A Bit of a Few Things

 The Ridge

On Wednesday, Oct. 1st we welcome a new month. Are we thrilled? Not sure but we are starting to feel a bit of anxiety, mixed feelings. The weather is at least cooperating, so I'm able to be out doing stuff.

Good morning!
Silhouettes on my way to town
before 7 am.

Bill left for work just after 6:30 and I was in his tail about 5 minutes later. I had to unblock the Mat, I was that early. In and out quickly, I washed a quilt set from the bnb and bright it home to hang.

Sometimes the washer is pretty full so we bring stuff to Robin's for her to wash. They are on their way to Saskatchewan so this is something I can do easily. I clean again for Robin on Thursday so will return them then. The guests stayed 2 nights this time.

Her pretty blue quilt and shams
on the line.
They dried quickly with a lovely
outdoor smell.

The sky was clear this morning again but Bill said no dew on the grass at 6 when he took Gibbs out. Usually he has to wipe his feet. It was chilly though, only 5C/41F, when we got up. Things like that reinforce what is coming and what we need to do.

Does Goat look sad to you?
No, he looks loved,
with a couple of small holes.

Today, I decided to do some of those 'small' things, so moved the coffee table into the 'Christmas' location. I wanted to pull the sofa bed open and strip the sheets, remove the sofa cover and wash things. There is a method to my madness.

Last night, we started finding
piles of fibrefill.
It had to happen, but he is much
slower at it with Goat.

No one sleeps there and there is no point having it all made up as if company were coming. 😅 The couch cushions and the back of the couch are in bad shape. Cheap 'pretend leather' and it explains why we covered it in the first place.

Yup, they're pretty bad
and the back middle cushion of
the sofa, is the same.

After that, I emptied our book/dvd cupboard that lives beside the fireplace. There is a lot of weight in those dvd sets we've purchased over the years. West Wing, Jag, Downton Abbey, NCIS and Sex in the City. They will not be going south with us this trip.

It was a pretty day

I'd already weeded through the books and although I have read many, Bill hasn't and he 'may' get into reading again this winter. I packed about 8 that I will take along. I came across a journal-type book that I began writing in for Gibbs. Well, AS Gibbs, actually.

The pond view is pretty today.

It only goes for his first year, sporadically, from May 7, 2021 to his first trip south. 💕 It is quite funny, if I do say so myself! I'm glad I did that and will keep it in our memory cupboard. Then, I went to the Bunky and emptied the loft.

We use those vacuum bags, all sizes, for any cloth winter coats, heavy sweaters and blankets we want to keep. A few things came out for donation, we don't need Queen size anymore and will buy new when/if we do.

The Sedum is gorgeous!

I replaced the duvet on our bed with the much lighter one from the sofa bed and think the less weight will help us sleep better. It's just hard to know what to do with all the extra stuff so I'll take it to Rethreads in town for donation this week.

I, then, paper quilled. I made 2 pair of earrings for the season (oops, forgot a picture) and made a fun Thanksgiving card, just because I wanted to make a turkey. It was just after 5 when Bill got home so I closed things up out there and came in to start supper.

Of course, my helper
right in there like a dirty shirt again.
💖

Cooking chicken seems to be my nemesis lately. No matter what I do, it is either too much or too little and we don't enjoy it. We have one pack left in the freezer to eat before we head out and I'll take a break from buying it. It just seems I can't get it right.

I wanted to do a turkey,
he's kinda cute, no?
Notice the knife, fork and spoon
decoration along the bottom?
😂🦃

Tonight, I fried the last of the leftover potatoes and reheated the corn and that was all we chose to eat. Tasting the overdone poultry was enough. Nope. It just meant filling up with an ice cream bar. That worked! I'm going to use Madame IP for the next chicken meal.

Looks better than it tasted,
or does it?
The potatoes were delicious!

We cleaned up the few dishes and Bill made his lunch. He's happy to be working this week and it is a fairly easy outside job although still....work. LOL I worked on my blog and we settled into the evening. It has been a good day, 18C/66F and I have accomplished a few things.

Good night!

Thank you for stopping by. Bill says thank you to all of you for the birthday wishes. He feels blessed.

  1. Yes, cute turkey!! I like the little feet :) Gibbs is such a good helper ~ just wants to be included!
Your potatoes always look good! Going to try them tomorrow = frying pan, oil/butter? Hope that works. Your pond looks so nice and maybe lots of turtles next summer!

    1. Thank you Payson48.
I fry the potatoes in bacon grease. Oil works as well but I find I just need very little if I want to get the potatoes crispy.
That's one thing I cook well! Haha

  2. That is a cute turkey card and Gibbs is such a good boy. I love the photos when he sits in the chair and looks out the window.

    1. Thank you Sue. It's a homemade card so I don't have an envelope big enough. Good thing I bought a pattern in Arizona last winter to make one.
I love when Gibbs looks out the window too, like a little man.

  3. I always find it interesting the changes in habits that evolve as one gets older & find tech can make things more convenient-for instance, frozen chicken & air fryer, books on line via local library &"Libby",music on all the varied feeds .When your car goes to storage we'll know you're getting serious, lol. All the best.

    1. I know, it's crazy how things have changed for us in our generation. I have friends who just refuse to adapt and yet I know that in order to get along we need to take the changes as they come and do our best.
Yep the car will be going in after Thanksgiving, I hate to part with it too soon. Thank you!

  4. Lord, I can't cook pork chops, so I know how you feel about the chicken. EVERY time I cook them, they are tough as ever. so sad.

  5. I was going to say Instant Pot. Slow cooker with some kind of sauce (mushroom soup maybe) always works for me. Comes out tender every time. Or fry in a pan, cover in sauce and let it cook on low for 30-45 minutes. I'm with you on getting rid of "stuff". With no place to donate, much ends up at the end of my driveway with a FREE sign.

    1. Yah, I'll try the IP with the last package. The air fryer does the chicken thighs quite good but these breasts are too big.
      Thanks Nancy.
Out on our road, things don't disappear so we'll take them to donate or garbage.

  6. Cute turkey card. I hope you can manage to get the chicken breasts cooked to your liking.

    God bless.
