The Ridge
On Tuesday, Oct. 7th I was the only one who had to be up and out of the Suite. Yes, it began raining around 4 am and that meant no work for Bill and the boys in Port Elgin. That also meant that Bill had once more entered a 6-month retirement. 😀
I'm very happy for him, he's happy and Gibbs is happy for him to be home. It's a happy household and now we can settle down to the other things. I left for the Mat around 7 and with just one other customer, I did the big dryer lint trays and then set about the normal routine.

Not a good picture but when I
took Gibbs out for his piddle last
night at 9:30, no light was needed.
There were quite a few items that needed to be washed and/or dried and put into the Lost & Found. I actually discovered an over-stuffed washer with dirty clothes that was just left..........but too late for me to hang around and wait for them to finish. So, I split them up into 2 washers and set them to launder.

Next time I'm through, I'm stopping
to get a donut tree picture.
I can't seem to get a good one
while driving. It it turning
a pretty colour now.
When I go back on Thursday, if they are still there, they will get dried and donated to Rethreads. They are obviously not lost but left on purpose. I chatted with Trudy to confirm that she is no longer interested in winter cleaning.
Then I messaged Sandy to re-confirm my last day. I advised him that I'm going to train Darlene on Thursday in the event he needs a stand-in for Ron at any time and leave him her contact info. She will do a good job, even with the entrance snow removals.

It was a heavy blanket of clouds
everywhere around us.
Approaching Owen Sound, the
hwy 6 construction is a mess.
Back home, Bill was finished setting up our travel insurance and then I changed and we drove to Owen Sound. Princess Auto had some wheel chocks on sale that were too good a price to miss. Bill needs one for his cargo trailer and now he'll have a back up. 😊

I'd been in the Hanover cafe but
not this one. It's very nice.
Oooh, cinnamon pancakes?
While he was in P.A., I wandered through Michael's. Of course, I found about $30 of 'stuff' for my hobby! Again, good prices so grab what I can. We were both hungry so stopped at 11:30 and had brunch at Stacked. It's a nice breakfast/lunch restaurant and we had good meals.

Movie reference
do you remember it?
A Canadian Tire stop for a replacement generator cover and then home to Gibbs. It spattered rain the whole time, although very light and not unexpected from the forecasts leading up to today. It was not to be a work outside day so we did inside things.

| For me, it was Eggs Benedict with peameal bacon. |
I emptied the 3 cupboards over the recliners of plastic storage containers and purged extras. As long as they had matching lids, for now, they will spend the winter in the Bunky. If I don't miss them, they will be recycled. Most are small, sandwich container sizes and everyone has lots of those.
Bill went through the work clothes, purged what was too worn and packed in vacuum bags the items that he'll wear again next summer. We know he'll be working again, don't we? LOL He called our insurance company with the date to take the car and motorcyle off the policy while we are away, leaving only comprehensive on.
He dozed while I started today's post. For supper, Madame IP cooked our last package of chicken breasts. We ate up the last of M's scalloped potatoes, Bill had corn and I had squash. It was all good but still the chicken was cooked a little too long.

The potatoes were good
but the squash was delicious!
We cleaned up the dishes and settled in for a quiet evening. Bit by bit, things are getting done. 14C/58F was our high today but without much wind, it felt 'okay', just damp hence cool inside. It'll be a bit of a downhill slide for the next couple of days so Bill got our Blue Flame heater out to be ready.
He also put the windows in the screen door yesterday (or Sunday) so bring it on. It was a good day. Having lunch out together hasn't happened much this summer, for obvious reasons, so we enjoyed it. I had just mentioned to Bill that we never saw the sun today, as 'they' first thought, and I looked out at this.
I hope you are taking the cooler days in stride too.

| Even in the eastern sky towards Dot and Gords'. Lovely! Good night! |
Thank you for stopping by.

Congrats on the semi retirement Bill! It is a good feeling.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your upcoming semi retirement Pat! There is something satisfying in knowing the end date.
Fabulous sunset!
Deb
Thank you Deb, from both of us.
DeleteWhat a beautiful sunset. Soon you will be traveling south once again.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Expecting to see a lot more of these sunsets - different but still beautiful.
DeleteEggs Bene here also this morning! Love your sunset pics at the end-look like some of mine in my back yard! Under 100 degrees - come on down! :)
ReplyDeleteYou made them? I'm impressed! Mine would never taste anything like they should. ♥
DeleteHmm, 100 degrees? wow!
So much to do to get ready to go. I bet Bill is looking forward to flying a lot more!!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, lots to do. Getting down to the wire now.
DeleteBill is looking forward to his flying, on a more regular basis for sure!
Lovely photos of the sunset!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure his boss will miss Bill, but it certainly gives him time to get things done before you head south. Good on you for ensuring your coverage over the winter.
I may have to try eggs Benedict at some point - they look delicious. I'm not a fan of the bacon though so have always hesitated ordering them.
Thank you, Mike says there is a bit of a slow down so unless things pick up, maybe Bill won't be missed as much as last winter. heh heh. He has 2 young ones now so Bill feels better leaving early.
DeleteOur coverage is costly enough but we save for it - I dread the day that the cost is out of reach.
You could ask for a different bacon at Stacked but I like peameal.
I wihs I had cooler days - Florida, lol. I wish though.
ReplyDeleteI bet you guys will be so happy to settle down in AZ soon. Or is it NM?
I'm sure you do. Are we every happy? haha
DeleteWe are looking forward to yes, Arizona.
