A Really Nice Friday

The Ridge

On Friday, June 6th it was time to sleep in! Gibbs and I said goodbye to Bill and went back to sleep. He was soooo tired! He stretched his neck across mine and promptly went into snoozeville. 💕💗 I had no desire to move him, so just lay there until he moved. I love his cuddles, he's so soft.

Good morning!
Last night's sunset peek through the trees.

We got up around 7:30 and because Bill turned the inverter on but forgot to unplug us, that was the first thing I did. 😊 How many times we each do that is crazy! We stayed indoors while I had my tea and some yogourt and played my online games.

All evening, Gibbs stayed curled up in
Daddy's chair until we went to bed,

The sky was clear, although a bit hazy from smoke, I assume. The warnings are still out. Gibbs and I were out for a while and didn't notice.

My $15 geranium.
These blossoms are almost done
but there are more to come and the leaves
are so healthy.
I love it!

Just before 10, I drove over to pick M up for his town run. On our return, I noticed Black Beauty creeping up on us. Bill carried on home while we unloaded M's purchases etc. It was nice that my sweetie was done early on a Friday. Let the weekend begin! We had lunch together and although grass cutting was discussed, we decided it could wait another couple of days.

These lights are small but should light up
the steps when the motion detector light is off.

Bill had a few more small things to do outside but first we looked at the roof of Mike's slide out. What caused the leaking, no clue, but there is damage up there that needs to be dealt with. 😕 Bummer. Bill and I installed some small solar lights on the railing of the steps and down at his Hangar. A cheap expenditure but worth seeing if they help light things up. Safety is key.

What a cool puzzle! I love it!

I started a new project after lunch. I started working on Rob's puzzle. 💖 Rob bought it a while ago to work on and never got to it, sadly, so Pat thought I would enjoy it. So sweet!

Gibbs enjoyed it too
but he got bored of it quickly.

It is a fun one and you know who is helping me find those darn pieces! Thank you, Buddy. Around 2, we got dressed for a ride and hopped on Jazz.

A lovely day for a ride, however short.

My lawnmower batteries are dying a slow death so we went into Battery Pro to buy some from Mark. Hopefully now I will be able to cut grass for a longer period of time, getting more done. It was a short ride but a beautiful day to take her out. Back home, Bill went to the Hangar, Gibbs hung outside in the shady spots and I worked on the puzzle some more.

Nothing spectacular here yet but
they are growing and they are still alive!

While I sat in my gravity chair with Gibbs,
we saw this little lady come across our patio.
That video clip was too large and not allowing me
to trim it, but don't kid yourself.
These little creatures can sure move!

When Bill got the hammock out and set about laying on it, Gibbs wasted no time hopping up with him. What a little con artist! A moving hammock poses no problem, but a stationary recliner does. LOL 💞

The hammock boys.
Gibbs is always on watch for predators. 😂

At 6, we started supper. Grilled bacon cheeseburgers and that first bite was heavenly! Actually, the whole burger was, topped off with a Giant Tiger  butter tart. Yum!

Delicious!

After my blog, I think I might watch a movie instead of the NCIS:Sydney reruns from the previous nights. As long as I can remember how to turn things on. Each change can be a challenge for me! LOL This was a great day.

When we heard the tractor, Gibbs and I
went up on the berm to see what he was doing.
Spraying his crop is fun to watch.

We reached a high of 25C/75F with mostly clear skies until just before supper. I hope you are having good weather too and getting some rain, if you need it.

                 Good night!

Thank you for stopping in,

It’s a ‘Good’ Friday with a Sad Goodbye

The Ridge

On Friday, Aug. 5th it felt wonderful that I didn’t have to get up at any particular time to go to work. 😊 I wished Bill could say the same but just one last day. I still got up around 7 so we could say goodbye before he left for work at 7:30.

Then Gibbs and I went for a nice long walk. We turned right at the corner and carried on down the hill to the second residence on the right.

New road, new smells, dontcha know?

It was a nice morning, already quite toasty and I had to remove my long sleeve shirt. There was a lot of dew, everywhere, this morning but I had a plan to cut my area of the lawn before it got too hot.

Some plants are happy up here
Geraniums never let me down

Gibbs and I perused the property before company arrived

I finished my tea inside and played my Wordle and Phrazle games. I let Gibbs out, off leash, while I got the mower out and within half hour, I had the grass looking spiffy.

