Cooler, Wet, Windy, Indoor Cleanup

On Thursday, Mar. 13th the day didn't start off the same as we have gotten used to. It was cool and windy, pretty much from the get-go. We did get a bit of rain late yesterday but not much. It was in the forecast again for today, higher percentages. Bill said goodbye to his fellow pilots and club members yesterday at their club meeting so had no need to go to the field today. It was not a good morning for outside visiting anyway! I'm not whining, but the 50F/10C felt cooler unless you were dressed for it.

I know Bill puttered outside a bit and then went to fill Black Beauty as well as a spare can for travel. The price at Arco has dropped to a nice $3.29/gal, so that is great. I did my full blocking exercise routine and took Gibbs for his walk. I think that was the best part of the day. Chilly enough for a hoody but not bad at all with the early sunshine. I wanted to tackle a few jobs today inside the Suite so started at the shower.

We have a curved corner unit and the door track and base of the shower get very grimy. It required the whole 'get down on the knees, elbow grease' kind of clean. I'm making it sound worse that it was but now it is shiny clean again.

When I came downstairs and realized it was only 10 am, I tackled the pantry.  The shelves got wiped down and I even discarded a few things that were expired to the point of no return.

I still had time to go to the clubhouse to work on the puzzle for an hour and a half. 😊 I was glad it moved slower today so I could leave some for another day. Back home, Bill and I had chicken noodle soup for lunch. That hit the spot and by now, it was cool enough that Bill changed from shorts to long pants. That tells you how cool it felt. The rain arrived around 11:30 so when I did run home, it was under the cover of my hoody. The gusts were hitting 30.9 mph so we were glad the gazebo was no longer a worry.

 The before picture doesn't look much different to you than the after picture but to me, it is a big improvement. 

For the afternoon, I spent my time upstairs watching a movie. I'd seen The Choice before but enjoyed it even the second time. Gibbs shared his time between the two of us, Bill was downstairs snoozing and watching his own preference of entertainment. Before I came down to start supper, I searched for and found a recommendation from Bette. I was immediately drawn into Midsomer Murders, getting caught up in the British series. So, thank you Bette!

I ran home in the rain and wind.

Supper was a mixed up deal. there was enough of the ground beef gravy for Bill, so I cooked some wieners for me and mixed up a salad for both of us. It worked well and we were appropriately filled. 😊 After the wee bit of cleanup, we watched our Thursday night programs. 9-1-1, Matlock and Elspeth were on, one right after the other. It was a windy, cold day so neither Gibbs or I minded missing our afternoon walk. 

At least, I enjoyed the movie!

It has been a good 'indoor' day and we all need those. I managed to get some things done that I've wanted to do. We only reached a high of 59F/15C today, which is quite a change for us. Warmup is not far off though.

Cool Down, Collections, Inside Day,

The Ridge

On Friday, June 7^th (yay, Friday! On Bill’s behalf), I came downstairs a few minutes after 6:30. I was slept out and felt like I needed to get up. Bill was finishing his cereal and yet made my tea for me. He did make it in my ‘at home’ mug but that’s okay that he forgot I clean this morning. 😊 He has enough on his mind, so I poured it into my ‘to-go’ cup and we sat for a while with Gibbs.

It was about 7:20 when we gave the little guy his treat and we left for work. Ptooties has been hesitant to start over the last few days, well back as far as Wednesday, at least. Oh-oh, probably the signs of needing a new battery. For once, I was very happy to be taking Black Beauty in to town today but I made sure she started for Bill before we left the Ridge.

Seriously? Who drops this and walks over it?

I was alone at the Mat and other than clutter on the floor, the place wasn’t too dirty. With no other stops, I returned home when I finished. It’s a wet morning, but not currently raining. It must have rained overnight after all although I didn’t hear a thing. I sat with Gibbs for an hour before it was time to pick M up for his run into Durham. It’s an easy $25 for me and adds a bit of $ to the fuel pot. 😊

The rest of my day was pretty quiet. UPS drove up the lane around 2:30 with our olive oil from Costco. He is my favourite delivery driver and it was nice to see him again. M has a large collection of Elvis cards that he is interested in selling. It is quite a lot of cards, 700 with only 4 missing out of the sequence. So! I told him I would bring them home, sort them (except for the duplicates, they are in sleeves) and see if I can find out what they might be worth to a collector. That was a fun job and took up about 2 hours of my morning.

I’ll do the research another day. Gibbs and I walked to the mail box to find it empty but it was a refreshing walk for us. I needed to put a jacket on, stupid weather! We are only 14C/58F and feeling colder with the wind. Up and down seems to be the name of the game this spring just when I thought June would be an improvement over May. ☹ Oh well, it is what it is (we say that a lot, trying to convince ourselves that we're okay with things) and still manage to move on with our day.

