Nothing will Measure Up but It was a Wonderful Day

The Ridge

So, although it is true that nothing today will measure up to my excitement of yesterday, we all slept in until 7 am on Saturday, Oct. 11th. At 6, I knew Bill was still in a sound sleep so told Gibbs that it wasn't time, to go back to sleep. He did as he was told for another hour. God love him. 💗

Good morning!
The donut tree never did get real
red this fall.

I did have to clean but it was a later time of 7:20 that I pulled out of the lane. Quiet Mat, no one present, yay! I filled a bag of the L & F clothes, seems someone had picked through but most were still there. Tsk tsk.

The sky was pretty though
and yet the clouds never
really moved off completely.
Here is the view of our entrance
now with grass, gardens,
flags and decor removed.

I claimed an Avril Lavigne hoody that is lovely in colour (black and pink) and very warm, even though I don't listen to her music. Woops! I love bright colours so that's my excuse. The rest will be added to the already 3 bags of clothes I've gathered for the clothing exchange this weekend.

They didn't finish baking until
close to 7 pm but here is my
process.
Pumpkin, apple and French apple.

Bill and I will drop them off at Joanne's tomorrow because we need to get them out of our way. She will be the host for the exchange and I won't be there. Bill and I never stopped after I got home. He first got propane in town, then returned the brush trimmer to Gord.

Bill disconnected the hand pump
from the rain barrel and let the
water drain. It gets turned upside down
while we're away.
It's a shame to waste the water BUT
was I ever grateful to have it this summer!

He drove to the Acreage to assist Donna and Gerry in closing their trailer and take down their shelter. While he was gone, I began making my pies for dinner tomorrow. 2 apple and 1 pumpkin. Maybe only 2 going for the ride though. 😉

The Bunky is 'winterized'
so to speak. Bill has just enough
room to get in to the electric/hydro
panel to turn things off when we leave.

Bill and I kept going; he emptied the storage shed to make room for the rider and then we filled it, the outhouse and the Bunky with all of our outdoor 'stuff'. It seems each year, we do better than the previous one!

This is the neatest this shed has
been all summer!
Room for our new recycle bin too.

I know it is early and we may regret not having a chair to sit on, but in the event that weather turns, we will be ready. At 3:30, I stopped and came in to start baking the pies. Bill came in around 4 and we had a cup of tea together. Gibbs has been watching, wondering, I'm sure. 💕🐶

Even everything is in place
in the outhouse.
Sorry! Out of service!

Fish and chips for Bill's supper and fish and squash for mine. We'll be having potato chips and cheese later so I will behave during our big meal. Ha ha. Supper was good, although the fish almost disappeared in the air fryer! Oh well, it was still tasty and my squash was delicious!

I still have this berm garden
to clean up and
Bill has his flag to take down.
In time. See another reason for
these trees to come down?

While we ate, I had popped the last pie, French Apple, in the oven and it wasn't long before that when it hit me that we'd just put everything away in the Bunky and that is where my pie containers are. Way back in the corner on the shelf under the fridge. Oh brother!

Everything looks so neat and tidy
with stuff packed away.

Even though the sun was warm
when it was out, we didn't see a lot
of it. No wind made it pleasant to
work in.

I'll figure it out unless we can crawl in there in the morning to retrieve at least one. Bill has put away enough of his planes that he really hasn't got anything to work on or any reason to go to the Hangar. He went upstairs to watch a movie and after my blog was posted, I popped in a dvd.

I love the colours in this picture.
Looking east across the pond.

Our little old man, watching
and watching. Always. 💕

I don't think I've seen The Book of Eve so that's the one I'm watching tonight. This has been a really good day with plenty accomplished.

A small but good supper.
That will be different tomorrow.
It will be 'big' and delicious!

We reached a pleasant high this afternoon of 15C/59F and last night's low was only around 9C/45F so that was nice.

The evening sky was ending almost
the way the morning sky started.
Good night!

Thank you for stopping by!

  1. Always like to see the donut tree! :) Your yard looks so neat and NAKED !! OH MY!! :))
The front gate to your Estate! is looking a little bare too but it's good to put the decorations away for winter. Gibbs does not look happy - are you leaving him home alone .... again? :(
The rains are done for awhile now ~ YA!!! Winter is coming or it's here already!!
    Safe travels!

    1. I thought you might like to see the donut tree, regardless of its colours.
Yes, the yard does look naked.
I know, Gibbs is thinking 'what now?'

  2. A busy but rewarding day. It is always more work putting things away for winter than taking them out when we get home, isn't it?

  4. Cute photo of Gibbs! He looks so comfortable.
There is rain and snow in the forecast here - I do hope it continues moving north and misses us (it won't) but at least it isn't heading your way.
Bunky, the shed, and outhouse look full to the brim. Perhaps you'll get away a couple of days earlier than planned?

    1. It is a cute photo of Gibbs, wonder what he's thinking?
ooh, snow?? Hope not although I see Alberta had nasty weather through the mountains. I'm glad it isn't coming this way - yet! at least.
Things are surely filled up here, no, we'll stick to our regular weekend departure/crossing.
