An Easy Warm Day, A Campfire this Evening

Park Place RV Park

On Tuesday, Feb. 20th we were all up by 7 and took turns having our shower. Bill got ready to go flying while I had mine. It was a pleasant 54F/11C this morning at 8 when Gibbs and I struck out for our walk. Beautiful! I played some games and messaged Nancy that I was going for block walk and then working on the puzzle. She joined me, I was hoping she would! 😊

There are a fair number of sky photos today

The puzzle is coming along.
Left - morning accomplishment
vs
Right - afternoon

I made a coffee and walked over to the clubhouse until noon hour putting pieces in. I’m loving this puzzle, it’s a great fantasy picture and fun to do. Bill and I had lunch together and I went out to read my book for a while before going back around 2:30 for another hour. It’s coming together quite nicely.

Gibbs watches under the Suite as a Class A pulls
into their site.
Once satisfied, he lays down.

More sky

Back home, I mixed up a jug of my beer margaritas, using the strawberry vodka Nancy gave me. It is one of those things – regifted from friends down the line. I like it just fine! When I was near finished my drink, I took Gibbs for his afternoon walk. It is bacon cheeseburger night in the Richards’ household, so we invited Nancy to join us for supper. With her wavy Lay’s chips, it was almost too much!

Mr. or Mrs. Hummingbird graced my
premsence this afternoon although i took lousy pictures

Company for supper.

Patti, Rick, Sheila and Buddy to start

We got distracted by the beautiful 'after' sunset glow

Patti and Rick were hosting a campfire in the park tonight so I walked over to join in. It felt good sitting around even though the warmth was necessarily required. There was popcorn and S’mores or just roasted marshmallows to munch on. 😊 I stayed for an hour and a half before returning home. It was a nice turnout of about 10 rv’ers altogether. Thanks guys!

It was  a nice time tonight and a nice change.

Bill was watching a movie so I downloaded pictures and wrote a quick blog post of today. This has been a fun day. The temperature reached 75F/24C with mostly sunny skies. Clouds moved in later, plenty enough to give cause for some lovely pictures.

I was also distracted by the moon tonight
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!

The Forecast Changes, Clean Clothes Again, Company for a Campfire

The Ridge

On Saturday, Sept. 2nd the sky was not clear as was predicted by the knowledgeable forecasters (surprise, surprise!) instead, it was covered in gray clouds. Bill was up at 6:30, took Gibbs out and quickly decided that he would not be flying this morning. It appeared as if it could rain and the winds were around 12-15 mph. However, I still had a job to do so was up around 7 and with sorted laundry, on my way to Durham by 7:30.

Friday's night fall

A clearer sky when
I returned home around 10
(we still love our gate)

Whatever these clouds are, they
sure make a pretty picture. ♥

It was quiet so I set about loading 2 machines and then emptying the Lost & Found box. Which was full. Again. Tossing lonely single socks and washing everything else, I carried on with the usual routine. There were two machines needed testing and on of the dryer lint trays has not been closing for a few weeks so I spent 15 minutes trying to fix that problem. I succeeded but it takes some elbow grease to get it in the correct position. LOL

Taking a step back, I meant to include this picture
of 'Tommy', the Ford we're working on for Wes.
One side sanded and primed - again.

A couple of ladies came in, no men today! And one older lady stayed and chatted with me while I cleaned. She is a retired police officer from Oakville (near Toronto) and we had a great old time conversing. 😊 With the Mat cleaned, my August pay collected and a basket full of damp clothes, I said goodbye to ‘Ellen’.

Remember the concessions I mentioned that we make?
Bill is so used to Gibbs sitting on his shoulder, that
he was asleep in mere minutes. 💘

And later, bringing the laundry in, Gibbs
keeps watch across the field behind us.

Finished that, I drove to the Water Store, filled a bottle and stopped to drop off the bag of donations at Rethreads. Duty done. 😊 Back home, Bill was cutting grass and I set about hanging the clothes. By now, the sun had come out pretty strongly but, alas, it wasn’t to last. We had bacon and eggs for lunch and Bill dozed while I cleaned things up in the kitchen.

The one gate needed a bit of adjusting so
Bill worked on that too by moving the hinges

The sky once again toyed with the clouds and the air dropped a few degrees. I’m surprised that we even reached our 21C/71F today with the wind. Bill went down the lane to pick up large rocks to fill the holes at the gate area. It needs to be tidied up.

Just relaxing outside

Enjoying my view

Hibiscus bloom #2 with more
in the wings.

