A Weather Change

The Ridge

On Sunday, Oct. 6th I woke up to cloudy skies. It was clear at 6:45 when Bill and Gibbs went out but soon changed. The sun rose but was swallowed up almost immediately. The gusting winds were stronger than we’ve had in a while. At 8 am, 30 mph winds had the trees bending and Bill’s flags flapping. They will soon be taken down, if not today!

Good morning!
Lots of clouds today and lots of wind.

The view is different with a small tree out
of that garden right in front.

It had rained briefly around 4 am, so Bill says, but it was dry out there this morning. We bundled against the cool 8C/48F as it felt much cooler than that. First thing, Bill went for water and when he returned and was transferring it to the Suite, he dumped the black tank. The Blue Boy can go away now and we’ll just dump as we pull out on the 16th. 😊

I trimmed the flowering raspberry bush, the rose bush and hibiscus while he was busy and then we moved the chairs and picnic table off the grass. It was easiest for him to hop on the Cub Cadet and cut the grass up here in our front lawn and now it is ready to be put away. We’ll get an oil change on it in the spring. Things now will have to go away in order, to be sure we are done with them and that we make the best use of our storage space.

With each thing we trim or clean up,
our view changes.
The raspberry bush and hibiscus were
in these locations.
That box holds my mint and I had to move
it, temporarily, when we took the small tree down.

The mint box was in the middle.
This tree is coming out too, the branch that broke
off last winter damaged my bird feeder.

It was still dry out, so I went up to the berm garden and started cutting back the hostas and picking up the fallen apples. All of that went over the fence behind us. I didn’t get finished before the rain started. Gibbs ran up the hill to tell me to get the heck in out of the rain. He was getting wet! Ha ha. We had rolling thunder for at least an hour, sounding very cool. Almost like jets overhead, I guess it was the warning of pending precipitation. 😊

This is all done with the exception of the dahlia bulbs

We came in to sit for awhile before lunch, and at noon, I baked the pack of Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns. I’m in Bill’s good favour again. The way to his heart sometimes is a cinnamon bun. The rain persisted, off and on, but making it too difficult to plan any more outdoor activities. I started my blog and Bill went to the Hangar for a bit. If it clears out, we’ll put the tires from the shelter into the Bunky.

I was b-a-a-d for food today.
No keto influences at all.

I tried using the vacuum to suck the air out of the vacuum bags that have blankets etc. but only 1 out of 4 worked the way it should. Oh well, it is good plastic and they are at least sealed. That should be enough to deter the mice and Bill will put the cubes of poison in there too. I might have to invest in another pack of the bags next summer.

This is the only vacuum bag
that held tight when I finished.

Gibbs and I dozed inside and I played Euchre on my phone. A new app I downloaded the other day and I love it! I love the game and never play it anymore so this is fun. 😊 The sun began making appearances after 2:30 so we went out and I finished cleaning up the berm. All that is left is digging up the bulbs and I think I’m done. I’ve also found a new location to try my Rose of Sharron in the spring. Fingers crossed!

Gibbs can be sound asleep on the floor but
if one of us moves, his head pops up. He
doesn't want to miss anything!

It was so nice out that I walked down the lane and gathered all the long branches and trees that we cut the other day. It was easy enough to drag them up in three trips, leaving only the trunk pieces that Bill cut up. I’ll take the wagon down this week and bring those up. I was quite pooped so sat with Gibbs for a while on the patio before coming in for my afternoon cup of tea.

This pile is 2 trips from the end of the lane up.
Gibbs is keeping it safe and watching me at the same time.

Bill came up before 5 and went upstairs to watch a movie and catch a few winks too. The work and fresh air does tire us out, all 3 of us. I had ground beef out for supper but had to use my noggin to come up with something suitable. My canned goods are limited so it wasn’t going to be chili. Macaroni, green pepper, onions and spices made up a pretty decent pot. Madame IP did the work for me.

Gord, from next door, and Caper popped
over briefly on their way in to town so
I gave him a bone like this, although
big dog size for Caper. It was way too
big for Gibbs to carry.
We got a thank you later.

I found a can of pears in the cupboard on my search for beans, so I made a dump cake kind of dessert using them up. It was pretty good too. Bill was sure a guinea pig tonight and was pleased with both efforts. 😊 We cleaned up the pots and settled in for the evening. I think we’re in for a wet day tomorrow so I won’t be doing much outside. Bill has plans with a friend so it will be just Gibbs and I for the most part.

