Elephant Butte Lake State Park
On Thursday, Oct. 23rd, I felt great when I woke up. I don't know if it was because we were sleeping on our grounding sheet and were actually 'grounded' last night being hooked up OR because I knew we weren't having to get up and move this morning. It doesn't much matter, I felt great.
Of course, the concern about tires was still hovering and I could hear Bill downstairs on his laptop. He carries the burden of our traveling, I'm a very small part of things and sometimes feel very guilty for not being able to pitch in more. He never makes me feel that way, at all, but that is MY burden.
When I came downstairs, he was actually doing banking, having already discovered the location of 3 or 4 or 5 tire shops in the vicinity. We had some breakfast and Bill headed into Truth or Consequences (still love that name) with our damaged tire.

I got washed and dressed and Gibbs and I walked to the lake. Well, as close as the little bum wanted to go. He could see the Suite from down the hill and kept turning around to check on it and to see if Daddy was coming. He is a loyal little gapher, I'll give him that.
We didn't get to the water, so I will go back later. On our way back I saw Mr. Jack Rabbit in the bushes. We walked the road and I was only able to capture a brief video as he hopped across the road. He actually ran. That was exciting for me, my first time seeing one was here.
Bill was home when we returned, and had found a place to get a tire. He was to return in an hour to pick it up, on the rim, pumped and ready to go. When he went back, he took the back driver's side tire that leaked like crazy during the last 2 hours of our trip yesterday. Certain it was the valve stem.
I chased flies around inside while he was gone and played my games. It isn't easy to get a chair out for such a short visit or I would be sitting outside. After lunch, the picnic table may appeal to me enough to sit and read, although not the most comfortable for my 'you know what'. It has metal seating.
Bill returned with a smile on his face around 11:30 and had both issues resolved for a very reasonable price, even considering the exchange.

It was almost noon but he went out to replace the driver's side tire before eating. I made him a sandwich and he came in to eat and for a drink before going back out to finish on the passenger side. Rather than re-install the spare under the Trailer again, it will ride in the bed of Black Beauty for now.
We are good to go again for another trip. We sat and planned our next destination. No spoilers though, you need to stay tuned. While Bill and Gibbs snoozed, at 2, I walked to the lake on my own.
The winds are quite high this afternoon but the sky has cleared nicely. It is hot, but we're not complaining at all! 80F/25C is perfect. I wore a hat to keep my hair under control and managed NOT to lose it. 🤣
I couldn't get right down to the water, the sand was pretty deep and hard to walk in. Still a lovely 25 minute walk. The most I've walked in way too long! I've managed to see a few quail running and chattering behind us and that always makes me chuckle. I love the little guys.

| The water was calling but the sand was too hard to walk through. I'd never make it back up the hill! |
This afternoon, we both decided it was a good day for a Happy Hour drink. Bill had Rim and Coke Zero while I had a Gingerale Zero with Crown Royale. Cheers! I went upstairs to stretch out on the bed so as not to upset my sciatica by using my recliner.
I opened my small window and had a lovely breeze. While I worked on my drink, I started a new book. I haven't read for a while either so opened Goodbye Nobody by Jennifer Weiner, a book Bridgette gave me when we stopped. A different type of story but so far, it has my attention.
For supper, we cleaned up the chili on toast with an ice cream for dessert.
This has been a nice relaxing day. More for me, than for Bill but he seems to have enjoyed his afternoon of relaxation too. Since this may just be our last time here, I'm glad I walked and took it all in.

I couldn't see the sunset from here
so this is its result across the lake
in the west.
Good night!
Thank you for your visit.

DeleteNothing better than knowing you've got good tires. It's a big relief. The perfect way to relax .. a good book and the kid at your feet.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nancy, that's exactly right. 💕
DeleteCheers to Bill!!! Safe travels the rest of the journey. Patti
ReplyDeleteThank you Patti. I say that a lot, only in different ways! 😍
DeleteGlad that the tire issues are fixed. That bunny is an American bush bunny not a jackrabbit as far as I can tell. It's ears are not long enough for a jackrabbit or at least the ones we have here on the Canadian Prairies.
ReplyDeletePoor Gibbs looks tuckered right out.
God bless.
