Clean Up and an Evening Out

The Ridge

On Friday, Sept. 27th, even though I had to clean the Mat, I didn’t get up until 6:45. Bill came up to say goodbye and I did some stretches before I rose. I wasn’t much worse for wear after yesterday’s brush crawling (that’s what it felt like, landing on my butt a few times!), so I was pleased about that. I made my tea, played my games and left the Ridge around 7:15.

Good morning!
Friday night's sunset turned out beautiful!
Looking like a pleasant morning here on the Ridge.

There were 3 customers in while I was there and I tossed our ‘Nancy’ chair quilts into the washer. 😊 I had a nice long chat with my favourite lady after she told me she lost her husband in April. Quite the story but it makes me all the happier for MAID and glad it is now an option to assist those who wish it in their ailing years. He was 89 and is now at peace – and so is she. She accepted my hug and wished us well on our winter journey.

My helper? Well, more like
my supervisor.

I came straight home after that and because the morning dew left everything quite wet, I sat inside with Gibbs and my book. I’m down to the last few chapters and it has been quite the eye-opener about Huntington’s Disease. I hope I never need to experience what I learned, in any way. I had enough batter leftover the other night from my keto pancakes that I had them for lunch today. They are so good.

What is it with fungi on wood?
A picture needed to be taken.

After clean up, we went down the lane with the wagon and Gibbs supervised while I gathered all the cut brush/branches from yesterday. Looking up, I see a big improvement and I have to say that Bill was quite overwhelmed when I told him what I’d done. 😊 With his arm/shoulder issue, he can’t reach overhead very far so this was a big help. He can use the chain saw on the couple that are left and we will have no more worries about those.

We sat together and enjoyed some quiet time.
He's under my chair but trying to get his butt tanned.

Gibbs and I walked for the mail after 1:30 but either she hadn’t come yet or we had nothing. Hard to tell, she is seldom late. I thought he might have got another greeting card in the mail today. Gibbs slept on the stoop while I stretched out in my gravity chair with my book. I finished it by 3 and we came in for my shower and afternoon cuppa.

No mail today.

For those interested, Gibbs’ scratching has pretty much stopped. Thank goodness. I think I saw him once so far today and it was brief. We planned a quick, easy supper, toasted tomato and cheese sandwiches, as we bought tickets to see an Elvis/Roy Orbison/Johnny Cash impersonator at the Durham Community Centre tonight!  I’m very excited.

Today's meals

We’ve seen Roy LeBlanc before, years ago at a school board/work function and loved his entertainment. An evening of good music is always a treat, especially when you know all the songs! 😊 Bill was home by 5 and after a quick nap, and our meal, we got ready for our evening out.

I knew it would be a beautiful.sunset tonight
but other than a peek out the doors at a gorgeous red sky,
no pictures unfortunately.

Well, we arrived at 6:20, doors opened at 6:30 and we found good seats facing the stage. The whole evening was a lot of fun. Roy did not disappoint, nor did Joe Passion who portrayed Jerry Lee Lewis exceptionally well. We had a great time!

A drink and a snack.
The food was a nice surprise.

The West Grey Lion’s Club offered a cash bar and a free lunch of chili, buns, beef, ham, cheese and pickles at 9 for hungry guests. We danced a bit but tapped our toes and clapped our hands a lot. What a great birthday present for both of us. We were home just before 10:30 and I went straight to bed.

Our evening entertainment.
Good night!

This was another really good day. Thank you for popping by.

Date Night in the Big City

The Ridge

On Friday, June 24th, we didn’t need to rush but were awake early enough anyway. At 6:30 we were up and getting ready for the drive to London. Gibbs, of course, was running around at our feet. “What’s going on? Me too?” We’d had our drink at home and after hooking up, Bill dumped at our station by the outhouse. It was 8:20 when we pulled out of the lane with everything locked up.

On Our Way

It was a great drive, not being in a rush, still trying to avoid all the Friday commuters. We arrived at Kirk and Kate’s farmhouse within 3 hours of leaving home. Kirk greeted us and easily got us into our spot for the night behind the storage/shop barn. Perfect! The day was a hot, sunny one so the panels were working full force providing us with power. 😊

Always traffic on the 401

Gibbs was good as long as we were moving

This party is a retirement gathering for Kirk, a co-owner of CanAm. He actually retired earlier and has been enjoying it for a few months now. Once unhooked, we left Gibbs and drove to Rock Glen Resort in Arkona.

Kirk and Kate's lovely spot

We bought our camping memberships through this venue in 2014 and since we are no longer using the ROD and AOR portion of the membership, we wanted to cancel. This would save us almost $1,000/year.

The drive to Rock Glen Resort

It wasn’t able to be taken care of today, of course, because the main office gal is off until the 1st of July. We were advised to send her an email to cancel. It wasn’t too much of a hardship for us since it was only a 40-minute drive from where we were parked. Bill stopped at CanAm on the way back and purchased the surge protector we need and will use from now on. 😊😊

The back way in and easy way out
Can you see the Suite?

The cocktails, dinner and gathering will be outside in their backyard with dancing later in their garage so it should be a good time. Smart casual is the attire and I think we can pull that off. You should know me by now, that I like to dress up when I get the opportunity. Too much casual in the other direction, shorts, jeans, and tank tops – hmm, is that ‘stupid’ casual? Ha ha.

Gibbs got out for a couple of walks and it gave us an opportunity to see who else was here to camp like us, plus to see the lovely property. We each had our showers but although Bill got dressed around 4:30, I waited until closer to 6 before I put my dress on. The tea I had, and sitting with Gibbs at my back, made me quite hot and sticky so I was glad for the choice I’d made by waiting. 😊

We are settled for the night
Good night y'all!