I am always surprised when something 'out of my head'
turns out so well. 😂😂😂

This was a nice day after all, clearing out of blue skies by suppertime. We reached 20C/69F but the winds didn’t abate by too much come nightfall. To answer a commenter from yesterday. We have always been told that if the eggs are hard boiled and/or in egg salad, they are fine. We don't take fresh eggs, although you could if there was no report of the Avian flu in your area. We've just stopped taking chances with fresh eggs and chicken.

Pear dump cake.
Sweet but good.
Good night!

Thank you for popping by.

There’s a Change a’ comin’, Heavenly Birthday

Park Place RV Park

Today, Friday, Jan. 12th it was a c-c-cold start to the day. The last one for a long time. 😊 There are changes coming to our weather patterns here and we will finally be seeing the temperatures we came down for. Overnight and first thing this morning it was 32F/0C. Gibbs wore his coat and I bundled up, even wearing one of my homemade scarves!

A lovely morning for an extended walk

BUT! The sun was shining and incredibly warm already at 8:30 when we headed out. Bill had left for the field a few minutes before us, dressed appropriately in layers. By the time we got back home, 15 minutes later, I knew I had to go back out and enjoy this morning. I don’t walk long, hard or fast, but I do enjoy the steady pace, the fresh air and scenery. When I returned, it was 42F/5C and my coat was undone. 😊

The Women's Rubber Tramp Rendevous(RTR)started
yesterday at the Quartzsite Town Park.
Women (solo) only Jan. 11 - 13
RTR - Jan. 14 - 19
This is a unique gathering for those travelers who find their home on the road.

I made a coffee and walked over to the clubhouse to work on the puzzle. It was done by 11:30 so Patti and I took our pictures of it and I left it for Bill to see when he got home. Since he gifted it to me, I wanted him to see the real thing, not just a picture. It’s beautiful and if I had a wall for it, I would save it. However, with this lifestyle, that won’t be happening – anytime soon, I hope. I’m in no hurry for it to stop.

I worked on and finished the puzzle
this morning.
It was very unique with curved and odd shaped pieces.

We had lunch together, today, I made myself a veggie quesadilla with bacon added in. Yum, I do enjoy them. Bill and Keith had planned to return to the field this afternoon since the wind was down and it would be a great afternoon to spend flying their planes. I had no puzzle to work on so thought I might attack a project with the bulky yarn I bought at the yard sale.

Gibbs sleeps behind me while I sort
out the yarn mess.
Two hours later!

I had offered the lady (at the sale) $1 for the bag marked $2. In it was one loosely bound ball of blended blue wool and 2 plain blue, loosely bound balls. She ummed and ahhed, telling me it was worth $2 and I pushed with “so, the answer is no?” Whether it is worth the price she was asking is beside the point. I knew what I wanted to pay. She said “yes”.

Gibbs and I enjoyed the afternoon walk too

In one way, I had buyers regret, what’s an extra $1 to me? Today, after spending 2 hours unravelling and rewinding them, I’m happy I didn’t pay more! I’m a wheeler-dealer, cheapskate when it comes to yard sales and am always prepared to walk away OR to increase my offer when necessary. Anyway, the balls are now rebound and I’ll eventually see what I can do with them. 😉

He 'waits' while I take my pictures
Bless his little heart. ♥

Bill was home by 3:30 and went to get propane and water before puttering outside. I started on the crochet kit that I bought last winter at Hobby Lobby rather than one of the new downloads for amigurumis. I’d made the cow for Krystal’s shower, essentially for Baby Alexander. Once I get warmed up, and get it finished, I’ll work on something else.

Bill and I took pictures of the sky tonight.
Red sky at night...............our delight!
this is looking east.

At 5, Gibbs and I did our walk and I noticed the clouds that had moved in, to the west, especially. Bill grilled pork chops, I fried potatoes and cooked vegetables for our supper. That was in between the two of us snapping pictures of the impending sunset.

and the west sky after the sun drops
behind the mountains

The after effect is bound to be gorgeous when clouds are involved. Should I feel guilty, running out in my t-shirt, taking pictures of such glory when back home, they are getting a snow storm? Well, not guilty but sad for them, especially when they lose hydro/electric power because of it.

Kapow! Gorgeous!

