Payday, A Changed Pooch, Lovely Afternoon!

The Ridge

On Tuesday, June 2nd I was up by 6:30 (ish) and was able to say goodbye to Bill before he left. I got washed and dressed (good start, eh?) made my tea, had some yogourt and headed out the door at 7. One customer had their laundry in a machine and Trudy came in within 10 minutes.

Good morning!
This was last night's smoky sun.

This morning, on my way to Durham,
it was just a pink.

We hit it off pretty good upon our second meeting last week and now it is just a very friendly conversation for the time we're there. πŸ˜€ She was the first to indicate that she might be interested in winter cleaning if the offer was open by Sandy. We'll see how it plays out, all I can do is hope he is still the owner when I leave AND when I return. Doubt it, though. When I left the Mat, I stopped at the bank and deposited my pay from Sandy.

Time for a cut, right?
We go through quite the antics while
I try and take care of business.
Look at those devilish eyes! 😍

Back home, Gibbs and I went out to water my vegetables and new flowers. I also found suitable locations to hang them and now have decided I need a couple more. LOL I'm happy with my choices but would have loved a geranium or two in bright red. The offerings at Canadian Tire did not look healthy or cared for.

I don't need matchy matchy,
as they are usually so far apart.
I just want pretty and colourful.
Speaking of which, see Mr. Oriole on the
orange feeder>

Gibbs sat inside and I brushed him in preparation for his appointment. There are a few knots in his hair, lower belly, and we managed (in fits and snarls) to get most of them out. πŸ˜‰ We left at 10:45 arriving in town early enough to walk and piddle before we entered Bath and Biscuit. He must remember what goes on here and never hesitates to go see Kate. That's a good sign!

It gave me the opportunity to get the grass
cut while waiting for him to be done.

When I got back to the Ridge, I got my mower out and cut the areas that Bill couldn't easily get to on the rider. I sure love the look up here when it is all neatly manicured. Well, as neat as we can get it without killing ourselves! I could hear Dot on her rider next door so she was taking care of their property too.

And here he is,
the star of the day.
Boy, not only does he look good,
he smells wonderful!

I was in quite a bit of pain again this morning so wasn't moving too quickly without a silent grumble and the occasional 'ouch' when I moved wrong. However, I have discovered that if I push through it all, and do what needs to be done, that it actually helps. My alarm went off at 12:45 to return to town and get our little guy so off I went. It is strange without him here. πŸ˜’

Lunch time!
The sauerkraut was delish!

He was ready and just as handsome as ever. I don't have a clue how she does such a good job on him but we gratefully hand over the fee for his groom. Plus, it is a 2 hour spa time for him. πŸ’— He whined most of the way into town but coming home he didn't make a sound until we pulled in the lane. What a little goof.

He ran around like a little fool and rolled in the
grass a few times.
Then we rested in my chair.
Feels like I've been waiting to do this
forever!

It was 1:30 so I made myself a cold plate for lunch and it was quite filling. Bill thought he would be late today, trying to finish a job, so supper would be late too. Gibbs and I went outside and sat in my gravity recliner and enjoyed the sunshine. No flies!! Wow! I did wipe some apple cider vinegar/sea salt blend on my face, neck and arms earlier so maybe that worked better than I thought.

Moooo!

Gibbs was still hot and wanted to be inside so I stretched out and probably dozed out there. It felt wonderful! The heat has arrived. It is actually a perfect day with a forecast high of 27C/81F even though the humidex makes it hotter than that. It is quite windy so the breeze is welcome anytime we rise above 25C/75F. I was expecting a parcel so Gibbs and I walked down the lane and it was in the mailbox. πŸ˜€

I don't usually put Gibbs on the leash
to go get mail but I didn't know when
the delivery would come.
Plus, didn't know it would fit in the mailbox.
I took him off on the way back
and did he ever go!

Bill was home earlier than expected, as there were snags preventing them from finishing the job after all. There's always tomorrow. I had only planned toasted bacon and tomato sandwiches for supper and he was quite fine with that. He dozed, so did Gibbs, and we ate at 6. We didn't have the bacon since there was none thawed and we were impatient. They tasted just fine without.

Simple but filling supper.
Bill has two sandwiches in case
you're wondering if he gets enough to eat!
We had strawberries for dessert.

