up the lane just before 12 noon so we had lunch together.

My pictures are ahead of my words
because I didn't have many until later
in the evening.
This, obviously, was supper.
It was good!

It was a possibility that I would do some quilling but instead did some research on a product that Trudy told me about. The vendor is Grounding Well and I believe it to be something worthwhile for a number of reasons. That's how the next hour or so went until Gibbs and I walked for the mail.

Taking part in a Lion's decorating group

The thermometer reached a whopping high of 16C/62F by mid afternoon but the rain had pretty much stopped by 1 pm. I started my blog and since Bill was upstairs watching tv, I delved into my book again with a creamy cup of hot tea.

For supper, we had meatballs in Rosy, the a.f., Bill had fries and I finished my keto rice. We ate a bit early and at 6:45 drove into town to Lion Ed's place to help decorate a float for the Durham fall parade this weekend. There were 11 of us that showed up and Sheena and I stuffed the scarecrow with straw.

Now, isn't he a handsome dude?
Lazy, yes, but handsome!
Teri sewed him together.
She took him home to attach him to
a pole to stand up in the float.
Good luck!

Unfortunately, I'm cleaning and doing laundry before the parade and sometime in the middle of the parade, I'll be cleaning the bnb. I would have been happy to walk with the float to hand out candy. Oh well, maybe next year.

It came together pretty well
with a few chuckles and lots
of wise cracks!

Not bad for 45 minutes work!

The 'almost' finished float.
Mr. Scarecrow will be added
on Saturday morning.

We were home by 8:15 and were quite happy that we went. It was fun to work with the members that also participated. Bill and I have a day off tomorrow, no work for either of us. That will be nice, maybe the grass will get cut. It was a good day.

A pretty sunset on our drive home.
Bill said it looks like the embers in
our firepit. 😄
Good night!

Thank you for your visit.
