A Lovely Sunday

 The Ridge

On Sunday, July 27th we were all awake around 3 am. Me, when I felt spatters of rain coming in from my open window and Bill, well, I'm not sure what woke him. He was up and downstairs with Gibbs 'watching' the storm.

Good morning!
It was a heavy rain and
I appreciate it very much.
No watering!

I only felt the rain and then saw some lightning. I don't recall whether I heard thunder but I know it rained quite heavy for a while. Soon, I dropped  back off to sleep. We were up at 6:15 again, Bill out with Gibbs and me doing my morning stretches.

He was going flying and I was doing laundry so we sorted the clothes and Bill put the basket in Ptooties. I was opening the Mat door at 7 and walked into a totally different looking laundromat than last time.

But it all changed.
My camera shows that cloud really black,
but it truly wasn't. That is
blue sky, however.

No dryer sheets! No mud on the floor! Nice. Dollar Store Dave arrived soon after as did one of the chatty fellows that I see weekly now. He has a trailer at a park outside of town so I can expect to see him for a few more weeks. 

It wasn't a real surprise to find that Sandy had added up my hours and left my pay in the office. He has been on the ball this summer! So, I stopped at the bank, after getting a bottle of water filled, and deposited my cash.

The forecast was not calling for any more rain today so even though the sky was still gray with clouds, I took the clothes home to hang. It was pleasant when we got up and was soon becoming warmer. There was and has been a lovely breeze all day, which helps a lot.

I didn't bother closing windows because of the breeze and haven't regretted that decsion at all. Bill was home for lunch and I made us bacon and eggs for a nice change. He dozed beside me while I read and then we both went out to cut grass.

I needed to straighten the screen tent,
obviously.
(and I did)

That's when the day heated up for me. First, I had to get the clothes off the line so Bill could cut the berm and they'd dried very quickly. Pushing that mower around for 30 minutes wears me out. No, it isn't that heavy, it is the exertion in the heat.

When I finished the lawn, I was not a pretty sight. Ask Gibbs. Red in the face, clothes sticking to me with sweat so I wasted no time and had a wonderful cool shower. Mucho better!! 😂 

There was a nice breeze wafting across the
patio, we both enjoyed it.

Gibbs and I sat out on the shaded patio while I read and when the flies wouldn't leave me alone........I didn't spray.....we came inside to read some more. For supper, Madame IP cooked the last half of a turkey roast that was in the freezer. 

I obviously wouldn't win any
magazine covers for displays,
but the meal was good!

Took all of 15 minutes along with a couple of potatoes. Coleslaw on the side would be enough to fill us both.

This has been a really nice day, another 28C/83F summer day. We have some company coming tomorrow so we're looking forward to that.

Another Beautiful Day, Special Party

The Ridge

On Sunday, May 19^th Bill was up first and in the shower. This morning, he wanted to go to his flying field and re-acquaint himself with his fellow Saugeen Flyers. 😊 He wasn’t prepared to fly and didn’t have time even if he did. We had a prior engagement later. He took Ptooties and, along with other errands including a car wash, he had a nice social time.

At home, Gibbs and I were outside most of the morning. After my shower, I took my coffee out with me and filled the 3 garden bags. Well, good thing I put them in my wagon, as it was very challenging to move them to the appropriate area. I did plant in two of them and will pick up more vegetables later for the third bag. Bill will have to help me lift them out into the spot where they will remain for the summer. The instructions on Amazon sounded as if you could move them easily. Ha!

Then Gibbs and I sat in the tent shelter and enjoyed the fresh air while waiting for Bill to return. No bugs/flies or such bothered us in there. 😊 At 11, Bill returned with no time to spare, loaded our 2 chairs, gift, and each other into Ptooties. I’m glad he had time to get her washed this morning, from running the back roads to and from his work, she was embarrassingly filthy! Gibbs had to stay behind today so I opened windows, pulled blinds, and turned the overhead fan on for him.

We arrived at Krystal and Matt’s a few minutes after 12. Alexander’s 1^st birthday party was scheduled for 12:30. We set up our chairs outside and went in to see the little gapher. He’s grown so much and we’ve been following along with Krystal’s pictures each month. He was timid, but not just with us, there were a lot of things going on so we didn’t push ourselves on him. One on one time is better for that and we’ll see him more over the months ahead.

I even skipped a cupcake and
had a small scoop of frozen yogourt instead.

It was a very hot day, hottest yet this spring, reaching 27C/80F before the day was done. There was a lovely breeze in their back yard and no biters until later in the day. One mosquito found me before I sprayed myself. ☹ Matt and Krystal had put out quite the spread of food for our lunch and we enjoyed it very much.

but warmed up to the idea of  his own C_A_K_E!

Then we all watched Alexander eat his little cake (or half of it) and open his gifts. He loved the greeting cards best of all! Funny little guy. ♥

We left the party around 4 and were home just around 5. Part way home, I took over driving so Bill could relax his eyes without danger to our health! 😊 Not sure what we’ll do yet for supper, but will come up with something simple for both of us. The day tomorrow will be a busy one, helping Robin out with lawn cutting and trimming at two properties. Hmm, maybe we can’t keep up with that next time as well as our own. We’ll see.