I worked on my blog, Bill made his lunch and Gibbs went up to bed. Whether he's humping the pillows as a new 'man', who knows? It's a ritual that we don't question. πŸ˜‚ This has been a really nice day. I got the lawn cut, plants watered and hung and Gibbs has been taken care of too. Now that the nice weather is arriving, he'll feel much better and so will we.

I needed one more picture so this is
June 3, 2022 and it looks like he
just got cut here too!
He was sleeping just like this tonight. πŸ’ž
Good night!

Thank you for your visit!

If Only They Could ALL Be Like This, A Bit of This and A Bit of That, A Lot of Gibbs

The Ridge

Wednesday, June 23rd aka Hump Day has arrived. First thing on the agenda for me is to slap my own hand. Yesterday, I was remiss in wishing our pretty young granddaughter, a Happy 14th Birthday. Birthdays are a dime a dozen, it’s true, but every single one is special. We sent her a card and I’m sure she received it but I try to mention our family in my daily blog posts when they are celebrating. So! I hope it was an awesome day, Chelsea!

Chelsea at 3 years old

Happy 14th birthday, Chelsea!
Isn't life great!? πŸ’—πŸ°

On to today. I woke up at 6 with the patter of little feet on the bed and Bill trying to keep the little mutt quiet so as not to wake me. I don’t mind being woke up but gee, I think I was in an interesting dream! 😊 Gibbs and I snuggled in bed until Daddy was finished getting ready and then I got up and took him out for a quick piddle. We settled in my recliner together and Gibbs actually took turns between me and Daddy, while the latter was waiting for his ride to work.

Gibbs enjoys his time outside

After they left, I fed Gibbs a bit earlier than usual, 7:30, took him out for a short ‘business’ walk and then he went in his crate. I had the laundromat to clean this morning and was in town just before 8. A couple of familiar customers were doing their laundry so we chatted a bit as I went about my cleaning. It was just a few minutes before 9 when I headed home. The day started out coolish but was warming up nicely by now.

I just have to keep an eye every couple of minutes to see
what is going in his mouthπŸŒΏπŸ›

Back home, with my tea we went about our day. I didn’t have much on the agenda until 11 when I put Gibbs in his crate and drove around the corner to M’s. He asked for some assistance filling out his CPP and OAS/GIS forms. He offered to pay me for the time but I refused. It’s a favour, what are friends for? We didn’t have a whole lot of success with his CPP because the online access was not working. GRRRR!

I moved him to the picnic table
with a pillow

Because we had the actual paper application for it, we did manage to fill out for his OAS/GIS to take affect next May. He was happy and when we can, I’ll help with the CPP. He’d rather be sure that he’s not screwing it up and he needed a witness sig anyway. It seemed easy when Bill and I did it but now you need to get online to ask for a 6-page application. LOL

Gibbs and I spent the afternoon outside, after I had some quiche and a tart for my lunch. What a gorgeous day! If every day could be like this, with overnight rain, no one would ever complain. I know, I may as well be asking for the moon in a handbasket. 😊 I puttered around, alternating some of my plants into bigger pots, I hung another hat and moved a wall hanging from the storage shed to the side of the Restroom where the colours worked better.

That worked for a while and then he saw
Daddy come home

I watered the hanging plants and spread the last bag of mulch around the tree trunks and in the small gardens. We were surprised and happy to see Billy and Bill pull in the lane around 4.  An earlier day than it has been. It is ‘iffy’ about tomorrow since a lot of other licensed workers will be coming in to do their thing. Whether they boys can continue with their job is yet to be seen. It could be a short day – or not.

after all the fresh air and running around
.........someone is very tired

Bill felt like cutting the front field so hopped on the rider and went out to do that. We were having leftover meatloaf for supper and Gibbs had been outside a lot today so we came inside. I did the morning and lunch dishes and then made myself a cup of tea. Not surprising, Gibbs conked out on the floor. He has been a bundle of energy again today but a well-behaved one. We walked down to get the mail, in between ‘shade flops’, and played a lot. He was tired right out.

After starting my blog, I flitted over to the Rockford auction site where an online auction is closing tonight. I am bidding on a couple of key things so want to keep an eye. I’ll let you know only if I get lucky by winning without spending too much. I sat in my chair and expected someone to join me but he hardly paid attention to where I was. I was going to open my new book but decided instead to work on a crossword puzzle from the weekly paper.

