A Fun Filled Sunday with Friends and Surprise Neighbours

On Sunday, Apr. 2^nd, I first woke up and was confused when I looked out the window and didn't see Rich and Jonnies 5th wheel. 😌 We (Bill mostly) had a bit of a rough start after yesterday’s fiasco. He didn’t sleep well at all, catching about 4 hours of sleep – maybe. He woke up worried about whether he’d locked the truck when we left yesterday and since he couldn’t recall, I suggested he call Danny. Danny is the fellow who gave us his personal cell number with ‘if you need anything, call me and I’ll do what I can’.

Okay, we needed to get in touch so Bill sent him a text at 7:15 am. He was obviously up and responded immediately that he would drive to the dealership and make sure Black Beauty was vaulted up. 😊 Within 20 minutes, he responded that all was taken care of. What a nice guy. Bill rested easy for the remainder of the day and after our morning routine of breakfast,  I took Gibbs for a walk.

There is a dog park here now, and there wasn’t the last time we were here, so we visited and so did Trace and his ‘Dad’. Gibbs let him know who was the boss and to keep his distance from his butt and his Mama. It was too cute, both were friendly pups. 

Back home, I had my shower and at 11:30, Deb and Tom pulled up out front for the drive to Tombstone. We so appreciate them and putting everything else behind us, we had a really fun time.

We walked the strip, I found a pair of really cute earrings and a dream catcher charm before we walked into Big Nose Kate’s Saloon for lunch. It has been a while since we’ve been here, but when Suzie suggested I have a Reuben for her and George ♥, I opted to have a Calzone instead. I knew I’d have leftovers but it was delicious. Bill and I each had a Sarsaparilla. 😊

We had to walk off lunch so we all walked up and down, in and out of a few ‘dreaming-type’ stores with many lovely ‘we don’t have room for it’ things. We did agree on picked up our own baby cacti and vowed to try hard keeping them alive! We had a great time, lots of laughs and made sure to get one of Deb’s popular selfies together. I can never get them right but she can!

Back home to Gibbs for a short time before we walked over to their site with our chairs and a cooler bag. No hard liquor for us today, we had no sorrows to drown on this Sunday. Deb and Riley had arrived while we were all gone and with all of us together for Happy Hour, the laughter never stopped. Our cheeks are sore from laughing so hard. Oh, the stories! It was great fun and we returned home by 6.

I took Gibbs for a walk around our end of the park and when I returned home, I heard “Pat?” It was Diane and her husband from Pilot Knob RV park, parked right beside us! What a coincidence that is. We missed seeing them this winter so we caught up on how things are in that park. Since she was one of the ladies I learned to play Ladies Poker Pool from, I told her about starting up a new one. 😊 She was thrilled.

We’ll see them tomorrow before we all leave (I’m being positive here) on Tuesday for our next destination. Weather permitting, of course. We didn’t think we’d need supper tonight but I did warm up the last of my calzone and Bill made a sandwich. We were feeling a bit of a nosh and now was the time to satisfy it.

After turning the dishwasher on, I sat with my blog and Bill sat with his book. He’s desperately trying to hold his book up to read but is failing badly. He’s tired from his rough night’s sleep. ♥

A Fun-Filled Father’s Day Here with Some Surprises, Easton Overload

The Ridge

Sunday, June 21^st arrived on a roller coaster of the heat wave blanketing the area. I can only speak for our area today, but it was a continuation of what we’ve experienced for the last 3 days. Hot, hot and more hot. No complaints although it is sending us to shade and into a/c where possible more than we like. There will be relief coming this week and I think we’re ready but what a great way to welcome the Summer season! Now, where’s the pool?

Bill was up before me and had taken his coffee outside on the patio. I saw him when I opened the blind. I’d had a restless night, at least I know that going to bed at 11:30 did me no good since I was still tossing and turning at 1 am. Therefore, 6 o’clock was way too early for this gal! It was around 7 when I got up and Bill and I sorted two loads of laundry. At least with him working every day, our laundry gets done on a more regular schedule.

