The Ridge
On Thursday, Aug. 21st I was able to sleep in until 7, with no place to be too early. Bill got word last night that there was no work for him today, so he was downstairs relaxing when I came down.

Good morning!
We had our morning brew and breakfast together. Kind of. He had toast and I had yogourt. Bill went out and dumped the black tank and cut grass down the laneway. It isn't long enough yet to do anymore than that yet. After the last couple of days of rain, it will grow for sure.

And the Moonflowers are still blooming
I drove to M's at 10 and took him into town. He's not in any better shape than he was last time I saw him. You just can't help some people, so I do what I can and that is running him into town when he needs to pick up food and 'stuff'.

Gibbs and I did a bit of tent sitting but the little sweat bees were annoying
Back home, Bill was down at the Hangar with his plane out on the table. I hope he got a picture, because I didn't. This is his latest build, and it is still in the process. It is big and looks great, even without any covering. This is the Aeronca Sedan. 😊

This Monarch was trying to get out of the tent, and eventually did on her own.
So, while he was busy, I moved on to my next tasks for the day. We are required to provide an evening meal for Saturday, so I took a hint from Nancy and began making chili. It has to be something easy to transport for the 4 hour drive and then 30 minutes on a boat across to the island. Fits the bill for me!
First things first, I started making my 'always successful, tasty' dinner rolls. While they were rising, Madame IP prepared the chili. In between the steps of these food items, I checked off my list and mentally gathered things together for packing.

It was a nice day but still hot enough for Gibbs to seek shade.
We are invited to Duncan and Patty's for a couple of nights. I'm sure it will be fun but we've never seen pictures, ??, so other than knowing we'll have a sleep bunky to ourselves, a shared toilet bunky and a shared kitchen bunky, it is all in our imagination. 😉
Trust me, that leaves the mind wandering and wondering. 🤔 Anyway, we're preparing everything that we think we'll need and will just pray for nice weather for the duration of the weekend. It will be good to see them, since they haven't made it here for any length of time this summer.

Gibbs and I walked down for the mail.
After lunch, Bill took a run into Durham on Jazz and after a couple of hours relaxing, I took our basket of laundry in to the Mat. Since we wouldn't be here on the weekend, clothes needed to be washed and I would clean today instead of in the morning. Sandy is covering Sunday for me.
After the laundry was washed and folded, I made a stop at Foodland for some bottled water for Gibbs. Not taking any chances with unknown water. Chili is always good with sour cream and shredded cheese so I picked some up too.
It is a beautiful day, reaching a perfect 25C/77F. I think we'll have more of the good weather for the weekend. While I was thinking of it, I messaged Dot to let her know we would be away until Sunday. We chatted a bit and I know she'll keep an eye on our place for us.
I can't remember if I mentioned that I've moved on to Janet Evanovich's Going Rogue:Rise & Shine 29. Another of the Stephanie Plum mysteries. Of course, I'm caught up in it and it will be going with us tomorrow. Bill has his J.A. Jance book picked out too, just in case we need to put in time.

It's another good one!
We're not sure what the wifi situation will be so if you don't hear from me until Sunday, don't fret. We'll just be 'off-grid' in more ways than one! 😂 Supper was grilled cheese sandwiches and I finished the sour dough bread from the freezer.

Success with these rolls at least!
We watched a movie together and relaxed for the evening. My mind wasn't relaxed though, running through the list. This was a great day.

Good night!
Thank you for stopping by. and for putting up with my numerous quilling pictures. Your kind words are appreciated!

Chili is always good ...... in a tightly sealed container!! Water, boat and island is my kind of weekend - hope you can get lots of pictures!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour rolls look great ... and chili is always good for the road. Hope Gibbs enjoys the ride!!
ReplyDeleteMy brother almost always takes a pot of chili with him on his hunting trips. It is definitely easier to transport and it's something most people will eat. (My daughter won't eat it with beans...which makes it a spicy spaghetti sauce in my mind). Cheese and sour cream is always good too!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
Sounds like fun times ahead!
ReplyDeleteChili is a great and easy meal to prepare and take with you. Your rolls look awesome. Have a great time on your get away.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip!