The sky was clear all day
but clouds moved in and out this evening

Bill came in around 5:30 from cutting the front field and that was my cue to start warming up supper. After eating the meatloaf meal, same as last night except for the veggie, we had the last of the apple crisp that Jess and Matt brought. I added cream to mine. I’m glad that is out of the fridge now too! We needed water so I agreed to do the dishes while Bill went over to the Acreage to fill our bladder. He will be tired tonight!

When he returned, it was 7 so he figured he had time to cut grass in the back field. We are expecting our company sometime tomorrow afternoon but we are also expecting what sounds like a fair bit of rain for Friday, Saturday, Sunday – oh my. I don’t know if it will be a wash out, we certainly hope not and we do get missed often up here so our fingers are crossed. Either way, at least the grass will be cut which means no cutting on the weekend.

Still a pretty view out our windows

Gibbs and I stayed inside and watched some tv, did more crosswords and I worked on my blog. The morning will be slow so if it doesn’t get done tonight, there is always tomorrow. 😊

My cousin posted this news clipping on our family site from Jan. 1945
The story is about my Aunt Fern and Mom πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“
Worth sharing for sure.
Good night y'all!

This was a great day. I hope yours was just as nice. We learned this evening that a friend is in the hospital so our prayers are with him.

Thank you for your visit!

Lovely Change in Weather, Bill Back to Work

The Ridge - Home
Through the late night and early morning hours of Thursday, May 2nd we were awake a few times. Clemson was either too hot, too cold but definitely not ‘just right’ as he would move and shake two or three or four times. This would wake us, waiting to see if he was going to settle back down or if he was going to jump off the bed.

Once the fog cleared, I got out for a beautiful walk with NO wind
I didn’t realize that he actually did hop down at 1:15 when he moved as I must have dropped right off again. Poor Bill had to get up and take him outside, unbeknownst to me. Next thing I heard was Bill downstairs finishing his breakfast at 5:15. I took my earplugs out and listened while he finished everything else before coming to the bedroom for my goodbye kiss and hug. He slipped off into the foggy morning with Black Beauty.

I wasn't putting too much faith in a sun appearance today
I'd asked a few days ago if he would mind leaving Ptooties this time, since it would be a longer stretch away and he obliged. I know it doesn’t make sense to do that too often but I was happy to have the SUV for some errands today. I dropped back off to sleep at 6 as he pulled out and didn’t see daylight until 10 to 8! My goodness, I guess I caught up on the lost sleep just fine!

Walking the country road, things are drying up
The fog was still thick at the road and Clemson was still sleeping (of course he was!) so I had my tea while finishing my post from yesterday. We were home in good time last night but I was too tired to even think about finishing the day’s catch up. I would make too many mistakes and be too impatient so waited until morning. Seldom does my blog get posted without a proofread although it has happened on occasion.

Bill was kind enough to pick me up 6 bags of black mulch
the other day at Walmart
The price was crazy cheap!
After Clemson got up and went out for his morning business, I took our small Canon camera, my phone and a plastic bag for a walk. I grabbed a makeshift walking stick that I’d picked up last summer just because it was there. I decided this walk would be for the environment as well as for me and although I will not pick up garbage (we pay for our bag pickups) I gathered a grocery bag full of plastic bottles, pop cans and the odd beer can and bottle. My contribution and this time not for the $$.

And we wonder why accidents happen
the little green car and this suv were taking everyone's lives in their hands
passing at high speeds and in unsafe areas
After getting my 2 ½ miles in and returning home, I sorted the collection and came inside. I did find 4 cash-able returns. Yesterday I’d picked up some fresh fruit for my smoothies so pulled the creamy mix out of the fridge and blended it to delicious splendor! I know the fruit has natural sugar but in moderation along with the cream products, I’m not concerned. There is enough good fat in each glassful and it is quite tasty. I had a bit of the creamy Jell-o at noon and got cleaned up for a trip in to Hanover.

We got the call yesterday that our carpets were ready, the ones we purchased in Quartzsite. One needed to be cut to length and the two new ends bound. Bill did our last one himself but a professional fix for $25 was worth it to get a good colour match. I am so pleased that our weather is finally straightening up. Even if there is no sunshine yet, at 59F/15C and rising, I’m a happy camper.

