A Bit of This and That

The Ridge

Last night, I heard Bill tell Gibbs that he didn't have to go to work today so he (Gibbs) could sleep in. Well, on Tuesday, Aug. 4th, the little bum did just that. At least until 6:30, when Daddy moved first. I could feel Gibbs stirring a bit for a few minutes before hand - waiting. 💗

A couple of buds still to open.

I, on the other hand, had to clean the Mat. I got up before 7 and just after, drove into town. No one there so that meant no distractions. I threw the cleaning rags I use into a machine with the collection in the Lost and Found and let them wash while I cleaned.

It might be a dirty old pond,
but it sure creates lovely pictures.

I was back home just after 8:30 and after a bit of discussion, Bill hopped on Jazz and went in to the hardware store for a couple of things. One being a can of white spray paint for the little table. The off-white didn't look good. I'm no good at sanding and spray painting so when I noticed it running, I quit.

Gibbs and I sat outside until Bill got back, we had lunch, a snooze and then he went over to Dot's to do a bit more of the finishing touches on the lower rooms. She popped over last night for half hour; a visit and to purchase a couple of my cards. 😃 It was nice to see her. Gibbs was thrilled. 🐶

quesadilla.

We just hung around when Bill got back from next door and I read more of my vintage book. Robin's guests are in the bnb for a week so we are both off the hook for cleaning until Friday at least. I have to admit, although the $$ is nice, days off are quite exquisite! 🤭

The grass needs cutting, I noticed when Gibbs and I sat outside this afternoon, so that is a job for tomorrow after our eye appointments. Bill took it off work as well. I wonder if the checkups will reveal much change in our scripts? 🤔

to be working though.

For supper, he grilled a pork chop for himself and a couple of smoked sausages for me. I cooked a small handful of mini potatoes and the last 2 short cobs of corn. They badly needed to be eaten. Bill finished the strawberries and cream and I had a few pieces of watermelon. It was a good supper.

hasn't cared for the frozen variety.
Until today. I let him clean out
the little cup.

After washing the pot, he went out and sprayed the little table. 😀 Back down to the Hangar, we've had a lot of discussions about 'cleanup' in our sheds. My oh my, how things collect. 

Supper was good tonight.

Donna accepted my request for taking the bags of clothes for the exchange (she has a basement) until it is held, so that helps my Bunky a lot.

I guess I need to stop picking things up on the side of the road!! This has been a lovely day. 25.55C/78F is nothing to sniff at! I made appointments for Gibbs' grooming, did I mention that? Two in Arizona and his next one here at home.

The Animal House in Quartzsite is now the only full groomer in the town so she is booking asap for her regular customers. I'm happy we're on her list for notifications. Aside from inviting them for supper (that's another story!), Gibbs is good to go. 🤣 They are a nice couple.

On Wednesday, May 20th I was up before 7 so I would be awake enough to take Bill to work. With only one vehicle now, my penance is to get him where he needs to be so I can get to where I need to be. 🤭 I have the Mat commitment this morning.

Good morning!

We left Gibbs in charge at 7:30 and I dropped him at Murray's for 8 am. From there, since I was so to Hanover, I drove in to Walmart to check on their vegetable plants. Yay! They had a few varieties of cherry tomatoes so I picked up 4 plants. That means one in each of my plots.

drawing my attention today.

I drove straight to the Mat and did my cleaning in the empty building. We have a hooked rug from my Uncle Harold in our short hallway to the bedroom and it has needed a good washing. I think I usually just shake it out real good and hang on the line to air.  So, I washed it with our bath mat while there.

Did it ever come out nice! Note to self, 'do that more often'. I hung the bath mat on the line when I got home and that was it for my day. Thank you all so much for the kind words over my Oopsie. You are all correct, it could have been so much worse and Gibbs nor I were hurt.

protection from the cold day and blackflies.

Since my puzzle was done, and it was too cool to plant (dropping to 1 or 2 overnight), I did some paper quilling. Just a couple of bookmarks. I'm feeling quite good today, just the odd cough now and then but I believe I've kicked this cold to the curb.

Uncle Harold was the bachelor
of the family and kept busy with many things.
One hobby was rug hooking.
I love this one. He had so many that after he
passed, many of us picked one out.

Bill was done early, they are drywalling so that means mud, tape, wait, sand, mud, tape, wait - something like that. But a process so in between they can't do anything but go home. I met him and Billy in Durham to pick Bill up and we headed to Harriston Ford.

Black Beauty has a recall on her backup camera so we wanted to make an appointment. With the warm then wet weather, 2 nights of rain, the grass is going nuts! So, Bill hopped on the mower and cut the grass in the fields and in my area. It was yellow with dandelions too.

We watched some afternoon tv, more Bosch, and we had tacos for supper. So messy but so yummy. We cleaned up and drove in to the new police station in town for 7 pm. The West Grey-Durham Lions Club supports the Police with various things so we were all granted a tour of their new building.

