The Ridge
On Friday, May 22nd we all got up a bit earlier. Gibbs and Bill at 5:45 and me at 6:45. Because of Bill taking Ptooties in to Hanover, and because of her damaged passenger windshield, he wanted to leave early and take his time.

Good morning!
A lazy picture, taken from my
recliner so not very clear.
Last night's after glow.
I wanted to see him off and that meant I was able to be in to clean the Mat earlier too. I had one regular, whom I didn't recognize and haven't seen yet this spring, but he knew me and we chatted about how he was impressed with the way I detail the machines. I guess Ron doesn't do that. 😏

Last night while watching tv,
this little family walked through our back
yard from the berm.
When I left there, I drove to get a bottle of water and then scooted home. It sure didn't seem like as nice a day as we were 'promised'. The clouds moved in right quickly after Bill left at 7 so I wondered if him switching us to solar was a good idea.

Gibbs was so tired last night,
he konked out on my lap.
It did improve by 10:30 or so but it was windy making it a longer wait for the warmth to appear. Gibbs and I went out at 11 and I prepped the garden 'plots' by adding some more of the top/potting soil to them. I couldn't stop there, so before lunch, I got all 12 plants in the dirt. ☺️
Such a good feeling, as my fellow gardeners know. I'm a lazy gardener compared to many but this felt good. They will get full sun so I may need to put a shelter up there at some point. Hmmm.🤔 This is where I first had a garden and it did well so🤞.

We are confused with how many
goslings we actually have on the Ridge.
It was lunchtime when we finished (Gibbs and I) and Bill and I chatted about some news I received earlier this morning. I'll share it next week, you can wait. I am still digesting it myself. It's all good, no worries.
Bill was waiting at Donna's place until Ptooties was finished. They couldn't go any further on the job, the mudding wasn't dry, so once she was ready, Billy would take him and he'd be on his way home early. That's always nice, especially on a Friday. he works hard, that man of mine.

Across our front field this morning,
I counted 16 children and 6 adults.
For my lunch, I had the last hard taco with leftover ingredients from the other night. Gibbs and I went back out and I watered the plants. By now the sun was out and it had warmed up nicely. We walked to check the mailbox, which was empty, and on the way back, I gathered broken branches from along the lane. We have enough for another trailer load, maybe tomorrow.

Bill was home before 2 and Ptooties was proud of her new windshield and wiper, which got broke in the incident. We'll need to visit Marlon Brando to get a new sign in Mexico this winter......that got split in half. 😕
Bill didn't want to 'sit and rest' (surprise, surprise) so got the mower out and cut the berm grass. While he did that, I finished filling the 'plots' to use up much of the last bag and fed the plants with some water from the rain barrel with Miracle Gro added. They look great now!

Bill carried on with the trimmer and sure made the place look spiffy. We are expecting some rain tomorrow so won't have to think about it for a few days at least. I came in after trying to sit outside with Gibbs. I was done for the day and I hoped Bill soon would be.

Sitting on Main St. while Bill
nipped into the bank I saw
this sign.
Orange and Jalapano Liquer?
Ewwww!
I wanted to be outside but with my netted hat, it just isn't the same. The little buggers (sorry, that's what they are!) were all around my face. Gibbs came in right behind me so he'd had enough too. We did reach about 17C/63F and it was quite pleasant, even with the winds. No full sun either.
At 5:15, we were cleaned up and drove to the Curling club to count tickets and $$ before tonight's Catch the Ace draw. We didn't win Barrie's last night, but someone did. They found the Ace of Spades and pocketed $265,000+. How nice that would be! Congrats to the winner!

Driving home after the
Catch the Ace draw.
Still unlucky.
I was able to give Kat the craft supplies for the Youth Program and she was delighted and said they would use it. We were home by 7 and had grilled cheese sandwiches. I perked mine up a bit with a sliced tomato and it was all very filling.
We watched the finale of Sheriff Country tonight and carried on with Bosch. So much that I don't recall and what I do, is not an issue seeing it again. I do enjoy the characters. This was a great day and it's Friday so Bill has a couple of days off.

This is my phlox 3 years ago.
May 22, 2023.
Good night.
Thank you for stopping by!

Wow, your phlox sure grew that year. Look at all those babies.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes the phlox hasn't been that good since!
DeleteWow $265,000 would be an awesome win ... I'm sorry it wasn't you!
ReplyDeleteThanks. We are too!
DeleteSmooth sailing all day. We had our windshield replaced last year after a rock hit it. We lived with the crack for a while but then it was so nice to get it fixed. Good luck with the garden, and those phlox sure are pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCongrats on getting your garden in. It is a nice feeling waiting for the stuff to mature! Your phlox is lovely! I have a couple of patches on my hill. I wish it bloomed longer though. Looks like rain....I won't mind, then the garden will get a drink!
ReplyDeleteThanks sis. The phlox has member been so good since. 🤔
DeleteLove seeing those goslings!! I'd be following them around all day! Your garden looks great. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy.
DeleteI often wonder at the sight of that number of goslings. Are the six adults the parents or day care workers? :)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that money make life easier? Lucky winner!
Glad the windshield was repaired quickly.
This might help with keeping your House Batteries charged on cloudy days.
ReplyDeleteEach winter we spent at Quartzsite we learned little tricks and one was for keeping our Batteries charge. The last winter, we added a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine to supplement the Solar Charge System. Many don't realize that both systems can be run at the same time. Many use Horizontal Wind Turbines but they are noisy, wear out the yawl bearings often because of the constant wind directional change and require a solid mount. A Vertical Axis Wind Turbine is quiet. never has to swing because it catches the Wing from all directions and only needs a Mast with Guide Wires.
Many came to check out our system while we were there, because the lack of noise. It meant there was no need to use their big Generators.
At the time, the largest unit available on Amazon.com was a 3,000 Watt Unit. Back in Canada, they were not even offered. Today at Amazon.ca you can get a 20,000 Watt Unit for less then we paid.
While you go to Quartzsite, it could be left mounted at the Ridge or brought along and remounted when you get there. This is the one I believe would serve your needs, especially in you area.

Always fun watching the goslings as they grow but I fear for their safety against the predators. Nice Flowers!
Stay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
That certainly is lots of goslings!