It was calm so I later opened up the table umbrella
and put the awnings out
Gibbs and I sat in the shade to cool down

Not mentioning any names, but me sitting down
meant 'can we play catch?'

I’m glad I was able to get it gone so fast but even still, I was sweating up a storm! Gibbs was very good the whole time and didn’t wander farther than my visibility range allowed. 😊 He’s impressing the heck out of me. Once I cooled down a bit, I got cleaned up and chose an outfit for the afternoon Celebration of Life I was going to later. I touched base with Kim and Ken, our expected guests, and at 1:30 drove into Durham.

Patty and Duncan like their new sign
where the Airstream is parked

Ready for the Wilson's to arrive
Woops! I lost a button!

Jamie’s Dad’s memorial was being held at the Durham Cemetery so I made my way there. Early, of course, I found a place to park and seemingly started a trend for where every one else parked. It was hot and I’m glad I took my large Cancun sun hat and wore my lightest sundress. It was sure different seeing Jamie in a suit, when I hugged him I commented on how he cleaned up good. 😊 It was a beautiful yet very emotional goodbye as they laid Jim to rest. Later, at the Legion, his wife, Cheryl, came and sat with me to eat our lunch. I was no longer a party of one.

Driving into the cemetery is beautiful
So quiet, you'd think everyone was asleep 😇

Typical funeral luncheon
So much wonderful food!
I did have dessert but no picture of that!

At 4:15, I said my goodbyes and drove home to greet our company. They were all set up and relaxing under their awning. We began Happy Hour in the shade of our trees by the fire pit and Bill wasn’t too long before he was home and joined us. Nothing says H.H. has to be only an hour and we seem to push that to the max when with our friends. ♥ Finally, shortly after 7, after a lot of catch up stories (I’m sure there are more to come!), we parted ways and went ‘home’ for supper.

While we visited at Happy Hour,
Gibbs was on duty

Hello Wilsons!
It's about time you got up here again! 😂

For us, it was sloppy Joe’s on hamburger buns with a cob of corn each. That hit the spot. I knew my blog wasn’t going to get finished when I suddenly felt very tired, sitting at the computer. I guess my couple of drinks had a part to play in that! I was in bed by 10 and dropped off immediately. We’re happy to see K & K again, we’ve missed our get togethers.

The sun dropped like a red rubber ball

Pink was bouncing gently off the fluffy clouds to the southeast

The Ridge campout has begun! Yay!
Good night y'all!

This turned into a fine day and yes it does feel like holidays have begun! Thanks for popping by!

Friday Begins the Weekend, Accomplishments

The Ridge

On Friday, July 9th, we were both awake and up between 6 and 6:30. Oh, all 3 of us, I mean. I felt well rested and wanted to get my cleaning done early. Bill left as per his usual time. I fed Gibbs at 7 and left the house at 7:15. No one was present in the Mat so my job was swift and complete within the hour. I also took our set of sheets in to get them washed and out of the way. With the damp weather, I also used a dryer.

when we could finally eat,
I had a keto biscuit and clam chowder

The washer I chose did not spin well at all so I popped a text to Jamie to let him know how many things needed attention. He said he’d stop in today to try and fix things. I came straight home and the hardest thing was to NOT have my tea. We both had blood work for around the noon hour and because of the lipids that were being tested, we fasted. I wasn’t uncomfortable because I was hungry but it was sure weird killing time without having that tea. It’s a bit of an addiction, I guess.

I dozed and read in my chair and when finally, it was 11, I took Gibbs out and headed to Hanover. I don’t usually wish time to pass quickly.  I pulled in to the hospital/medical centre parking lot right behind Black Beauty. Bill arrived from work at exactly the same time as me. 😊 Kismit. I went in first and was out within 20 minutes, therefore, didn’t have to pay for parking. Bill was in and out after me just as quickly so we saved the $6 fee.

We put the plastic down and Gibbs can no longer
chew on the carpet

He had a stop to make at Stihl to get more oil and string for our trimmers and I went the back way to Donna’s to pick up my 2 planters. They are quite lovely for $5 a piece! Bill and I pulled in the driveway at home within 30 seconds of each other, too funny, and because I’d had nothing since last night at 6:30, made a tea and heated up some clam chowder. Bill was keen on beans on toast so that was his lunch. Turned out that neither of us had to fast after all but we wanted to be safe rather than sorry by having to rebook.

