What a Wonderful Day!

 The Ridge

On Thursday, May 21st I was up a few minutes past 7, on time to see Bill off to the job. It was going to be a lovely sun-filled day, even though it started off at a chilly 1.667C/35F. When we went to bed last night, we each pulled our single blankets up over the duvet and slept well.

Good morning!
Actually, this made my morning,
seeing our first visit from
this little guy.
I've been waiting.

At night, I have been rubbing Vick's Vaporub on the bottome of my feet and wearing sockettes. For the last 4 nights and by golly, I believe it is the answer to overnight coughing. I never woke once and that's good for Bill too. 😀

I've used some pretty natural remedies for my cold and can say that it is 98% gone. The best news of all is that I didn't share it with my sweetie. After he pulled out, I made my tea and sat at my laptop. I wanted to purchase the Catch the Ace tickets for Barrie so did that online. It would be nice to win!

What do you see?
Or should I say,
"who do you see?"
across the room watching me.

Yesterday, in town we bought our Durham tickets, which would also be nice. Gibbs and I went out to walk a couple of greeting cards to the mailbox and although it was indeed chilly, that sun made a world of difference. We stayed outside, puttering around.

I was very surprised when Gibbs started barking at a vehicle and then realized it was Bill home from work. He'd guessed that it would be another short day but I didn't expect him this early. I think it was just before 11. Surprise! He stayed in the Suite with Gibbs and snoozed until lunchtime.

The pond looks calm today.

I went out and re'painted' a sign that we hung at the gate this year. I used my waterproof markers instead of paint and we'll see how well they last. The sign is vertical and not facing any direct sun so it should be good for the summer at least. It looks readable now.

While down there, I pulled grass and dandelions out of the lily/geranium flowerbed along the fence at the end of the lane. I wish I could wave a magic wand but it was taken away from me in my youth, I guess. 🤣 Bit by bit, the bed gets cleaned up even though I'm never completely on top of the weeds.

It doesn't have to be monumental
to make me happy.
When I saw 2 nests in these hats
it made hanging them years ago
worth while.

I came in for lunch and Bill had already eaten his sandwich from his lunchpail. Cheater! I had toast with jam and peanut butter. Separate, I don't care for them mixed like many do. Back outside I went. Bill was working on repairing the solenoid starter for the dump trailer.

Unfortunately, straps in the box fell on it during one of the last trips and burned important stuff in there. Because it isn't our trailer, he felt terrible and has been trying to fix it ever since. He replaced the solenoid at Mike's suggestion as that seemed to be the issue.

At least it is readable now.

The one he bought wasn't the exact one but might have worked. Today he was determined so hooked up and drove to Flatbed Central near Varney on Hwy #6. He wishes he'd gone there first as the fellow there was very nice and helpful.

He did sell Bill the correct one, giving him a deal, but it works like a charm and we'll eat the cost. It always happens when you borrow something, right? We will tell Robin and Andrew what happened, no secret here! I prayed a lot all day for it to work out  and it paid off. 🙏

Some views, I never tire of.

Just when he tought he was done for the day, I had to inform him that our fresh water tank was reading empty/zero/zilch/0 so he drove to the Acreage at 4 to get a bladder full. Tomorrow he'll be gone all day and if I run out of water........well, I guess I'd survive, but he looks after us.

For supper, we had bbq'd sausages on a bun. I skipped the bun and had carb-less squash with mine. I cheat in other ways, believe me. LOL Before Bill left for water, we removed the tarp from Ptooties.

With the sun shining on his
back, he returned to have another
big drink.

He will be driving her, carefully, to Hanover Speedy Glass in the morning, where Billy will pick him up for work. What a rigmorole I created! I've been in the Bunky for much of the day, purging. I have so many crafting supplies, things I've picked up over the years 'in case' I felt like, well, creating. 🤭

One of our WGDLC members, two actually, are involved with the youth organization here in the area and I'm going to offer stuff to them IF they are interested. If not, it will get dropped at Rethreads in town. It's hard to part with some things, but my interests have changed.

Thirsty little fellow

Supper was good and when it was done and over with, I was happy to tell Bill, who hadn't stopped since he came home, that I made his lunch for him. It's small but he appreciated it. We sat and watched - you guessed it - more Bosch. Only one show finale left and that's tomorrow night so tv is a bust.

Supper was good.
We finished the strawberries and
whipped cream for dessert.

This was a really nice day, reaching 13.88C/57F, warmer than I expected because the wind was low. Overnight will still be about 3C/39F so I'm happy to wait until tomorrow to plant my vegetables. I hope you had a lovely day!

On May 21, 2017 I was
preparing to plant some
geraniums. I've changed things
up since then.
Good night!

Thank you for popping in.

  1. It is nice to feel the sun when working outside, even if it's chilly. I got some stuff done and did plant my veggies. We don't quite get as cold as you on the Ridge so wasn't concerned about frost. Today is promising sun again so will take full advantage and do some yard work!

    1. The sun sure makes a difference and the blackflies weren't down at the road but Bill was getting eaten alive while working on the trailer.

  2. The sign looks great. Maybe get some kind of clear varnish to cover the entire thing? LOVE the birdhouse hats! Who knew they would settle there! Our glass companies comes to us for windshields, but then I don't live quite as far out as you!

    1. Thank you Nancy, thats a great idea. I do have the clear spray so thanks for the reminder to coat the sign.
I've been hopeful about the hats and always like the look and recycling idea of the hats. Even if it didn't work. Yes, Speedy Glass would come here too but we'd have to pay for the service.

  3. Following up on Nancy's comment, check for outdoor ModgePodge. It is clear and waterproof. My daughter has used it on painted rocks.
I understand the need to declutter the crafts. I have so many items from time during the pandemic that I played around with. What a great idea to give these to a organization that works with children. I'll have to check around (and find time to sort).
I'm hoping to plant this weekend too. We have had rain yesterday and today, so things are really wet. But the forecast week is for lots of heat so I'd sure like to have things in the ground!

  4. We picked up a few plants and it just about killed me not to pick up more. I promised Harvey that since we will be gone lots this summer I wouldn't plant as much as usual. Won't have a riot of colour on the deck this year for sure.
I am hoping to start planting at least the perennials this weekend. Just too wet right now.

    God bless.