The Durham Fair is on this Labour Day weekend but I saw no evidence of it when I was in town. Mind you, I don’t drive near the fairgrounds either. Fairs, these days, are not my thing. Robin and I have set up a plan for my cleaning tomorrow and Monday and have decided on a rate of pay. We both seem happy with the outcome of that. She’s hoping for more bookings to keep coming in and I hope so too, I wish her nothing but success.

A tasty summery supper

For supper, Bill grilled sausages for supper and I fried leftover potatoes inside. I had, what else? Brussel sprouts and he had corn for a veggie. We’ve decided to host a fire tonight and at 4:45 the clouds vacated the sky completely! The wind should die down, as per usual, and it isn’t cooling off to less than 15C/59F overnight which hopefully makes for a nice evening.

I love this picture of Bill and Mike
They both look very relaxed.
They work together and have a good relationship.

There were 7 of us sitting around Bill’s fire, 8 including Gibbs. He doesn’t sit as much as wander until it gets dark and then he sticks closer to us. No ball throwing after darkness descends. This has been a good day. Supper was quite tasty, I sliced into a home grown tomato to add to my plate. Yummy. Donna, Gerry, Mike, Joanne, my niece, and Ted joined us around 7:15 and it was a pleasant visit, no skitters and not too chilly at all! The winds did not let up, however, so us gals had our necks covered. I hope your September is starting out well too!

A bit of pink sky

Gibbs finally settles down in the
warm glow of the fire light.

I'm not good at moon pictures, as you know,
but this was pretty the way it turned out.

A commenter asked about my toasted Western ingredients and all I basically add is eggs, cut up bacon, onions, green peppers, shredded cheese and sometimes mushrooms. It looks like an omelette but we eat it most often in a toasted sandwich. I’ll add black olives, tomatoes and sometimes zucchini to mine but Bill isn’t keen on those things. 😊

Everyone left around 10:30
and our fire was still blazing - safely contained.
good night!

Thank you for the visit!

Getting Shopping Out of the Way, Ending with a Campfire

The Ridge

On Saturday, Sept. 3rd I was up and off to work before Bill left for the flying field. With Monday being a holiday, I decided to leave the laundry until then, regardless of weather. Today, I wanted to clean in town and then carry on to Hanover for groceries.

a lovely day

We have a set budget for food for a month and it is actually probably lower than many of you have BUT it works well for us. Bill transfers the amount from our two pensions at the beginning of each month and I just pick away at it each time I shop. I used to fret about how much I spent nipping here and there to pick stuff up, not being the financial planner of the household. Now, it is so easy for me! 😊

My Sedum is slowly (at a snail's pace) turning pink
Need to get it in the ground soon

Where are you going, Gibbs?
"who me? Nowhere, Mom"

After cleaning the Mat, I stopped at a couple of garage sales but only found a couple of items, one being a small garden stone. I’m keeping my eyes open for bird feeders, since mine all deteriorated so badly, they got pitched, except for one that is holding on with its final ‘legs’. My finch feeder is metal and is the best one ever. No luck at the sales for any but maybe in the spring.

Who's that there in the trees?

Oh, now I see!

I drove to the Dollarama first and stocked up on cards for the birthdays in the not-so-distant future. Then Walmart for the big stock up. I did nip into Grant’s Independent for my 10% fat Liberte yogourt. It was a surprise to find it on sale so I bought 2. The cost at the self-checkout for my cartful was more than I expected but I got some good deals. For example - pork ribs, 2 – 2 packs for $26. That’s a great price for 4 meals!

Ever get the feeling you're being watched?

It took longer than I thought, it was busy being a long weekend. Every body and his aunt were out. 😊 I didn’t put Gibbs’ collar on him before I left and I never heard a peep as I drove up. It was a good test when Bill returned home from the field around 1 and he passed with flying colours. Only a couple of ‘woofs’ and he listened to me, just watching for Daddy to get parked. He barked once when I opened the door for him to get meet him but stopped right away. Wow!

My 'new' little garden stone
I might have to touch up the paint on it

So, Gibbs needed to take his heart worm tablet today
He had different ideas about that
It must not taste as good as the outside crap he eats
After Bill covering 3 pieces in peanut butter and me holding
his mouth closed, he ate them.
One piece left. He just licked the peanut butter off and spit out the meds.
Goof! We'll try again tomorrow.

No collar on him all day and not a single bark that was worth admonishing anymore than ‘no bark, good boy’. We each did our own thing for the afternoon, Bill worked on a plane down at the Hangar and I worked on finishing my puzzle.

This is all that is left today
Sadly, one piece missing

With 18 pieces that don't belong.
Good grief! Burn pit!

Done!