The sky did  begin to clear up after supper

I did dishes while the boys went up for their snooze. I also found myself dropping off in my recliner and at 2:30, we all went for a ‘car ride’. 😊 We’d promised Kate and Jeff at Grey Bruce Fleet that we’d bring our baby around so stopped there first. She and Gibbs had great fun for about 15 minutes but Jeff was too busy to disturb today. From there, we went to Bath and Biscuit’s new shop on Main St. and introduced him to that Kate. He is scheduled for a first trim, hair and nails, on Friday.

Lastly, we stopped at Home Hardware and I carried him in while Bill found the clear plastic runner for under our chairs. Between the feet on our dining chairs and our little chewy monster, the carpet has worn through and he continues to nibble at the carpet fibres. ☹ This plastic will prevent that but it may also present a new challenge for him. We’ll see, it covers the area pretty well until he finds the corner edges. Puppies!!

aren't they pretty petunias?

I started my post with my afternoon tea and then planned to settle in my chair again. I had first thought I might work on my cross-stitch but it was already 4 o’clock. There will be another day for that. Bill turned on one of his car shows so I took my book and went upstairs. I found a movie to watch until it was time to start supper.

We would have liked to go out for fish and chips but didn’t feel like driving anywhere. Instead, we cooked fish and chips right here at home. A whole lot better on the pocket book and no driving necessary. We had 3 large filets left in the freezer, not enough for two meals but almost too much for one but I fried them all up anyway.

Supper was delicious but a tad too much

I steamed some mixed veggies, the California kind, for me and had just a few fries. It was kind of too much of everything so I couldn’t clean up my plate. Sorry Mom! We agreed that we didn’t need dessert, right away, and I decided to cut into the peanut butter pie a bit later. I fed Gibbs and then he needed out for his walk around the corral. To relieve himself and for both of us to relieve some energy. We watched a movie together after dishes and I worked on my blog.

The sky looks even better now at 7 pm

The temperature has warmed up too just in time
to drop to 10C/52F overnight
Crazy weather

This was a wonderful day. We got our bloodwork done, picked up something for on the carpet under our chairs (that is driving Gibbs nuts), and got Gibbs’ first appointment for a haircut. 😊 That’s a lot for one day.

A reminder of how little this guy was when we brought him home

My oh my
Good night!

Thank you for stopping around. If you’d like to leave a comment, please feel free.

Light up my Life and Town - Late Post

Paisley, On

On Friday, Nov. 27th after Bill left, I was ready to get up by 7. I took my time, washed, got ½ dressed (meaning I slipped into my fuzzy jammy bottoms) and went down for my cup of tea. I tossed a couple of pepperettes and some cheese in a baggie and got my coffee thermos ready to go. Upstairs, I worked on finishing my blog. Gosh, I get lazy and/or tired at night and just don’t have the gumption to publish. I think the yarn did me in!

Another Norm's sign for you
It made me chuckle too

I left the house around 8:30 and had a good drive to Durham. I did a text wave to Donna as I went through in response to her text. 😊 It was mild but occasionally sprinkly. The wipers were intermittent, then off, then on again. One customer was present at the Mat doing laundry. An older lady who frequents the laundromat often and she seems like a really nice person.

Coming home from Durham, a bunch of us got caught behind this
wiggly, wobbly scrap metal load on the wagon behind
a tractor
Lordy oh Lordy, are you kidding me?

When I found one of my Do Not Use cards stuck in a washer, I turned it over to see if they’d written what the problem was. Instead it said: “Need a date?” A phone # was provided. I showed the lady and we both got a good laugh out of that as I tossed it in the garbage. Neither of us were game. Ha ha. Two other ladies and a gent came in while I was there and one lady in particular is important. A young lady who needed some assistance.

Bill's day ends before 4

I say young, she’s probably my daughter’s age. We started chatting and I came to find out that she works at Rockwood Terrace. When I told her my Mom was in there for 4 years until she passed, she asked her name. She had me repeat again that Marjorie Snelgrove was my Mom. I’m getting teary-eyed just writing this because I have never been prouder of my sweet Mama, leaving such a wonderful impression on people.