I left soon after and I believe Bill hopped on the rider and went down the lane to the front field. Only one patron in the Mat today, the fellow from the Crazy Dollar. The place looked quite tidy so I emptied the garbage, wiped the machines down, cleaned the washroom and swept the floor within record time. It was a bit over the half hour but I was still only going to report 30 minutes to Jamie today. I lightly folded our loads into the basket and left.

Unknown to Bill, we were having company for supper and I knew that he would be pleasantly surprised to see his youngest daughter, her husband and our youngest grandson. This meant I had to come up with something for supper. After hearing that the day wasn’t going to be a write off as far as rain, I stopped at Foodland and picked up some Leadbetter’s Cowboy burgers. Back home, I saw that the front field was cut and Bill had moved to the back. He waved indicating that he saw me return.

Grandparents again!

I hung our clothes on the newly stabilized clothesline and it is so much better now. We turned the bedroom a/c on and closed the windows as we knew it would be a hot one again. After the grass was cut, I suggested Bill not bother doing the weed trimming and he went upstairs for a snooze instead. He had any night of the week when it would be cooler to catch up on yard maintenance.

While he was sleeping, I got out my yellow and brown paints to touch up my sunflower. It travels all winter with us and gets set up everywhere we ‘land’ for the night so no surprise it is pretty washed out. It looks so much better now. Bill came out a bit later and before he went down to the Hangar I cut his hair on the patio. I had a better idea of how to cut the back so went at it and we are very happy with the results. He said I may be saving him $15 if I continue to do it for him. I think the money should go in MY pocket! 😊

At 2:45 Jamie drove in. He was here to pay me for my work so far and it was nice to see him, Cheryl and Aaron. Bill missed seeing him drive in and even 5 minutes later when Jess, Matt and Easton drove up. I had to phone him to tell him we had company. It was a short visit with Jamie, unfortunate timing but he also had some Father’s Day plans to attend to.

We had a lovely visit with the kids, Easton was the constant entertainment. The best part is what his t-shirt said. You read it and see why we were so thrilled!  Yay! Another grandbaby! Easton is such a joy to watch and watch his Grandpa playing with him. I often say that I take way too many pictures of sunsets, mountains or critters but I don’t think there is such a thing as ‘way too many’ of our grandchildren.

I’d asked if they could pick up a DQ ice cream cake for supper. We’d seen them advertised and they peaked my interest. Unfortunately, the only one they came across was 25 minutes away so you can imagine the condition it was in when it arrived. To make matters worse, they only had a sheet cake left and Jess didn’t realize that was what the lady said (through her mask) so after having Happy Father’s Day written on it, they felt obligated to take it. LOL

Needless to say, our afternoon snack (or early dessert) was ice cream cake, in bowls! It wouldn’t fit in either of my freezers until after we had some of the soft melting edge pieces and then I was able to cut it and put it the Bunky freezer. It tasted delicious and it was a good laugh and a wonderful memory. We had our burgers and potato salad that I’d made around 5:30 and they left around 7 or 7:30. They live in Stratford so about an hour and a half away.

I loaded the dishes in the dishwasher and will run it Monday when it is full. We had a quiet night but again I was too tired to finish my post. What a great day!

I hope all you Dads also had a wonderful day! By the end of the day, Bill had heard from all of his daughters. My kids dropped the ball for some reason or another but he is totally understanding about it. I hope they pick up the phone this week sometime though.

Calm Sunny Day, Temperatures Rising, Friends Leave and Arrive, Surprised!

It was 5:30 when I first woke up, checked the time and rolled over to go back to sleep. Which I did. At 6:50, I stretched the old muscles and rose. Getting dressed in the dark used to be a challenge but now I know how to lay my clothes out the night before and I ‘feel’ my way through the socks, pants, bra, top then slippers. The hardest part is feeling for the back and front of tops and bottoms. I’m getting pretty good at it!

 Clemson came downstairs before I got out the door so I took him out so Bill didn’t have to get up. We came back in and one of us a dirty bum and it wasn’t me so I lifted him into the sink and he got an early morning bath. He is such a good little guy as if he knows he’ll feel better after I’m done. Doing this by myself, Bill and I both realized that this is the way we’ll try trimming him a little bit. He needs a haircut so badly but with the cooler days, we weren’t in a rush to get him done.

