Some Work, Some No Work, Summer-like Day

The Ridge

On Tuesday, May 26th the day started out pretty normal for a work day - for each of us. When I got up around 7 and got washed and dressed, I noticed that Bill hadn't been following the normal routine.

Good morning!
Before I even started Ptooties,
I thought this would make a good
picture. I was right.
(note the 5th wheel hitch she tried to push)

His work partner had left messages that he was not going to make it to work today. A mishap was all we knew. It is gearing up for a nice, hot, day so Bill did have things he could be doing at home. All is good. I, on the other hand, had to go to clean the Mat.

A look across the pond to the east.
A very calm morning.

I met with a lady who had a complaint about losing $8 this past week in our most expensive machine. I don't even follow up with the boss, they don't seem to reimburse - not trusting people, I guess. Anyway, I could tell it was a legitimate complaint and I reimbursed her.

I found this picture on my big
Canon camera.
How pretty!

I take the $ out of the machines and she was/is a very nice lady just trying to do laundry like the rest of us. I never saw anyone else while I did my cleaning and left the place in good condition. πŸ˜‰

Never, ever will I get tired
of this. He keeps trying to take
'doggie' outside but I know he'll
try to bury him.

Since it was only 8:30 and I wanted to go back and buy the $3 flags at Dave's $ Store (it's actually called The Crazy Dollar), I waited in Ptooties and played my Wordle games. When Dave opened up his store at 9, I was in and out with 10 of the flags.

I finished the 2 wood plant markers.
Should I cover the sticks? They won't be
outside in the elements.
What do you think?

Back home, Bill was out with the dump trailer on BB, loading the extra branches we've accumulated. He was about done (in more ways than one) when I drove in. The blackflies were eating him alive! He wanted to do some weed trimming but I agreed that he rest for a bit.

When I walked down to see
just where the Kildeer's nest was....
I wasn't surprised but I was freaked.
Such an open spot. Just 2 eggs right
in plain view and the gravel that Bill
backs his cargo trailer onto.
LOL
I marked it with logs so we'll be aware.

He and Gibbs dozed, very briefly (6 minutes, private joke) and I finished 2 wooden plant markers and began prepping more greeting cards. One can never have enough made ahead of time. 🀭 We had lunch together and Bill garbed up and went out to do the weed trimming around our corral.

No worries, I know who this
masked man is.
πŸ’•

When he finished and had done an awesome job, he loaded the weed eater up and drove to the flying field to do some trimming there. He also had some clothing (club) donations dropped off from a former member and wanted to bring them home so mice wouldn't get into the boxes.

It was another photo op in
my opinion.

I wanted to be outside too but ........well, one day soon. Gibbs and I did go out for the mail around 2:30 and then I sat with him and relaxed. We went out again, just after making a cup of tea at 4, he was expecting Bill any time. You know, the 'get home from work' hour. 😍

The pond is drying up on the west
side of the lane.
What a change from a month ago.

We just nicely got our butts into the king chairs and Bill came up the drive. Just that short time, and I could tell my bare skin was going to be someones supper so Gibbs and I came in until Bill joined us. For supper, he'll be out again braving the flies to grill his burgers.

The walk 'to get the mail' is a bit
one sided. Someone found shade,
and stopped. Hard to see him but
he did eventually join me when I sat
on the grass outside the gate entry.

I guess they weren't so bad, I never heard one "you buggers!" out of him. 🀭 These burgers are thin, Great Value (Walmart) brand so we'll finish our last two and have made note not to buy them again. They tasted just fine, but just thin. 🀷‍♀️

Bill did fries with his and I air fried some onion rings. Boy, do I love them! We took care of the dishes and had to dump the gray tank. Usually, without us preserving water at any time, really, other than the obvious, we last about 11 or 12 days before it's time.

The corral all trimmed nicely
and Gibbs races me to the top of the hill.

Bill went to the Hangar for a change and i worked on my blog. I have a couple of programs of mine to catch up on. I've missed a couple of finales. This was a wonderful day with only 1 job outside of the home. Robin had asked me to clean today but her guests decided to stay another night.

The trailer isn't full but
I'm not sure if we'll be able to add
more before Saturday when the dump opens.
Well, πŸ€”there is one more tree I'd like taken out.

I'll clean on Thursday to prepare for her Friday night guests. I think it will be a busy season ahead! Yay! The $ will come in handy to help pay for a few things.

Every other day, I am filling the
jam dish. Both Mr. & Mrs. are
frequent visitors. Yay!

We reached a wonderful high of 27.222C/81F today and if it wasn't for the breeze coming in our windows, the a/c might have been on.

Gibbs helped me finish my burger.
Those last couple of bites are almost
too much for me.
The rings? No one gets to share!
Good night.

Thank you for popping in. Your comments are welcome as is your company. ☺️

All Work and No Play Makes Patsy’s Blog Dull

 Paisley, On

So, I fixed that! On Friday, Nov. 20th Bill was back to his normal schedule of leaving at 6:30 to meet Billy. Since it was a work morning for me, I got up at 7 to go down to get my tea. Bill always preps it for me and all I have to do is hit the Keurig button. Voila! He’s a keeper. I didn’t plan on being past lunch so just took a banana and a coffee with me.