We were greeted by 2 on duty officers, I'm not sure of Nancy's position but she took half of our group on one tour from the back to front and Sgt. Ben Meyer took the rest of us on a tour from the front of the building, administration office to the back.

allowing them to expand a lot!

He was very informative, personable and interested in sharing information in answer to our questions. It is a wonderful addition to the town of Durham and such an improvement from the former station. Kudos to both of them for their time and for obliging me with a picture!

Survivor was on when we got home at 8:15 and it was the finale. That meant 2 1/2 hours so I skipped the blog (not the dishes) and we watched it together. We were a tad disappointed with the outcome but only because we had a favourite. No spoiler here in case you missed it.

It has been a great day. I've put things behind me from Ptooties damage and forgiven myself. Such a dumb thing, beating yourself up over an accident. I hope you had a nice hump day. We reached 10C/50F for a high temp, meaning Bill had a reprieve from blackflies while cutting grass!

A Bit of This and That, Lots Done

On Saturday, May 9th Bill slept in until 6:35 and that meant Gibbs waited beside me until the moment he could cuddle his daddy and get outside for his nature call. I slept well, don't recall hearing anything from the time I went to bed at 9:15 until we woke.

Good morning!
This is how Bill's day started.
To the dump, to the dump.

I do know I was dreaming though, I felt 'busy' all night. 🤣 It was a gray sky with no possibility of sun. At least it was mild. With the trailer full of branches, Bill left at 8 am to go to the dump at Bentinck. It is a place you can take brush for free during open hours.

When he returned, we loaded the trailer again together and he was off again. I had my breakfast of oatmeal around 10:00 and when Bill came back the second time, I left him to it. I had to drive to  Williamsford to clean the air bnb for the first time this year.

I was happy to be back helping Robin, and arrived at the home at 11:30. The house had had overnight guests only and she had more coming in tonight. It hasn't been too busy over the last few months according to the guest book she leaves on the entry table. I went to work and finished by 1:30.

Bill had just returned again from his third trip and that was it for the day. It pretty much cleaned up all of the cut branches, well, perhaps one more load to go. We came in and relaxed for a while. I did some quilling, got a few more cards completed before giving in to a headache.

I wasn't expecting to see any
sun today, in fact had a few rain
drops on my way home.

Bill dozed downstairs with Gibbs and I went upstairs for 45 minutes. When I got up, the headache was gone so I went back to quilling. We put on some classic tv, some Carol Burnett and then Beverly Hillbillies. Funny for a while but after about 8 episodes we'd had enough. 😉

For supper, I cooked fish and onion rings in Rosy and Bill cooked his fries in the Fry Daddy. It was a bit tricky but everything was done at the same time and quite tasty! I love my onion rings! We cleaned up the dishes and Bill went to the Hangar. 

I left the place at 1:30

While writing my blog, I watched a movie. I'm always up for new movies, this one is called Jackie & Ryan and seems worth a watch. Today, we accomplished a lot and I got my feet wet again with cleaning for Robin. 

The rain came down hard
and thunder and lightning
was heard and seen in the distance.
Still, a calm storm.

Then it stopped and
the sun came out before
supper.

We reached a decent 16.67C/62F by late afternoon and then it began raining. The earlier winds had calmed and we got our first spring storm since arriving home. 

At Walmart, I decided to buy
myself battered onion rings for
when Bill has his fries.
They were delicious.

No, we don't need the rain and are grateful that within 90 minutes the sun popped out and the rain stopped.

Gibbs went looking for a toy.
Bill tried to help him find 'the' one.
Turns out, Poppy was up in bed and
that made him happy.

Friday is Here! A Bit of This and That

 The Ridge

On Friday, Sept. 19th we were both up early, by 6:30 at least. I slept well again until 6 and then did my stretches until it was time to get moving. Bill left at  6:45 for work (Kincardine not Listowel) and I left for Durham 10 minutes later.

Another day on my own, just perfect! I washed the comforter that was left in L & F plus the work rags that I've used over the past month. There are quite a few so when they get dirty, I just drop them in a pail and grab a clean one.

Sometimes when purging, I find
things I'd forgotten about.
This wig, I've had for decades and still won't part with it.
I only wish my real hair was this thick!
I managed to purge about 20 items of clothing
so feel good about that. 
I was ruthless!

With the Mat clean, the rags dried, I bagged the comforter with the sheets I'd washed a week or so ago and dropped them at Rethreads door. Someone else may as well get use out of them. The store sells items very reasonably priced.

On the way home, I stopped at the Shell station and cashed in my Lotto Max ticket for a free one and picked up another 649 ticket. Do I feel lucky? Ha, it hasn't worked yet but one day, perhaps. Back home, Gibbs and I hung around inside the Suite.

He slept mostly, while I purged. I emptied bathroom cupboards, taking inventory of sorts and removing things we don't use. Then I moved to my bedroom closet - again. I have a lot of things to pass on to the exchange so got to work.

