All is Well, Fun at the Auction

On Wednesday, Apr. 9th I was up before 7. Bill asked Gibbs when we came downstairs if he got Mom up early. But, no, it was me who woke him up to get started on our day. 😊 We'd left the furnace on last night in the hopes of warming up the basement and the water tank. That was out of the norm, so it was warmer upstairs than we're used to. Regardless, we both slept well and then Bill informed me that the water still was not yet flowing.

We had our breakfast, checked the weather forecast for the day and basically watched the snow disappear. Yay! It was a cold night again, -9C/16F, but today would be about 10° warmer than yesterday and that in itself was a bonus! Another bonus was being up before the sun rose so I got a few pictures (too many!) of the sunrise. First one on the Ridge this year. 😍

Bill went to town to get a bottle of propane filled and 2 bottles of drinking water. When he returned, he got the mailbox out of the Bunky and set it up for mail delivery. What did I do? Well, mostly I stayed inside and did nothing. Bill didn't need help outside and there wasn't much to do indoors. Reading was the order of my morning. Being lazy. I bundled up and went out for a walk down the lane with Gibbs before coming in for my mid morning coffee.

Since the snow was disappearing, Bill went out to check the water bladder in the back of BB and the ice that had formed yesterday was still there. Ingenious as he is, his plan of heating it with our electric heater didn't quite do the job. It helped but there was a still a chunk of ice inside. We were able to get some water out of the bladder, enough to fill a couple of pails to bring inside for flushing the toilet and heating to wash with.

The best news of the day was when Bill flipped the kitchen tap on and water came out! That meant we were home free since that was our last really, really cold night! We still chose to use up the water he brought in but remained diligent with checking the tap every so often to keep the flow going. 😌 What a blessing!

Lunch was grilled cheese and then we left Gibbs in charge and took a drive for a couple of errands. First to Priceville post office to start mail service again, second to Foodland in Durham for a loaf of bread and some lottery tickets, third to 6 & 6 Auction site on Hwy 6. The online auction runs from Monday to Friday and we wanted to take a gander around at a few of the items offered. It is always fun to see things in person and we weren't the only ones! It was quite busy.

Back home, Bill snoozed upstairs, Gibbs snoozed downstairs in my recliner while I curled up in Bill's recliner and read chapter after chapter of my book. It is so good and I'm so close to the last page! For supper, I fried our bacon, cheeseburgers and warmed the buns. On the side, we finished up the last of the salad (a lot of 'lasts' this week for sure!) and it was a very tasty, filling meal. I can't take the honoured name of Burger Queen here in the household, but my burgers were very good too! 💕

Bill cleaned up the fry pan and metal utensils while I started my blog. Tonight is Survivor and we'll share that entertainment together. The competitive 'games' always have us on the edge of our seat and the Tribal Council has us biting our nails in suspense. I wonder who will go home tonight!?

Today has been a bit windy and there have been a few flurries but nothing that remained on the ground. We reached a better high of 1.6C/34F so above freezing at least. It was a good day!

Two Walks, One Pleasure Drive, Great to be Outside

On Thursday, Mar. 11^th there is one little boy who turns 2 today. We weren’t able to see Easton William today but we were thinking of him. He is having a small birthday party in another week and a bit so will get our hugs in then. 😊 Bill was off to work at his regular time and I was up, washed, dressed and out the door within 45 minutes.

It is already, or should I say ‘still’, a lovely mild 11C/54F so I’m not missing a beat. The house downstairs was quiet, although I know they were ‘up’, so I left as quietly as I could. Wes came out into the garage as I was putting on my ‘new to me’ white runners from Value Village. No boots today, the sidewalks were bare! Yay! I only wore my hoody with the wind breaker that I wore late summer and spring last year. I was plenty warm too with a light scarf around my neck.

I could see that the sun had already made an appearance in the eastern sky but hoped, as I walked, that it didn’t disappear too quickly behind the clouds. We’d heard a mixed forecast, could be lots of rain, could be clouds, could be sun. Typical Ontario forecast. I made my way south down the main street and detoured to the east following my nose onto the back streets. I was taking the right turns as I had a couple of conversations with dog owners.

They were friendly and obliged when I asked if I could take pictures of their pooches. Oh, the pang I feel when the little mutts are friendly and come to me. 😊 I extended the walk as much as I could until I felt a drop or two of rain and hastened my step towards home. The sun was losing the battle. By the time I reached the house, I had my hood up but it didn’t amount to much at all and had quit soon after.

No worries, I got 2 miles in. Back home, I had my tea and came upstairs to read our friends’ blogs to see what everyone is up to. Some spread across the southern state of Arizona, some in Nevada and others in California make us envious of their surroundings and weather. Others closer to home, Oregon and some in Canadian provinces and/or northern Ontario. The latter are experiencing some of the same weather we are, just earlier or later.

I went downstairs at 11 and the landlords had gone out. On a nice day like this, I didn’t blame them one bit. I made a batch of steel cut oatmeal in Madame IP, it is so easy, and had a small portion for breakfast – oops – lunch. At 11:30 I decided to hop in Ptooties and go for a drive myself. I followed B.C. Rd 3 to Conc. 8 to the corner of B.C. Rd 10 where BizyBee Auctions is located. The auction ended last night with me coming out on top for my 6 items.

I had no more than a 5-minute wait and loaded the goodies in the car. Some framed pictures, 3 of which where the reason I bid (they come in lots sometimes), a new insulated lunch bag, some piggy banks for the youngest grands (just in time) and an interesting lamp. Since I was that far from home, which is only 20 minutes, I drove north through Elmwood, just for fun. When I saw the ball park, I stopped for pictures. 😊

Back home again, I began making chili for supper. Madame IP was getting used today after a bit of a break again. Once we are back in our Suite, she will get used a lot more. At one point today, I got my little DirtDevil vac out and did our floors. With tonight’s supper prepared, I slipped out to the garage to get the new puzzle sorted from border pieces but I didn’t get much further than that as it was too hot out there to do anything. With a headache in the works, I came up to our room and laid down for half hour.