The drive out of Paisley this morning was quiet and
the sky promising

I left Paisley at 8 and found the Mat to be relatively clean, except the floors. To my surprise, in the recycle bin was a full uncorked bottle of wine! Nothing about it looks suspicious but I will be careful of my first sip and not offer it to anyone else until I know it is okay. Stranger things have happened. I left there and drove to the water store to fill our 5-gallon RO bottle and then headed for Hanover.

Why it's drawing up precipitation, I'll never know!

My take at the Mat today
Guess what? The bottle is full and uncorked!

One quick stop at Giant Tiger to pick up the Clark’s brown beans to replace Susan’s that I borrowed, chicken broth and Chipits for baking. This is a wonderful warm day and by 11, I was done work and on my way home. Driving on a good day with country tunes playing, I really don’t mind the 50 minutes to and from work. Singing along with the sun coming in through the windows – yup, puts me in a pretty happy place.

Italian wedding soup is a tasty lunch

Back home, I greeted Susan and came upstairs with some Italian wedding soup for lunch. Plus, my banana. Around 2:00 I slipped on my light jacket and went for a walk down Mill Drive. Susan had told me that the Mill had recently sold and that everything in the store was 40% off. Well, then, that was the direction I was walking. The weather couldn’t be better for a November Friday afternoon. It was 14C/58F when I got home.

Yes, I made it to the trestle train bridge

Before I got to the Mill, I came to the train trestle bridge again. Curiosity got the better of me and I followed a lane (previously thought it was a private laneway) and it took me up to the walkway. Woohoo! My heart was thumping fast, just me being silly, but I knew I had to walk across it to the other side. I gained courage when I saw 2 4-wheelers come slowly from the opposite direction. I felt like I was up so high but I loved it!

Looking to the west along the Teeswater River

Sharing the bridge

Looking to the east towards town

This is where the bridge ends to the north, not sure if I'll go that way alone

I saw this from the road the other day so now I see what it is
from the bridge

I did it!

Bill texted that he was on his way home just as I arrived at the Mill so I told him I’d see him when I got home. I didn’t rush.

There are only two levels accessible to the public but it was better than one!

The mill is certainly an interesting building but I don’t know what all the things are and the owners were busy at the till. There is an upstairs with a lot of handmade crafts as well. Beautiful stuff that I don’t need or can’t afford. 😊 I had fun wandering around and came home with a free painted ‘apple’ basket and some clear glass pieces for our tree. I’m hoping to paint or write on them first.

Upstairs

Main level ceiliing

Large drums upstairs

Bill was in the kitchen eating his lunch, seems they worked right through digging fence post holes. Sometimes that is nice, not stopping, and finishing early. We often wished we had that choice at our regular job in the school board warehouse! I’d finalized plans with Donna that we’d meet in Hanover at their home and the boys would go and get takeout at Chuck’s Roadhouse. It will be nice to do supper with my sibs again.

Back on the mail level there is an old kitchen
behind these triangle displays

‘Someone’ had his snooze around 3:30 and I sat beside him with my crocheting. No book from the library yet. It must be a popular one! When Bill got up, I made the call to Chuck’s for our take-out order. Donna had decided that everyone call in their own. At 4:30, we got dressed semi-nice, packed a cooler of beverages and left the house at 5 for Hanover. Took about 30 minutes and we arrived at the Bains’ residence.

Mitch asked me if I'd found the Paisley Creamery yet
He used to play here as a kid with his family
Not sure if this is the building he means

This is the back side

The boys got our food and we sat around their table and enjoyed it with the company. The meal could have been better. My fish was good, it was haddock but I wasn’t fond of the dry coating (give me the greasy soggy stuff!) and Bill’s bacon cheeseburger was good but the fries weren’t anything special. At least I didn’t have to cook and we didn’t have dishes to do. 😊 I brought home a couple of the containers for leftovers here at the house as I didn’t bring a selection with me.

Still geese in the river

Here, let me zoom in for you

We visited until around 8:30 and drove home. Next time, we hope to do an eat-in restaurant meal but that’s just us. Wes and Susan were half way through a Christmas movie so Bill went in and joined them for the hour.

I wanted to get Christmas lights on camera but there weren't many yet
and they just didn't turn out
This shot of Walkerton (?) will have to do

I crawled into bed and started a new book. It is Sue Grafton’s ‘G is for Gumshoe’. Bill had started it but couldn’t get into it for some reason and before I pass it off, I wanted to give it a try.

I've certainly had better fish but it was still pretty good

At 10 or so, it was lights out. This was a good day and probably the last of our warm ones this month. I hope you enjoyed your day whatever you got up to!

In the parking lot at Giant Tiger, I saw Tommy's friend

a 1930 Model A
Nicely done!
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!