I mentioned not likely being able to post a blog today but I think I will post this portion early. I can fill you in on the party tomorrow! This was a great trip this morning and after sending off the email to Jane at Rock Glen, we felt we’ve taken care of a couple of things today. Gibbs will be in charge of the Suite after 6:15 and it will/should be nice and cool in here by then. Sssh, he may suspect but doesn’t realize that yet. Bill will check on him throughout the evening.

Thank you for stopping in!

Veggies are In! Not Feeling so Old Today! 😊

The Ridge

Saturday, June 4th we didn’t get up until after 7:30. I’d gone to bed last night, with Gibbs, at 9:30. The last 3 nights, I fell asleep in my chair and texted Bill (he goes to the Hangar after supper) that we were going to bed. I never used to do that so I guess the work is exhausting me. In a good way, it feels good to be tired out after a decent day's work.

One of Gibbs' short walks
This time to the east for a change

We didn’t have to be anywhere this morning but Bill had hoped to go to the flying field. It started out as a calm cool morning with full sunny skies. Before he left at 9, the winds had picked up but I was impressed when he hooked up his cargo ‘plane’ trailer and went anyway. Usually, the first time of a season is the hardest to talk yourself in to going. 😊

He pulls out with his cargo trailer and I went up
to plant my vegetables
Fingers crossed that they do well again this year

Gibbs and I went for a walk first thing and it was a short walk. I swore that I would take him home and go out on my own. I didn’t, but it sounded good! I had other things in which I would get exercised by.

My view from up on the hill
He can see me and I can see him
And he truly doesn't mind the leash tether

After my tea, I went out to the garden. With Gibbs tethered near the Bunky, I took all the required items up the hill and planted my 7 plants. They already look healthy so I hope they take root and flourish! The water spray of Miracle Gro should help.

They won't last long but here is proof
that we have no ants on our peonies 💕
They are so big and soft!

I watered my potted flowers as well and before I knew it, I was down on the corral hill pulling weeds. Well, not even pulling many of them because I was trying hard to not lose my balance with the rocks and steepness of the hillside. LOL, I did make some improvement but that is a very frustrating endeavour! When I stopped, I realized that not once did I notice my achy arms and back so continuing movement is the best medicine. 😊

So, here is what's left of my 'newly planted'
day lilies from Cathy
I don't know if it's Gibbs or Chippy
I'm sure both are equally guilty!

I don't know if it is noticeable to you
The left and right side has been weeded
to some degree

Goose the Spruce is getting tall
Healthy still with new needles but I think
this one must be approaching 'spruce tree teens'.
Look at those sprawly, gangly arms and/or legs

Bill returned at noon, after I’d stopped, and we decided on a bike ride. It wasn’t exactly warm, about 15C/60F, especially on a speeding motorcycle but the sun was warm and we had gear to wear. I put on my chaps, long sleeves, a neck warmer and full leather gloves. We both put our ride specific boots on and we were off! What a great ride. I thought I’d feel cold but it was quite pleasant.

We stopped in Holstein to see the dam

But other than a nice view of the Saugeen River
it was disappointing

We hit a few towns, Holstein (who seemed to have a town wide yard sale), Mount Forest, Harriston, Mildmay, places we seldom go to. Bill had me lost on the way home but that’s never surprising. When I just about figure where we were he would turn left instead of right, the direction I thought we’d go. It’s always a treat just sitting tight behind Bill, I seldom know where we’re headed. Part of the fun.

Top picture shows Bill's view
Bottom - aah, look who waits for me! 💖

Clifford is a decent size town and has a few
attractive features
The telephone booths are displayed along the main street
Part of their effort to bring the town 'to life' as a Public Art Project
Named "these booths are made for talking", artists have
decorated the metal structures.
Originally placed in 2020, there was a contest judged
by the People's Choice for the best 😉

It was over 2 hours when we turned onto the gravel road that takes us to Donna and Gerry’s Acreage. 😊 Funny, when they passed us, not knowing who we were until they got beside us. We stopped in while Bill had a beer with Gerry and Donna and I sat to catch up on our day. They’ll be staying out tonight but it is going down to 8C/46F so they might need their furnace.

Another cemetery, another town and
an aptly name restaurant and bar
Note the Harley Davidsons in the back
We drew their attention with our loud Yamaha as we stopped at the light
BTW: Have you ever driven to a cemetery and had your GPS say
"you have reached your final destination?"
That would be frightening!! 😂😁

Bill and I came home and he and Gibbs had a snooze. We’ve decided that after our grilled burger supper, we are going to see Top Gun, Maverick. It’s all the rage and Bill really is keen to see it. Ratings are quite good. We’re going to the drive-in in Hanover, about a 25-minute drive. We were laughing earlier that it has been about 20 years since we’ve gone to a drive-in movie and neither of us can remember what we saw!

Stopped in Durham to fuel up
Cool old car doing the same thing

Turning into well-hidden entrance to The Acreage

Donna and Gerry just unloading
when we pulled in

We’ll take blankets, hot chocolate (real partyers we are!) and probably chips and leave Gibbs at home. It will be a real date! Whether we stay to see Lost City is debatable, my eyeballs probably won’t be open by midnight. The night has calmed right down with only a titch of a barely visible breeze.

Gibbs watching us prepare supper

This has been a great day, even though our Friday night lotto tickets were duds. I would be totally shocked if we even won $10.

Before we left for the movie
I placed one of my planter pots
here
Good night!

Thank you for your visit. Tomorrow I’ll let you know how the ‘old fogies’ date went. 😉
