The Ridge
On Friday, Oct. 10th I thought I would sleep in past 7 since I had nothing going on today. Last night I watched a movie and then episode 2 of Doc. It was 10:30 when I went up to bed.

Good morning!
If you are of the age group I am,
you may remember your parents telling
you that a caterpillar can foretell the winter.
More orange = mild
More black = hard
This one? = a bit of both?
Nope, I was awake before Bill and Gibbs at 2 minutes before 6. I managed to stay in bed until 6:30 after cuddles with Gibbs and my stretches. Feeling great again. 🤗 There nothing wrong with getting up early, especially when there are things to do.
However, I wasn't feeling any pressure today, that's the position we're in. Bill wanted to get a handle on his hobby stuff, and it was too chilly for me to be crawling on the ground to work on the berm garden. M messaged at 8:45 and asked for a ride into town so I earned some cash doing that.

| The plastic slider in our screen door has cracks and we are tired of gluing it. So, we saved some $ and ordered one from Amazon. |
I did get the gardens at the gate done yesterday so only have the one left. When I got home at 11, Bill was busy packing planes etc. in Black Beauty's box. I took my multi- use screw driver down to the gate and started removing our 2 signs. They are metal and don't stay out over the winter.

It arrived today so Bill replaced
it. Looks and works great!
That's when my ho-hum day changed. As I was walking around, I noticed something in the grass. This totally made my day and I phoned Bill to come and meet me at the road. I apologize for the chatter now because IF the videos allow you to see them, we were both very excited.

I don't know how I missed stepping
on them!
Started out with 4 of these sweet little babies.
All of our worrying this summer, has been replaced by this wonderful experience! We counted 16 little guys all making their way to the water.

Bill noticed this little one had a
humped back so I carried him to the
water. He was the runt of the litter.
The rest of my day was nothing in comparison. I did go through our pantry to see what we had in the line of canned and boxed goods and when I moved the chair back, got jabbed by a splinter/sliver.
can see some of the good stuff.
These little guys were fun to watch
coming out of their hole.
Ouch! I didn't think it stayed in so slapped a bandaid on it.When it became too painful to bear, I asked Bill to get it out. There was a whole lot of yelping (me) while he used a needle and tweezers to get that sucker out. I think it was almost an inch long! I told him he hurt me bad but probably saved my life in the process. 💕💕
He had a snooze after another full day of packing and I made my tea and sat with Gibbs downstairs. We left for Catch the Ace at 5:45 and had another fun hour with club members and others. This would be our last one this and the next season so a lot of good byes were said.

Our drive to Durham under
overcast skies.
We did get some rain this afternoon
around 4:30 but it didn't last.
We will get more overnight and
in the morning.
I was happy that Nella, who owns The Book Store, offered to try and sell some of my greeting cards and book marks for a small commission. I left all my card with her and over half of the book marks for the winter. It would be great if she sold some and I will have lots of time to make more.
We had beans on toast for supper with a drumstick for dessert. Just the right amount for us after a rum and Zero Coke at the club. It has been a great day, I can't express enough how fun it was to see that at least 16 of 'our' turtles survived the skunks! Yay! 💝
It was a decent day of 16C/61F under mostly sunny skies and no frost in the morning. A warmer night tonight between 7 & 8C/45 & 47F.
Good night!
Thank you for your visit.

Cute little guys!
ReplyDeleteVery cool here too, rain as well. Warming up for the weekend though.
Deb
Yes, the days seem to start out cold but the sun is pretty powerful by mid afternoon.
DeleteLOVE LOVE seeing the little turtles. Hopefully they have a nice winter. As for the sliver ... OUCH! I know the pain of which you speak! lol
ReplyDeleteAren't they adorable? I could have sat there all day watching them.......well, I did spend a couple of hours with them. ♥
DeleteThanks for sharing the pictures of the little turtles, I have never seen babies before. They are so little and so cute!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I've never seen them come out of their hole before and have only found a couple after they died. :(
DeleteThat was so neat you got to see the babies climbing out and working their way to water.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Mother Nature treat.
Sue
It was so special seeing them come out to the world for the first time.
DeleteThanks for sharing your “little friends” with us and your day.🥰
ReplyDeleteGreat videos! Loved the ladybug from the other day!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Such a treat!
DeleteFun to see the wee turtles! Is this not a little later in the year for hatching...I do hope they survive the winter months.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to try to sell your products via the bookstore. Definitely a good place to find those items and customers will be getting one of a kind items.
I Googled it and they say mid October to early November otherwise if it is too cold for them, they will wait until spring. they had a long way to go to the pond but I'm sure they will make it through all that crappy brush down at the road. Fingers crossed. Bill said 'should we have moved them all to water?' We didn't know what was right for them.
DeleteAwwww, such cuteness. What kind of turtle are they?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
The baby turtles are so cute! Glad you got to witness that. Are they snappers? Becky
