Hot, Humid and Busy

The Ridge

On holiday Monday, Sept. 4th I didn’t hear a thing when Bill and Gibbs got up. I didn’t even realize that Bill wasn’t in bed when I woke up after 6:30. I saw Gibbs or rather felt him stretched out along my leg and seeing the time, rolled over for another 20 minutes or so. 😊 Even doing that, I was up and on my way to the Mat at 7:30. Bill was getting ready to go flying, it was a great calm, sunny morning for it.

An indoor (top)
and
an outdoor picture as I left
for the Mat

Only one of my regulars came in while there until I had just washed the floors, getting ready to leave. Mrs. ‘Outdoor Adventures’ from her store in town, came in and apologized for walking on my clean floor. She is also a regular and always compliments the job I do. Let me tell you, I can’t hear that often enough! I’d taken our ‘Nancy’ quilts from our recliners and once they were fresh and clean brought them home to hang.

They smell so nice after blowing
in the breeze

I was able to relax with Gibbs, but we did walk down to the apple tree and fill 2 bags of ripe ones. He stayed right close to me, in the shade while I picked. He’s so good with his collar. 😊

I hope Donna comes back for more!!
The bottom pictures are from under the
umbrella of the branches.
They don't get the sun under there.

I think Gibbs is saying that he
picked the ones in 'this' bag.
Ha! He is a big help though.

At 10:45 I left the house for Williamsford. Robin’s second set (4) of guests will be checking out by 11. She had a couple coming in this afternoon staying until Thursday. She and I have a direct line through our texting and she gives me an run down of what extra things need to be done.

I love this 'back door' drive to Williamsford
and Owen Sound.

I finally remembered to get an outside
picture of the Air bnb.

They would need clean towels so those and the bath mat went in the washer right away. It takes forever! I stripped the lower bed and remade it but brought the sheets home for Robin to wash. They wouldn’t be needed this week. It was an easier clean today, and I only had to dust mop the floors after my deeper clean yesterday.

Hibiscus #3!

After waiting for the towels to dry, including the drive, it was an hour less today. Robin will be home Wednesday night and she’ll have my pay for me on Thursday. She was happy to get a 5* review on the place from last night’s guests and passes much of that credit along to me. She’s a sweetheart.

The rest of the day was busy enough. Bill and I met on the road as he and Gibbs went for water and I was returning home. We had a sandwich for a late lunch and then when he went out to the Hangar, I stayed inside and cut up 1/3 of the apples, simmered them and put them through the colander for apple sauce. It is time consuming so even though hotter than the dickens inside (forgot to put the a/c on earlier) I turned a movie on to keep me entertained.

Relaxing in the shade.
It was a well-heated oven inside the Suite.

Of course, there has to be a Gibbs
performance picture.
I'm sure it felt great to roll around on the cool grass
but I took his 'word' for it!

With the apple sauce done and dishes from that mess cleaned up, we went outside. It was lovely in the shade and I sat and played my afternoon word games. Around 6, Bill came up and grilled burgers, of which we BOTH had them on soft D’Italiano buns. 😊 They were yummy and we had ice cream with some apple sauce for dessert. Delish! This has been a busy but wonderful day, reaching a high of 30C/86F plus humidity. No covers required tonight. I have a real day off tomorrow.

Not trying to make Nancy hungry,
but oh my, it was gooood!
Good night!

Thank you for the visit!

Down to the Wire, A Humid but Cloudy Sunday

The Ridge

On Sunday, Aug. 20th we were up by 6:30. I only had one, no two, commitments today but nothing this morning. Bill got ready and left for the flying field and I made my tea, sitting with Gibbs and playing my online Word games. When the tea was done, I had my shower and got dressed for the day. It was a mild 15C/60F but it didn’t seem that it would get to 28C/82C as forecasted. It was cloudy.

Mr. Jay says thank you for the drink.
Yesterday he bathed in the same water.
Yeuch!!

After my shower, Gibbs and I walked down to the corner. He didn’t miss, how could he?, the pretty bunny rabbit that hopped (quickly) across the lane in front of us. A darker brown than I’ve seen in the wild with the whitest puff of a tail. Gibbs wanted him, at least wanted to chase him bad. At this point, I was wishing I’d tried the harness that A.James suggested to prevent Gibbs pulling on the leash, which in turn pulls on his collar. Too late! I do have one to try, similar, but not today!

He stopped here, waiting for Gibbs to notice him.
What a tease!

Needless to say, he kind of pulled me around with his nose to the ground tracing all the steps the bunny made. Finally, I got cross and called him back firmly, to which he returned and sat by my side. He didn’t have his distraction collar on so I’m pleased with how that broke his concentration and we walked the rest of the way to the corner with no more mention of said bunny. 😊

A closer blurred look

There were lots of passersby as the locals drove to church. It was 10 to 10. Some more cordial than others in sharing the road but all of them waved.