Bill called on the way home about the battery/water place in town so I called Mark to see if he had what we needed. Yay! He has one left so Bill will be able to stop and hopefully pick it up on the way home. Thankfully, he is open until 5 tonight. 

It was around 5:15 when he pulled up the lane. For supper, we had leftover meat loaf, scalloped potatoes and a vegetable. The potatoes should not be on my plate but they are good and I hate to waste them, if Bill gets tired of eating them. That’s my excuse anyway.

The rain started around 5:30, although not heavy. It just added to the dull, damp feeling of our afternoon. Supper was later, Bill had changed the old battery for new and showered before having a snooze before we ate. This has been a quiet day, mostly, and Ptooties is raring to go for another 6 or 7 years. 😊 I hope your weather today was better than ours. We’re in this for another few days before warmth returns. My poor plants didn’t see much sun today.

A Sunny Day but Cooler Again and Countrified Rodents

On Friday, Feb. 2^nd we remember that it is Groundhog Day.  Waiting for Wiarton Willie, back home, or Punxsutawney Phil, in Pennsylvania, to forecast when spring will arrive is not anything we are concerned about. He would definitely see his shadow here today! We all know spring is 6 weeks away, no matter how you look at it. The temperatures dropped overnight though, after the rain, and it was a chilly, windy 48F/8C when we got up after 7.

Bill wasn’t flying, the winds were too strong with gusts up to 15 mph, but he did leave to go to Jim’s and work on something club related. Gibbs and I went for our walk and walking into the southeasterly wind gave me cause to rush the walk a bit.

Not too much, it is his time and I let him get as many (almost as many) sniffs in as he needs to. 😊 Every so often there is that ONE that just lures him in and I may have to tug on the leash “come on, let’s go!”.

I thought I’d try and accomplish something on the horse puzzle this morning so took my water and walked over to the clubhouse. I took the time, first, to move the 2 sheets of Bristol board to a table near the office wall. Temporary, but at least it is out of the way for the music jam tomorrow. I worked on it for a while, paid our electric bill which totally surprised us at how low it was, and then chatted with G as I stared at the pieces some more. LOL I’m disliking it, a lot.

After about an hour, I came home for my coffee and to sit with Gibbs. I’ve decided that for February, at least, I won’t be painting so have put the paint supplies back under the bed for storage. Once Bill moves his planes (!!), it will actually be a nice seating area again. 😊 Bill came home for lunch so I mixed up some chicken breast meat for sandwiches. Gibbs got the juice on his bowl of dry food. Boy, did he gobble that up! Kibble soup.

Ha! good thing we didn't wait for it! 

With Pokeno on in the clubhouse this afternoon, I decided to stay home and get my sewing machine out. Stuffy’s material is too tough for my machine and it seemed the bobbin apparatus was not working right anyway, so I put that away. Frustrated. Bill says we’ll get it serviced this summer; it has been about 10 years. So, I worked on another one of my craft projects. Things that I’ve started years ago and every so often just work away at it.

You might remember seeing the ‘corking/spooling’ thing, from the last time I got it out. I’m running out of the sheets that I use so will have to visit a thrift store soon and see if I can find something that will blend well. I know that Bill is out of bread so wanted to make him more for lunches. However, with spaghetti on the menu tonight, I veered away from that and instead, made some Garlic Knots. Yum, they might be good with the meal. ♥

I had my tea around 4, when the knots were rising and then started my blog while I waited. Bill had his snooze, with Gibbs for part of the time and then we got out for our afternoon walk.

The day has been quite nice but the winds are still a factor unless you are dressed accordingly.  Supper was absolutely perfect! I’m more into the spaghetti than Bill is but he couldn’t deny that the knots were a great addition. 😊 We cleaned up and I finished my blog before finding another good movie to watch.

Cool Start, 12 Days, Deliveries 😊

On Thursday, Dec. 14^th the normal routines ensued. Bill left for the field, the sun rose over the rv’s to our east and Gibbs and I went for our walk. I did squeeze a shower in there shortly after I got up at 7. No longer walk for me today, instead I hung around home until 9:10 when I joined the ladies for Poker Pool.

There were only 5 of us playing today, Patti, Barb, Adele, Susan and myself. We had a great morning and made some momentous shots – both on the good, bad and hilarious side. Such fun! Adele and I tied for 3^rd today and we were all done by 12 noon. Bill and Gibbs were outside when I returned so I sat with my furry little guy while Bill finished up ‘puttering’ on his planes.

I need to get better at making the bread as Bill had to indulge in my keto loaf today. I chose a cheese and ham salad wrap which was just as good. Tomorrow is bread making day. 😉 I sat with my Yarn Barrel and made up a few more worms, trying to switch the colours up. I was surprised yesterday when I opened the barrel to find the 3 toques I’d made over the summer. I had forgotten about those!

