A Good Day

On Thursday, Mar. 14^th we all slept in until 6:30. Gibbs surprised Bill by not waking him up an earlier. 😊 Good boy! No flying today, winds were up but more than that….it was chilly! With a high temperature forecasted for today of only 61F/16C and gusty 20- 40 mph winds, we didn’t expect to be outside much. I know back home, they (we) would welcome that in March but after 75F, nah, not so much.

Well, I'm being kind. It could have been
a better morning, weatherwise!

Bill had no plans today so after taking Gibbs for a short (brr) walk, I left them alone while I went to Poker Pool. I’m happy that Patti is back to join our game after a week away and although only her, Sheila and myself, we had great fun. It took us a long time for each game but managed to get through 4 and I walked away the winner, for once! The main thing was the fun we’ve have together. ♥

After lunch, I went back to work on the puzzle and things were falling into place, literally, quite nicely. Perhaps one more day will finish it. Sheila came over to the clubhouse and joined me in conversation while she worked on her Diamond Art (?) craft. It’s a neat little project that she’s working on. We walked out together at 4 and went our separate ways. Darn wind. It didn’t get near as gusty as they said it could so we didn’t have to pop the roof down at all. 😊

I took Gibbs for a walk after my tea AND after him crawling up my tummy and staring at me. I knew what those brown eyes were saying as he looked from me to the window. Okay, okay, let’s go! It had warmed up a bit since the wind died down and our walk was a good one around the park. He did protect me from that old tractor/backhoe in the storage area. Thank heavens he was there to bark at it, keeping me safe. ♥

I’m well into this story I’m reading so sat and read for almost an hour before starting supper. One last, very thick, sirloin steak needed to be eaten so Madame IP cooked it up nicely in 20 minutes. Probably 15 would have been enough but it turned out just fine and it was big enough to share. Bill ate the last of the mashed potatoes with corn and I had the last of the squash from the fridge. The cheese bread from Coyote Fresh looked so good that we each had a slice for supper.

Supper was good.

I’ve enjoyed the day, the time spent with friends and my two boys. We’ve got a couple of cool days again before the heat comes back so we’ll find indoor things to do that will keep us busy. I hope you’ve had some good weather today.

All Good Things Except …..

On Friday, Nov. 17^th Gibbs had Bill up before 6. Oh-oh, not good. By the end of the afternoon, Bill was paying for it since he didn’t have his normal snooze. He hadn’t planned on going to the flying field anyway, with solar stuff on his mind and that is what he did for the bulk of his day. I got up around 7 and had my tea. It felt chilly in the Suite but the sky was clear and after an hour, things had warmed up considerably.

The sun and full blue sky was wonderful.

Gibbs and I went for our walk and he was a happy camper when he saw Gerald out for his morning ‘meet and greet’.  It has to be puppy love, he bee lines it over every time he sees him. ♥ Of course, Gibbs does love everyone that gives him those special pets and thinks he is most deserving of each and every one! 😊 Bill was working away when we returned and I hung around for an hour and a half to give him the wee bit of assistance I can provide.

on my walk. I'm getting too many built up.

He works away, on his own, and seldom needs me to help. I’m very proud of the things he can do on his own around our home here and on the Ridge. He brushes it off when I credit his intelligence, but I know what I know. When I was no longer needed for anything, I took myself off to the Family Dollar. We needed half and half creamer and their price is the best in town.

They also had Bill’s cereal on for a great price so I bought 2 boxes plus a couple (or three) packs of the mini chocolate bars that we like to snack on. At $1.25 each, who can blame me? 😊 We had lunch and I walked my binder of dvd’s down to Carol Ann and Kobos to borrow, meeting Sheila on the way. Actually, we kept bumping into each other today! Then I went in to see how the ladies were making out with Adele’s 2,000 pc. puzzle.

The border was done and the larger round table was filled with pieces. The puzzle is 38” on one side so our rectangle table wasn’t going to cut it. I only had an hour to work so completed the sky section with the pieces they had sorted. Patti, Sheila and I chatted about the January calendar and I walked back to our site. Elva and Jerry arrived for Happy Hour at 3 and we had a nice, 2 hour visit with them. They pull out tomorrow. It is nice to get to know them better too. ♥

I promised Bill meatloaf for supper so came inside to start it. He was exhausted from the early morning and work today so went upstairs with Gibbs at 5 for a snooze. With the meatloaf in the convection oven, I started my blog. I am so frustrated with my laptop and/or Blogger (not sure which) so as long as I get my blog written, I am half way there. Hopefully, I will be able to finish it tonight. LOL I keep getting ‘Word not responding’ or just a freeze mode for a couple of minutes if I’m trying to get on a Google app. Grrr!

