Cool but SUNSHINE!!

The Ridge

On Sunday, June 1st we entered a new month with a smile on our faces. The sun was shining, the sky was clear blue, not a cloud in sight. I know from reading comments that some of you out west would give your eye teeth for some of those clouds and even some rain. Are any of us ever happy with our weather? If only sharing was allowed. There are changes 'afoot' here, at least.

So, my day started off by helping sort clothes, a quick wash (had my shower last night) and headed out the door with my tea at 7:10. By the time I loaded my 2 machines, 2 other customers had arrived. Regulars for Sunday. 😊 No pay yet, from Sandy, but I'm sure it will be there on Tuesday for me. I finished in an hour and a half, semi-folding the wet clothes for hanging later.

On the way in, I stopped at Ultramar for fuel. I was happy to see that the price had dropped 8¢ from yesterday. Why it had jumped in the first place last Thursday is beyond me. All games. She took $45 to fill from 1/4 tank so that was pretty good. When I left the Mat, I drove to get our bottle of water filled and then headed back towards home.

I'd responded to M's request yesterday that I would help him clean the now empty apartment. So, I stopped at his place on my way back, it was 9. I have to admit that I was very surprised that it was totally empty. M was doing the vacuuming (which I hate with his piece of sh** shop vac) and I worked in the kitchen. 

I know it is rustic but I think you'll
agree that this is a HUGE change from Friday.

The fridge, stove, microwave, cupboards and floors before moving into the bathroom. As I mentioned earlier, she was not dirty, just messy and disorganized. So, it was no big feat wiping everything out with a cleaning vinegar/water mix. I was finished, leaving him just the bedroom floor to vacuum, in an hour and a half.

Before leaving, he handed off a few things, if I wanted them. Large bottles of Zero Coke, a nice handled cutting board, a lap tray and lastly, a Gardenia plant that was dead. I said I'd try and bring it to life (hahaha) at least give it one more chance. 😊 He paid me and I scooted around the corner to home.

He needed to go into town but tomorrow was out of the question for me (I had plans!) so I agreed to take him after lunch. Beer store, hardware and Foodland. Bill wasn't home when I got there, to which I wasn't surprised. It wasn't flying weather after all but the boys would be enjoying their time anyway. I hung the clothes on the line and prayed the clouds would stay away.

I prepped my lunch and that was when I saw Mike drive in very slowly. The papa goose was leading him up the lane! Too funny but that is why I put signs up, which I did later on today. Bill was home on time to visit with Mike for a few minutes before he left. Within minutes, I left Bill and Gibbs for the run into town.

Bill was planting our lilac tree when I got home so yay to that! I hope it does well in that spot. I watered my other plants and prepared to cover them if the forecasters are right about frost overnight. No comment, I'll just be prepared. 😟 Gibbs and I hung our metal signs down the lane and at the gate, warning of turtles and geese and then filled the  birdfeeders. By then, I was ready to quit so we came inside.

He went to sleep in my chair, I started my blog and then I saw the clothes on the line. So much for the rest! Bill was down in the Hangar working on his plane and we agreed on burgers for supper. It is a chilly day, only a high of 13C/56F. We are grateful for the sunshine, it makes a world of difference!

least make an effort to clean her off!

Bill came up after 4 for a snooze and I stretched out in my chair beside him. I wasn't there to sleep but to play my online games. I missed the morning ones totall! Feels like I haven't stopped! Donna and Gerry were at the Acreage for the afternoon and popped in for a bit on their way home. Bill and I were bringing the clothes in when they arrived.

Our bacon cheeseburgers were delicious, as usual, and boy was I hungry for it! We finished off the wee bit of ice cream in cones for dessert. There is that temptation gone! Just a few dishes to clean up by hand and Bill made his lunch before setting the dishwasher to run. I can't believe toorrow is Monday already and yet each day I have had to stop and question 'what day is this?'

This was a good day. I don't often accept 'extra' offers to work on a Sunday (other than the Mat or bnb) but the bottom line is that the $60 in my pocket doesn't hurt one bit! Happy June!

The Calm Before the Wind, Spring Arrives, Friends Leave

Bill and Gibbs were up and out the door by 6:30 this morning, Monday, Mar. 20^th.  Hey, it is the first day of spring! Today, the forecast is for a high of 75F/24C which will be the best day for a while. The temperature will be dropping again and the winds will be picking up, possibly bringing some rain.