A nice drive home with very little traffic

Tonight was quiet, catching up on a couple of our shows. We’ve had a great day and the weather couldn’t have been more in our favour. We got to see 3 of Bill’s 4 daughters and 5 grandchildren so a pretty good day. ♥

Oh, What a Beautiful Day! (- minus some frustrations)

The Ridge

On Thursday, May 2^nd I woke to the promise of a lovely day coming our way. With a forecast high of 20C/67F and no rain, I was looking forward to it. It was 7:20 when I woke up realizing that I had to go in to town this morning to clean. It doesn’t take long to wash and get dressed so I made my tea and was on my way just after 7:30. I didn't take any pictures this morning, reading on you will see why.

One customer was all I encountered and he was there for another 10 minutes before he folded his laundry and left. I worked the hour, collected my pay that Sandy left in the office desk, and went to the bank to deposit it before heading for home. Bill had texted and said that M’s phone had died (again) and could I stop on my way home. ☹

This afternoon I had a little bird centre going on

I don’t mind helping to a certain point but I’m no saint. It is getting old, his need for help. After getting the tenant set up, I was hoping for a few quiet days with no ‘calls for help’. Not so. I wanted to work at home with Bill and see what we could accomplish on this rare spring day. Bill said to do what I needed to do and get back as soon as possible. So, I went back and took M to Hanover’s Bell store. That was like kissing 2 hours of my life goodbye and with no resolve.

I won’t go into it other than we both left very frustrated – me especially. I dropped him off and came home for a late lunch (again) with Bill. I went back once more to try and get through to Virgin Plus to see what they suggested about his phone but without passwords and pin #’s (inconveniently forgotten) you can’t talk to a real person. I let him call another ‘runaround friend to set up pickups over the next 3 days, to run him into town. We’re having company and I’m NOT available.

Back home, I blew off steam to my sweetie’s ears and felt better. What a gorgeous day to be missing! Bill had cleaned up all of the piles of branches he cut yesterday and got the hose and bottles down in the pond for our pump set up. I helped a bit with the new cover for our shelter and then filled bird feeders to our feathered friends. 😊 I still haven’t boiled hummingbird food but will tonight. There is an orange on the oriole feeder so hopefully they will make an appearance soon. We had lunch and I finished my leftover quesadilla.

Oh my, the sun felt so good!

I didn't need it for the heat but the crackling
was calming. I needed that.

Then we sat with a drink outside and Bill burned some cardboard and paper in the pit. It feels great to be in shorts again! ♥ Tomorrow and for the next 3 days the rain returns but we are hopeful it won’t be a complete washout for the weekend.

Supper was good. Bill’s Burgers, he had his on a burger bun and I cut mine and had it in my last keto hotdog bun. It worked well! We had canned pears for dessert for a change. I was happy that although had a natural sugar content, they weren’t too sweet.

The sun has been perfect all day, not too hot, not humid at all and although Bill saw a number of little black flies this morning, they were gone by afternoon. He plans on going to the Hangar tonight and will watch 9-1-1 down there and I’ll watch it up here. 😊 This has been a fine day up here on the Ridge.

A Beautiful Summer, er Winter, Day!

Bill and Gibbs started Saturday, Mar. 18th at 6:15 and the little guy must have had to go badly. He jumped off the bed with no encouragement and went out without hesitation. 😊 That’s why it is so hard to figure him out! Gibbs came back to bed with Mom and we lazed until 7 when I got up. My shadow followed me. ♥

Good morning!

I had my tea and Bill left for the field shortly after 7:30. My chores (laundry) were done and the puzzle was finished so after taking Gibbs for his walk, at 8 I walked to the flying field to see the gang. Soon, Carol Ann and Kobus will be heading out for their slow trek home to B.C. as are the other Canadian fliers. I wanted to see Bill fly one last time as well as chat with the ladies a bit.

It was a pleasant walk with my jacket on, facing the breeze from the northwest.  At the town park, on the corner, I saw the setup for the Buck Connors Western Days well in the throes. If we had another couple to go with, we might have gone this weekend but otherwise, we skipped the 2 day (?) event. I cut through Celia’s Rainbow Garden again, it is very special, so I took some pictures. ♥

At the field, I chatted with Carol Ann, Vera and Darlene while the husbands flew and socialized. It is a nice group of people and although I don’t go often, I am very happy that Bill has such a nice bunch to hang with. 😊

We stayed for a couple of hours and at 10 I hitched a ride home with my Sweetie. I wish it wasn’t as far as it is (even though it isn’t far at all) so Gibbs would walk that distance with me. He would stop part way and that’d be it.

We haven’t heard much about Rick, only that he was out of surgery at 4:30 yesterday so we still wait for the best outcome. Thank you all for your prayers. Also, for your congrats on Bridgette’s successes in her job. For the remainder of the morning, I painted more rocks and clear-coated them. After seeing Darlene’s, mine look very amateurish but at least I have fun painting them to fill in time here.

We heard from our friends, Dave and Cheryl, who are back in the area for a few days. We’re happy to hear they’re coming for Happy Hour tomorrow afternoon. It will be great to see them before we all strike off for our homeland. 😊 For supper, we decided Bill’s bacon cheeseburgers tonight instead of tomorrow night. It looks like some weather (winds) will be moving in so it is a good decision. I also heard from our friends, Loree and Ron for a brief text-chat. Happy 8 month birthday to their fur baby, Reggie. 💓

This has been a great day. I enjoyed the walk; the painting and I even got my other Downton Abbey puzzle started. Gibbs and I went for our afternoon walk after my tea was done and we reached a lovely temperature of 72F/23C. I actually left the zipper up on my gazebo while in there, it was that warm!
