A Bit of a Busy Friday

The Ridge

On Friday, July 18th I
as awake at 5:45 and seemed to be wide awake. I did go up to bed last night at 9:30, didn't even get my blog finished. I slept well but I know the hours were spent in dreams, one after the other it seemed.

Good morning!

Because I was not going to sleep anymore, I got up at 6:15 and came downstairs. Bill left at his normal time and I made my tea. It's nice on the mornings that I don't have to go anywhere at 7. 😀 I sat at my laptop and finished my post before moving on to my winter book.

It was coming along nicely and I was still sitting in my loungewear (fancy word for sweat pants and hoody) at 9:40 when M called for a ride to town. I knew it was a possibility but he wanted to wait until I was done cleaning the bnb.

The morning was chilly, 9C/49F, but the sky was clear and sunny. I can see that my grass needs to be cut but befoe 10, it is so wet with dew that it would be a challenge with my mower. Robin asked me to pick up cash from her place to pay Bill so I did that on my way to Williamsford at 11.

Nice to see a clear sky and smell
the fresh air, even though chilly.
It didn't last and it warmed up to 24C/76F.

The house took me longer to clean today, for one reason or another, and on my way home, at 1:15, I dropped the garbage and recycling bags off at Robin's. She also asked me to leave the 3 quilts and their shams at her place to wash.

I picked M up at 2 and did a 45 minute run into town. Just the Beer Store and Foodland today and I was home. I did not feel like cutting grass at this late time of day, I felt too tired aka lazy. 😂 I'd bought a big pack of pork ribs so split them up for the freezer. 3 nice size portions with lots of meat.

I love our pineapple corer but it hasn't been
used for a long time. Get a load of that
price. It was on the sales rack in produce.

Bill was home by 3:30 tonight and went over to the Acreage to get water. I just sat and finished my book until he returned for a quick snooze. We hopped on Jazz before 6 and drove to the Curling Club for the draw.

Riding on Jazz into town did
not require leather, just helmets
and long pants.

Well, well, well, Bill's #37 was drawn but it was someone else's ticket. Too bad, because that was where the Ace of Spades was hiding. The other fellow won $5,425. It's over for another 4 weeks.

Supper when we returned was toasted tomato sandwiches with ice cream for a follow up. The weather has been perfect all day, not too hot, full sun and a slight breeze off and on. This is how we wish it would stay.  What a great day!

Not from tonight, but on Aug. 14, 2016
we had this gorgeous sunset.

Good night!

Thank you for your visit.

A Busy Friday for All of Us

The Ridge

Friday, June 4th didn’t start out the best for one reason or another but by the time I’d had my tea, I had got caught up on FB messages as well as the Norwex information my consultant was sending me. I’m a bit intimidated by the whole thing, only because ‘new’ things do that to me. My party is June 11 to 13th and I want to be as prepared as I can.

I'm getting familiar with the products

Bill called me around 10 to ask if I could pick his two auction items up from Rockford today. Their invoice was late coming to him and that meant the normal 2-day pickup was shortened (on our end) to one day. We needed to get them before 4 today. His hours on Friday are never set in stone so after I drove to Elmwood to pick my and Gayle’s stuff up from BizyBee, I followed the GPS to Rockford. It’s all quite easy, an organized process.

First time Gibbs climbed up the new steps

On the way back home, I stopped at Gayle’s and dropped her stuff off. Gibbs went along for the ride today and rode in the back with his big boy seatbelt, his bed and his blankey. He was very good. I was going to stop at Foodland for bread and eggs but when I swung through town, the parking lot was absolutely crazy! I’ll get it tomorrow when we go in to clean and do the laundry. I say ‘we’ because I’m hoping Bill will come and do the big dryers.

Coming back from our drive, the sky was pretty

On the drive and at home I felt really tired. I think I slept pretty good but after my cousin mentioning the Amber alert, I remember that it woke me up too. My brain couldn’t associate it to anything at the time but I know I lay awake for some time after. Once we got home, I put Gibbs on his long leash at the bottom of the steps and came in with his bed and my purse etc. He didn’t want to wait and came all the way up the new steps!