Gibbs found a new lap today.

I fried up the leftover potatoes, reheated my beans and cooked some corn for Bill. That went well with the meat. It was delicious as always, if I do say so myself. I don’t fail at this meal so it is a good standby if I want to take the time. 😊 We cleaned up after supper and I sat to finish this post. Bill had a good rest so he’ll probably have a late night. This has been a great day and the evening was filled with a couple more episodes watching Billy the Kid.

By the way, to finish my title: from the time I opened Word, copied my blog post and got into Bloggerfest to paste it, 13 minutes had passed. That is 13 minutes just sitting here. Oh, I did take Gibbs out for a piddle while waiting. Yup, I need a new laptop.

Rain to Start, Sunny Sky to Finish

The Ridge

On Thursday, Aug. 10^th I woke to hear Bill in the bathroom, preparing for his day. It was 6:15 so I rolled over and rested for another 20 minutes. Bill was getting a ride from Billy today so he wasn’t leaving until after 7. I had no where to be until 10 but I joined him downstairs to say goodbye with Gibbs. Opposite to what my title says, it started out looking like it would be a sunny day so before he left, Bill unplugged us from power. I had to finish my blog and then got caught up in moving more picture folders to my Seagate hard drive, hoping that will help my laptop speed.

Who would complain about this morning start up?

No one, that's who!

By 9, that changed and clouds moved over the sky with some thunder rumbling to the north. Within 15 minutes, we had rain and it never stopped all morning. It wasn’t heavy nor driving in any particular direction, just wet. I drove over to M’s to take him into town at 10 and we both got wet running in and out of Foodland. Bill and I need to do a Costco run – soon – we need to stock up on things like coffee, toothpaste and peanut butter. Large sizes so we aren't spending more on these little local stops for certain things. 😊

Back home, the sky began to clear and it turned into a decent afternoon. Gibbs and I went for our walk, down to the church, around the circle drive and back home. He was the leader; I was the follower. It’s only fair, right? We came in for lunch and then I decided to tackle the corral gardens. I’ve been putting the big one off for so long that now the small one needs attention again! It’s the darn rain!

I had on decent shoes with a good gripping sole so Gibbs sat on the hill and supervised while to went to work. It isn’t perfect but once I got all the Queen Anne’s Lace and whatever that other tall weed is with the little yellow bulby flowers (?) pulled out by the roots, it looked a whole heck of a lot better! I was pleased. After I cleaned up the piles, oh, I think I forgot one, I was ready to stop the outside work. 😊

I left him with his coat on.

Inside, I only needed to vacuum or sweep and that didn’t take long. Gibbs and I sat outside for a while while I had a cool drink before we came inside. Bill surprised us around 4:30 when Billy brought him up the lane. They went to a cottage near Orillia which is about 2 hours from here so I thought they’d be later than that. I had just planned leftovers for supper so it didn’t matter what time it was. We decided to eat early so the evening was free.

Before starting, I had my shower as tomorrow is a whole new day with a new adventure. Bill is off and we’re going to his sister and her husband’s cottage for the weekend. It sounds intriguing and should be a whole lot of fun. Intriguing because after a 2 ½ hour drive, we hop (eek!) on their barge (eek!) and go to the island where their property is. We haven’t seen this cottage so really don’t have much of an idea what it will be like. 😊 We’re excited though to spend time with his sisters.

It was warm after 1 when we went for our walk.

Supper was fried potatoes and hamburger mixture for Bill and I had the last of my quesadilla with cauliflower. Not a great combination but it filled me and we’ve cleaned the fridge out from leftover food. The sky is a clear blue and with a bit of a breeze, it is another lovely evening.

Bill went to the Hangar, I worked on my blog (my laptop speed has improved immensely tonight!!) and started a new book. I wasn’t enjoying the David Baldacci one, too many characters to keep track of in too many scenarios. I know it would all fall together but I wasn’t enjoying it.

Another Good Day

On Thursday, Feb. 16^th Bill was up at 7 to get ready to go to the flying field. He’s busy with preparations. It was my day to sleep in a bit so it was 7:30 when I got up with Gibbs. He’d already been out with Daddy once. 😊 It was cold, 36F/2C, but I took him out for his walk around the park’s outer perimeter and we scooted back in for my tea.

I also had some hot oatmeal and then walked over for Ladies Poker Pool. Today was another great day. I tied for second place out of 5 of us and Susan and I were only 1 point off the lead. Yay, I am getting better cards, doubles and triples. 😊 Bill returned from the field and came over to support me, us while we played a few more shots.

