Oh What a Day! Birthday Wishes

 The Ridge

It was 6:45 am on Friday, July 31st, last day of this summer month when I heard Bill talking to Gibbs. "We slept in!" I did have to clean the Mat but, as I've mentioned before, it is on my own time schedule. I did my stretches while they went out and then got washed and headed out by 7:15.

Bill didn't go flying this morning as he had an appointment with Impact Tire to get 2 new front tires on Black Beauty. Ouch! So, that was more than we expected but we know we are not steered wrong with Jay. The old ones were 3 years old and had 75,000 kms on them. Everything is more expensive.

Since plans were made for our little get together today, I had stopped at Foodland to buy extra burgers, buns, salad and watermelon. At home, I began pulling things out of the cupboard once I had a final tally of guests. 8 plates, forks, napkins etc. etc.

We didn't  need lunch since we were eating at 2 ish, but because I'd only had some yogourt earlier, I cut myself some cheddar. I love the old cheese and Bill eats the medium. He had a yogourt to tie him over. 

Our first guests arrived around 1, Donna and Gerry and Gayle and John, coming from over an hour away, arrived around 2:30. So our meal was a tad late but Bill had the burgers and sausages ready soon after.

The sun was following us around the patio and we were all squeezing into the shade as much as possible. If we'd thought enough about it, we could have put our sun shade out but.......we didn't. It all works out and we ate around the picnic table, using Ken & Kim's table as an add-on.

Everything was delicious, great job Sweetie! We shared a strawberry cream cake from Walmart to help Ken celebrate his birthday. It was all very good. After clean up, we sat in the shade around the fire pit until our guests said their goodbyes and headed home.

Ken, Kim, Bill, Gibbs and I sat out until about 6;30 and called it a night. Seems early, I know but the heat 30.55C/87F really took a toll on us. I heard that G & J got home safely and they, and Donna thanked us for the invitation. I still forgot to give Donna her birthday card!!!

Ruby Tuesday

Park Place Rv Park

On Tuesday, Dec. 16th it was 6:10 when Bill and Gibbs woke up and went out for their morning walk. I remained in bed until 7:15. I watched a Christmas movie last night and it has become one of my favourite new ones.

Red One was such fun as I dove into the fantasy world of mythology. Now that's the kind of Christmas story I like. I got a few giggles and a few warm childish goosebumps. 😊 It was 10 or later when I exchanged places with Bill and went to bed.

Another clear sky day

Today, a new day where there was nothing timely on my plate until after lunch. I had my tea with Gibbs while Bill drove to the field. I am still putting drops in his eye but it has been fine for 2 days now. We'll do it one more day. Thank you all for your concerns.

At 9, I was washed and dressed and walked down to Family Dollar on Main St. I picked up some binder pouches in order to help me organize my paper strips by colour. I had an option to buy them from my quilling teacher in Indiana but I couldn't turn down the price of $1.50 each and no shipping.

and today I actually joined things.

I walked from there to the DG General across the highway and found a couple of things in there worth bringing home with me. The walk was 2.5 miles and so refreshing. I find if I wait until 9, I feel great and truly enjoy getting the exercise.

You can see a few clouds come in.

I returned home by 10:30 and tucked away a couple of stocking stuffers before taking Gibbs for his walk. We walked the outside perimeter of the park and it was obvious that Gibbs enjoyed his walk too. Maybe he feels lighter with less fur!

Bill was home before lunch and went to fill a propane bottle. He was a little ticked though when, after filling Black Beauty for $3.19/gallon this morning, he noticed Arco dropped another .10¢ since then. Dirty pool, right? Oh well, we didn't need a full tank.

At a few minutes before 12, I walked over with my pennies to play another rousing game of Pokeno. There were 8 players today and we all won a game or two throughout the hour and a half we played. Renee and I sat until 4 at the puzzle, and I feel we accomplished a fair bit. We are enjoying it.

Back home, I finished working on my paper and getting the colours sorted. I feel good about it and just need to make up labels for each pouch.

in each one.

I made a tea and finished a couple of projects.

One I can show you, it's for Bette's birthday at the end of the month. She loves her plants so should have a spot for this. For supper, Bill had a beef pie with Caesar salad and I had mine with fried chicken hearts. I'm going to still call that a Chicken Caesar salad. 😂 It was very good for a change.