The sun was making more and more appearances so I got up after Bill texted that he would be late tonight and went for another walk. I wore my ‘new’ laundromat jacket this time and since the wind had picked up considerably since this morning, it was perfect. It was another great walk and I met one of the same men I’d met this morning. He started work at the real estate office across the street. We chatted for a few minutes and then I walked across the bridge.

Am I ever glad I came back out today. Well, the pictures speak for themselves. I met a lovely young lady with her Goldie/Shepherd and we ended up walking together along the trail (she calls it the dyke) and chatting the whole time. It was a really nice walk even though both of us had to brace ourselves several times against the strong, really strong wind gusts. My goodness, it was blowing us both around. 😊

When I came back, I grabbed my book and sunglasses and sat on the front porch bench until the sun lowered itself behind the building across the street. The temperature changed by a couple of degrees and I came inside to wait for my working man. It was 5:30 when he was on his way so I went down to unlock the door. W &/or S must have been outside, the door wasn't closed tight I hoped they’d leave it open when they came in. I stirred the chili and came back upstairs. Bill got home before 6.

Around 6:30, we each heated up a bowl and toasted a couple of slices of bread. It was good. I think each time I make it now, it is different. I didn’t use tomatoes this time, Bill isn’t fond of them so I usually only use them every other batch. This time, I used tomato paste, didn’t have sauce, but it was nice and thick and quite good! There will be leftovers for a couple more nights. We finished the meal with a cupcake.

Upstairs, I worked on my blog and listened to see if they were watching Jeopardy. If not, I’ll stay put and read more of my book. It is good and although a murder mystery, different from other detective stories I’ve read. This was a great day, I took full advantage of the day off and don’t feel that I wasted a minute by just sitting around. And it was all for ‘me’! 😊 Aren’t those types of days wonderful? You know the ones I’m talking about.

Hump Day, More Cash in my Pocket, Auction Deals

On Wednesday, Feb. 24^th I watched out the window to see Bill leave. It was just after 6:30. Then I got washed, made the bed and got dressed. Maybe not in that order. 😊 After my tea, I, too, took my lunch goodies (banana, cheese, pepperoni and coffee) and pulled out of the lane. My time was 7:50, a bit earlier than normal with no car to clean off. Yay! The weather Gods were good to us overnight.

The roads were not a worry today

What a difference in a day of driving today. The main roads were bare and mostly dry. Bill suggested not to take the Concession 8 road since they came across someone who hit an icy patch and went over into the ditch. They saw headlights so knew it had just happened and stopped to help the young man until the police arrived. Bill and the policeman's guess was speed. Nevertheless, I was happy for the warning and happy to stick to the highway!

I arrived at the Mat before 9 and set to work. Two customers, one friendly, one not acknowledging anything (?), but they weren't in my way at all. I was out of there by 10. The toilet was the only disappointment today, good grief, someone was up to no good. Thank goodness, I only found t.p. (no shortage here!) at the bottom of the clump. Sorry for that visual but I like to share! 😊

Mitch had texted last night asking if I could and would possibly work 5 hours today instead of 4. He wanted to get the Dodge ready for priming on Thursday so it would be a job of taping and papering. It doesn’t sound difficult (and it isn't) but doing the detailed taping on the doors of the words takes time and precision. I’m happy to say that I’ve become better at it and it doesn’t take me as long as it did on a couple of previous vehicles. I finished RAM 1500 on each door first.

Then, I covered the front bumper and the wheel wells at the front. They are plastic so we don’t want to paint under there. Fred, the owner, was in this morning when I arrived at 10 and was pleased with what we’d done so far. When I entered, Mitch said, “Here’s the boss now, I’d better get to work!”. Funny guy. So, I set to work and carried on until 3. From the front doors forward, everything is ready to prime. He now calls me his Assistant Manager. 👀

Weather permitting, I’ll finish sanding the back passenger door, covering the window and work on the tailgate letters on Friday. The drive home was pretty normal and uneventful. It was slowed down a bit by a driver that I almost would swear on that he was impaired, his speed between 90 and 60 kph all the time I was behind him. Overreacting to things was another questionable trait so I kept my distance and took a different route home than I would have when he turned.

Also, the school bus on #19 slowed me down but it was clear sailing the rest of the way. I was home by 3. I did the dishes and Bill and I chatted on text a bit about the horses on the back road. All of the Clydesdales were out along the fence but I couldn’t stop. It would have been a great photo! Oh well, hopefully I’ll see them again. He reported later that they weren’t out when he came by 30 minutes later. ☹ He was going to try and get that picture for me.

For supper tonight we had mini sausages, potatoes and creamed corn. How does anyone serve it without it spreading across the whole plate? Ha ha, no matter, we both like it. During the prep, I was bidding on the BizyBee auction again so didn’t stray too far from my phone. It is all just for fun, nothing imperative but neat if I win something too.  We had our last piece of cheesecake for dessert and did the dishes together.

Upstairs, I skipped Jeopardy since a few auction items were closing but I caught the last few seconds to see that the fellow from Toronto, Canada won for the second night. Yay! The auction items do not all close at the same time which is kind of nice, giving bidders an opportunity to keep an eye on more than one item. The rest of the evening was quiet after a good, fulfilling day. More cash in my pocket! Yeah, seems I'm spending it pretty quickly too! 😊
