Lady Fest Day 3 - Bowling Not for Dollars

On Wednesday, Sept. 10th I woke up early again but had no clue what time because I refused to look. I rolled over and went back to sleep until almost 7 o'clock. I felt great, rested and ready to go for another day.

Downstairs, Audrey was doing her blocking exercises, so I went about making my hot drink and finishing my blog. Donna and Gayle weren't far behind me, getting up and we just hung around with our morning routines.

The Scrabble game continued, in turns, and after showers and saunas, we left the condo. It was around 10:45 when we drove back into Collingwood and parked on Hurontario Street (main street) to look for a restaurant. MEK (Morning Egg Koffee) was another great choice.

It was a great meal! From there, we walked the strip searching for a thrift store. We found a great little store called Heart's Desire with 'everything' farm related and we loved it and the 3 female staff were terrific.

down the side row so perfect for their set up.

In case you aren't regulars of these stores, a consignment store is not the same thing. At least in Collingwood, they are 'curated consignments' and that means only the best clothing items are brought in. That means big $$, way out of our price league.

After walking for a couple of hours, we found no other viable second hand shops but did manage to find a couple of places that were fun, interesting and we walked away with a few nice things. Our next 'adventure' was to go bowling.

We arrived at Georgian Bowl on Hurontario St. just on time for our appointment. From 2:30 to 4 pm, we played 2 1/2 games and I, for one, really enjoyed it. The girls couldn't figure out the electronic scoring but I was very thankful for it and continued to explain it. 😄

We did a bit more driving around looking for places to shop but ended up returning to our condo. It was too soon to find a restaurant anyway. Back home, we decided to split up the leftovers from our meals out and what we brought from home.

Gayle was the victor.

We sat on the patio in the sun for a bit with a glass of wine and around 6:30 we reheated our meal. It was just the right amount for our supper meal. We debated on playing a game and while a discussion went on, I worked on my blog. 

This was a quieter day for us, with a few new to us articles of clothing. We reached a high of 24C/76F and it was another perfect day.

Day Three in Bayfield, Birthday Boy

On Wed. Sept. 11^th I slept in. I know I woke up early and it was still dark out so I rolled over and went back to sleep. It was quite warm in the bedroom so I had to remove the duvet. Next thing I knew, it was 7:45 and I’ve never slept that late – well, not for a while. It was around 11:30 pm when we all said goodnight so that is my excuse. 😊

Our day started off with some brain teasing.

I joined Audrey, Gayle and Donna downstairs (we had the upstairs bedrooms) and Cathy soon came out of her downstairs room. It is quite quiet and today we didn’t have anything pre-planned so we found it even more relaxing. Brunch is always on the agenda but not until 10:30 or later so we have our morning brew and nibble (banana and yogourt for me) earlier. We played our Scrabble game and worked on the large crossword until it was time to go.

Today, the Renegade restaurant was open so we took a recommendation from The Bayfield Bunch to try it. We were able to walk the 3 minutes to the venue from the Kew Cottage bnb. 😊 The best news was to see that Eggs Benedict was on the menu and boy, oh, boy, was it delicious. 4 out of 5 of us ordered it with the Renegade Spuds (thinly sliced potatoes), a definite must! Let me just say, our plates were almost licked clean. Almost, that would have been unacceptable in a public place! Ha ha. Thank you, Al and Kelly, for the tip!

Back ‘home’ we continued with the games and moved to the side deck to enjoy the warmth of the day. It was beautiful! Around 3, we decided to check out the Bayfield Berry & Winery on Orchard Line. Although it wasn’t a typical winery, not like we are used to, we chatted with the pleasant staff and everyone purchased something to take away. She was kind enough to oblige our request for a picture with the pumpkins before we left for home.

A wine to share

Audrey popped into the LCBO and bought a bottle of wine to share and it was quite tasty. Dry is not my choice and this Kim Crawford Sauvignon is perfect. It was time for some goofy photos so I set up my Canon on the tripod and let it snap away. I’m only sharing one (or two) here, the others are just too silly. ♥ By 6:30, we were ready for supper so walked back to the Renegade and took advantage of their delicious meals.

I had the small Deluxe pizza and it was wonderful! I ate the whole thing! After walking back, Gayle and I walked straight down Cameron towards the water, as far as we could go without going down the narrow trail. It was just too steep in the dark! I called Bill when I returned and worked on my blog and the games until bedtime. 😊

It has been another great day! We reached a high of 25C/78F under clear skies again. Perfect!

My son, Patrick, is celebrating his 45^th birthday today so I made

Day Three, On the Road Again

Thursday, Apr. 14^th we slept until 7. Gibbs likely wouldn’t have moved if I hadn’t and therefore Bill likely wouldn’t have moved if Gibbs hadn’t. 😊 I was surprised we slept that late. In the scheme of things, actually, I shouldn’t have been surprised. It was 11 when Gibbs and I went to bed, so that was late for us. I knew Bill would have a rough sleep, he hardly ever sleeps great but this would be worse since we had a noisy transport beside us.

I made the mistake of looking out my bedroom window and the truck driver beside us was parked so close to our slide-out, that I freaked and envisioned all kinds of horrible things when he pulled out in the morning. Plus, he ran all night long. Bill said there was only about 6” between us. With ear plugs in, I finally put my mind at ease, being tired helped, and dropped off.

Bill told me this morning that the trucker pulled out between 4:30 and 6 so I was relieved we were still all in one piece. 😊 That’s the closest anyone has ever been to us. The day is dawning bright and beautiful so all things are good. We had our cereal and I made my tea with the kettle. John made a coffee for Bill and we got the fridge straightened around for the day’s travel.

When I read that our friend, Lori, has been a month without their fridge I felt like such a wimp. A week for us and we’re ready to give up! So, we hit the road at 8:20 and it seemed like we were hitting wind as our fuel dropped quickly. We stopped to fuel up at 8:50 at a Conoco. $4.69/gal.  The drive was pretty low key with the exception of the winds.

Coming onto our north side or our front corner, the winds may have had an effect on our fuel mileage overall but they weren’t jostling us at all. At noon we stopped at a Phillips 66 travel station near Canadian, OK for fill ups and ate our lunch. It was a nice 45-minute break and the weather reached 66F/19C. No discounts for our nationality though. 😊 Back on the road before 1 with Bill in the lead this time.

Our destination for today is another 3-hour drive. We made no other stops, just motoring through the panhandle of Texas and crossing into Oklahoma! The drive was a good one and we withstood the numerous bouts of construction through the last of Texas and near Oklahoma City. It is to be expected, we can count the number of times we travelled with NO construction on 1 or 2 fingers. 😊

Arrival time at the Cherokee Casino & Grill, Roland, Ok was 5 o’clock. I think we’ve made a trend here. We travelled about 410 miles today and we were tired when we arrived. This casino just off I-40, Exit 326 onto Hwy 64 and nestled close to the Arkansas border. It has 5 free full hookup spots at the back of their lot for first come, first served. Bill and I have stayed here once before with Rob and Pat and it looks improved since then with nice wide spaces.

We arrived at a good time because 2 more 5^th wheels came in after us. 😊 When the discussion came up about casino food and should we eat out again, the consensus was ‘heck yah!’ For a reasonable $14.99/pp we got an all you can eat supper and it was very good. Tomorrow night, I have to cook! LOL We said goodnight around 7 and settled in for the evening.
