Inside Day – We’re Used to This!

The Ridge

On Monday, May 27th I was awake when Bill’s alarm went off. He’d been sound asleep and, as usual, I feel bad when he gets woken. His sleep is often interrupted on its own so when he sleeps, I let to let sleeping Bill lie. I rolled over and dozed off until 7 when I joined him downstairs. He made my tea and we chatted until he had to leave at 7:30. What a miserable day!

Good morning!
Bright and green and wet.

It’s not cold, really, just damp and everything is very wet from overnight rain. It is as we expected, so not surprised at all. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same. I’ll need to fill bird feeders today, hmmm, I think the bucket is almost empty. Darn! I should have picked some up in Hanover. I was really lazy all morning, playing my games, reading and dozing in my recliner. At 11, I had to talk myself into the shower I’d planned for today!

Gibbs had no interest in watching Mom purge
clothes

The rain is off and on so not a wash out at all but Gibbs still doesn’t waste any time when he goes out. The sky looks pretty ominous and he doesn’t want to get rained on! After my shower, I purged a few more things from my closet and drawers as Donna’s clothing exchange is on Saturday. I hope she has a good turnout, it is a great way to switch up a wardrobe plus get clothes out and off to a donation centre after the fact. 😊

The black clouds were worse off to the north

I made a batch (7 servings) of steel cut oats for breakfasts over the coming week and that was kind of my lunch. I did have some cashews, cheese and a keto butter tart. The scales were being kind to me this morning, although neither Bill or I put much faith in them. Wow! It is 1:10 and the sun and blue sky has just appeared from the west. Thank you to whoever is sending it this way! We should be able to get for a bit after all.

It was moving quickly and all
we got were spits here and there until
supper time.

I did finish my book yesterday; The Island House was a good read. There is that box of mysteries in the Bunky, so since the rain took a break, we went out and I brought in three James Patterson books. 😊 I had Madame IP boil 3 eggs for egg salad sandwiches for Bill. That will be nice for a change and now it means to add that grocery item on my new list. Gibbs and I walked down to get the mail, just a Canadian Tire flyer, and then came in for a cup of tea.

obviously, I wasn't outside enough to
take many pictures.

I dug out my yarn to crochet something, since we’re stuck indoors. Bill was home by 5 and the rain returned about 10 minutes before he drove up the lane. At least I don’t have to get water from our pails or rain barrel to water. Often there are bonuses if you just look for them. For supper, I baked a large chicken breast to share, boiled a couple of potatoes for Bill and a vegetable for each of us.

Supper was quite tasty
Bill had some of the rhubarb crisp for dessert.

We reached a high of 18C/65F so a couple of windows brought fresh air in. It was a quiet day, no running – anywhere! I loved that. I hope you’ve had a good day and accomplished something, even if it was just relaxing. 😊

A True Inside Day, Fun Evening with Rules, Remembering

The Ridge

On Saturday, Oct. 15th I was slept out by 7:30 so slipped out of bed with instructions to Gibbs ‘curl up with Daddy and go back to sleep’. Well, he had his sucky blanket so he actually did stay put while I slipped into my lounging pj’s and crept downstairs. Bill woke up so all my ‘sneaky-ness’ proved fruitless after all. 😊

You can't feel the wind and this looks much
prettier than the day felt
A gust at 6:35 am was recorded at 34 mph

I made a tea and sat in my chair with Gibbs beside me. It was a cold looking morning, not frost-cold, just fall, windy-cold. The temperature wasn’t above 5C/40F yet and by the looks of the heavy cloud cover, it wouldn’t reach today’s forecasted high of 9C/48F. We’ll see.

These may seem like duplicate pictures...........

Bill was more energetic than I was, much more, and went out to check the propane tank. It was empty and we’ve been waiting for that so we can get it filled. Here in Ontario, not sure if it is the same across Canada, we get charged for a full tank of propane whether your tank is empty or not. In the southern states, we only get charged for the about of propane that is put into the tank. The way it should be. Because of that, we make sure we’re M T before taking it into town.

But it is just where we found ourselves
for most of the day

He also filled a couple of fuel cans while he was in Durham. Gibbs and I were still in my chair. 😊 Lazy!  I hate to admit that most of the day that’s where we were. Gibbs wanted to go out once when it was pouring rain and while on the stoop, he quickly turned back and came inside. He hasn’t drank a lot today and is holding his bladder very well. It’s 3:30 and he still hasn’t gone out since 6:30. Funny little man.

