Ptooties, Shopping, Lining Things Up

The Ridge

On Friday, April 11th, we had a somewhat busy day planned.  I slept until 7:30 and that felt good. We woke up to a new covering of snow, crap! We had our breakfast together and after a bit of cleanup we drove to Murray's to pick up Ptooties.

I've missed my wheels and always relish in the freedom I get when she is out of storage. 😁 Murray has sold his farm so we will need to be looking for a new storage facility next winter. We'll pick up Jazz once the weather warms up a bit.

We parted ways from there and I drove in to Hanover to check on my laptop, pop into the BMO for M and then get groceries.  Our list was long! Bottom line in my laptop is that it is toast. It's my own fault and we both expected it.

So, I picked one at Healthy Computers, I called it Superior Computers yesterday by mistake, and left Adam to transfer data from my old hard drive.  Yay, my pictures will be saved. He is also backing everything up on my external hard drive for me too.

Groceries were not bad and we are now fully stocked on meat for many meals. It was around 1 when I returned home and we were both hungry for lunch. Walmart here doesn't carry any of the keto bread that I can get in the states, bummer, so I will be cutting back on sandwiches again. 😉

Bill had his own errands when he returned ahead of me. He stopped in town to pick up our Catch the Ace tickets and to chat with Jay at Impact Tire. The afternoon turned cloudy after a beautiful sunny morning. Just a few murre days, we hope. 

Things are happening here for me. Robin needs me to clean the air bnb tomorrow, I'll clean the Mat Monday and help M out with some paperwork as well. Cash flow again! Yay! That will help with my laptop expenditure. 

Lunch was late and so will supper be. We went to the Curling Club for 6 on to watch the draw with fingers crossed.  We've been buying a ticket each week for Catch the Ace, it's a chance for some $$ and supports the local Lions Club.😁 It is a good social outing too.

No luck tonight but we had a nice hour out and met a few more locals. Fish and chips for supper and a quiet evening at home. Supper was very good and I even pigged out on the fries. The heavy clouds seemed to be lowering the boom on the horizon tonight but it made for a pretty picture. We had a great day, taking strides in getting settled in. We reached 6C/43F at today's peak and it was a good day for doing what we needed.

A Good Reason to Leave, Ptooties Gets a Rest, Special Visit

On Monday, Oct. 16^th what a miserable day we woke up to – again. Bill was downstairs after 6 and only Gibbs rejoined me upstairs again. I watched 3 episodes of Justified last night and felt tired so got up to go to bed around 10. I felt a dizzy spell that lasted for about 10 minutes and it cleared after that. I drank lots of water before crawling into bed although I tossed and turned for a couple of hours before dropping off. This morning, thank heavens, I’m fine. 😊

Bill was taking Black Beauty to Grey Bruce Fleet to get a fuel filter installed as well as getting her tires checked and filled to pulling levels. He did the tires on the Suite on the last nice day we had so they are good to go. Amazing how those levels drop when she sits, even up on platforms. So, I sorted laundry and drove to the Mat. This will be our last opportunity to do that until we get to Quartzsite. Not that we don’t have enough clothes to get us through!

When Bill was finished at the shop, he went to his flying field to do some measuring for something he wants to do at the Q field and then we met at Murray’s off Grey Road 3. We left Ptooties in good hands and drove home. One more thing taken care of. Back home, we put the clothes away, rested, had lunch and then he loaded a propane tank. Yes, it is almost as if we are drinking it in this cold weather!

One good reason to get the heck outta Dodge, er, Durham! At 1:30 we headed in to town for a few things. First off, a visit with our buddies, Rob and Pat. We haven’t seen them much this summer as we have all been busy so a nice cup of tea with these good friends was a necessity. Never, ever do we have anything but a great time. Gibbs and Bella reunited and chased, rested, chased, rested while we watched the entertainment. ♥

Too soon but it was time to say goodbye until spring. We sure wish they were tagging along! ☹ From there, we stopped at FS Wellington Co-op to get a 40-lb. propane tank filled. Nice that the young chap lifts it up into the back of the truck for Bill. Lastly, we drove to the Water Store for a 5-gallon fill up and to say goodbye to Mark.