That one didn’t take long! I’ll have to decide which 1000 pc. one I can fit best on my table. Or maybe I’ll do something else out there. 😊 It was a very humid day, even though the temperature reached 28C/82F, it felt a lot hotter than that. I turned the a/c on before lunch and was grateful that I did.

No disappointment here

Just before supper, cheese and bacon burgers on the Weber, I turned it off, feeling the breeze had picked up and sky had clouded over. When Bill was grilling, he saw a flock of geese flying overhead. That's the first we've seen them since July.

We went to the Acreage for a campfire and other than being eaten alive by mosquitoes for about an hour and a half, it was a nice evening. Strange, we thought they’d have petered out by this time of the season.

Cloudy but pretty sky on the drive over

Sunset through the trees

It was a warm evening though and Gibbs kept us entertained. We put his collar on just before we left the house since he barks a lot when approaching their laneway.

This isn't a great picture but after it gets
dark(ish) we put him on his leash
Here he has his ball in his mouth but
Daddy says "it's too dark to play fetch"

We were home by 10 and I read my book until I kept dropping off. I picked up the book Dog Tags again, that I started over a month ago, and this time got right into it, zipping through the story. It is quite good and entertaining with comical quips throughout.

Good night!

It was a great day! Thank you for stopping by.

My Day Off, Campfire to End the Day

The Ridge

On Friday, June 10th Bill was up and getting ready for his work day when Gibbs and I got up at 7. Instead of going for a walk right away, we were waiting until Bill was ready to walk down to the corner to meet Billy. We’d go with him. 😉 We sat until 7:40, and then got shoes on and Gibbs’ harness. Woops! There comes Billy up the lane! He’s early today, wouldn’t you know?

Gibbs found this plant quite smelly
I had to tug at the leash to get him to move on

So, after they left, Gibbs and I went for our walk down to the corner. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was in charge of the sky today and although it was only 10C/51F it felt good. Back home, I made my tea and relaxed working on the last couple of Wordles. Gibbs was a big help. This felt nice, not having to rush off anywhere today. At 9, we went out and I got my lawn mower out to cut some more grass.

It was a lovely morning

There were a few spots that I didn’t get to yet, the grass was too wet up on the berm but the corral hilltop got finished as much as I could do safely. Bill will use the weed eater to get the stuff on the hill. It was warming up nicely by the time I finished so I put the little runner on his leash and went into the Bunky to work on the puzzle. Well, that just meant no more lawn was getting cut today. 😉

I thought this would be an easy one but with all the odd
shaped pieces, it is a good challenge. 😀

I made a coffee in the Bunky today and it was quite convenient having Gayle’s Keurig out there. She doesn’t want it back so that’s handy! I had some lunch at noon and then drove into Durham to get 7 more garden stakes at FS Co-op.

While I was cutting grass, I let Gibbs run
free
He was entertained for a good half hour chasing
Chippy around these sewer hoses behind
the outhouse
Chippy could go in them but L.J. couldn't.

Then I went across to Foodland and picked up a few sales items. Yogourt, potato chips and Chapman’s Ice Cream. All good prices. One last stop at I.D.A. drug store to get my B12 vitamins, also on sale. Happy camper, I am!

Gibbs knew I was going somewhere after lunch
but waited patiently for his milk bone

While in there, I heard a couple of sales girls talking about the Library’s book sale around the corner. I knew about it but had forgotten! Of course, I went. What a ton of books and I was elated when it was all by donation. People were walking out with grocery bags and boxes full of books. I found quite a bundle myself and one book that I’ve read and wanted a copy of my own. Man Called Ove has been on my watch list for a couple of years.

Quite a haul!

Back home, Bill had just arrived home himself. It was 3pm so I’m glad he was done for the day too. He dozed, Gibbs dozed and I rested. We’ve been invited to the Acreage for a campfire tonight so after we had toasted Westerns for supper, we got dressed for the evening.

this was a delicious supper!

A strawberry treat for dessert 💓

The fire was going when we arrived at 8
We all marvelled at how nice it is to be so light out
at 8, 9, 9:30.

Donna and Gerry had us all fooled by this turtle.
Gibbs barked his head off at it and it wasn't until I got close
enough, noticing that his head wasn't going in his shell
that I clued in. Silly us!

Gibbs was on his rope for a while
Then off for a while when he went wandering
Back on his leash after not coming when called

I always take too many clothes but erring on the side of caution is the best thing for me. Not much is worse than feeling cold while sitting outside.

Nice fire, Donna!

What a great day! From beginning to end, things were pretty darn good. 😊 As it turned out, Bill used the blanket on his legs and I used my big sweater. The winds had died down so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

We all laughed as Gibbs got upon Bill's shoulder  for a better look
Good night!

Thank you for stopping in.