He likes to go behind our chairs and sleep here in
between them

I made a coffee, a pumpkin smoothie and had some lunch. I didn’t know what to do next but since Gibbs was sleeping behind the chairs, decided to go to the garden and plant some hostas that Gayle gave me. Sometimes I wish I didn’t love a garden so much as the back breaking challenges involved are almost more than I can bear. Well, I got the 4 plants in the ground and that was enough for today.

Still trying to use up the last of the pumpkin, I blended
a smoothie
It tastes like I'm drinking a pumpkin pie

I just left the wagon up there with the rhubarb plants and will get at it either later when it is cooler or tomorrow. M needed some help sending pictures for an ad so I popped over to help with that. It was a 20-minute visit and I came home with an hour’s pay. 😊 We are showing a big fat ZERO in our fresh water tank so will need to get some tonight. I really wanted a shower, especially after the garden work, but didn’t want to be all soapy and run out. The gauges are never 100% accurate. Are yours?

I planted 4 hostas in the new garden up on the berm

There was a nice breeze today but not too bad for the awnings to be out. I kept an eye on them and have unplugged from power for the afternoon. It’s a lovely day. Bill texted that he might be late so I’ll play supper by ear. I have chicken thighs out and plan to do them in the air fryer with some rice and vegetables on the side. Or perhaps a salad. Gibbs has been good today, so taking him on outings in the car tires him out, it seems. He rang the bell three times today, once very urgently, and has done his business quickly each time. Yay Leroy Jethro Gibbs!

We had quite a few visiting turtles in our
patio area today

We went outside when he rang the bell around 4:00 and I put Gibbs on the retractable leash. We sat (I sat) over by the firepit and he ran around. There are many Mrs. Yertle’s coming up to the gravel and our grassy area all of a sudden. Weird. We haven’t seen much of them at all and in the last 5 days, we are seeing at least one, sometimes more than one each day – up here. Lots of little nesting holes started but that’s it so far.

"What is it, Mom?"

I let Gibbs get close on the lead but say ‘be gentle’ when I think he might bite or paw at it too hard. He is curious and the one by the King chairs is very patient with him. She hardly moved. Bill wasn’t on his way home until 5 and then went directly to the Acreage to get our water bladder full. We stayed outside until he arrived around 5:45. He’d had a beer with Gerry before he left and almost as soon as he stretched out in his chair, he was gone to dreamland.

Gibbs had fun with Mrs. Yertle

Gibbs had gotten his fill of an exciting day too and was asleep just beside Daddy’s chair. My day was pretty full and around 6, I started preparing our supper. Chicken thighs in Rosy (air fryer) with a coating of Shake ‘n Bake, rice cooked on the stove for Bill, Cauliflower rice in the microwave for me and corn on the cob. Yum. It all tasted with the exception of the corn. It was tough, it had been in the fridge too long.

We were eating just before 7. The wind had died right off and I put the awnings out all the way. No more fluttering. 😊 During dishes, as is predictable now, Gibbs rang the bell. I took him out for his piddle and then he laid down on the grass and rolled over for a tummy rub. He is so ‘pliable’ if you can use that for a puppy. Rub his tummy and you can get him to do anything!

Bill couldn't cut the grass in this area for obvious reasons

She was having a hard time getting one stone out but after 30 minutes

I hope she can lay her eggs here

Bill went out after dishes were done and thought he would start cutting some grass. His snooze, which turned out to be a good 40 minutes, must have given him renewed energy. After supper, I’m not in any better shape than I am mid-afternoon. Mornings are more my speed.

There's a first for everything, she hadn't started laying yet
when Mr. Yertle crept up on top of her for about 3 minutes

Before saying 'see ya!'
Interesting

The rest of the evening went along pretty normally and I worked on my blog after feeding Gibbs. I should have had my shower but that will be tomorrow now. We’ll probably get another bladder of water tomorrow to top us up.

A pretty sunset ends the night under our awning
Good night!

This was a good day.

Busy Friday, Winds Pick Up and Gearing up for the Weekend

The Ridge

Up and at ‘em on Friday, Sept. 18th, Bill and I were on the go by 6:30. He wasn’t working too far away today, just down Baptist Church Road to the first concession north and then east. I took my tea into town with me and got the laundromat all spiffed up. No reason to stop anywhere else today so scooted back home by 8:10. I probably just missed Bill as he didn’t need to leave until 8 because of the work proximity.