Clouds really do make for a lovely sky

Gibbs went crazy crawling under Ptooties as if he saw something around the underbelly but after I laid down myself and banged on it a few times, no other sounds were heard. He’s a goof and maybe saw Chippy go under there once before. They never forget, do they?

He crawled this far, barking
and then kept going, sticking his nose up in
the under belly crevices.

I was finally able to convince him that 'he'
was gone and he came in for a treat.

I took the California duster to her once more yesterday afternoon and now she looks spiffy again. At least clean enough that leaning on or touching her sides will not leave my sibs with dirty clothes or hands – for the most part. Bill was home at noon so we had lunch together, just toast for me, and then when they went up for a snooze, I drove to M’s for his last run into town in Pat’s Uber. 😊 He has someone else who will fill in this week.

I think I told you about Gayle's
beautiful flowers.
These are the moveable ones!

Back at the ranch, er, Ridge, Bill went to get the water bladder full and once Jay from Impact Tire called, I nipped into town to get the wheels torqued. Took 2 minutes and they wished me a safe trip. Ptooties needed fuel so Gibbs and I stopped at the Ultramar for a fill up. The price is ridiculous @ $1.61.9 and I’m sure it is up and down in other places. It is what it is and we need it. Short hairs, you say?

Bill was cutting grass and transferring the water into our tank when we got home so I did the banking on the laptops. I think other than a few last minute things to pack, I’m ready for our big departure in the morning. Bill has at least a couple of long days at work, going to Kincardine, so Gibbs will see another big change in his routine. I was really hoping they’d be back at the cottage so Gibbs could go along but this one is not a suitable one for that. He’ll be fine, just a long day.

A filling supper for me
Pork, gravy with corn.

For supper, we had leftover pork roast, potatoes for Bill and corn on the cob for each of us. There is lots of food for Bill, it will all depend on what he feels like cooking when he gets home each night. This has been a good day and it did get hot and muggy but settled at 25C/78F for the high. High enough as there isn’t much of a breeze in the later part of the day. I was sure wrong this morning! I hope you’ve had a good day. Hmmm, I smell fresh cut grass!

He's our baby, so we do worry
if he's left alone too long. 💖
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by.

Back in the Groove, Still Hot, Still Humid

The Ridge

On Monday, Aug. 29th we are dropping quickly to the end of this month. No more sliding, it is a rapid downward drop! We woke up to rain so Gibbs ran outside at 6:15 but turned right back without having his morning piddle. Within 5 minutes, it stopped enough so Bill took him out again. They stood under the nose of the Suite while the little guy did his thing. 😊

Our day started like this

The rain didn’t last, off and on for the half hour before Bill left to take the garbage down and go to work. Another job in Durham, at a place they’ve been already this month. A much nicer customer too. I left Gibbs at home in charge of the house and went to M’s for 9:30. I got the news that I was waiting to hear about the apartment.

Lunch
I'm getting good at these! 💗

He had 4 showings over the weekend and the last lady agreed to take it. Actually, all 3 ladies wanted it but for one reason or another, they weren’t suitable. I’m happy that all of our work getting it ready has paid off. Well, come Sept. 1st, we’ll know for sure. 😊 The only thing left to do in there was trip a few of the scatter mats that were cut from the full floor carpets we laid earlier. I did that and then moved on to Mike’s truck. Sanding the primer. The box is now done and can be painted anytime.

Gibbs models his new hardware
It is big for a little guy but
he doesn't mind it too much

It was so humid and hot, even though the sun was cloud covered for most of the day. When I got home, I didn’t hear any barking so that was nice. He doesn’t always bark when I return alone so not the best test of the collar. The windows were closed except for one so I closed it and turned the a/c on. By then, the outside temp was 26C/79F and immediately she clicked on to start cooling our home. It was a wise decision.

Remember early spring when I moved
some of my mint plants from up on the berm?
They are finally showing some growth

I was covered in paint dust when I returned home so hopped in the shower first thing then I had a stir fry quesadilla for lunch. Gibbs and I sat inside while I worked on my blog from yesterday, still not finishing until later in the day, and then we went out to wander the property. He has only uttered a couple of low barks so I doubt he felt anything from those but I did notice that he is sticking close by my side without a leash as I walked up to the garden to gather tomatoes.

Gibbs loves the hammock
He just waits for me to come back

We sat in the hammock for about an hour again today and he never wandered anywhere. Interesting. We came in when I decided I wanted to make a cheesecake for supper. Our friends, Patty and Duncan, were expected on Wednesday for the night and to leave with their Airstream on Thursday. They may arrive early because of weather moving in off the lake (up north) so we may see them tomorrow. They are providing us with supper again so I will be prepared with dessert this time! 😊

I've made it with the crushed almond crust
but baking it in the oven this time

Bill was home from work shortly after 4 and I sat outside with Gibbs on his leash to judge his reaction. He barked once and quit immediately and once more with the same response. The collar is working. When we all came inside, Bill took his collar off for the evening. We’ll start again tomorrow; evenings are pretty uneventful. For supper, we had a ‘poor boys’ meal of weiners and beans. I had a couple of my grape tomatoes along with mine. 😊

Our poor boys supper.
Filling, no dessert tonight.