The book is getting good
with less than 100 pages to go

I read a lot of my book and although some of the strange writing practices of this author are still there, the story is interesting enough for me to want to finish it. After lunch I got up for a shower, then back to the chair. At 3, I moved and made myself a cup of tea. That was when Gibbs went up to join Bill upstairs for a snooze and a movie. While I was up, I hunted for the nice keto p.b. fudge that I made a while ago. We both enjoyed it and it lasted a long time.

Gibbs got a warmer sweater on and
curled up into a ball on my blanket

With that put together and cooling in the fridge, I sat to start my blog post. For supper, it will be chicken thighs, leftover dressing and veggies. We’ll be snacking later tonight because we’ve invited ourselves (I actually did) to Donna and Gerry’s for the evening. They have a pool table and I have a game to practice teaching! We’re picking Rob and Pat up to join us.

The fudge is cooling

I won’t feel like blogging after that so will have to fill you in about both supper and the game tomorrow. We talked to a couple of our friends this morning, Mike and Wanda, rv’ers from Guelph and Keith from Aylmer. Catching up and keeping in touch regarding their winter plans. This was a truly lazy day for this family and it was very nice!

Today, is an important day to remember. It was 2 years ago tonight, at 10 pm, that Mom closed her eyes for the last time. Bill and I were there just minutes after she drew her last breath, the way she wanted it, I'm sure of that. 💔 We think of her often, I see her beautiful face and smile every morning and evening when I open my laptop. You're in a good place, Mom, and we miss you, heart and soul. Let's look at some memories.

The Weather Changed, Laundry Done

The Ridge, Priceville, On

On Friday, Mar. 26th, Bill and I slept in late. It was 7:00 when I stirred and looked at the clock. I’m disoriented when I wake up now, trying to picture in the dark where we are. I’m happy to discover we are right where we are supposed to be! It is like when we are travelling south. Our immediate indoor surroundings never change but outside they do. I have to stop and think ‘what will I see when I look out the window?’ many times. 😊

This is what our day looked like from beginning to end
An indoor day

Bill didn’t get the call for work today, which he kind of expected, so it was another day for taking care of things around home. Unfortunately, the weather changed as they said it would, and it was much colder and had rained since the wee hours of the morning. I didn’t hear it until I woke up but Bill did. The pitter patter of the calmer rains at 7 kept us dropping off to sleep over and over.

With the wind and rain, I was in no hurry to go to clean the Mat. I sorted laundry and we had our tea and coffee plus a bite to eat before Bill carried the basket out to the car for me. He had the truck loaded with a propane tank and had errands of his own to do in town. It was uneventful at the Mat when I loaded 2 washers and then cleaned. It seemed to take me longer today, not sure why. Maybe I’m just out of practice. 😊

And the winds were strong

When I arrived home, Bill had just texted to be sure things were okay. We have our Blue Flame heater hooked up just inside the door and when the winds grew stronger, Bill set up our Infrared heater at the end of the living room. We were keeping it nice and warm and always have blankets for when the chill moves in. We find sitting at our table and laptops that the cool air comes in at our feet so we wear our warm slippers.

We had some lunch, late, since I was late getting home. Bill had a toasted cheese and peanut butter sandwich and I had one of the last bowls of my cheddar broccoli soup. I’ve enjoyed it very much and will make it again. Plus, it’s good for me, right up the paleo/keto alley! Things need to change for me (how many times have I said that?) in my diet. Now that we’re home, I can make a better effort with all ingredients close at hand.

Broccoli cheddar soup for lunch

It was almost tea time so I got a new book out to start and heated up the Keurig. This one was kind of a recommendation from Bridgette on Goodreads. I found it at the Mission Store, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Three chapters went by very quickly but I had to stop to make supper at 6. I was sitting in my chair, watching NCIS reruns and Bill was on his laptop searching for a couple of things on our list. I noticed during commercial my quail ornament in silhouette and smiled. 😊

With a blanket, a good heater, a cup of tea and a large tv
I was pretty darn happy this afternoon

For supper, I fried the last 3 homemade burgers and Bill got the Fry Daddy heated up to cook fries. He had his burger in a bun and I just had mine on the plate. They were good no matter how we ate them.

The quail reminded me of our southwestern travels

I haven’t made dessert, I guess I’ve been too busy so we just took care of dishes and settled in for the evening. Bill couldn’t find one of his movies so who knows what we’ll end up watching. I worked on my blog and then relaxed for the evening.

A combined effort for supper tonight
and it turned out pretty good

Not many pictures today at all, as I wasn’t outside other than going from the Suite to the car, to the Bunky and back again. I picked up the mail on my way back from town so didn’t even walk down the lane. It felt cold and now I’ve turned into a wimp. The rain stopped mid afternoon but the winds from the northwest did not. We were toasty warm inside – together. 😊