I felt much better when I stopped but I still have one more drawer to go through. I won't be at the exchange this year, it's booked for the day we leave. 😐 That's disappointing but I'm not the host. It was lunch time and I took a plate out to the picnic table with Gibbs.

The sun felt lovely, although it was cool indoors. Bill was expected home early today and so I went to do some quilling while I waited. It was 2 pm when he drove in, right on time. He hooked up the dump trailer and drove to Durham's dum to empty it.

My driver was in short sleeves
but I found the air cool so wore my
leather jacket, done right up to my neck.

When he returned, he changed and we hopped on Jazz for my bank appointment. My RRSP needed attention. When we returned, he and Gibbs had their snooze and I quilled some more. I want to be prepared in case someone cancels their table. 🤞

Before 6, we went back into town for our Catch the Ace draw and were pleased that our friend at Impact Tire won tonight. Not the big one, just the weekly draw. Yay Jackie! We had grilled cheese sandwiches for supper and cleaned up the mugs and frypan used.

These guys are a hoot!

I sat to write, it already seems late at 8 pm. It is getting dark so early now. Bummer. This has been a busy but a good day. No rest for the wicked, they say, so that must explain it! 😂 We reached 20C/68F this afternoon but the air felt cool on the bike for me.

Thank you for your suggestions of a chiropractor but there are other things I would rather do than go to one. Even putting up with it. I don't mean to offend in my beliefs but I don't have faith in them. I believe it to be a $$ grab since everyone I know, has to continue going - for years. I don't mean to whine for sympathy and apologize if it seems like that. Okay, enough of that!

A Bit of This and That, I Did it!

The Ridge

On Friday, July 5^th I was up out of bed at 6:30 and downstairs to join Bill soon after. He was getting ready for work, happy that he got 4 days in this week. I was ready to leave with my tea before him so pulled out of the lane at 7:10. It was going to be another warm aka hot day in the neighbourhood. We didn’t get any rain overnight, well, Bill says about 10 seconds worth around 11 pm, but the grass was quite dewy. Gibbs was pretty wet when he came back up to bed.

I did strip the duvet of its cover when I got up and replaced it with the chenille bedspread we keep under the bed. This should be all we need for a while. Fingers crossed. The Mat was empty and I’d taken my cheap little stick vacuum that I bought at a garage sale a couple of summers ago. It only works so-so and I wanted to try it on the two mats instead of sweeping them. The shop-vac they have doesn’t have a suitable brush head so I avoid the clunky thing. 😊

I spent a couple of hours with Gibbs before driving over to take M into town for his errands. It wasn’t long and I felt a ‘stitch’ in my side but up above my rib cage. I went into Foodland so I wasn’t in too much discomfort. It just felt like bloating or indigestion and after dropping M off, I came home, had a mouthful of cream and went up to the bedroom to watch a movie. Bill texted at noon that he was on his way home and by then, it had gone away. I’m not concerned, there and gone.

Gibbs and I took a chance, around 2:30 
and walked to 'check the mail'.
I love how he either follows or walks beside me now.

Yes, it started raining as we turned to walk back up. 
Of course! It didn't last though.

We had lunch together and he had a snooze before going out to cut the back field. He did the berm yesterday morning. I went into the Bunky to work on the dreaded puzzle. By 3:30, he was done and by 4, so was I. I conquered it! Yay! Another accomplishment. It was one of the toughest I’ve done. Where 3 strange shaped pieces took the place of one big one far too many times! 😊 Oh well, it was a challenge.

Tadah! Accolades, please! (just kidding)

Gibbs and I came inside just in time and the sky opened up with a light rain shower. I made a cup of tea, did a bit of banking and sat with my book until it was time to make supper. Bill barbecued sausages (which turned out to be quite small!) and he had his in a bun while I had mine on the plate. We each had a bbq’d cob of corn. It was all very good, topped off with strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!

me the idea to pick some for my new vase.

I love the bouquet I gathered as we walked back up
to the Suite. All from my gardens.
Even a purple thistle but although prickly to pick,
it adds nicely to the mix.

Well, what the heck. Why not?

He loaded the dishwasher and because the rain has stopped for at least the early part of the evening, he went to the front field to cut the last of the grass. With a forecast of a rainy day tomorrow, it is a wise move, we think. Who knows really when it will rain and by how much. I didn’t have to water my vegetables again, the patio tomatoes are the only ones showing fruit/vegetables so far but the flowering is encouraging on everything else. Actually, there are wee peppers too. 😊

He loves the outdoors and crashes (arms crossed)
once inside. He's by the door so he gets any breeze 
that is coming in through the screen.

It was a good day. Robin has asked me about cleaning on Sunday for her but as for the other job, she has postponed it until a week from today. That’s cool, with this heat, I’m quite okay with that! M called before supper to see if I was okay. Nice that he was concerned with my ‘discomfort’, as he called it. He does aggravate me sometimes but he is a good, caring friend. I hope my American friends recovered from their celebrating 😊 yesterday and everyone had a good day today. The weekend is here!

a bun tonight.
