Another Busy Day

The Ridge

On Saturday, July 11th I woke up at 6 when the boys got up.......that surprised me after only 6 hours sleep. For me? Unusual. However, I turned over until 6:30 when I did a few stretches and rolled out of bed. I slept well, solid and if there were dreams, I don't remember them.

Good morning!
These 4 Moonflowers were photographed
last night at midnight when we
got home.

The air coming in through our Suite's windows was nice and cool(ish) but with the heat still hanging on for a few days, we closed up and set the a/c to come on around 23C/74F. I left for the Mat at 7 and Bill closed windows and probably left around 7:30. I don't know, I wasn't here. 🤭

After cleaning and laundering our 2 small loads (hot weather, less clothes), I went to fill a water bottle. Gibbs watched me hang a few clothes on the line and then went where he had a better security position. He couldn't see me but he could monitor any suspicious entries.

They don't take long to dry in
this weather!

It's quite a nice day, just the right amount of a breeze, blue sky and a few white fluffy clouds. There wasn't a lot to do outside but I got my markers out and 'painted' my new sign. I'm not sure if I will get out with my crafts tomorrow but want to be prepared just in case.

On duty, in the shade.

I had lunch alone, knowing that when Bill isn't home by 12:30, he's either eating with the boys or he's had a big breakfast at the field with them. They spoil each other and I think it is great! They have such a great connection. At 1:30, the clothes were dry so I brought them in, folded and put mine away.

Bill pulled in about 15 minutes later and had a quick yogourt. (I was right, Dave bbq'd egg  McMuffin sandwiches for them all soon after they assembled.)Because our 'incorrect' meter on our fresh water tank was reading less than 4 gallons of water last night, he went to the Acreage for more.

It's a lovely day.
Wanted to see my sign from a distance.

Gibbs and I stayed home, seems like I've been go-go-going all morning. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe kicking my heels up last night is catching up with me! I'll definitely had a lay down before we leave this afternoon. Yup, we're helping at the Legion today for their Anniversary dinner.

I will finish the centre
before my sale tomorrow.

I know I dropped off trying to read a few pages of my book and around 3:15 got dressed in my Lion's t-shirt, shorts and waited for Bill to return. Once he was also dressed accordingly, we drove to the Legion for the requested 4 pm.

Our flowering raspberry bush
all trussed up is now flowering.

There were 11 volunteers today and by the time Bill and I arrived, food was cooked so we helped 'prepare' by filling dishes, water glasses, cutting and plating pies and whatever needed to be done before 5. There was quite the hustle in the kitchen.

I finished the last of the egg salad.

Roast beef, mashed potatoes, carrots, broccoli & cauliflower salad, bean salad and coleslaw w/rolls. 6 of us served 120 guests their meal and then they feasted on apple, pumpkin, berry and 3 varieties of cream pies for dessert. It was a great success.

Bustle in the kitchen

Then the part no one likes but is necessary. Clean up. The volunteers all got a free meal and it was delicious!

So much food was leftover,
meat, potatoes , carrots and gravy.

That's a lot of dishes and once things are washed and appropriately drip-dried, the biggest challenge was finding counter space to set things. It all worked out and my first time in such hubbub.

We left for home by 9 leaving just Roz, Brian and Terry to finish with the last of the water glasses. The 10 minute dishwash cycle was good but when you have nothing left to do but wait, put away, wait, put away, no point in 5 of us staying.

The sun was just setting as we turned
onto Baptist Church Road.

It was a rewarding experience, and I  got a wee sense of what Nancy K does often.  Gibbs was happy to see us and we were pleased to see that Mike had come out to spend the night in his trailer. We don't see him often! I was too tired to finish my blog and by 9:30, I was in bed and soon asleep.

A scruffy little boy Gibbs.
Only a few weeks old.
Good night!

Another great day for the books, busy but good. Thank you for the visit.
