Yuma Lakes RV Resort
On Sunday, Oct. 26th we had planned to pull out later than normal. We didn't have far to go today, just around 3 hours driving.
It was warm already by 8 when we started the pack up. We slept well and we're ready to move on. Each trip day took us one step closer to our final destination. At 8:30, we hooked up and pulled out of our site and parked in the 'wait' area until 9.

I tried to take Gibbs for a walk
before Bill hooked up but he'd have
no part of it.
Daddy might leave without him!
Ken and Nancy were coming up to say goodbye. Like good rv'ers, they knew not to interrupt the process, waiting until they were sure we were ready to go. ☺️ After final hugs and a well-stocked doggie bag for Gibbs, we left the park at 8:55.

Down I-10W we pulled off to fuel up. Black Beauty's tank wasn't below half, we could have made it, but the price was right at $3.25/gallon. No Mudflap discount required. ð
At 10:30 our usual luck returned and we heard a too familiar *pop*! No swear words here, but the air was blue with our mumblings. Threats of stopping this whole thing, and going home. Was that Bill or me? Didn't matter, we are so fed up with blowing tires.

This is getting tiring,
I feel for him doing this over and over.
The tire minder that Bill bought at the rv show last winter has not been a friend of mine from Day one, causing more unfounded stress than anything. Beep, beep, beep at the change of pressure or temperature. LOL When we needed it, we get no warning. ðĪŠðĨš

Still pretty
This time, it was the first tire that we replaced the fall of '24, I think. So not a lot of miles on it. No reason, no rhyme, just dumb luck it seems. Drivers front trailer tire so that meant roadside replacement. Most drivers move over, 4 did not. Even with my hand motions to 'get the ** over!'

We'd kept the spare in the bed of the truck, a saving grace for Bill, so he had us back on the highway within 30 minutes. What can I say? We're so discouraged right now but got to Yuma without further upset. We pulled into a familiar park, Yuma Lakes RV Resort, and checked in for 5 nights.

Using our Coast to Coast membership, we have enough points to get us a free stay plus $3/night for hydro. That is a bonus after today's debacle.

Yup, we're in Yuma!
It is hot though, no doubt about it. It was 91F/33C when we were setting up. Our a/c has never been turned on so fast once getting things opened up!
We had lunch and then caught up on our blogs. It will be a lazy afternoon, indoors, the pool doesn't even interest me today.

Today's destination.
Just breathe.
We have laundry to do here so once we figure out the tire situation, we will take care of that. For supper, we had leftover pizza reheated in the convection oven. It turned out great!
My brother-in-law and sister called which lifted our spirits and offered suggestions. As John said, 2500 miles away, they are feeling our pain. ð We appreciate that phone call very much.

The pizza and bread twist was excellent tonight.
We loaded the dishwasher and settled in for the evening. Obviously, a lot of discussion ensued about what we do from here. Other than all that, we have had a good day. Gibbs is moving around on the floor in here trying to find the coolest spot where he can see both of us. Bless his little heart.

He was still up and down today, but seemed better on this ride.
By 7 pm, with the sun down, temperatures dropped off from 93F/34C to 83F/28C and surprisingly, that made a nice difference. Don't forget to check out Bill's blog here.

Here is what we have in store. Good night!
Thank you for your concerns about our situation, which I know you will have, and for following along!

Well crap, I feel your pain … and your fear with replacing a tire on the drivers side! I’m glad it went well and you are now in a nice spot for five days.
ReplyDeleteThank you MT.
DeleteOh boy do I know that feeling. We were on our way to 50 Point PP a few years back. Fortunately not far down the highway we blew one tire. My husband isn't as handy as Bill so we called CAA for help. They came and changed the tire, but there was a lot of damage. We decided it was best to go back home. The blow out was right where our fridge was and we were concerned about the propane line. Drove down the road to get to an exit so we could turn around and go home. Just started back home and bam the other tire on the same side blew. Had no spare now, so limped down to the Trenton EnRoute and called a tire company. Called neighbour and he picked me and our dog up and took us home. Ken waited for the tire company. He was there for 5 hours!!!!!! Both blows out did a ton of damage. Was in the shop for months waiting for parts from the States. That was the start of the end for us. Went south 1 more time then sold 5th wheel and truck. Glad we did cause there is absolutely no way we would step foot in the US now for the winter. Hope that is the end of your bad luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that. I know everyone has had troubles and many, like yours, much worse than ours. I often wonder if it is a sign, after 4 tires?, and it is discouraging for sure. If we had a sticks and bricks home, maybe we would make some changes but unlike you, we still love coming to the US regardless of anything.
DeleteI appreciate your comment, Ruth.
Read Bill's blog earlier so sorry this is happening to you guys. I am guessing you are glad to be safely at Yuma Lakes. I am going to make another guess that you will be really, really glad to pull into your winter spot. Lots of hugs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb and Tom. You are right, glad to be 'somewhere' safe and looking forward to Quartzsite when we get there, even later than expected.
DeleteAs I’ve already commented on Bill’s blog, I’m not sure there is much else to say. Count your blessings, you are all safe, there is time to do whatever research is necessary to address the tire issue right there in the city of Yuma. Breath deeply and relax, remember this too shall pass. As RV’ers we all know that some years will just be like this and other years we will not be the ones with issues. It is truly just life, the difference is for RV’ers, our problems happen often while we are hurtling down the highway. Be thankful Bill can do this stuff, it makes a huge difference. Count the positives Patsy, there are many.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Thank you Deb, believe me, behind our disappointments I'm always counting positives. When I see Bill beaten down, I positive the he** out of him! haha
DeleteVery VERY frustrating!! But just look at the stories you can tell for the next ten years!! Always look at the bright side. I think I would be carrying my spare in the back of the truck for the rest of the trip though. I can only say that tires are not what they used to be and I'm glad the rig was not damaged like some I've seen. Have a restful five days.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nancy, our 5 days will turn into more than that as we are replacing tires before we move on. I may grumble but certainly understand positivity and lean on those vibes heavily. :)
DeleteI made a comment on Bill's blog the other day, I gave up on trailer tires 5 years ago and now put Michelin Truck tires on my fifth wheel. We had constant tire issues for several years until we switched to truck tires. We tow a 32 ft Forest River Wildcat built in 2011.
ReplyDeleteThank you Doug. Bill did read your comment and took it to heart. He has wondered the same thing. An outlay of cost for 4 Michelin Truck tires is a big expense but it isn't out of the question. Please don't think he isn't heeding all suggestions as there are many.

DeleteBy the time you head out, it will all forgotten. Only a story to tell Enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about all the tire issues.
ReplyDeleteMan, that's hot! Sure you're not in FL? Lol
Take care
So sorry that you are still having issues with tires. What the heck is going on? I hope you can get some stress free rest for the next few days.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