After clean up and his lunch made, Bill did some banking while I worked on today’s blog post. No promises!! This was a good day back to work for both of us. Before supper, I had a text from Kaitlyn, laundromat boss, and she will be coming out tomorrow afternoon to pay me for the month. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I started working for her! I hope you’ve had as good a day wherever you are!

Last year on this day
A visitor on our railing.
Haven't seen too many up here this year.
Good night

Thank you for your visit!

A Humid Day but the Laundry Dried Quickly! Gibbs takes a Dip

The Ridge

On Sunday, July 17th our day of rest started with Bill going flying and me going to town to clean and do laundry. It was warm and a much better looking morning than we thought it would be when we went to bed last night. We were expecting some early showers and later thunderstorms. 😊 It was a lovely surprise! So, because of that Bill was able to enjoy his hobby and I could bring the clothes home to dry.

An exciting part of my morning
My avocado pit sprouted!!

I was a little longer at the Mat today because I decided to empty the Lost & Found box. It was time and I don’t have the extra time through the week when I work for M. There was a garbage bag full and by the time I finished, anything salvageable was washed, dried and loaded in Ptooties. I’ll get the bag dropped off at Rethreads this week one day. I left about 5 items in there that had just appeared yesterday.

Gibbs is so different from Clemson
He loves the wind in his face/ears

The drive to the Acreage,
he got to ride in the front seat with Mom

Back home, I let Gibbs out to run while I hung things on the line. It was a pretty calm morning, Bill will be pleased about that, but it was warm/hot enough to dry them fast in the event rain arrived this afternoon. I had taken a to-go tea and by the time I finished, I was ready for a coffee. Since we picked up some coconut oil for Donna at Costco yesterday, Gibbs and I took a run over to the Acreage.

Can you see him? Venturing closer to the edge
to get a drink

When I threw his stick in, he had to have it
It is just beyond his nose

"Got it, Mom!"

Donna, Gerry and Mike were all sitting at the pond after a morning of moving gravel and stones. All in preparation for the gazebo ‘production’. 😊 Gibbs can lighten the mood of anyone no matter what kind of a day you’re having (not that anyone needed it on this glorious Sunday!) and today was no exception. He ran around, through the bush, which is sparse, and finally along the edge of the pond.

That was so much fun, that we threw it a couple more times!

He was pretty wet and dirty when he was done
but still adorable 💖

He gets braver every time

He had us laughing as usual and even more so when I threw a stick in the water and he went in after it! Goof! He was dry by the time I was ready to come home. Bill would be home for lunch and bacon and eggs were on the menu today. When I got home, it was hot and sticky so I closed things up and turned the a/c on. No point in putting up with another hot afternoon indoors, outdoors or in our ‘sheds’. 😊

Donna noticed this pretty critter on the back
of my chair

His wings are so delicate, like
fancy leaves

I started lunch around 12:30 and Bill was home, backing his cargo trailer up, at 12:45. Perfect timing! We cleaned the dishes up, the pots we do by hand and the rest went in the dishwasher. We’ll turn it on after supper. We are still enjoying that luxury! Bill had a snooze in his chair and I sat beside him and played my Wordle games. I missed them this morning and ‘almost’ excelled in the afternoon ones. EXCEPT for the 4-letter one, I blew that one with flying colours!

Probably because we didn't want his
wet, dirty self on our laps,
he jumped in to the middle section
of the chairs
Goof!

I slipped out to bring the clothes in off the line and then hung our duvet out. It wouldn't fit with the clothes. Then I went to the Bunky. I left Gibbs inside in the coolness of the Suite with Daddy, even though I knew Bill would be down to his Hangar too. It was too hot for the little guy to be outside and it wasn’t much better in the Bunky. I just felt like working on the puzzle, it’s my way of relaxing. I completed what I wanted to and now just have the sky left to do. 😊 The dark brown/black pieces gave me trouble again, (remember last winter’s border?) but I persevered before stopping.

Woohoo! What a lovely picture!
No room to frame it though
so I'll pass it on when I'm done

Now was a good time to write my blog post for the day with a cup of tea by my side. Gibbs is still sleeping, after his morning playtime at A. Donna and U. Gerry’s. For supper we’re grilling pork kebabs with leftover dressing and a bbq’d potato. I’m glad the rain held off but hope we do get some overnight, as I haven’t watered for a couple of days. Maybe tonight, as a precaution I might water the vegetables, just in case it passes us by. After supper, Bill helped me put the clean duvet back into the clean duvet cover. So much easier with four hands! 💓

Supper didn't only taste delicious
it looked great! 😂😂

This has been a really nice day for various reasons. I hope you can say the same for your Sunday.

My sprout has grown even more since
this morning! I might need a hole in the roof
soon! haha
Good night!

Thank you for the visit!
