Summer Days are Here Again, Beautiful Sunsets, Birds!

The Ridge

On Thursday, Aug. 18^th we were all awake around the same time. Gibbs waited until 6 to wake his Daddy up. Bill took him on a leash this morning and they were back in quickly. After he lifted each foot for wiping, he hopped up on the bed with me again. Our puppy can count to four. 😊

Strange thing about fog, rain etc.
When I left home and subsequently when I left Durham

I got up around 6:30, washed and left for the Mat at 6:50. No one was there and it was in pretty good shape. Kaitlyn is going in on my off days to try and get things labelled properly for the appliance guy and as machines are getting repaired, she marks them off the list. I appreciate her attention to the details, we think this laundromat is her ‘baby’, so to speak and Sandy runs the plumbing business.

I left there and went to get our water jug filled at the Water Store. Poor Mark was loading ice bags into the outside cooler and had pulled his back out the other day. I know how painful that can be and how difficult to do any normal things. If I didn’t have to report to work at 9:30, I would have followed up on the urge to lend a hand. Bill had asked me to drive west of Durham to pay the truck repair bill from yesterday so that’s where I went next.

I was surprised when he stayed when I nipped inside for

I couldn’t believe how foggy it was as I approached the shop of Grey Bruce Fleet Services! It was really thick. Pea soup, my Dad used to say .😊 I paid the bill and drove home. Back near town, it was as clear as a bell. I didn’t have long to spend with Gibbs but we walked down the road and then I had to get into my ‘dirty work clothes’ for the shop. He happily took his peanut butter milk bone when I left.

The truck is getting further along and I finished sanding all primed areas today. M would be priming the roof before I return on Monday where it will need one more sanding before he paints. I know one owner who will be excited to get his classic pick up back again and I know one worker who can’t wait to see it all done. It will be pretty!! 😊

♪Chick-a-dee-dee-dee!♪

Back home, I worked on yesterday’s blog, dealing with a lot of pictures and then Gibbs and I relaxed together around the property until Bill drove in around 2. It was a nice surprise that he was home early again. ♥ After my two ‘boys’ rested, Bill and I took Jazz to Hanover’s Canadian Tire. Bill wanted to get something that was on sale for the last day.

On the way home, we stopped for an early supper at Jenny G’s. We each had a bacon cheeseburger and shared some fries. They make good homemade burgers. We enjoyed the ride; it was a beautiful afternoon. We washed the dishes from the day by hand and Bill went to the Hangar while I worked on my laptop.

I wrote out rules for the poker game that I want to teach the ladies at our park this winter. I’m hoping to practice it a bit before then. Then I worked on my blog. I’m off on Friday so plan to get to Hanover for more groceries. The list keeps getting bigger, as lists do, but since I’m going……

Yummy and filling

This has been a nice day and it feels good to have 3 days off now. I’ve watched so many hummingbirds today around our feeders, chickadees and finches and at supper, Bill and I both saw a Baltimore Oriole at the hummer feeder too. I guess they think our weather is fitting enough to return again. Between the birds and the sunsets, it sure is nice to see summer is sticking around.♥

Spring Returns, For the Birds, Garden Fever

The Ridge

On Friday, Apr. 23^rd we woke to sunny skies. Even though it was only -2C/28F, we knew what the projected forecast was going to be. Bill went off to work, but because they’d be working outside, he remembered to grab his overalls from the Bunky first. They were working on a deck cover/awning for the Bunky they built last summer. Murray is a friend and likes the work Mike and the boys do. 😊

On my agenda today was a morning drive to BizyBee Auctions near Elmwood. Between Bill and I, we each won the bids for 5 items so I was going to pick them up. On the way, I stopped and dropped my cousin’s last puzzle off on their porch. No one was home but I messaged Harvey to let him know. I arrived at my destination 15 minutes after they opened and that was perfect.

The owner was quick in providing me with our goodies and then accepted the clothing and bedding that I’d taken along for another upcoming auction. It would be nice to make a bit of cash off them but we’ll see. On the way home, I followed ‘old faithful – Concession 8’ to Murray’s road and stopped in to see the guys. Mike, Billy, Bill and Murray himself were all busy working but turned things off and took a break when I walked in. I thought that was kind of nice.

I didn’t hang around long, letting them get back to work. It was a perfect day for them to be working outside, along the river. When I left there, I turned right to the bridge, just to take pictures. It is closed to traffic and I’ve always wanted to stop.

After a couple of photos, I drove home. I made myself a coffee and a breakfast wrap of bacon, ham, egg, cheese and lettuce. Yum, that hit the spot! Then it was time to get to work.

I went outside and gathered my tools for the garden. I guess I’m getting anal in my older age as after telling everyone about not caring whether the garden lines were straight, I pounded 4 stakes in the ground and wrapped binder twine (is that even a thing anymore?) from corner to corner. It felt great working in the dirt again and once I started, I had no desire to stop. I’d also taken the time to hang up a few things around the property.

