A Wrap Up of a Quiet Day, Big Boy’s Birthday, Coming Unravelled

On Friday, Mar. 11^th things pretty much followed the routine we’ve become used to. Up at 7:30, Gibbs and I get out for our walk, breakfast and then we do whatever we want.

We sat around together, Bill taking care of insurance renewals back home and I began a short wrap up of what we’ve purchased this year. It’s early, yes, and we know we haven’t spent a lot this year but still like to be ahead of the game. We always risk the chance of being asked at the land border. It was windy already at 7:30 so Bill couldn't fly.

I decided to stay home this morning with the boys instead of going over to start a new puzzle. At 12:30, I made a salmon wrap and Bill had a sandwich for lunch.

Now it was time to wander over to the clubhouse where I put the finished puzzle away and opened up a new one. It was quiet in there, with Sue in the office. Sometimes she is chatty but today she stayed in the office mostly. That’s okay. 😊

I plugged away at the border pieces and did the best I could. This puzzle has quite a few of the questionable pieces that ‘could be’ border so it will take a while for the holes to fill in. After an hour and a half, before I started talking to myself, I left. It was only 2:30 so a good time to get to work on my afghan and see if I can finish it today. Gibbs and I went for a walk around the park and then I made a tea and sat on the couch where I could spread it out.

I was thankful that Gibbs went upstairs with his Daddy and slept on him for over an hour as it gave me time to work on it steady. I wasn’t too thankful for the mess the last ball of yarn was in! Sometimes, they pull out easily all the way from beginning to end. This one, not so much so I asked Bill to unravel it for me tonight. ♥ He’s good at it and has the patience while watching tv to get it rolled up in a nice little ball for me.

For supper, I coated 3 boneless chicken thighs and air fried them in Rosy. On the stove, I steamed my broccoli, fried leftover potatoes for Bill and cooked his corn in the microwave. Supper was excellent! The thighs were cooked perfectly and with the coating, they were so good. We loaded and turned the dishwasher on and Bill sat with the tangled wool.

I worked on my blog and that was when our daughter called from Alberta. It is Easton’s 3^rd birthday today so it was a good time for her to place a video call. She has her hands full. We chatted for a bit, saw 2 sweet little faces and giggles from Easton and Hadley. It was nice to see them on screen, we're concerned about his card though that hasn't arrived. I can't remember when I sent it but we asked Jess to let us know when it arrives. This was a great day!

Saturday with my Sweets, Happy Birthday, Nate! No Walk = No Pictures

My ‘Sweets’ and I were up by 7:30 on Saturday, Feb. 27^th. The house was quiet, with no one else up yet. We went down to make our coffee and tea before I sorted the clothes. Susan usually does her laundry first and that frees up the machines for us to get ours done so I was in no rush to sort. We sat at our laptops with our brew and I started and finished Friday’s blog post. That was a busy day so I had nothing written at all! 😉

With that done, I took the time to go on the ‘new’ Rockford auction site. There are 30 pages and I didn’t have time to peruse those yesterday either. We find it interesting and the Rockford one has better quality stuff, including tools etc. that Bill is more interested in. I found a couple of things to bid on right away but mostly, I’ll just keep ‘watching’ until closer to the closing on Wednesday.

I went downstairs around 11:30 and Susan was done in the laundry room so I put our sheets and towels in. Bill had eaten toast and peanut butter earlier so wasn’t hungry when I was. I had some yogourt and warmed up the leftover soup for my lunch with crackers. That hit the spot. At some point, in between loads of laundry, I worked on the puzzle. At one point, I went out to the car and brought in my auction picks and sorted through them.

I’d picked up 3 models of cars for Bill for a meagre 3$ and we discovered that 2 were partially put together, roughly, making the decision to only keep the third one. There were brushes, various good paints and some glue that easily made it a good purchase. I was pleased with everything I bought, some toys for the grands when they visit the Ridge but nevertheless, I had fun checking it all out.

I tucked things into a couple of boxes and went down to make some No-Bake bars for a snack. I had 3 black bananas crying to become bread so I mashed them with dates today. I'll mix it all up tomorrow. We’ve planned fish and chips for supper, since Bill had a burger last night and went down around 6 to start them.

Bill would have at least one movie tonight to watch so I got one of my new dvd’s out to test the external cd drive. It worked just fine before supper so fingers crossed that I can watch A Walk in the Clouds later.

Since I finished my book last night, I needed to find a new one to start on so I got out The Lake of Dreams by Kim Edwards. She is the author of The Memory Keepers Daughter and I enjoyed that one. Gayle gave me this one. The weather today was kind of funny. First thing this morning, it was snowing, heavy at times, but it was a wet snow and soon dissipated and we noticed it melting as soon as it hit the ground. No accumulation to speak of. Good!

It was mild at 3C/38F though we didn’t get as much sunshine as I thought we were supposed to. Maybe tomorrow we’ll see it. I should have walked but I didn’t. Simple as that. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get out. That’s a couple of maybes in a row, ‘maybe’ one will pan out! 😊 Supper was quite good. I am trying to behave with my food choices (gotta get back on track sometime!) so I had about 6 fries and spaghetti squash with my fish. Who knows? Maybe fish and squash will be a new trend! Nah.

