Perfectly Wonderful Day!

The Ridge

On Friday, Aug. 23^rd, I am happy to start with this title. From the moment I got up at 6:45, it was a good day. 😊 Bill did have to go to work but he is pleased that he got in an ‘almost’ full week of work so we won’t grumble about that. It’s a day off for me, which is great as I had a couple of things to do.

Good morning! 
I was up on time to see the sun rise.

through the evergreen. 

After Bill left, I sat with Gibbs and had my tea and played my morning games. Sometimes they go lickety-split, other times, not so much but that makes it worth the challenge. I got washed and dressed at 8 and drove into Durham to ‘finally’ take Rob and Pat their cards (for his birthday and their anniversary) and a gift we’ve picked up for them. They were leaving after 9:30 to go to the island for a few days.

I’m so glad they are feeling better, things that it isn’t my place to go into, and hope they have a relaxing ‘holiday’ away from home. It was a short visit because I didn’t want to get in the way of their schedule but it was very nice to get the hugs and a wee bit of catch-up time. When they return, we all will commit to getting together. 😊 ♥ I filled our water jug while in town and returned home for the rest of the day.

 My lawn mower was charged from yesterday so got it out and cut the area up here, moving chairs, the table and hammock as I went. Gibbs made sure to keep well out of the way every time I got near. You’d think we had traumatized him with these motorized things but we haven’t! Goofy little guy. Then we sat together, first in the shade until I cooled down, then in our separate spaces. 😊 The lawn looks great again.

Sitting outside with my book, clouds moved over and then off again throughout the afternoon but it was a lovely day.

We walked to get the mail after lunch and then I felt like starting a fire. I didn’t need the heat but there was some cardboard sitting around just waiting to be burned. I do enjoy a fire, even in the daytime!

Bill was home by 2:30 so that was really nice for him too. I made a tea and he went to the Hangar for a bit before supper.

Bill’s ‘best grilled’ Burgers tonight on the menu, since it is the perfect night for a barbecue. I made the decision to have the lettuce instead of a bun though, so I don’t get carried away with the bread. 😊 After we ate and cleared up, we accepted Donna’s invite to the Acreage for a while to sit around their firepit. It has been quite cool for a few overnights but starting to change today so it should be nice.

I think all that I’ve mentioned and documented above justifies my title of it being a wonderful day. We reached 24C/75F this afternoon. No complaints from this gal! I hope you can say the same.

A Nice Walk, A Lovely Day and Taking it Easy

Wednesday, Feb. 8^th started out with a chilly 40F/4 .4C but other than a few low-lying clouds on the horizon, it was calm and promising. I like beginnings like that, with the promise of becoming wonderful.  Yay, the strong winds are gone. 😊

Gibbs and I went for our walk after we all got up around 7:30. It was his normal 12 minutes or so but it was fast-paced. He’s getting better this winter, with his walking, although the sniffing has to be controlled a few times or we’d be out there all day. It’s ‘his’ walk so he gets a lot of liberties. He likes to greet the newest host, Gerald, who loves to greet him in return, but Gerald wasn’t outside yet.

Back home, Bill was just leaving and had, once more, turned off our power source. These sunny days sure help with the monthly electric bills! I had my tea and yogourt with Gibbs and before 9, I was washed and ready to head out for my walk. I took back streets and wound my way up through the parking lot at Roadrunner Market. I didn’t need to go that far, but I was listening to my podcast so was in the mood to keep walking.

The cool air was in my face as I walked to the west and my jacket was buttoned up to my neck. When I turned the corner to walk south, the sun was on my left and hit me like a blast of true Arizona heat. I couldn’t believe the impact on my face and body as I walked along the sidewalk. It just set my day off with an awesome glow and I was already feeling pretty great! I had the impulse to stop an spread my arms out, it was that nice. ♥

My destination this morning was Family Dollar. I just like to walk up and down the aisles and see if there is anything I can’t live without. I did find a couple of things that found their way into my basket and then I found a few of the items in the food section that I was looking for. I almost think the dollar stores are the busiest stores in town. Why not when you can pick up a few good things at a fraction of the cost?