We watched NCIS and NCIS Origins after dishes and relaxed for the evening. This was a great day, 78F/23C again with clear skies. Some low lying clouds moved in by my afternoon walk with Gibbs at 5:30 so I got a few pictures.

Friends Leave, A Nice Change, Hot!

On Saturday, Nov. 23^rd we had a whole different day than usual. We were up at our normal time but I didn’t head out for my walk. Today, at the Town Park on the corner of N. Plymouth and Quail Trail is a one day event. It is like a community fair, without the rides and with the addition of 3 bands for musical entertainment. There were about 5 food vendors (from candy to burgers and corn dogs), a beer vendor and approximately 20 tents for various vendors and groups around town.

We packed a drink cooler for Bill to take, since he and his flying club had a tent set up for a static display from 10 to 5 pm. It was a chilly 41F/5C at 7 and I decided to ride to the park with Bill, the cooler, his plane, and my chair. I wanted to see where their tent would be for when I returned later. 😊 When we arrived that early, the boys had already set up the tables and canopy tent so I helped Bill unload the things and then walked home.

I waved goodbye as they pulled out of the park.

I had my cereal and tea and hung with Gibbs until we went for his walk. I’ve started a new Michael Connelly book called The Black Ice and it is one with Harry Bosch as the character. You know that means a page turner so I took it out to the gazebo to read a few beginning chapters. It was around 10:30 when Elva popped down to say goodbye to Gibbs and I and they pulled out before 11 like good rv'ers. ♥

At 11, I changed into a sleeveless tank top and capris and carrying a light short sleeve cover-up and my visor, I walked back to the park. I knew exactly where I was going! 😊 It sure looked a lot different than it did at 7:30!

a marathon, in January, I think.

The place was full! I wanted to spend as much of the day as possible with Bill and I wanted to hear the Eagles Tribute Band before I walked home. We had lunch together; typical ‘fair-type’ food, his burger was thin and overcooked and although my hot dog was good, the bun fell apart immediately. Shrug, oh well. The prices were quite good.

A lot had happened since 7:30.

I did do a few dance steps once I got close to Bill's canopy. 

We spent the next 5 hours people watching and chatting with other club members and their wives. It was nice to see Kobus and CarolAnn again, they were in our park for part of last winter and looked after Gibbs one day for us. You might remember that. Now they stay on Jim’s property for the winter. The entertainment was good and I enjoyed walking around the vendors to pick up ‘freebies’. It reminded me of the Big Tent!

When the Eagles band finally started at 3ish, I listened to a few songs and at 3:45, decided to head home to our little boy. I knew he’d be good for 5 or 6 hours, if not more, but didn’t want to leave him that long. It only took me 15 minutes to walk home, leaving the bulky stuff for Bill to bring home in B.B. Gibbs was happy to see me and we went for his walk around the park. I sat a lot this afternoon, nothing different than what I’d do anyway, but I felt tired from the heat of the sun.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the feel of it on my back, every minute! ♥ We reached 77F/25C but with hardly any breeze, it felt hotter than that. Our warm nights start tonight, only dropping to 52F/11C so that is great. For how ever long it lasts, we’re happy. Nancy, you will be so proud of me! I came home with 2 big bags of caramel (kettle) corn! Bill said one bag wasn’t enough. It was expensive but it’s once a year, right? 😊

It was packed!!

I started my blog and then sat with Gibbs until Bill got home. They had to dismantle planes, tables and the canopy before they left. It was a great day; they had a lot of interest in their hobby and I enjoyed being with them all too. Including my own pilot. ♥ For some reason, neither of us were keen on a meal at supper time so we snacked with crackers, chips and cheese. Even Gibbs got in on the action and cleaned up his supper.

My walk home was short and sweet.
It was warm though so I'm glad I carried my water.

This was a fun day. Not sure what the evening will bring in the way of tv. I have a few suggestions from my readers so may try one!