We’ve recently just learned that Impact Tire, the couple that helped me with Ptooties’ valve stem a while back, has moved into this building. That’s perfect since Bill wanted to meet Jay and Jackie and to talk about new back tires for Black Beauty in the spring. Now, with that lined up, we headed home. The day just hasn’t gotten any better as far as temperatures so I’m glad we had no outside stuff left to do.

I’d had a tea with Pat but decided to have one more here at home while Bill and Gibbs dozed and I read my book. This one is called The Fine Art of Insincerity by Angela Elwell Hunt. 😊 For supper, we had fish and chips as I have frozen fish filets from Vietnam (!) that are ‘really’ not eligible to cross the border. I like to follow the food rules as much as possible, who needs a hassle? We had apple sauce and whipped cream for dessert. 

Supper was good.

Two more errands tomorrow and we’re done with running around. We’ve reached a whole 7C/46F today and heard that it will be even warmer tomorrow with a peek of sunshine. I don’t want to count any chickens here but Wednesday, departure day, looks like a whopping 14C/56F with more sun. Won’t that will be nice? An evening of watching some episodes of The Voice is great for calming us down. I hope I sleep better tonight, I think perhaps excitement is creeping in! Another good day, more things taken care of.

Summer Days, Geese Return, Ptooties Health Check

The Ridge

Monday, June 22^nd we’ve moved into summer and it really does feel like it! Bill was up shortly after 6. I glanced at the clock and thought ‘ah, no work this morning so I can stay here’. At 6:45 he was waking me up as we were dropping Ptooties off for an oil change and safety check over. Woops! I forgot! I didn’t feel very awake as I drove her following Bill to Pletsch’s service shop.

Bill drove Black Beauty to Walkerton and I drove home. We remembered that it is garbage day so when I returned home at 8:20, I hiked the 2 bins and garbage bag down to the roadside. Then I should have walked as I’ve missed a few days but I preferred having a tea instead. For some reason, maybe the weird wake up, I felt tired and hungry. I had my cuppa and a bowl of Shreddies and cream. That only made me feel more tired so I stretched out on the couch like an old potato.

Obviously, I needed that as I dropped off for an hour before forcing myself to get up. There was a nice breeze coming in the windows so I opted to leave them open rather than turning the bedroom a/c on. I was comfortable.

It was a day for vacuuming and even more with the little tiny bits of evidence of a small visitor. 😊 You realize how ‘child proof’ your place is NOT when such a young fella visits. He kept everyone hopping, “No, Easton”, “don’t touch that”, “sit on your bum”.

Then I went outside and after getting some sage advice from Pat, I finished sewing Bill’s knee patch. That worked much better and didn’t need to do it by hand after all. It sure doesn’t look pretty but he didn’t marry me for my sewing skills. Ha ha. I didn’t have anything else to sew so packed the sewing stuff up and got my small craft glue gun out for another project.

The cacti, I think there were 5, that we brought home from Lake Havasu Flea Market in the December of 2018/19 have died. They were doing so well; one had grown babies and everything. We love the pot and the little Arizona sign and roadrunner so at least it wasn’t a total loss. Today, I removed the last of the dead remains and replaced them with my own cactus. What do you think?

Then, I decided to paint our patio table. So, after wiping it down I set to work. I love the new look and it will fit in nicely with our Adirondack chairs. I felt a few drops of rain so moved the table under the Suite’s nose cap. By this time, I needed to close things up and get ready to go pick Bill up from work. The car’s oil change was done and some service on the brakes was necessary (not replacement, at least). I dropped Bill at Pletsch’s on the way home and he paid and brought Ptooties home.

We have been talking about how the geese have all disappeared and yet it didn’t seem the babies were full grown enough to fly yet. As I drove in the lane, the geese were ALL gathered up at the base of the corral hill. I drove really slow but couldn’t get close enough to get a good picture. The babies now have feathers like their parents so were sure they’ll be gone in no time.

There was also a mama turtle in the middle of the lane so I slowed down trying not to scare her. Bill had caught up and was right behind me. Apparently, the truck spooked her and as I crept along, she moved and almost got squished. Oh my God! I would feel sick if that happened. She made it safely across and her life will go on, trying to find that perfect spot to lay her eggs. There are so many of them!