Our weather reached a mild 59F/15C under calm sunny skies. Tonight, we’ll drop to 37F/2.7C, and then we’re on the rise for the days, weeks and months to come. Finally! 😊 We cleaned up after dishes and did our thing. Blog, tv, crocheting, whatever came to mind. This has been a nice quiet day.

A nice meal. Just the right amount of
pork chop (not my fav) for me.  Bill got the big one.

Today, would have been my ‘older’ brother’s 71st birthday. I say older because when he passed at 58, I suddenly became his older sister. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Bruce. You are missed dearly by family and friends.

I love this picture of you, Bruce.
You were smiling at ME 💖

Good night y'all!

Thank you for the visit. Your comments are always appreciated.

Changing Weather, Low Key Day

The Ridge

On Saturday, Aug. 26th we were hoping for what the forecast was offering. It didn’t turn out that way. It was a dull morning but although it seemed wet, I don’t think it rained overnight. Bill was up with Gibbs around 6 and then they both returned to bed for a while longer. I don’t even remember when we all got up to greet the day.

A very dull day

Bill had decided last night that if it wasn’t going to rain, he’d take Jazz to the flying field since I needed Ptooties. The forecast showed a very minimal chance of precipitation all day. So, after he left, wearing his rain gear, I had my tea and Gibbs and I went for a walk. We didn’t get far, to the end of the lane in fact, and we turned back up the lane. It was a light but very wet mist that we were walking in. Poor Bill, he could also be getting some dampness.

I agree, a terrible picture but the only
one i have.
Bill leaves for the field.

I texted Robin, we were to meet this morning. When I didn’t have to take M into town today, I left Gibbs in charge and drove first to town to fuel up so I could inform my sisters what they owed me for fuel. Then I drove to Williamsford. This was in preparation for a new temporary cleaning job. Robin and her husband have renovated this stone Blacksmith home to be used as an Air BNB. In between clients, it needs to be cleaned.

I'm sure Gibbs missed his walks and
today didn't really make up for it, it was
too wet.

Gayle and John's Montana came to visit 😃

It is a very nice 2-bedroom place and now ready for business. She will be advertising it this weekend. They were also having a garage sale but the insistent rain made us cover the tables with tarps. On the way home, it rained 2 or 3 different times with dry pavement in between. Crazy weather! In Durham again, I stopped at Foodland for some bread and then returned home.

A group of bright coloured visitors

Gibbs helped me purge clothes.
Had to make room for the 'new' stuff.

Gibbs looks on as I build the pile for donation

Bill wasn’t too far behind me and he was fortunate to have been able to dodge the rain showers on his ride home. It was a lazy afternoon and for supper we had fish and chips. After clean up, Bill made a lunch for another morning of flying. I’ll take him in the car and pick him up after. She is a big girl and will pull the cargo trailer so he can fly. It is supposed to be a nice day tomorrow.

It was looking promising overhead
but not where I was driving too.

We watched tv after I finished my blog and it was a quiet evening. I also got back into my book this afternoon. 😊

Supper was good.

It was a good day but we didn't get warmer than 17C/63F. When it is drizzly and cloudy all day, that equates to a miserable day. The sun finally came out around 4:30 and the sky was clear until sunset.

The sky cleared for a pretty red sunset

But my picture taking skills are for the birds!
Take care and Good night!

Thank you for your visit.

Classic Weather Change, Typically Ontario

The Ridge

On Friday, Oct. 7th we woke up to a total change in temperature here in our part of the world. I’m sure we aren’t alone , but we went from a gorgeous day yesterday, 19C/66F and sunny, to 5C/41F and windy with heavy dark clouds. There have been sunny breaks but it has brought no rise in temperature. Brrr. Bill left for his LAST scheduled work day at 7:30.

The clouds were pretty heavy
much of the day

For some strange reason, I, the gal who rarely has a bad night’s sleep, went to bed at 9:30, woke up at 1 am and laid awake until around 5 when I’m sure I dropped off for a few minutes before getting up at 6:30. I can’t figure why but I watched every 15 minutes tick by, tossing and turning umpteen number of times. The funny thing is that I wasn’t tired! I debated getting up and going downstairs but I knew it would be chilly down there and I was toasty warm. So, I stayed put.

