Park Place RV Park
Saturday, Feb. 15th started on a good note. I didn’t have to get up at 6:30 to take Bill to the flying field. That was the original plan so I could have the truck to go around 9. Tommy stepped in and offered to pick him up….bonus! I got up at 6:15 to get my goodbye kiss and crawled back into bed with Gibbs. I was feeling quite good this morning.
Good morning!
A nice calm day for a flying event. 💘
I had my
tea with Gibbs by my side, and played my Wordle games. After getting changed
into appropriate summer-y attire, Gibbs and I went for our walk. Even that
turned out very well with only minor discomfort.
The club's president announces the day's
events.
When we
returned, it was 8:45 so I finished getting ready, made a coffee, loaded my
chair in the truck and gave Gibbs his ‘look after the house’ milkbone. He loves
those things so is always quite happy to step up to the plate. ♥ First, I stopped at the post office around the corner and dropped a
couple of cards in the mailbox. Then I carried on down Plymouth Rd. to the
field.

Because I took a lot of pictures, I'm just popping them in anywhere. I hope you enjoy them. |
The spectators were seated at the east end
Pilot stations at the west end
N'ere the two shall mix.
Well, that's not true except for parking.
It was a great morning, Bill was ‘mc’ing’ the event and he is darn good at it. He wears a headset and announces each plane as it takes off and details if he has them. There were not as many pilots this year, as last, but the spectators set a record. It was great to see! Only one crash landing, near the beginning, and the winds couldn’t be blamed for that one. Sometimes these planes have minds of their own! ☹

I know Bill was drooling over this 40% scale model of a Carbon Cub. This fellow is from Puerto Rico and flew it very well. The wing span for you plane enthusiasts is 164". |
They were worried about wind speed ruining the flying but it was quite calm, 6 - 8 mph, until about 10:30 when gusts periodically tested the pilots nerves a bit. The day was perfect with just a few light clouds hovering.
I love the sound of the gas engine planes over the electrics so captured a few on camera. I can’t seem to get my videos to play on my blog but I keep trying!
Bill began cleaning things up at 12:00 when I placed our order at the food truck. He was busy wrapping up cords, disconnecting speakers and putting generators away.

I chatted with the club's instructor, Wayne. Like most pilots, he has a great set up in the back of his pick up truck. I see 3 planes here, perfectly placed and he had one out on the table for sale. |
We had lunch from El Chap Arro’s food truck and wow it was delicious! He had the Impossible Cheeseburger combo and I had the chicken quesadilla. There were too many fries for him to eat and I couldn’t eat all of my quesadilla so I brought them home. The fries were too good to throw out. 😊
There were gas, electric, jets and sail planes flying today.
It was a great display of what the pilots do.
I helped
wrap up the caution tape that was draped around the area to cordon off viewers
from the danger zone and tipped the club’s chairs against the table.
We said our goodbyes and a few members, Bill included, agreed on the great day.
We were on our way home by 1:15. The 50/50 draw brought in a nice profit for
the club; winner taking away $448 and the club pocketing $447. Excellent!
Sadly, it wasn’t us. LOL
The food truck made out great and will
be back next February.

This '34 Chrysler drove in and caught everyone's attention after the morning flights were done. Yes, he has planes in the trailer. Sweet! |
We put
stuff away at home and my boys went up for a much-needed snooze. Well, Gibbs
probably slept the whole time we were away but cuddling with Daddy, he can
never get enough of. ♥ I went to the puzzle around 2 and
plopped pieces in until I got to the last one at 3:45. 😊 Yay! I can’t take full credit, I had occasional help.
A side angle of the clubs new flags and banner.
Don't be shy, Dennis. 😁
While in
the clubhouse, I heard Walter, our traveling neighbour leave again. Bill says
he’ll be back on Mar. 5th so we have clear view of the mountains and
sunrises for a couple of weeks. He is a great neighbour, whether absent or
present. Bill and Gibbs were outside when I walked back so I took Gibbs for his
walk. The winds really behaved this morning but they sure were gusting this
afternoon.
Thank
heavens for the beautiful sun and its warmth. I had my tea and read a couple of
chapters of my next book. Two for the Dough is just a continuation of the fun from
Bounty Hunter Stephanie Plum. 😊 For supper, Bill wasn’t too hungry so decided to have his
usual lunch, a sandwich, for his meal. I had the leftovers from lunch so heated
them up in Rosy, my air fryer and pigged out, twice in one day!
The east mountains basking in the last
taste of today's sunshine.
Bottom picture: Walter has left again.
We’ve had a perfect day. Bill is pleased with how things turned out at the field and I’m proud of how he took charge and with the help of the club members made this a wonderful Fun Fly. We reached a beautiful 71F/22C today with warmer days on the horizon.

DeleteWhat a great day for everyone. Food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was delicious!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful day! The videos work for me - I've learned that I have to publish the blog and then open it up to view them. Can't be done in preview mode.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for letting me know about the videos!
DeleteWhat a wonderful hobby for Bill - from building those planes to flying them and now helping run the club. I'm always amazed at how those planes fly.
ReplyDeleteThank you FG, he loves it, as you can tell.
DeleteI'm sure Bill aced the announcements and made the show interesting. It is such a neat hobby. Thanks for the photos and I'm glad they had a good turnout.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marlene!
DeleteNow that plane was really big. How on earth does one transport something that size? I am glad that the show was a hit and there was such a good turnout. The food looks excellent as well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I'm not sure how that pilot transported his plane. Never thought to watch him pack it up!