Supper was delicious!

It was neat to see the geese anyway. Inside, I had a cup of tea and mixed up the ingredients for a meat loaf for supper. I set 2 whole potatoes on top in foil and cooked some spaghetti squash for me and corn for him in the microwave. It was a yummy supper. I could feel the air cooling down outside very slightly from 26C/79F but not by much. There was no breeze today which didn’t help matters. It will be a nice night for sleeping around 17C/63F.

After dishes, we just relaxed in front of the tv. I took a walk down the lane to try and get a picture of the geese just in case they came back. This was a great day without a lot of activity.

Duvet Night, Ptooties Returns, Winter Reservations, Tidying Up the Ridge, Visit Cancelled

When I woke up on Wednesday, Sept. 19^th I was snuggled down in the covers and noticed cooler air in the Suite. Bill let Clemson out at 5:30 and they both crawled back under the covers. I heard Bill trying to be very quiet as he slipped out of bed around 6:30 and thought I would be able to drop off again. Nope, so I got up just before 7.

Because I felt a bit chilled, I slipped my fluorescent t-shirt on with a jacket overtop and pushed myself to go for a walk. It was the only way I’d get warmed up the quickest. The air was still with no breeze this morning and it was registering 54F on the outside thermometer. The walk was lovely although I had to keep tucking my hands up in my sleeves to warm my fingertips.

I’m glad I went because my coat was undone by the time I returned and it had done the trick. I made my tea and sat with Bill while we drank our brews and talked about our daily plans. We needed gas for the riding mower as the grass needed to be cut. Bill took the Mercedes into town to do that and immediately went out to cut the front field first.

We were expecting a phone call from our friends, Jeff and Joan, regarding their visit tomorrow so didn’t want to miss that. With a couple of things going on, mainly the weather, we believe we are going to have to cancel. That is the big issue with company wanting to come in September. Seems like there is another leak in the line between the cold water and the hot water tank so we need have that looked after too. We’ll see what Marshall thinks when he arrives.

Bill finished out front and came back before 10 and replaced the cupboard latches that he picked up at Can Am while he was there. All fixed up and ready for the next round of bumpy interstate roads. We made ourselves a coffee and waited for the phone call. When Jeff phoned around 10:20 we all agreed that the weather over the next few days was not conducive to visiting and cancelled it for this year. It is too bad but that is what September does.

It was around 10:30 when Marshall drove in with the Rav4 and we chatted for half hour or so and he was on his way back to London. Thanks Marshall for bring Ptooties home! Inside Bill communicated with Nicole at Can Am about last night’s adventure and then went out to cut the back field. I brushed my teeth and went out to cut some of the grass on the hill too before lunch.

It was 60f and the sun was beautiful. I got part way done and decided to stop to make us something to eat. It was already 12 noon so I fried up an egg omelette on toasted buns and we went back out to finish the jobs. I managed to get another month of pictures sorted before Bill came in for a snooze. I took our California Duster and brushed the Rav down, removing 90% of the visible dirt. It looks so much better.

At 3:30 we took Clemson’s food, a couple of green apples and some Caramel Dip, our laptops, travel folders and drove in to Rob and Pat’s one more time. We got right to it when we arrived and booked the membership parks that we know we want to stop at. There are ‘bookdocking’ sites in between where flexibility allows for the unknown. Once we’d gone as far as we could go, it was time to pack things up and order supper.

Today, Bill and I chose New Orlean’s Pizza and picked it up to bring back to the house. Pat and I shared some Spumanti Bambino wine, which I haven’t had since I was in my mid 20’s, and it was nice for a change. Clemson moved from one couch to the other, undecided which was more comfortable.

It was after 7:30 when we said goodbye and came home to watch the America’s Got Talent finale. The winner was one of my/our original 3 choices so we were pleased.

I went up to bed with Clemmy around 10 and dropped off pretty quickly.  It was a good day all around. We managed to get our grass cut on the property and things are looking nifty again. We made some confirmed bookings for the winter with our travel friends and we finalized about the visit for today, which is a concern off our minds too.