Finishing up as far as I could (or wanted) to go today, I put things away and poured myself a Bailey’s on ice. With a new James Patterson book to read, I moved outside to the picnic table. No sooner had I sat down and Bill drove in the lane. 😊 I hope he didn’t think I’d been sitting all day! Ha ha. No, he knew I’d been busy after I showed him the garden. Eventually, we both moved inside.

It was 4:30 and soon after sitting and going through our purchases, Donna texted. They brought the filter for their water pump and so we popped over so Bill could install it. What can I say? The sun was nice, the beer was flowing (between the guys) and the company was better than both. Before we knew it, I noticed it was 7 o’clock! My how time flew!

We had filled our water bladder but I knew that Bill shouldn’t be driving home. Seldom does he let loose and have more than one drink so I was happy to step in and drive. I had planned on bbq pork sausages for supper but by the time we walked in the door that was abandoned and we had fries with some warmed corned beef instead.

I got a few things out today, one being my bike

We needed to plug into electric power to cook the fries and our tv ‘burped’ when I turned the inverter off. We’d been on solar power all day but it took a long time for Bill to get it back. Weird, it took shutting the satellite and the tv off for about 20 minutes. That’s never happened before but we’re just glad it returned to normal functions.

After dishes, we watched some tv for the evening. I felt too tired to get into a book so this was just fine for me. I worked on my blog and downloaded the day’s pictures. I had a wonderful day. Oh, a dress, an outdoor rubber mat for the Bunky, a second full RO water jug with a pump along with my garden edger were my bounty for the day. I thought you might be curious. 😊

Peter Cottontail, Birds and Company, Oh My!

The Ridge

On Sunday, Apr. 4^th we were both up by 7:30. I’d been awake for an hour but Bill was sleeping pretty soundly so I didn’t get up until he woke up. He’d already been downstairs and turned the heaters up. We were looking forward to a lovely Easter Sunday and the weather was going to be on our side. The sky was clear and the sun was already up in the eastern sky so we were off to a good start.

A beautiful morning

I debated walking but thought I’d wait until it warmed up a bit more. It was -2C/28F. Well, the walk never did happen, at least not off the property. I managed to get my exercise in other ways. Well, what do you know? 

My bunny will last for a long time and so will the 
mini eggs
We were still eating our Christmas eggs in March.

Peter Cottontail found us up here! A chocolate bunny was waiting for us when we sat down at the table. 🐇 I had my tea and read blogs while Bill went to Durham to get water from Rob and Pat’s. When he returned, we both went outside. It was 9:30 and we didn’t come back indoors until…….um, supper time.

I raked and cleaned up a few of the gardens

Bill wanted to get started at putting our new shelter up since the winds were minimal and I went out to my own chore. I raked the grass and cleaned up the small flower gardens in our seating area aka front lawn. I asked Bill to let me know when he was ready for my help, in the meantime I stayed out of his way. 😊

I don't think I've ever seen a rabbit up here on the Ridge but I found droppings in a number of places while I raked. Hmmm. I cleaned up the piles of leaves and dead grass and started a fire in our pit to clean up some bark and sticks. That turned into an all day fire and I enjoyed keeping it burning.

Between the two of us, we mastered the shelter but that is a story for Bill to tell. He did all the hard stuff, including reading the ‘destructions’, er instructions, I mean. You know, when in doubt, read the instructions. Lordy oh Lordy, he's good at figuring all this stuff out and quite patient with the whole installation. It looks great and soon we can start moving things around as I mentioned in an earlier post. I didn’t overdo it with the raking, I know the fallout on the following day, and I know there will be many days ahead to finish the other gardens.

Donna and Gerry popped over around 3 since they were at the Acreage and we had an Easter drink together. I showed Donna some of the things I picked up at the auctions and now she has the bug. 😊 I later sent the link to her. After they left, I put our 3 lb. pre-cooked ham in Madame IP with a couple of potatoes for supper. With broccoli, corn and Pillsbury buns, it will be a great meal together. Since we can’t be with family, we make the best of the day with a quiet celebration.

While the ham was heating, Jamie arrived with his daughter, Emma and son, Aaron to pay me for March. They stayed for about 30 minutes, catching up and when they left, our supper was soon ready. For dessert, we tried a very rich treat that we’d seen on a commercial for Bailey’s. It was too much richness for me to finish mine, but it tasted quite good and Bill enjoyed it. Bailey’s blended with vanilla ice cream and whipping cream poured into a hollow chocolate egg. Woowhee! I'll nibble on mine through the coming days.

After dishes, Bill had his shower and we sat together watching a Hallmark movie. What’s happening to me? Ha ha. Well, I’m not turning into someone who ‘has’ to see them but if it means spending time with my sweetie a bit longer in the evening, I’ll watch one or two once in a while. 💕 We got too busy and never did make the phone calls I'd planed to make to our children. Spending the day outside was wonderful, the birds were entertaining and yes, even Chippy came to visit the bird feeder. 🐹

This was a wonderful Easter Sunday and the weather was absolutely gorgeous!! It got to a high temperature of 15C/60F and that sun felt so good on my face and body. No better Vitamin D to be had!