Over tea and coffee, Bill admitted to feeling a bit antsy. He thought he’d like to go into Yuma to pick up a few things for a couple of repairs around ‘home’ as well as look for a small model airplane to put together. He likes to be busy with his hands and sitting and reading just doesn’t satisfy that need. I’m all for him finding something to occupy his time and informed him that I also had pulled out my craft stuff the other day. I need inside things to do when the weather is on the cool side like it has been.

He chatted with Rob next door and then came and got me. Pat suggested a trip to the Arizona Market today since it will be a nice day. I’m all for it as long as Bill gets what he needs before we return home. So, we had bacon and eggs and got cleaned up. Since George and Suzie are pulling out today, we walked over to say goodbye before we left around 10. It shouldn’t be too cold to walk around the market but I’m dressing warm anyway. Layering is the way to go.

Just as we were leaving the park, we got some inside info from Rob that Marlene and Benno from Wheatley, Ont. arrived already this morning. This was the couple we were concerned about yesterday after hearing they’d broke down on I-8 just around Gila Bend. It seems no one, well not many, are exempt from travelling woes this winter. After huge expenses for repairs, they are making it safely to Arizona but with some very frustrating challenges.

We swung back and stopped for greeting hugs, welcomes and introductions before Bill drove to the market, leaving them to get settled in. We’re happy that they arrived on time to also meet George and Suzie, after following their blog for years, before they pulled out. It was a nice day for the market and I was certainly dressed appropriately. We found a couple of things we had on our list and so did Rob and Pat.

From there we went to Home Depot for parts to fix our chairs, I think I forgot to tell about those, and then a quick stop at a hobby store and Big Lots. No purchases made there. Back home, we all remembered that it is Friday and hamburger/chicken burger/hot dog night at the clubhouse. That sounded like a cheap supper with no planning whatsoever so I hopped on my bike to go sign us all up.

I stopped to see if Marlene and Benno were interested as well and walked up with Marlene. She was also needing to get on the clubhouse wifi to communicate with her Mom, to let her know they were safe.  I had pulled a large sirloin steak out of the freezer earlier so placed it back in the fridge for another night. Hopefully the rain tomorrow isn’t a wash out day and we can barbecue.

We needed a snack around 1:30 so he made himself a sandwich and I cut some salami and cheese with crackers. I love these crackers that I bought at Fry’s the other day. I’m glad they were 2 boxes for $5 and I bought 2. Bill went outside to start working on our lawn chairs and soon, Rob had joined him. We already know these guys work well together, 2 minds and 4 hands are better than, well you know.

I finished my snack and instead of sitting out and having Clemson getting in their way, I pulled out my corking/spooling stuff. Y’all may have another name for it but this is what I call it. I tear 1” wide strips of old sheets and using that to make a rug.

I’m using one colour theme of beiges/light browns and whites but even a mish mash of colours were make it nice too. Doesn’t much matter because this is one (er, another one) of those projects that I started a while ago and may not be finished for 10 years.

The chairs were finished right on time for 3:30 Happy Hour and Marlene and Benno arrived with Rob and Pat soon after. The sun was warm and we didn’t need jackets today. How lovely not to have any wind! At 4:45 we parted only to meet again to walk to the clubhouse for supper at 5. It was cute to see little Reggie come running out of Marlene and Benno’s trailer to say hello, like a little runaway. As we walked up the ramp to the clubhouse, at the top stood our friends, Ken and Nancy.

Wha?? It threw us all for a loop, thinking one of the others had invited them to join us all for supper. No problem there but then they said they were neighbours and had pulled in today to camp. Woohoo! That is too funny! The story followed and it just goes to show you that no matter what plans you have, things can go awry and you have to scramble to make alternate arrangements. We are all happy to have them and we shared a table for 10 once more.

If I haven’t said it enough, I’ll say it again ‘we are blessed to have so many friends. It was a great meal and my only screw up today (repeated twice) was that I didn’t get a picture at Happy Hour nor did I get a group shot at supper. There will be another time before we all go our separate ways. So, tonight, I’m dragging in photos from previous meetings.