After dishes, we came upstairs and I worked on publishing this post. Hopefully, our movies are good ones. I hope you’ve had a great Saturday. Before I sign off, there is a special young lad who needs to be wished a Happy Birthday. My 3^rd biological grandson, Nathan, turned 11 today. We called him this morning to pass the message along and he thanked us for the card and the $ we sent. I’m glad I mailed to arrive on time.

A Dull But Very Special Day, Durham Run, Hockey in Owen Sound

Bill and I both woke and rose around 7 am on Sunday, Sept. 30^th. September 30^th? Hey, this is a very special day for someone in this household. I couldn’t reach him for a hug because there was a furry sleeping lump between us, but we touched feet and I squeezed his hand “Happy Birthday, Sweetie”. After I got up and got dressed, I took the opportunity to give him his present. Just a kiss, don’t get excited!

I got dressed for the out-of-doors, while he made his coffee and settled at his laptop. It was a calm Sunday morning and for the whole 30-minute walk, there was not a vehicle in sight. So quiet and peaceful, my thoughts were not disturbed or distracted by anything other than nature. Aaaah. Perfect. When I returned, I walked up to the garden plot and uncovered my happy pepper and tomato plants. “Thank you” they whispered as they woke up.

I made my tea and read a few blog posts from our friends. Everyone is busy doing something. Some things involve prepping for south travels, others attending hockey games, others exploring beautiful park lands and still others sight-seeing in our provinces. Oh, and one family in particular preparing for a brand-new batch of baby daschunds. There is quite a variety of hub-bub going on and it is all fun to read about.

Bill got a couple of phone calls early this morning, one from Carol, his sister, and the other from my daughter, Bridgette, with birthday wishes. I’m surprised she didn’t sing to him. 😊 His phone was non-stop pinging with new birthday wishes from friends and family across the land. We are so blessed. Yvonne, his oldest, told us that the twins had an afternoon hockey game in our area, so we decided to spend his birthday afternoon in Owen Sound. We had no other plans on this dull Sunday.

We had our omelette sandwiches before getting washed up and then drove into Durham. Black Beauty needed fueling up, we needed to stop at the bank and we also had to drop a prescription off at the I.D.A. for Bill. Back home, we bided the time preparing some birthday cards and then got bundled for the arena atmosphere.

I don’t like to be cold so it has never been my favourite place. Come to think of it, the only time I enjoyed any arena was when I was a teenager in Lucan. I never noticed the cold then, when I was joining my girlfriends for ice skating. Of course, there was some ‘boy-watching’ going on then as well so we were quite distracted. Those days are long gone and my body can’t handle the cold the way it used to. I’ll be taking my Mexican blanket along today.

Sitting here at 1pm it is only 48F/9C. Brrrr. The game starts at 2:45 so we left at 1:45 and drove to the arena. It was a cool day, cloudy and the odd drizzle every once in a while. We arrived at Bayshore Community Centre at 2:30 and saw Yvonne as soon as we walked in. This is a new place for them and the boys only play here once. It is a 2-hour drive for them from Tavistock but quite an impressive venue.

Bill and I enjoyed the game very much, we had a bird’s eye view of young Zach in goal and he played an amazing game. Carter was also very active with his team on the ice and made a number of shots, although unsuccessful today, on goal. We are very proud of these two young fellows. They will have a birthday on Oct. 13 where they will be turning 12. Already! I was quite warm throughout the game with my blanket under and around my legs. The seats are always cold.

We chatted with Yvonne and Dennis while we waited for the boys to change out of their gear and join us.

It is always quite the sight to see them proudly lugging their huge hockey bags with beaming smiles on their faces. I love their hats. Such handsome boys. I got a couple of pictures and then we said goodbye, with the hopes that we see all of them on Oct. 20^th.

From there, Bill wanted to drive to the Bayshore Community Boat Launch to see the memorial that honoured his Uncle Kelly. We did that and I took a few more pictures.

The last time we were here was July 22^nd of 1995 to witness the dedication. We weren’t even married yet, it seems like such a long time ago! A couple more pictures here and then onward to Durham where we filled the Rav with gas. Now both vehicles are set for a few days. Bill will be taking Black Beauty to London in the morning so I have the Rav for the time he is away.

At home by 5:30, Bill fed Clemson and I started supper. We had some roast beef to finish up and I cut up some onion, pepper and zucchini in the fry pan before adding hash browns. We each had a sliced tomato on the side and it was a filling meal. Two of Bill’s daughters called after supper so we were able to make plans with Krystal about dinner before we leave since she won’t be home on the 20^th.

We also got to hear about what Charlotte’s family is up to and how school started for the girls. Bill made his sandwiches for the next couple of days and packed his cooler.

It has been a nice birthday celebration for him, even though it was a miserable weather day. We had a good day together.