In case you’re wondering, Gibbs is still weighing each outing with his trepidation. Sometimes, he’s gung ho with no hesitation, especially in daylight hours. At night, you never know so we play it by ear. Some nights, he goes out but doesn’t piddle and manages to go from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am before having to go ‘potty’. 😊 He has a good bladder!

When we got up at 7, I hopped into the shower and then Bill and I walked over for one more goodbye to Kobos and Carol Ann. I really wanted to get a picture of them together plus I wanted to put a memento on their vehicle. Which we did after a couple more hugs. It is still sad to see them go but we’ll see them in November.

I took Gibbs for a very short walk and then went over to Ladies Poker Pool. Only 4 of us today and I lost badly or is it losing well? 😊 We had fun all the same and I was home for lunch.

Today was pancakes and they were good. Another nice switcheroo from the norm. After we ate, I walked back to the puzzle for a couple of hours. Adele and I made more progress and at 4 we parted ways.

For supper, we had meatballs, mashed potatoes and a veggie. Yum, a nice meal.

While watching our Monday night programs, and recording others, I worked on my blog. This has been a great day for the first day of spring and we’ll get back to our warm weather soon enough.

Another Accomplishing Day! Now, This is Spring! Fridge Repair?

The Ridge

Friday, Apr. 22^nd, I almost want to call it Good Friday because of the way it started out! 😊 I won’t, because that could be offensive to the real holiday. We were up by 7, after another awesome sleep. I think this being home and having no travel days on our plate is doing us good right now. Gibbs and I went for our walk and the little guy had fun walking in the ditches now before the grass gets too high. I let him off leash at the end of the lane and he raced ahead of me to the porch. 💖

for receiving our mail all winter 

Bill was out the door at 7:30 on his way back to Hanover. He was stopping at Ideal Supply again to pick up a GFI breaker. These things aren’t cheap! Holy $200+ Moly! Anyway, it is a key component in running 5 of our outlets so worth it. Pay the bill and ‘fahgetaboutit’. Then he drove to Donna and Gerry’s for another bladder full of water. We wouldn’t need all of it but over the net couple of days, we would.

It was a nice little walk this morning

I have a fashion store that I rather enjoy shopping at, especially looking for sales, but sometimes just to treat myself. It’s called MacGregor’s Fashion and I am on their email list. Well! I knew they had their store, home and beautiful property up for sale all last summer so wasn’t entirely surprised to get an email mentioning their closing sales. I thought I’d miss it but when a second one came in announcing possibly the end of April, all things 70% off, I was tickled that I would get one more peek. 😊

So, when Bill returned, I went. There isn’t a lot left, considering what they used to have, but even at 70% off, I didn’t need pants or tops enough to pay her prices. They start at $115 and it is really beautiful name brand stuff. Like Joseph Ribkoff (whom I’d never heard of before). I’m not a brand name shopper.

I did find a pair of ‘sweet’ looking shoes in my size, 2 glass hummer feeders and 2 dragonfly hooks from their ‘garage’ stuff. ♥ She gave me the shoes because they were hers.

On the way home, M had asked if I’d stop to help him send an email to an insurance company for him, with pictures so did that. What he did all winter without me, I’ll never know. He has other computer related things he’d like me to help him and his friend with but I told him not until I’m done doing our own stuff. He was good with that.

Bill and I got the bike and mower shelter up and because it was such a gorgeous sunny 58F/14C, we decided to go back to Murray’s and get the bike. Bill looked darn good riding ahead of Gibbs and I in Ptooties. ♥ I can’t wait for the warm weather to come so I can go too! We were home by 3:30 on time to wait for our fridge guy to come. The new time was 4 to 6 pm so fingers are crossed he shows.

That is a few big things taken care of today and Gibbs ran around outside helping where he could. He has been quite good at coming inside when called, as long as we are both coming in. 😊 We have my family side’s Easter dinner tomorrow at my nieces so I’ve been torn what to take. I don’t want leftovers as I have no more room in the small fridge. If it gets fixed tonight, yahoo, but too late to plan then.

Bill brought out Coolatron inside this morning so the fridge is empty and all condiments are now packed in there with a few stragglers out in the Bunky, where it is still cold enough. I clued in while making lunch that we have a lot of eggs so I cooked 16 eggs for devilled eggs. Easter = eggs, so they should be fine. I might nip into town in the morning for a dessert of some kind. Leftover dessert is just fine if I buy something we like!

