Quick Trip to Blythe, Peaceful Afternoon

We were up and out of bed on Friday, Jan. 18th just a few minutes before 7. Bill had his coffee and once I could see across the desert clearly, at 7:20 I was out the door for my walk. I walked up the main road again and measured a mile so I know for the future. As I approached the trash dumpsters, I saw Wilf the maintenance guy chatting with someone who had just dropped a bag of garbage. Hmm, that was odd.

Good morning, Friday!
The big cardboard sign was nowhere to be seen but yellow caution tape and pylons were spread across most of the entrance plus a ‘Closed’ sign was visible by the large blue dumpster. I continued walking to the mile marker and turned around. There were 4 rigs in line for the dump station across the road and I knew that would only get busier as the day went on.

A few pictures from my walk at 7:30
I walked up to Wilf and one of the volunteers from yesterday who organized personal trucks to take loads of garbage to the Transfer Station, 5 miles out of town. I thanked her on behalf of our group for their efforts and she informed me that the bins were now empty and the area was open. Wilf was removing the tape and sign.

There is a brown ocotillo close to camp and although it isn't
a pretty green, there are a very few beautiful red flowers on display
I can’t believe that people get so riled up about the smallest of things. It’s trash for crying out loud! The stories each of them told me make me wonder why people have to be like that. We are all in the same boat together, get along!
Back in business
I walked back and texted Rob to let him know that Bill and I would take them up on their offer to go into Blythe with them. Rob needed to visit Larry Green Ford briefly and we would appreciate a stop at Albertson’s for some dairy products.

Looking back, Wilf was removing the sign
I'm sure he puts up with a lot of crap in this job
I'm glad I thanked them both for their efforts
At 9:30 that was our destination. Bill needed to stop at Ace Hardware for a purchase that he can tell you about if he wishes to do so, then we went to Albertson’s. Pat and I split on some eggs that were on sale and we each got what we needed before heading home. A quick stop in the Q at the Chevron for cheap gas for the gas can and then home.

Maybe our American friends know what this is, but
Bill or I have never heard of or seen such a funny looking thing
A Jackfruit, you need to wear gloves to cut it!
I fried up eggs and bacon for lunch and I had a coffee. The sun is present and much warmer than yesterday and the temperature feels nice when you are out of the wind. It is 65F as I sit here at 1:30. A nice day. I went outside with my crocheting and enjoyed the fresh air. Bill dozed in his chair (he has managed to get the foot rest to open) and Clemson dozed in mine (with the blanket and my hoody all bunched under him). My boys are happy.

Happy Hour
Left to Right
Rose, Pat, Tom, Deb, Patsy, Bill's chair, George, Rob and Suzie
George G. had taken his chair back to the coach already
Eventually, Bill joined me outside with his model kit and soon enough it was 3:30, time to gather for Happy Hour. There is no obligation to do so but so far, something we all like to do. The conversation flows either two by two or in threes, whatever. At 5:00 it worked out that I was feeling chilled in my capris and light sweater so I moved first to head for home. That broke up the party which wasn’t my intention but someone has to be first, I suppose. 😊

Apparently I was colour co-ordinated today and so Bill took my picture
Teehee, I even match my chair, Suzie said
Bill lit the Weber to grill a couple of pork chops. Oooh, my favourite! Bill knows it isn’t so offered to add some sauce while they cooked. All we were having with them was a salad and supper wouldn’t take long. We bought some more Tillamook ice cream today so if we felt hungry later there was that for dessert. My tummy was grumbling so our eggs and bacon from noon hour were wearing off. Our weather station said it was 71F outside but I beg to differ when you are in the wind.

The chops look good as they are grilling

And on my plate but I have to admit, I ate 3 or 4 pieces
and pawned the rest off on Bill
Not the chef's fault, I just don't like the taste of pork chops anymore
This was a great day with a morning trip into the ‘big’ city of Blythe and we stocked up on a few necessary items. The evening will be quiet with either some reading, crocheting and blogging. I hope you’ve enjoyed your day.

The sunset doesn't look a whole lot different than the sunrise
just taken facing west instead of east tonight
Good night all!
Thank you for visiting my blog today. Tomorrow the big Tent/RV show starts so we’ll be off and running early. Stay tuned!

  2. I am kind of thinking if people would be responsible for hauling out their garbage as they haul in the stuff there would be a lot less garbage. Not just Rv'ers but everyone. I think in England they pay for garbage disposal by the pound. Like plastic bags and water bottles that is the only way people will pay attention....Not a rant...just an observation.

    1. You are absolutely correct. We wish they would recycle here, thst would definitely cut down on a lot when if everyone didn't do it.

  3. You sound happy to be back in Q! Isn't it neat that people are helping out with the garbage situation. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I was reading your older posts and snickered about your testy neighbour in Borrego. Hmmm seems like there are always space issues there. lol. Enjoy your stay and we hope you get warm dry weather soon.

  4. You can't please all the people all of the time. It's a fact of life. Not much you can do about it.
Looks like an interesting fruit. Awfully big though. Doesn't look to appetizing from your photos.
Happy hour looks like a fun time. Glad you enjoyed your day.

  5. Definitely not but to fight about trash? I feel bad for the maintenance fellow just trying to keep the peace. He actually had to call the Sheriff.

  6. It is nice being parked out here by friends. Mostly doing our own things then coming together at the end of the day to chat and just enjoy each others company.

    1. I believe that is why it works so well to be camped close to each other. Rob and Pat and us have done that for the most of our journey unless we go shopping together and it works well. :) It is very nice to have you all close by.

  8. Never heard of Jackfruit...sure isn't a pretty fruit is it? Nice to have the garbage mess cleaned up, hope it stays that way! It is weird they don't recycle isn't it? Gotta say the pork chops look yummy to us..but everyone's taste buds are different. Ken bar b q's chicken thighs for him and I tell him they look good, but I prefer the breast so I get where you are coming from. Love Happy Hour! Enjoy the Big Tent today!!

    1. That Jackfruit is very strange looking. I wonder who buys it?
I think I'll go back to having chicken and let Bill have the chop. I just don't enjoy it and he isn't big on chicken either. :S

  9. We like the thinner fast fry Pork Chops and use Apple Sauce to change the taste.
Good Luck at the Big Tent. We'll a couple of days.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Nothing would change the taste enough for me to enjoy them so it's best to leave them for him. :)
Thanks, we had a good morning.

  10. Happy hour looked nice and I wish we could have joined you. Good thing that you were able to split the package of eggs with Pat. I was eying a carton of 30 eggs on sale the other day and didn't know where to put them in my fridge, so bought the smaller package.

    1. Happy hour would welcome you guys, maybe one day?
We both eat a fair bit of eggs but 36 would have been too many for either of us!