Bill and Gibbs had their snoozes and at 3 we drove to the Moon Mountain mail depot to see if my 3 parcels were ready for pick up. I knew they’d been delivered and there they were! Yay! I ordered a few (4) things for Gibbs (ssh) 3 hard chew bones and an ‘indestructible’ stuffy toy. We’ll see about that but I slipped it into his stocking. Of course, he saw me. ♥

There are no buckles, snapping only
around the belt loops. I always wear belts.

I’d ordered new underwear, and 4 of the ‘no buckle’ belts and everything arrived and looks just fine. I love the quality of all of it, China does produce some good stuff. Gibb and I went for a quick walk but I should have slipped a sweater on before I went. My bare arms were not a good idea. Over the last few days, I’ve read that Nancy and Deb D are doing a 12 days of Christmas ‘thing’. I like the idea and every year start getting 'festive' a few days before the big day.

Going through my jewelry box yesterday, as I do every December, I noticed that I have a few pieces of costume jewelry. I decided I'd 'borrow' the idea of 12 days and see how many days I can wear something different that is Christmassy. No o’dourves or fancy drinks for me, although we may imbibe occasionally. 😊 Simple and effective. Yesterday, I wore my Christmas light bulb earrings, today a Penquin brooch. I might have to repeat, repeat, repeat but oh well. 

But then it improved. 

Tonight is Bill’s night flying and I’m staying home. I’ll only go once in a while to support him in his hobby; but I get chilled too fast and don’t enjoy it. Wimp. He left at 4:40 while I was writing this and having my tea. Supper will be a beef stew and he’ll have his when he returns.

This was a good day. We reached a high of 67F/19C and the sun was very hot when you sat out of the breeze. I hope you’ve enjoyed some sunshine in your day too. Bill was home before 7 and I warmed up his supper for him.

Cooler but Pleasant Day, Company, Missed the Jam but Not the Bread!

On Saturday, Nov. 25^th we all slept in again until almost 7 o’clock. It was a clear morning again but there was a chill in the air that lasted all day. It was only 44F/6C when we got up. Today is the coolest day in the forecast for a while but we’re expecting the chilly nights. Nothing below 42F though so that’s good. Our Blue Flame heater will keep us warm, in the evenings, without using a lot of propane. 😊

turned out quite pretty.

I had my tea and when I finished that, Gibbs and I went for our walk. I had three goals today, well four, starting with my shower. With that done, Bill finished getting ready and left for the flying field. Goal two was to go through my closet and found about 6 items of clothing, 2 pair of shoes and a purse to take over for the FREE table. It’s not a big dent but it is a dent. It is hard to part with things!

Around 9:30 ish, I walked over to the clubhouse. Goal three was to finish the puzzle. I chatted with Patti, Gerald and Sheila while working away and it was around 10:30 when Sammi, our Avon rep, dropped our orders off. With the puzzle finished, I took my picture and walked back home. Bill was home when I got here so we relaxed a bit before lunch. I was in a t-shirt and shorts so came inside to warm up.

Since I hadn’t eaten yet, just a creamy tea and coffee this morning, I was ready for lunch. With keto bread I had a toasted tomato and cheese sandwich. Bill used the French bread for his and they fit the bill, easing our hunger. 😊 He went out to work on his plane and I started my last goal of the day. Make bread. It was so easy but I still followed the recipe provided ‘to the letter’. I wanted success off the get go.

It was in the middle of the bake process that Ken and Kim popped in for a visit. They were doing some errands in town and we’re always happy to see them. I forgot a picture though. Duh! Our group visits are great but we still like the one on ones when they happen. We sat in the gazebo, out of the wind, and it was quite cozy. Gibbs started out hyper but within 10 minutes, he’d settled down on my lap.

inside, this is the response I got. 

When they left, around 3:30, my bread had 10 minutes left to bake. There was a ‘first’ time Music Jam at the firepit from 2 to 4, trying to (excuse the language) DRUM up a new activity. I thought I’d pop over to give it a listen but didn’t make it. Today, there were just other priorities. My bread turned out looking wonderful! It is a small 1.5 lb. loaf and we haven’t cut into it yet but come supper time, we’ll give it a try. ♥ Yum!

I finished painting some bumblebees and spray coated them and the ladybugs before coming inside. Bill and Gibbs dozed and I started my blog before starting to prep some potatoes. Bill grilled the boneless rib eye steak along with the partially cooked potatoes and I mixed up the coleslaw. What better time or meal to taste the bread? Everything was delicious, topped off with a glass of wine each. We sure didn’t need dessert.

We loaded the dishwasher and sat together finishing our drink. Last night, I was disappointed that the Billy the Kid program didn’t work for me after all so I watched reruns of Magnum PI. I enjoy the characters so made it work until bedtime at 10:30. Tonight, I might just read. It was a wonderful day with a visit from our good friends.