We received an email advising of a delay and our techs arrived around 6:45. This gave us time to reheat our precooked burgers. You know what? They weren’t half bad either! We had double cheeseburgers so we were eating them up quicker and they were loaded. Onions, cheese, pickles, mustard and ketchup. They were pretty filling and by the time we finished, Mr. Appliance’s van was coming up the lane.

David and Juliette seemed to know what they were doing and although I sat outside with Gibbs, who behaved very well, Bill filled me in that the news isn’t the best. The ‘mother’ board is shot but it isn’t evident exactly where it’s been damaged. See for yourself.

We were quoted a price, the board will be ordered tomorrow and they pulled out by 7:20. As I said, they were good, knew their stuff and determined the issue fairly quickly. Hopefully just another week living out of a small fridge and cooler. We both know that it could have been worse so are counting our blessings. 😊

It was a calm evening and nice for Gibbs and I to be able sit outside while they were all in and out and in and out. We will be dipping to about 40F/5C overnight and another mild spring day tomorrow. Too bad there is rain in the forecast. The night was a quiet one and Gibbs is konked out on the floor under my chair. ♥ He is sure enjoying himself here with his freedom and the fresh air.

Spring Returns, For the Birds, Garden Fever

The Ridge

On Friday, Apr. 23^rd we woke to sunny skies. Even though it was only -2C/28F, we knew what the projected forecast was going to be. Bill went off to work, but because they’d be working outside, he remembered to grab his overalls from the Bunky first. They were working on a deck cover/awning for the Bunky they built last summer. Murray is a friend and likes the work Mike and the boys do. 😊

On my agenda today was a morning drive to BizyBee Auctions near Elmwood. Between Bill and I, we each won the bids for 5 items so I was going to pick them up. On the way, I stopped and dropped my cousin’s last puzzle off on their porch. No one was home but I messaged Harvey to let him know. I arrived at my destination 15 minutes after they opened and that was perfect.

The owner was quick in providing me with our goodies and then accepted the clothing and bedding that I’d taken along for another upcoming auction. It would be nice to make a bit of cash off them but we’ll see. On the way home, I followed ‘old faithful – Concession 8’ to Murray’s road and stopped in to see the guys. Mike, Billy, Bill and Murray himself were all busy working but turned things off and took a break when I walked in. I thought that was kind of nice.

I didn’t hang around long, letting them get back to work. It was a perfect day for them to be working outside, along the river. When I left there, I turned right to the bridge, just to take pictures. It is closed to traffic and I’ve always wanted to stop.

After a couple of photos, I drove home. I made myself a coffee and a breakfast wrap of bacon, ham, egg, cheese and lettuce. Yum, that hit the spot! Then it was time to get to work.

I went outside and gathered my tools for the garden. I guess I’m getting anal in my older age as after telling everyone about not caring whether the garden lines were straight, I pounded 4 stakes in the ground and wrapped binder twine (is that even a thing anymore?) from corner to corner. It felt great working in the dirt again and once I started, I had no desire to stop. I’d also taken the time to hang up a few things around the property.

Finishing up as far as I could (or wanted) to go today, I put things away and poured myself a Bailey’s on ice. With a new James Patterson book to read, I moved outside to the picnic table. No sooner had I sat down and Bill drove in the lane. 😊 I hope he didn’t think I’d been sitting all day! Ha ha. No, he knew I’d been busy after I showed him the garden. Eventually, we both moved inside.

It was 4:30 and soon after sitting and going through our purchases, Donna texted. They brought the filter for their water pump and so we popped over so Bill could install it. What can I say? The sun was nice, the beer was flowing (between the guys) and the company was better than both. Before we knew it, I noticed it was 7 o’clock! My how time flew!

We had filled our water bladder but I knew that Bill shouldn’t be driving home. Seldom does he let loose and have more than one drink so I was happy to step in and drive. I had planned on bbq pork sausages for supper but by the time we walked in the door that was abandoned and we had fries with some warmed corned beef instead.

We needed to plug into electric power to cook the fries and our tv ‘burped’ when I turned the inverter off. We’d been on solar power all day but it took a long time for Bill to get it back. Weird, it took shutting the satellite and the tv off for about 20 minutes. That’s never happened before but we’re just glad it returned to normal functions.

After dishes, we watched some tv for the evening. I felt too tired to get into a book so this was just fine for me. I worked on my blog and downloaded the day’s pictures. I had a wonderful day. Oh, a dress, an outdoor rubber mat for the Bunky, a second full RO water jug with a pump along with my garden edger were my bounty for the day. I thought you might be curious. 😊