Here are some pictures of the Paisley lights
some better than others
Marty's, where we picked up supper

This house looked better than the picture shows

but I loved that they had lights in every window
simple but elegant

All of the staff know her and remember her with a smile, a laugh and a story. The more we talked, the more she remembered meeting Bill and I when we were eating supper with Mom one time. She is the dietician there and with her mask on and the distance we kept between us; I couldn’t recall her. There were so many stories, so many coincidences in regards to Mom, Rob’s Aunt Mary and on and on.

The little gingerbread couple greeted me first

It was definitely a ‘bump into’ type of meeting that was destined. Before we parted ways, Erin asked me for my phone # so we could text. She is looking for temporary accommodations somewhere, long personal story, so maybe I can keep an eye open for her too. I hope she doesn’t forget to get in touch, I really enjoyed meeting her. I was delayed because of this but had finished cleaning so was on my own time. 😊 It was 11:30 when I left to drive home.

These characterson the 4-wheeler were next
sorry for the blur

In Hanover, 40 minutes from Paisley, I stopped at the mall with Giant Tiger, Dollarama and Independent stores. I had a small grocery list and managed to find everything in G.T. and Independent. The drive home had me smiling about my laundromat experience and singing along to Elvis on XM-Sirius radio. When I returned home, I got the Christmas tree box out of the closet. Bill got it down for me last night.

Crossing the bridge to the north

We love the gingerbread lighting

Here's the stage coach lit up
as was my wish

Before he texted about being on his way, I had it up and a few decorations spread around the foyer. Not decorated yet, that will be a Sunday time passer. I sent an email off to our 6 children after Bill read it and then relayed my days events. Tonight, the town is displaying lights. I’m not sure what it is called, Tour of Lights, Festival of Lights, but at 5:30, you are welcome to tour the town. Businesses are putting their best dresses on, I guess. Yay! I was hoping to see the night time lights.

Not sure why Santa and the snowman are facing the gingerbread man
"I'm over here!" I said but they didn't turn around

Next door, the Hair Garage is pretty too with
an interesting facade

We’ve decided to order supper from Marty’s Bar & Grill across the street. Right across the street.
😊 It is a beautiful night, no wind and so I slipped into my boots, hat and coat and walked to the north of town. Just as I reached the Community Centre corner, Santa came by on his float. It’s a one-man parade! My picture is terrible of him as well as the other characters who went by on their quad but I enjoyed it all the same.

And the little town display in the window was beautiful and moving
parts entertained young and old alike

It was too early when I came back to pick up our supper so let myself in the house. It is a dark corner getting into the garage door but I’m sure they didn’t know I was out and about. I should have turned a light on myself when I exited. Bill had a snooze while I was out so we were both happy and ready to eat at 6:30. Mine was a chicken quesadilla and Bill ordered a classic burger with fries.

A yummy supper, which we'll do again
There were a lot of choices on the menu

Bill's burger and fries

As we ate, we both expressed how good the meal was. I had to wait about 5 minutes which was great because it meant it was hot ‘off the grill’. We will definitely do this again and my compliments to the chef and the establishment. We only had a few dishes since we ate right out of the Styrofoam containers. Why not, eh? I had one piece of quesadilla left over for a lunch one day. It was yummy!

More businesses on display

The parade - again, I almost missed him
Hi Santa!!
Only one float 😁

The Christmas Bazaar display
Simple cardboard but it's very creative

The Museum

Upstairs, I hopped in the shower and Bill stretched out on the bed to finish his book. At 7:30, I went across to watch Jeopardy with Wes and Susan. Got a few answers correctly, as did they, so I guess we’re all pretty smart. 😊 Then I returned to our room and worked on my blog post. I’m feeling mighty tired so it will be delayed.

In the Pharmacy window, this adorable
replica of Mrs. Claus baking cookies and Santa reading the paper

This was a good day with some variation. You’ll see our little tree when it is finished so I hope it is worth it!

And my favourites of the night are the ones of the Mill
at the dam
This abandoned building had Christmas lights in every window

Spooky but wonderful!

And even though this one isn't crystal clear, I believe it belongs on a
decorative plate. Don't you?
Good night - (stay tune for Saturday's posting)

Thank you for popping by!