Six More to Go, Enjoying All Things

On Thursday, Mar. 9^th the day was following most routines, Bill up first and Gibbs and I crawling out around 7:15. I hopped in the shower and Bill was soon ready to head off to the flying field. There was NO wind at all this morning and it remained that way all day. Finally, it’s here. 😊 ♥

I took Gibbs for his walk and it was quite pleasant as we scooted (in his own pokey way) around the outside perimeters of the park. It’s his time so he gets many, many sniffs in before we return home. I’d had my tea earlier and a couple of spoonful’s of yogourt. That would be enough to hold me over until I needed to eat my banana. I take it with me to the clubhouse when I have a coffee from Patti’s fresh brewed pot.

and by afternoon, the clouds cleared out completely

There were 6 of us playing today from 9:30 to noon and it was great fun. I’m sad that I only have 6 more games before we leave the park – until next fall. ☹ I tied for second place today with Barb so we were both excited about that. Sheila, the newest player, is doing very well and came in third place. 

We had lunch back home, a veggie/meat/cheese plate for me, and I went over to work on the puzzle. I finished it by 2.

I'm really going to miss this fun

We’ve decided that we’ll go to Parker in the morning for a stock up on our dairy products and a few other things so first I wanted to see what Ken’s Grocery had and pick those things up at an even ‘better than Walmart’ price. It's my first time out with Black Beauty this winter and it was nice. 

I came home with a couple of bags of thighs on our list and then popped into Dollar General, also on Main Street, for a few more. We don’t eat a lot of canned goods but mushrooms and pineapple are two things I like to have on hand.

I read my book inside and then out in the gazebo while Bill did more studying. He will write about what that is all about one day. 😊 He sure impresses me with his dedication and ability to retain the information he is absorbing. For supper, I baked coated chicken thighs, Brussel sprouts and corn. We each had a piece of pie left to top it all off.

Today, we reached a high temperature of 75F/24C and will only be dropping to 57F/14C overnight. May I say yet again – Yay! It has been a nice day all around and we have many things to be grateful for.

Taking it as it Comes, Fun and Games

On Thursday, Dec. 29^th Gibbs didn’t get Bill up until 7 am so we all got to sleep in, not just me. 😊 It was still a bit dark and with heavy clouds that meant no sun yet. Well, if at all. There was more rain overnight although we didn’t hear it. Just the evidence wet gravel and the tonneau over was damp. I didn’t go out with Gibbs until 8, and even then we didn’t go far.

Bill left soon after we returned. It was a lazy feeling I had so I didn’t even go for my singular walk. I sat with Gibbs and read my book, which is quite a good mystery/detective-type story. Plus, I felt chilled and bumped the furnace on for a quick warm up while I drank my tea. Tea, which now I am enjoying again with the heavy cream, coconut oil and collagen.

And a good head start

I left for the clubhouse at 9:15 and Susan was just folding up the pool table cover. Patti couldn’t play today with extra managerial duties so there were just the 4 of us. We still had a good time and played for 2 ½ hours. Susan’s husband, John, has mentioned more than once that he’d like to see something like it for the men and today suggested a co-ed game.

They looked to me for the decision because it is ‘Pat’s game’, which is a respect I wasn’t expecting, and I said if we can work out how to include more than 6 players, I’m up for it. What about couples with each team alternating with the shooter and 7 cards dealt instead of 5? I’d have players draw names or cards to pick partners rather than have a husband and wife team play together. Some don’t have a significant other. So, we’ll see how it follows through.

Bill and I had bacon and eggs for lunch and then I went to start the puzzle at 1:30. I found this one at The Mission Store back home and loved the picture and cute metal box. No one showed up to help but I got the border done and quite a bit of the boy on the tractor. This one won’t take long, I don’t think. Back home, I had a cup of tea and sat with my boys before supper.

We had hamburger helper with mixed vegetables and it was a nice hearty meal for a cooler day. The temperature didn’t get above 63F/17C but with no sun and a bit of a breeze, it felt cooler than that. We loaded the dishwasher and settled in for the evening.

Gibbs is being a little imp this evening. Even before supper, he started with grabbing my shoes, our tea towel which hangs on the freezer bar and my slippers from the bedroom. He is doing it all on purpose, for attention, and then looks at us with the item in front of him waiting for our reaction. When we don’t respond, he grabs it and runs at us in a ‘zoomie’. How can you not laugh at that? ♥

Supper tonight

We watched a movie together and I turned more pages in my book. This was a good day. I hope wherever you are that the weather is good or at least better than it was and the snow is melting!