For lunch, I had another cold plate, this time I splurged and had some of the fresh French bread too. It’s hard to resist and the pieces are small but delicious. While Bill and Gibbs dozed, I went back to the clubhouse. Susan and I finished one and she chose another that we started. These 750-piece puzzles aren’t taking long but we are enjoying them.

I was home at 4 and took Gibbs out for a walk. We met Carol Ann and Kobus as they headed across the desert with their remote-controlled cars. Gibbs got his ‘pets’ before we moved on.

I had my second tea of the day and Bill suggested going out for supper. Times Three Family Restaurant was my choice, first time this winter, and we were in and out in 90 minutes easy.

We watched Swamp People and Ghosts together before I called it a night. I have a fitness class in the morning so didn’t stay up beyond my 10 o’clock ‘curfew’. 😊 This was still a bit of a windy day but the sky was clear and we know that tomorrow is the beginning of another warming trend.

This Was a Good Day, A Couple of Hours Left

The Ridge

On Tuesday, June 14^th my first appointment for work was at 9:30 but I wanted to be up as early as possible anyway. I knew Bill would be leaving earlier today for work and wanted to say goodbye. 

It was a beautiful morning

Gibbs and I got ready for a walk and this time headed out ahead of Bill, down the lane and to Baptist Church Rd. On our way back, Bill was slowly walking our way. He meets Billy at the corner.

Gibbs does not walk so good when two of us are together, he pulls and tugs on the lead. I wanted Daddy to see how good he walked with me each time. Anyway, we left Bill at the corner and as we walked back, Gibbs kept stopping and checking. “Why wasn’t Daddy coming with us?” It was quite cute but when Billy drove up and Bill disappeared in his truck, there were no more interruptions and we walked home easily. 😊

Back home, I had my tea and Gibbs ate his breakfast after some encouragement. He took a couple of pieces by hand and then emptied his dish. What a goof! It’s like he doesn’t realize he’s hungry. We put in time together until I had to make my coffee to go and drive over to M’s for work. It wasn’t the easiest start to the shift but it turned out not to take too long to do the front of the truck’s roof. I had to stand on the metal frame at the bottom of the windshield to use the power sander.

Let’s just say that I was glad when I finished that part and could move along the side of the truck to do window and door edges. The rest of the roof was a breeze, standing on the step ladder and then in the box of the truck to finish it off. M has cleared the second bay for the Datsun and with only a couple of hours left on the 91 Chev, I can move over there soon. The time went quickly and soon I was stepping out into a very hot day. 😉 That’s why it is nice to start as early as possible in the day.

Lunch was good

I was filthy so the t-shirt went right into the dirty clothes and I hopped right into the shower. I can wear my jeans for one more day, no point in dirtying another pair. I slipped into my bathing suit and cover up again and cut up a few things for my late lunch. It fit the bill and filled me up. 

Me too!

I’d had Cheerios at 8 this morning and hoped the veggies, cheese and tuna would tie me over until supper. I sent out an email to Bill’s sisters about our July 1^st dinner here. It has become a tradition.

Boy, I was surprised when Gibbs started barking and Billy and Bill drove up around 2. 😊 He was also done for the day. ♥ I went outside with Gibbs and called in to Bill that it was a great day for a bike ride. He agreed and within 15 minutes we were heading down the lane on Jazz. What a beautiful ride! Bill took me on the route to his flying field near Hanover as I’ll be driving there myself on Saturday for their field event. He goes earlier than what I want and will join him later with Gibbs.

We stopped on the way home at Donna and Gerry’s and after a 15-minute ‘scare’ (when no one was around, door unlocked and her phone on the bench) they walked home from next door. That was not good for our hearts, trying not to think the worst but very confused about what could have happened. We visited after a laugh over the confusion and were on our way home around 5.

I hadn’t thought too deeply about what to have for supper, just a couple of ideas, but when Bill suggested a grilled cheese (+ onion for mine) sandwiches with ice cream for dessert, I was easily swayed. 😊 It was quite good and after loading the dishwasher, Bill made his lunch and went to the Hangar. He’d planned on working on his big plane but the bike ride took that option away from him. I hope he didn’t mind too much!

Today, I called Bonnie, our hair stylist, down the road and made an appointment for a trim. I hope she can replicate what Judy did for me in Quartzsite. My hair grows very slowly but it still is getting too long on my neck. She can’t take me until next week but that’s better than later!

A simple tasty supper

This was a wonderful day, plus more $$ in my pocket. We reached a lovely high temperature of 28C/84F today with hardly any breeze. Forecast is for thunderstorms overnight so I put the hammock sling away.