I wasn't prepared for this but here it was

I didn't have to scrape it though (yet)

I finished my tea and since I was already washed and dressed for auto body work, relaxed for half hour before nipping around the corner. I used the air sander for the whole of my 3 hours there, with a wee bit of hand sanding in a small area around the driver side window. Mitch was full of chatter today but that’s okay, I stop, listen, and then carry on. When I left at noon, he wished me a Happy Birthday and handed me a card with instructions not to open it until Wednesday.

And this happened in the east sky

About 5 minutes after pulling in the driveway, before I even got my stuff out of the car and moved things from back seat to ‘trunk’, Bill pulled in. I wondered if he would come home for lunch but as it turned out, he was done for the day too. Nice! He ate his sandwich and I had a bowl of soup. With the afternoon to ourselves, we discussed what we had in mind.

His plan first was to go to Hanover to drop off the back-up camera ‘harness’, that got damaged as well, at the repair shop that fixed Black Beauty. They were tired of waiting for a new one to come in, (darn Covid!) as were we, so were looking at having one made up for us. Works for us, it would be nice to get it finally taken care of. Bill misses the camera. I did some shopping on line and then when he left, vacuumed the Suite. It was in dire need.

By the time I arrived at the Mat, this was over The Ridge

I had to zoom in to see the pink cotton better
Delightful!

At the same time, I put a few things away for the trip to London on Sunday. Bill had a snooze and then went out to cut grass around 3:30. What a chilly day! I’d gone up to the garden to see what I could ‘gather’, pulled the garden sheets out of the shed for tonight’s covering and moved things out of Bill’s way in our sitting area. We won’t be sitting out there anytime soon. The wind is very cold and we haven’t reached any higher than 10C/51F and it feels even cooler than that.

Coming back from town, a bit of rain and more clouds

The forecast was for a full sunny day
so this was understandable

Inside again, I pulled out ingredients for chili to take tomorrow to a Family Day at Bridgette and Chris’s. I’m sure they’re wishing it would be warmer but maybe we’ll get a surprise and the sun will heat the area up. 😊 My two sisters and their husbands are also going but keeping to the Covid restrictions, I think they limited the invites. You can’t invite ‘everyone’ in case ‘everyone’ responds in the affirmative so they tried to think of the 'most likely to attend' family members, I assume. Anyway, it should be a fun afternoon.

One of our dryer pond sections

I had my tea around 4 and that warmed me up. I’m afraid we’ll need to crank the heater up a bit more tonight which reminds me to put our duvet back on the bed. We have exhausted the ‘trying to stay warm with the chenille bedspread and our Kokopelli blanket’ scenario. 0C/32F means bringing out the big guns! Because I was too focused on other things (don’t I always have an excuse?) I thought we’d have bacon and eggs for supper.

Some wild flowers are still fighting to survive

When I walked to the mail box it was a treat to find a card in the mailbox for me and a bigger treat that the one I left was taken! Wow, the mail lady got it right today! I won’t open mine until my birthday so it will sit and wait too. With not much else to do, I searched our ‘library’ cupboard to find another book to start on. Yes, I finished Without Fail last night. This new one is Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline so we’ll see what it is like.

A good hearty breakfast for supper

Bill finished cutting the back field and came in around 5:30. We went out together and covered the remaining tomato, pepper and lonely pumpkin plants. There were about 4 tomato plants that had no new babies so I pulled them out completely. It took 3 sheets to protect the plants. It sure made my job easier to have his help. Brrr, good thing they are jersey sheets, they will be warm.

Either someone is camping in our back yard
or our plants are covered for the night
Notice the bright coloured soy beans in the background
ready for harvesting

Apparently, we read each other’s mind for supper and that blew me away. Bill thought of it while riding the mower and that’s crazy. 😊 We had toast with it and that was a filling meal. After dishes, we sat together at our laptops with NCIS in the background. The ground beef was thawing in the sink so I’ll start that in the morning before I run into town. I need some Styrofoam cups for serving it up in. Madame IP will make it and we’ll carry it to Woodstock in the crock pot.

This was a good day. I know I earned my day’s pay and I’m sure Bill did as well. A weekend is upon us and I’m sure you are all as ready as we are.

And before the sun says good night
I managed to get a picture

Enjoy and thanks for stopping in!
