Property Cleanup

The Ridge

On Friday, July 4th I turned lazy and stayed in bed until Bill came up with his goodbye kiss. I have to admit that it was a bit of a topsy-turvy night - due to my own reckless abandon in the sun yesterday. My back was a bit tender if I laid on it.

Good morning!
Gibbs wasn't ready to get up apparently.
He promptly fell asleep on Mom after
Daddy left.
Cute picture #1.

I did get up with Gibbs at 7 though, hate to waste a good day and I'd had my 8 hours of sleep. 😊 Bill has been taking Black Beauty all week even though he is travelling the same distance. His truck has come in handy for some wood pick ups while the work truck is in the shop.

I got my mower out at 9 and
had the lawn cut before 10 and
before the weekend.

They are working inside a home this week and beyond, after finishing the deck on Monday. I'm glad they are indoors with the heat we're getting. I'm enjoying these days as we've had a lovely breeze. However, today is pretty still and although a cooler overnight (10C/50F) we're rising again.

The apple trees over the berm garden
needed a good trim too.
So, I cut branches, we don't use these apples
anyway. Not sure what kind they are.

At 9, my tea was done and Gibbs and I went out to cut grass. I had it done within 40 minutes and then rested. Already, it was quite warm out there! When I put the mower away, I got my long-handled trimmers and cut some branches off this dying service berry tree.

The lower reachable branches, are cut back.
For the time being, I can use some for plants.

Then I went up the hill and gave the 2 apple trees on either side of the flag pole, got a shaving too. Bill has a hard enough time cutting on the mower without having to worry about poking an eye out with all those lower branches. It looks much better and safer.

The Egyptian walking onions are getting
ready to go for a walk.
See the new bulbs growing on the left?

I put stuff away. I was done 'like dinner' as the old saying goes. 😂 We sat in the shade and I cooled off until noon. The last of my cabbage patties were delicious again and I had some avocado alongside. A nice lunch! Then, I drug the 'home' gazebo out of the shed and got it set up.

After a few choice words at the beginning
"which way do these legs go?"
I had her up and we were sitting in the shade.

The weekend is to be hot and dry so some shade will be appreciated. It is more of a screen tent but I enjoy it being set up. We sat under it for an hour or two and I finished my book and got a good start on yesterday's crossword puzzle from the paper.

Both dahlias at the end of the lane
(or beginning, depending on how you are walking)
are coming along. The one that was nipped off
is never going to catch up but it is trying!

Bill was home around 4:30 and hopped in the shower before having a snooze. Tonight is Catch the Ace so we dressed for a ride and hopped on Jazz.

We had a special guest talk tonight,
brief but informative about who we
are selling tickets for this time.
The new Rockwood Terrace.
This is Karen, the Exec Director.
The bottom pix is Deider and Kat,
doing the ticket draw.

No luck tonight but that's okay. We left there at 7 and drove to Jenny G's for supper.

Driving to Jenny G's

Sadly, as we pulled in, a customer on his way out told us they were closed at 7. 😟 Disheartened, we turned back and decided on Durham's Foundry. Why places close at 7 on a Friday night is beyond me. Even the Country Corner Restaurant was shut down for the night.

Our meals were great.
Look at that impressive burger!

Supper was great though, Bill's burger was huge and messy and my quesadilla was cheesy and wonderful! I brought 1 1/2 pcs. home. They were slow at serving and coming to bring our bill but it was okay. That is what a tip is all about, it reflects how a customer feels.

A pretty sunset

We were home just before 9 and the sun was performing through the clouds.

The moon watches us as we drive
up the lane.
This was another great day, reaching 26C/80F at its peak and the breeze picked up nicely mid-afternoon. I hope you are enjoying your weather. Nothing to complain about here!

Second cute picture of the day.
He watched me and I watched him.
His thought is "where's that puppy?"
Gibbs was inside.

Thank you for popping around. Happy 4th of July to our American friends. We hope you had a great day and enjoy your long weekend!

  3. That photo of chippy is adorable!
Do you plant the new bulbs of the onions, or allow them to fall off and plant themselves? We have a few in our garden and I've never grown them before.

    1. The bulbs of the onions will drop over and replant themselves. At least that is what I've been told! My first time too! You can pick the bulbs once they are big enough too for using like a green onion, without the greens. haha

    God bless.