Friday Fun and True Grit

The Ridge
On Friday, July 24th, I could have slept in but apparently my sleep mate could not. He was awake and up at 5:30. I slept on until I HAD to get up at 6:30. Well, only because we wanted to be in at the Mat for 7. Bill offered to go with me this morning as the light and door timer was out of whack. What a difference it makes when all lights are working. I meant to get a picture of Jamie’s fix on the front door but forgot. We'll be back on Sunday so I'll get one then. He did a good job for now.

Good morning!
The sun pushing through the a.m. fog
Bill set the timer and then did the floors for me while I cleaned the tabletops, carts and machines. We were out of there before 8 and home within minutes. I was able to relax with my tea and get over to Graceland 2 for 9. That was nice, rather than 9:30 which it usually is when I work both jobs the same morning. So, Mitch had asked if I would start with deadheading for him so that was my first hour and a bit. It was a nice job today, not too hot and a lovely breeze blowing across his front yard.

The last 40 minutes was inside, finishing the fender and what not (I don’t know what the other thing is!) before leaving at 11. Brian was in again, painting the railings so I wished them both a good weekend and zipped home to Bill. Mike didn’t need him to work today so that was nice, having Friday off. He’s used to eating breakfast now at 6:30 so I wasn’t surprised when he had some cereal around 8:30 before I left.

A large hummer feeder will keep them going for a while
I made myself a coffee and then I, too, wanted a nibble so had about 10 Shreddies myself covered in more cream than I had cereal. 😊 Bill was busy working in the Hangar but when he finished his job (he can write about what he’s doing) he came up for a short snooze. I knew he got up too early! We had some cheddar and then drove down Glen Road (across the highway from Baptist Church Rd.) looking for a recommended gravel haulage business. Found it but not the owner.

This is actually easier than using the homemade one and the price is right
Bill wanted a couple of things that were on sale in the Home Hardware flyer so we drove into town. Josh, the owner, is such a nice man. He gave Bill a couple of great deals on things he purchased. I found a couple of bird feeders so gradually I can get rid of the old broken ones. Are there still hummingbirds around? No point in filling my new feeder if they are gone. We sat at the table, Bill doing the banking from our purchases and I started my post.

It is always interesting and exciting for something
different at the Ridge!
I meant to mention that in between working at Mitch’s and going to town, I placed an Avon order for my sister, Gayle, and I. I’m glad she ordered something as it was a reminder to do the same. If I don’t every couple of months, I could lose my representative status. With that done, I went online to Henry’s in London. I found that the Canon Powershot camera (identical to mine) was on sale for a $20 savings. Great! I ordered it for free delivery. I’m excited that Bill was so supportive. Now just waiting to see how long it will be before it comes.

We ordered 1 load to see how far it would go
Bill was outside working on setting up Gerry’s jet pump so we can get it to him at the Acreage this weekend. We’ll do ours over the next few weeks, other things take priority. We stopped at Northline Sales & Service to check on our riding mower but we need to wait for them to try something on Monday before we pick it up or give the go ahead for a repair.

Bill directed him to the spot for dumping
I wasn’t feeling too energetic this afternoon so no onions got planted today. Tomorrow morning, that is my job as I have nothing else going on. In the Bunky, I worked on the puzzle until Bill came in and said he was going to call the guy about gravel. As it turned out, Alex could bring a load of A gravel right away. Wow! Fast service, on a Friday afternoon and at 5 o’clock! We’ve never met him before but chuckled when he said he had bid on this property too. Lucky for us Gerry got it.

Nice gravel too
He was here within 15 minutes and dumped it where Bill asked. He said he couldn’t spread it for us but we didn’t expect him to. Bill is happy and spent less than he’d planned to. Tomorrow morning, guess what we’ll be doing. After I plant onions. 😊 Inside the Suite, Bill moved money around and I made a rub for the pork ribs. Madame IP was ready to cook supper tonight. I added potatoes to the pot and hope they will be done this time.

Exciting for us even if the pictures are boring
We were eating later than normal but oh my, the ribs were amazing! The potato was also done perfectly and I had the yellow beans that Mitch gave me. What a great treat they were, fresh from the garden. Guess what I’m planting next year in MY garden. Worth a try!

After supper, Bill texted Gerry and asked him to pop over with a couple of his wrenches. Taking a piece of metal pipe off the old jet pump was proving to be almost impossible.

Last dump
Then he went down and started moving gravel around. I knew he couldn’t wait for morning to start at it. I pulled his chair out from the Hangar and sat on his porch and supervised. I wasn’t prepared to work tonight.

Can't stop him but at least he is in the shade
working until Gerry arrived

From the Supervisor's chair

He works for free - well, not really - ha ha
We visited with D & G for a short bit, long enough for the guys to have a beer together, and they still couldn’t get the part separated. They left around 9 and Bill and I moved inside to watch a movie. I’d seen The Beach House before, a couple of times, but Bill hasn’t seen any more than bits and pieces.

This was an amazing meal!
And we made it ourselves!
And a light delicious custard for dessert
It was all I could do to keep my eyes open until it ended so at 11, I blindly found the stairs and the cool bed. Bill was right on my heels. We had a good day!

Good night from the Ridge
Thank you for your visit. If you wish to comment, I’d love to hear from you.