Lunch

I didn’t have to go anywhere but had planned to take our grocery list, which was getting fuller by the hour, to Hanover’s Walmart. I can’t beat the prices there and it’s a one-stop shop for those other personal cleansing items we need. I wore a sweater plus a fall jacket! I was in and out of Walmart pretty quickly, which was good as I could feel a tickle in my throat, threatening a cough. 😊

Gibbs and I looked out the back window
and saw the berm covered in birds
I don't  know what kind they are

The background is pretty, huh?
These birds were busy gathering food from the lawn

I had my mask in my pocket in case I started hacking down an aisle, but I didn’t need it. I left a sizeable donation and drove from there to Dollarama. Time to stock up on the greeting cards that we’ll need to cover birthdays over the winter months. We like to have them all on hand so we’re not caught short. We’ll get the stamps we need as soon as we reach Arizona.

Gibbs and I went upstairs for a snooze

He loves the tight spaces

I stopped at the Mat when I saw Kaitlyn was there with the techies who were installing the new cameras. She is always a pleasure to see and she was quite excited today with all the new upgrades. They will now be able to monitor the Mat from their phones with the wifi/internet that was also installed last week. I had to stop at the Dollar Store in Durham to get a toilet brush which I forgot in the city.

Bill was working on the Word Search
while having a tea with me
Gibbs wanted to be as close as possible to his Daddy ♥

He doesn't play with it a lot, but this hard plastic
bone toy is one of the best investments we've made for him

Back home with Gibbs, I had a coffee and soon after, my lunch. Those buns were a good purchase last Friday! I played some of my Word games and then went upstairs with my little guy for some tv and perhaps a snooze. Bill called that he was on his way home so we came down to greet him before we all went up for an afternoon nap. Nice that he was home by 2 on his last day.

It looks pretty sloppy but it tasted good
I gave Bill most of the leftover potatoes and I took
the carrots since they're not his favourite veggie

Leftover hamburger stew for supper with some homemade biscuits, because I like them with a stew. The biscuits never seem to turn out quite the way I like them, but we ate them, crumbly or not, and the meal filled us. It was perfect for this wet, cold, windy day. After dishes, we played along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on tv and just relaxed for the remainder of the evening. I hope I sleep better tonight!

A pretty evening sky
Good night!

Thank you for your visit.

Mixed Bag of Weather and Projects = Great Day!

The Ridge
It was just before 7 when I got up on Sunday, May 19th. It was a mild morning with our weather station reading 56F/14C. I wasted no time. The sun was out, the sky was blue and there wasn’t any wind. I slipped my puffy vest on over a single lightweight hoody and by the time I got to the end of the lane, took the vest off and left it on the gate post. Sometimes 56F isn’t that warm but it was today! Yay!

How's this for a nice morning for walking?
My back was nasty this morning so I took a walking stick. I didn’t want to give up and turn around. It wasn’t the most comfortable walk but I persisted, twisting and stretching as I walked, and enjoyed every minute, every step of the 2 miles before reaching home again.

Good morning!
I had my tea outside when I returned and it was so nice in the King chairs, listening to and watching the birds at my feeder.

And I had coming
Two male goldfinches and 1 female mostly and the red-winged blackbird that keeps trying to eat their food. Comical watching his yoga moves as he sticks his beak in the small hole. Oh well, he is hungry too and I haven’t put any seed out for the bigger birds yet. I’d taken 3 regular strength Advils with my tea and it seemed to be helping.

While I was  being so leisurely, I can’t even recall what Bill got into without stopping to think about it. Oh yes! Now I remember but I saw him taking pictures so hopefully a blog post soon! I keep saying that and in time, my busy guy will do one.

It was shower day for both Bill and I and rather than saving water (teehee) we opted for taking turns today. He was done working outside and so got cleaned up to work on his Stinson Reliant. I think it is almost done, just needed warm weather to paint.

So far, just the rows on the left planted
We had bacon and eggs for breakfast and cleaned up the evidence before going about our day. While he went out to the Hangar, I swept the floor and got everything looking spiffy inside again. It seems that I got cleaned up to get dirty again. I hate, as anyone does, to be ‘out of commission’ so regardless of what it might mean tomorrow, I went to work in my vegetable garden. Bill had removed most of the big rocks from tilling so I put knee pads on and took my seed packets of onions, radishes and sunflowers up the hill. With gloves and a hand rake and trowel, I removed even more rocks and planted.

And my new flower bed is ready for planting
I planted a couple of sunflowers in each corner of the garden and 1 packet of radishes and 1 of green onions in the rows furthest east. I’ll wait the 10 days and plant a second packet of the little red veggie. That should supply me for the summer. I didn’t get my multiplier onions in yet, but hopefully tomorrow. With that done for now, I was feeling pretty good so moved down to the new flower garden area that I’d asked Bill to till for me. There was a lot of grass and grass roots to pick up and remove as well as large and small stones. I was excited, this was a good spot – I hope.

