The Ridge
On Thursday, Oct. 16th, it was a day to sleep in (if we wanted), a day to finalize those last minute things and a day for a couple of last visits. Are we excited? Well, yes, we are so close now that we are looking forward to getting on the road.

Good morning!
We were still up shortly after 6:30 but it was because we wanted to. It was closer to 7 when I came downstairs after another great sleep. The temperature dropped to around -1C/31F overnight but we were toasty with the blue flame heater on low.

Gibbs watches Bill hook up the dump trailer
We had a few things going on today so got right to them. Bill hooked up the dump trailer and returned it to Robin's, since they were home. I had some of my personal cash that I wanted to exchange into American. Ouch, I knew it would hurt a bit but wanted some on me.

At Nella's store, she had my cards and bookmarks on display for sale. 😊
We drove into Durham and I popped into The Bookstore to get a picture of the greeting cards I had left with Nella. There were ideas there that I could duplicate but couldn't remember them all! I also needed to retrieve one for a birthday early November. The postal strike is still on-going, kind of, with rotating mail deliveries so it will get delivered eventually.

I think you'll agree that Black Beauty needs a bath.
I finished at the bank, exchange rate is $1.43.8 (!), but it is no surprise. We went to get propane, a bottle of water and some diesel in our 5 gallon jug. With business taken care of, we popped over so Bill and Pat could have a visit one last time. It was around noon when we said our final goodbyes and headed for home.

Much improved!
We had bacon and eggs for lunch and Bill went out to dump tanks and I covered Lila with her new bike cover. She was ready for travel for sure now and will be protected from the elements. The sun was lovely, no clouds, even though the temperature was hovering around 11C/52F early afternoon.

Some might think Gibbs is posing beside the clean truck, but really, he wants to sit in her while we work outside. He must know stuff is changing.
I took advantage and pulled the leaves off the hostas up in the berm garden. The apples can rot there, our rakes are locked up in the shed. Good excuse, right? Of course, Gibbs supervised since we wouldn't let him sit in the truck. It seems to be a favourite place, maybe he knows we're going somewhere soon, 💕

Lila is ready for her ride too.
Bill and Gibbs dozed and I had my shower. I made a pot of chili in Madame IP for 2 or 3 nights on the road and I boiled 10 eggs. Keeping 4 aside, I mixed up egg salad for sandwiches, also for on the road. Bill brought the mailbox in since we have forwarded our mail to Donna again this year.

Except for the apples.
After Bill's shower, we bided our time until 5:30 when we drove into Robin's. It isn't far down Hwy 4, about 5 minutes away. Her and Andrew have invited us for dinner and a visit before we leave. That will be nice since we've never done that, it is always work related when we meet. 😄

Clear sky meaning another cool night.
It was a lovely dinner and a fun evening. Robin had baked pork chops in mushroom soup, whipped potatoes, corn, devilled eggs and an array of condiments (pickles, beets etc.). The pork chops were so tender, I was envious of her baking skill. I took our French apple pie for dessert and she served it warm with ice cream.

It was a delicious meal
Mildred entertained us, the little pip, so we laughed a lot at her and their many stories of the joys of the housing business. We had goodbye hugs and were on our way home to Gibbs by 8. A great evening for sure. I'll miss my dealings with Robin as well.
This was a great last day, tidying things up. After an episode of 9-1-1 (which I don't care if I continue to watch anymore), we watched episode 6 of The Voice and went to bed.
It gets taken away from her when she continually does inappropriate things to it. Turn your volume up and you can hear her pleads to get it back. She is such a little conniver.
Thank you for your visit as well! We're pulling up jacks tomorrow, time to move a bit.

That's funny, we said the same thing after watching 9-1-1 this week!
ReplyDeleteIt just seems too fake now.
DeleteSafe travels across the US and hugs to Gibbs.

Thank you!
DeleteSounds like you’re all ready, have a safe drive. Tell Bill to include good maps in his reports!