Back home, I was surprised to see Bill home. Well, not 100% surprised since this was club meeting morning at the hangar. I had thought they might go to the field after the meeting but he didn’t. We sat outside in the gazebo together and chatted while I drank my coffee. It was quite lovely out there again with the door zipped up.

Bill has been figuring and talking a fair bit lately about our trip homebound. Just running ideas through his head so he shares them with me. I don’t have a lot of input, he’s my ‘guy’ for the travel route and unless there is something specific I want to do on the journey, I trust his every instinct. I don’t remember enough about the routes we’ve taken from one year to the next so listen and ask questions as he talks. 😊

I hate thinking about it but I know these last two months will zip by and the question of “what time do you think we will pull out?” will be upon us. I wish I was better at the geography of the country we’re travelling through but I never have been and this is as good as it gets for me. I’ve learned more on our travels than I ever did in school. LOL

After a cold plate for lunch, I painted a rock and then walked over to work on the puzzle. Bill went to Jim’s to look at a plane kit and do some wheelin’ and dealin’. I wasn’t surprised when I returned at 3:45 to see the box sitting on the island counter. 😉  There was NO money involved, just an exchange of parts. Sounds like a good deal and my pilot is happy.

The donation of puzzles

I made huge progress on the puzzle and while I was there, Suz received a call from a fellow rv’er who had 5 or 6 puzzles to donate. Did we want them? They are mostly 500 pc. ones so should be relatively fast to do and she said yes on behalf of us puzzle makers. 😊 I had my cup of tea and then took Gibbs for our afternoon walk, on which we stopped at Kobus and CarolAnns for some very warm ‘pets’. They just love him!

I did a bit more painting until 5:30 when I started supper. Chicken thighs in Rosy, baby potatoes and corn for Bill as well as Brussel sprouts for me. Supper was good but mostly those sprouts! They were delicious and from frozen. ♥ I haven’t had them for a very long time. We had orange Jello for dessert and guess what? The Jello jiggled. 😊

‘Tis a Wonderful Day in our Neighbourhood

On Friday, Dec. 17^th we followed our usual routine. Up at 7, Gibbs and I went for our walk and returned for our breakfast with Bill. Gibbs had his usual kibble, Bill had toast and jam and I decided to blend some banana and strawberries with the yogourt and cream for a smoothie. Hmmm, it was quite good and filling too!

Bill had something to pick up at the hobby store in Yuma so left at 9:30 and then I walked up to the clubhouse for Ladies Poker Pool for 10. Gibbs looked after the house while we were gone. Bill returned home first and I walked back around 12 noon. I actually won 2 games, altogether now “Woohoo!”. That just doesn’t happen for me so of course the ladies teased that I have been practicing. 😊

We discussed lunch and agreed on Cinnamon rolls, courtesy of the Pillsbury doughboy. I baked them though so deserve some credit! ♥ I only eat 2 of mine, saving 2 for another morning. They were good. After dishes, Bill and Gibbs went for their snooze and I slipped back up to work on the puzzle. I was pleased to find Elaine there and we caught up where we left off the other day.

We worked well together, conversing the whole time and made a huge dent in the finished product. At 3:15 we both left for home. Each time we meet, we learn a bit more about each other. The joy of this lifestyle. At 4:30, I packed our ‘go’ cooler bag with utensils and dishes for supper. Tonight is bbq supper night and for $6/pp we get our fill, cooked and cleaned up by others. 😉

My choice tonight was to have a hot dog with the mac & cheese and blueberry crisp. We always get a bag of chips and mine came home with me. We had a nice visit with American friends, Diane, Don, Judy and Al tonight. Gibbs was waiting for us at the door when we returned and got his supper right away. Now the whole family has been fed (and watered).

The Ridge

I felt quite good when I woke on Sunday, June 14^th. Even though I’d just woke from a dream, I felt that I’d slept well. Seems like I’m laying on my right arm more now and wonder subconsciously because my left one aches? Strange how we change habits. Just goes to show that we are not as rigid in our living as we think.

 We’d left the Blue Flame heater on the lowest setting, yes Bill got it out yesterday, and it was a perfect temperature to wake up to. We slept in until 7:30 this morning so the 11 pm bedtime governed my sleep time. It was nice as we had no reason to ‘get moving’. I did dress for my walk though and headed out the door just before 8 while Bill sat and had his coffee.