And chippy wasn't hanging out too far from the bird feeder
looking for droppings
When I finished that, I knew that I’d done enough for the day. It was only 2 when I grabbed a bottle of water from the bunky and my book from inside the Suite. I put the cushion I bought for my lounge chair on the King chair to make it easier on the butt and settled in.

I enjoyed watching the birds today
Oh? That isn't news, is it?

This must be a female oriole?
While in the bunky, I covered the futon with a nice comforter we’d had on our queen bed in our sticks and bricks home. Hard to purge some things if they were useful. It looks nice there. I forgot to get a picture today.

Had to burn some wood today
The wind increased and the temperature did as well. Humidity was running rampant but we’re not complaining at all. This is what we’ve been waiting for! I know it isn’t going to last, dropping ridiculously tomorrow again, but we’ll take it when we can. I read quite a few chapters of James Patterson's The Haunted until the wind was becoming too strong, sitting with my back to it. I could see a very black cloud moving in from the southwest so closed up the bunky, told Bill I was moving inside and made myself a tea.

The winds and rain brought me inside
I had to close the windows on the south side as the rain was spattering in on the entertainment centre. The rain got wild for a bit and then it stopped and things calmed down. The black cloud has moved off the to the east – for now. There are warnings out for the next hour or so and we’ll be watchful. Bill moved inside around 3, also done for the day. It will be tomorrow before we pop over to the Acreage to see Donna and Gerry, they didn’t arrive until around 3.

The rest of the day showed us a mixed bag of weather. We’ve had heat, humidity, rain, sun, clouds, wind and by 6 pm we even had thunderstorms. Moments when we couldn’t see the laneway from so much rain to moments of beautiful wet clarity of how green things are. Clemson isn’t afraid of storms at all, bless his little heart, and when I moved out of my chair at 5:30 to start supper he just stretched out across the blanket.
Within a couple of minutes, the temperature dropped
and the winds increased
We settled in when the rain started to watch some more of our prerecorded programs. At least we can do that if the satellite signal is lost. The storms could continue until 8 pm at least.

I hope you enjoy this collage
What do geese think?
The top 4 pictures, it was raining heavy and they sat there while it poured and the wind blew
They took turns flapping their wings when it stopped
and then they all turned together and followed each other to the front of the pond
Wha???
For supper tonight, we had two plans. Burgers on the Weber (if it wasn’t raining or storming) or chicken thighs which I’d thawed during the day (if it was doing either of the above). Decision made at 5 pm. Chicken it is! I don’t mind, I’m hungry. 😊

storms don't bother me
So, I sautéed the large thighs in oil in Madame IP, trying to brown the skin up more than usual. Once done that, I added red skinned potatoes, a large onion and a couple of carrots on top of the trivet. I cut the large potatoes in half because I’m only cooking for 15 minutes. That’s all the thighs need so I’m hoping that is enough for the spuds as well.

chicken thighs on saute
We had spent the day today ‘unplugged’ from power, using our solar panels. Earlier when the winds got wild, the thumbnail sized rain drops fell and the black clouds moved overhead I ran out and plugged us back in. I didn’t want to get caught and having to do it last minute.

Everything in the pot ready to cook
The IP has built up pressure, released some steam and has started cooking our supper. We were eating by 6:30, all but the corn cooked in one pot. And if I’d planned it, I could have added that too. The chicken was delicious and the vegetables were done perfectly. There were leftovers for another night, but only potatoes and veggies.

Bill decided Clemson didn't need his sweater today
although tomorrow it may go back on
He has to grab it and carry it around for a while
The dishes were cleaned up by 7 and rather than watching more recordings, we watched our regular Sunday night show, American Idol. It was 3 hours so I’m not sure I can stay up to the end. I’ve asked Bill to record the last hour as I need to get up early for work tomorrow.

And I was watching for a rainbow all day
So a full double one was awarded to us
I've never seen one so bright and thick at the base
This was from across the room, out our back window
Stunning!
As crazy as this day was for weather systems, we had a good one. We got things accomplished and enjoyed some pleasure time doing what we enjoy.

And not to short change the sunset
Also stunning
Good night y'all!
Thanks for your visit!