It is celebratory in itself that it isn’t raining and there is hardly any wind at all. The sun made an appearance just after lunch and stuck around for much of the afternoon. Maybe a sunset tonight? I got cleaned up and drove to Hanover, just after the lunch hour, to Cuneo Interiors Carpet One. It was a surprise that the cutting and rebinding service was even less that originally quoted. Bonus!

My sister's lovely home
I drove to my sister’s house and dropped off a card for Gerry since we didn’t get over on his birthday. Just this morning we all concluded that the boys’ (Gerry and John) birthday dinner will be on Monday night. The 6 of us have made it a bit of a tradition and we all enjoy the evening out to venues in the area. After Donna’s place, I stopped in at Giant Tiger and Dollarama. Since I’m in town, you know. I found a few little things at each place and then scooted home.

I had ground beef and sausages to divide into freezer packs so did that, cleaned up the dishes and moved the leftover cake into a smaller container. The fridge and freezer are full now so we should be able to have decent meals for a while. Once I got things tidied up in that department, I set about getting the vacuum out so I could replace the hallway runner at least. It was from our sticks and bricks home, bought a long time ago to match the interior. It worked well then but now it is time for it to go.

5 meals with ground beef and 6 meals of sausages
I got the floors done and the new runners in place, with a little velcro to hold them in place, just in time to get Clemson his supper. The King mustn’t wait, you know! It is warm inside the Suite so windows are open. I haven’t given much though to what I’m going to have for supper. Maybe some chicken hearts and Brussel sprouts. Now doesn’t that sound wonderful? Haha some of you are curling up your noses, my hubby being one when he reads this. 😊 You don’t have to eat it.

Out with the old
In with the new
So, after receiving a text from Bill at 5:45 that he was still working, delivering a trailer to Ailsa Craig, I decided not to wait too much longer for my supper. I sat with Clemson and read some more. It was likely 6:15 when I began cutting up the chicken hearts with green onions and zucchini. Frying them in butter with salt and pepper, I got the sprouts out of the freezer and prepped them for microwave cooking.

Frying in butter
Brussel sprouts
Oh my, this was delicious! I enjoyed it very much and will do it again for a nice keto dish when I’m on my own.

Before dishes, I took a walk down the lane way with Clemson. He seemed keen to get out with me. The frogs were already chirping up a storm and it reminded me of how Scott was blown away by their volume. I wonder how many decibels they are? As I walked, I saw many turtles sitting along the banks of the pond islands – over there. They aren't skittish because I'm not too close.

I'm losing hope of a sunset
But then I saw some hope again
In the end, it never happened
Going for a walk with Mom
Neither of us needed a jacket at 7
She doesn't seem to be on very solid ground
but she isn't budging
Ma Goose was still sitting on her nest and the most fun thing I saw was the muskrat/otter swimming right towards me.

He was wasting no time whatsoever
I could see his eyes here
He realized I was a real person, not a tree
Okay, I guess I'll go the other way
At first, I thought he was going to come straight at us to the bank but at the last minute he made an ‘s’ turn and carried on another way. That was funny. I see him all the time swimming across both ponds like little motor boats. Actually, sitting here at the table, there is more than one. They are having fun out there and I can watch them by their wake.

Father Goose is in the opposite pond and just sits there most of the day
Reflections are beautiful

I did the dishes when we returned and went to work on this post so I could sit with my little buddy. This has been a good day, never great when I am here alone, but a good one for sure. The evening was spent with my book, well, maybe I will turn the tv on so I can watch a recorded movie. Otherwise the nights seem very long. I hope you’ve enjoyed your day and a little more warmth and dryness. At least, I can say that here on The Ridge. Yay!

The pussy willows are confused and already bursting
He's telling me that he wasn't going to eat the finch food
Yah right
Bill called at 7:45 after arriving at his 'summer' trailer at Kirk's. We chatted and caught up. He read me a text from our West friends, such dear friends, they never, never forget our special occasions. We didn't need the text to remind us that we will be apart on our special day for the first time. This year it can't be helped.

One of my favourite views no matter how high or low the water is
And the winds have remained low all day
This is all the sunset amounted to before it disappeared behind those clouds
Good night y'all!
Thank you for your visit and for any comments you would like to leave.