We walked back to the Suite and Bill and Rob walked back up to take part in Texas Hold’em. This will be the last night for Bill so I was happy he went for another go at the game. I settled down and finished this post and then worked away at corking. The tv remote was mine, all mine, tonight so I found something to watch for a couple of hours. My Sex in the City movie was my choice and I enjoyed seeing Jennifer Hudson (whom I like from the Voice) in her early acting days.

My Kind of Day, Arizona Market, Surprise Birthday Lunch at Lin’s

Friday, Feb. 24^th at Pilot Knob RV Resort, California. Man, I have a great feeling about today. It isn’t because it is Friday, I don’t crave Fridays anymore. It is just a beautiful sunny day with no wind and I feel on top of the world for some reason. Oh yah, being retired and being with my sweetie down here in the southwest might have something to do with it.

We were up at 7 and instead of catching a sunrise, I caught 3 empty washers at the Laundry building. At that time of the morning, we weren’t concerned about using 3 instead of the stipulated “2 washers per person please”. After all, there were two of us. We were overdue for doing laundry so had lots to catch up on.

When the wash was done around 9 we came back and had bacon and eggs on the Weber Q. We haven’t had them for a couple of days for one reason or another and they tasted great! Today we are meeting our friends, conveniently, at Lin’s at 1 pm to celebrate our friends’ birthdays. The honourees don’t know about it.

I had a shower after dishes and took Clemson for a walk. Something else overdue, he doesn’t get one every day and I feel bad when I miss a couple of days in a row. Terrible Mom, eh? While we were gone, Bill got his shower and then we were ready to head out at 11. Clemson was put in charge of looking after the house, a job he takes on willingly because he gets his treat.

So, we drove to the Arizona Market first and it was a busy place. We both like this market, if you are looking for something you have a really good chance of finding it here. Keep in mind that it is a flea market though if you go looking for a birthday card, you won’t find it. J

I won’t say what we were looking for but we found it without too much difficulty and only had to make one connection with someone back home. Not too bad! If that sounds convoluted, it is. It was meant to be. Just let it go. We bumped into George, Suzie, Bill and Barb. Bill and Barb were there to pick up a sunshade and we were all putting in time to meet up at Lin’s.

Arriving at Lin’s at 10 to 1 we see Rob’s empty truck so we knew we could venture on in and seat ourselves with the birthday clan. The cat would be out of the bag by now. Hmm, can you say that when going into a Chinese restaurant to eat? LOL The buffet here is awesome. For $9.95 you get all you can eat and if you are over 62 you get 10% off that price. Bingo!

I think I went up 3 times but kept each plate to a minimum and walked out of there feeling very content, not over stuffed. At the same time, Bill and I knew, as did most of the others, that we wouldn’t need anything for supper tonight.

When we left the market restaurant, we stopped for diesel at Baron’s Fuels at a good price and hit a Walmart to buy the card I mentioned. I already had a perfect card for Pat.

We met back at camp and joined together at Bill and Barb’s for Happy Hour. This was fitting since Bill and Barb are leaving tomorrow. Bill and Barb are from Rochester, NY (I think, sorry if I got that wrong). They met George and Suzie a few years back while camping at Lazy Lakes RV Park.

The sun was great for a while but once it moved behind the tree, I was shaded and got cool very quickly. Shortly after 4:30 I’m afraid we broke up the gathering when we headed home. Last we heard, Rob, George and Rose were headed up for Texas Hold ’Em at the clubhouse tonight. Good luck!

Back home I settled in my recliner with my book. I’ll be finishing this one tonight! Bill tried reading but his eyes were too heavy and nap time took over. It is difficult starting a new book, especially when you are tired. I knew a catnap would do him good so I took my book to the bedroom and did my reading away from the sleeping sounds.

I didn’t take many pictures today at all but since I missed the sunrise this morning, I had to go down the road to get a snapshot of the sunset. 

 I hope you all had a great day today. It was a good one and I’m winding down quickly. Good food, good sun, reading and exercise and great friends do that to us. Oh and I did get my book finished!