An Enjoyable Shopping Trip to the Port, A Nice Afternoon Walk

On Thursday, Nov. 5^th after my sweetie left for work at 6:30, I tried to go back to sleep. When my body has been in bed long enough, sleep just won’t come. I was in bed at 9:30 and likely asleep soon after closing my book at 10. I’d had enough sleep so after resting a while longer I got up at 7:30.

I was going to go for my walk, it was another warm 12C/54F but my tummy was telling me not to rush things. Change of plans. Wes was downstairs, no work today, and I puttered around making my tea, decided on supper and I came back upstairs. Susan had a hair appointment today after a long 6 or 7 months wait so he stayed home to take her. She doesn’t drive far anymore for personal reasons.

After tea, I walked the 250 steps to the post office and mailed two more registered letters. I was hoping to hand deliver them but the distance between here and there is far, it would have to be a weekend and I didn’t know when we’d get there. It feels better to get them in the mail. I touched base with the recipients, nice to have Messenger, to let them know to expect them within a week. Then, I hopped in Ptooties and took myself to Port Elgin.

I needed to pick up a very few grocery items but really wanted to take my time in Walmart and Giant Tiger for some other items. I found mostly what I wanted and a good substitute for the one thing I couldn’t locate. It was 12:15 when I left town for home. Wes and Susan had taken Abe ‘Lincoln’ out for a spin this afternoon and the house was empty when I returned. That doesn’t happen often, Susan is usually home.

It was lunchtime and I hadn’t eaten yet so made myself a cold meat, cheese, cucumber, lettuce and mayo wrap. Ooh, that was good with a creamy coffee! Upstairs, I recorded the bills online and transferred $ from our grocery account and my savings account. I bought some clothing! Tsk tsk but the prices were awesome and they will get a lot of wear. The colours are different than anything else in my closet, actually so are the styles. 😊

After cleaning up the dishes, I slipped on a light jacket, donning a poppy on the lapel, and went for a walk. The sky had clouded over and there didn’t seem to be anymore sun for the day but it was still mild. I headed out along the Saugeen, up on the high banks this time. There were 3 men down fishing but moving along further down so I don’t think they were having much luck.

I went down one side of the creek, across the bridge (one of many) and down the other, longer gravel path. It brought me out to a couple of options but I took the shorter route and sat on the bench to chat with my sister out in Montreal. We are keeping an eye on the registered mail I sent even though our hands are tied as to what time it will actually arrive. LOL It can be frustrating watching the way an envelope bounces around!

On my return down Queen Street (main street), I decided to pop into the library. Oh my! Talk about quaint! I love Durham’s new library, although the older one appealed to me more, but it is in West Grey County. My card there doesn’t work here. I wasn’t sure of the possibility of me, being a temporary resident, getting a Bruce County library card. The two girls in the library were awesome and reached ‘hero’ status for me today. 😊

When I got back home, it was 4 and our hosts were still out. I was feeling pretty good so poured myself a Forty Creek drink and came upstairs. It was a surprise to hear Bill call upstairs “Hi dear, I’m home” at 4:15. Nice treat. We are having fish and chips for supper but there is no rush. We caught up with our days and when Bill stretched out on the bed, I joined him and played games on my phone.

At 5:30, we started supper. Bill’s job is the French fries in the Fry Daddy and I fry the fish filets in the fry pan. They are quite thick ones, which is nice, almost more like loins. We enjoyed the meal and were cleaning up dishes when Wes and Susan returned home. They have been gone a good part of the day so we left them to themselves while they ate their take-out supper.

Good news of the day "I got a new library card!" Yay!

Bill had his shower and I worked on my blog post. When I was walking, I got a phone call from Mitch. He has ‘laid me off’. ☹ Well, not unexpectedly so. We are only working on one vehicle, Tommy, and there is no cash flow coming in for him to pay me so he doesn’t want me to work until he can. I think that is decent of him and hey! I don’t mind some time off in this nice weather anyway.

I enquired about searching their library for homes in the county
around the area and Ancestry.com gave me this info on Daddy
For more info about census and voting in the 60's, I need to sign up for

Hmmm, thinking about that.

Since I won’t be working on Monday, I’ll take the run over to Durham tomorrow and clean the laundromat. I’ve had a good day with some shopping, some relaxing, another great walk, a great meal and some wonderful weather.