It was pretty nice out, 10C/50F and the sun was shining with low breezes. Perfect! I walked 1 ½ miles down Baptist Church Road and of course saw the deer out in the field. No zoom camera, again. It was nice to see her/him eating even if it was the newly planted crops. Approaching Mitch’s house, he pulled out of the lane and rolled his window down for a chat. Funny, he didn’t recognize me in brown hair. 😊

I had my tea when I returned home and Bill headed over for a bladder of water. We weren’t low, 40 gallons, but it will save him going at the end of a busy work day if we top up now. While he was gone, I had a nice long shower and read a couple or three blogs. Bill went up the berm to my clothesline and dug a new hole to re-situate its location. He wasn’t trusting that the stake when pounded in wouldn’t hit a rock. Our ground everywhere is the rockiest.

We walked over to our neighbour’s to the east. They have SOLD their house and have been packing up for a couple of weeks. We wanted to thank them for their help and support with food and water when we returned from the southwest. Tammy was the only one home but we had a lovely chat, making us realize that we will be missing out on a nice friendship.

Bill played frisbee with Cooper, their 5-year-old dog. What a smart cookie he is! All I had to do was say the word Frisbee and he went and got it for a game. We wished them luck and she did the same for our future travels and we left with a homemade gift from Tammy. More about that in another post.

Like any of us when we are moving, there is always 'stuff' available for free

 I was in my garden clothes so went out to start work. Bill was rigging up a way for me to water ‘the hill’. I had expressed how I was afraid of losing the Columbine especially. Everything else seems to have taken root. It was very sweet of him to set up the truck, a 12v pump, hoses and Donna’s sprinkler. We (he) connected the hose to the rain barrel, which was close to full, and manipulated the sprinkler until they were all watered satisfactorily. Good job! The rain barrel is now only half full.

Speaking with Donna later, she told me to keep the sprinkler, she doesn’t use it now that she doesn’t plant vegetables at the Acreage. Cool! It seemed to help water soak into the ground better than me standing pouring from a watering can. One day, we’ll figure out how to get water from the pond, up the hill to water the gardens and wash vehicles. It takes $$ that we don’t have right now.

It was time to do some more edging so the area up near the patio between our two little cherry trees was next. I thought it would be easier but the edger wouldn’t work because of all the various sized rocks up there. Good grief! So, it was on my hands, knees and butt digging with my trowel that I made a suitable trench all the way around. It doesn’t look like much, but it took me about 2 hours from beginning to cleanup. There are still rocks to carry down to the Hangar area.

I could feel it in my body that it was time to quit so sat for a bit outside. It was a good time to call my son. Patrick was busy digging too and explained about his chore and their plans for making their property around the pool look nicer. He is a worker. Runs in the family. Then I went for a walk down to see Bill, my worker. He was busy in his cargo trailer with a bit more painting. Keeping himself busy too.

I walked down the laneway and back with very few critter sightings today. Everyone is enjoying their Sunday. Well, I always see Chippy at least once each day and that is worth a smile or two. I was also surprised to see Carmelita (why not?) sitting on her picture frame by the pump again. She had disappeared for a couple of days so this was a treat! Hola, como estas? She must be Mexican with her bright colour.

It was time to come inside and start my post, which I did. I wanted to mix up some whipped topping so blended vanilla, whipping cream and Splenda and put it in the fridge. Bill came in a bit later, finished for the day, and went upstairs for a snooze. I sat in my chair and tried to read. I didn’t get very far and my own eyes were getting droopy. I’m sure I dozed as well. At 6, we both got up, meeting in the kitchen at the same time. 😊

We are just having bacon cheeseburgers tonight and corn on the cob. I decided to have mine sans bun. It isn’t the same but I feel I’m eating too many carbs right now. For dessert, Bill had some Chapman’s Black Cherry ice cream and I had the Jell-o with some added whipped topping. That made a difference but I think I’ll keep them separate until serving them up until it is gone. I’ll certainly pay more attention next time!

This was a great day! Donna and Gerry spent the day at the Acreage as well so I’m hoping they enjoyed it as well. The temperature reached 18C/65F here and the sun is still beaming down from a cloudless sky at 8 pm.
