Park Place RV Park
On Thursday, Jan., 9th we are grateful for many things. Many of those things are obvious, like the warmth here, the fellowship within Quartzsite, our hobbies and yet the sun still plays top of the list. While we get some strong winds here periodically for days in a row, if that sun is in full force, like today, we are so blessed. The heat coming in through the windows of the Suite is natural and radiant.
Good morning! The calm before the wind |
Someone found this in the bush, reportedly having been there since October. No pedals, maybe Fred Flintstones? By the end of the day, someone picked it up. |
Scary, unbecoming, yes but it kept me warm and safe from the dust. |
We have
been able to disconnect from power (electric/hydro) for many days again in
January, so far, and that is saving us daily. That means even more to the
boondockers who rely on solar panels for their power. 😊 I was up by 7 and after glancing outside, I was out the door
by 7:15. There was no wind at all registering on our weather station. Bonus!
I wrote a message in the sand. I wonder if it will still be there tomorrow? |
It was cool though, 40F/4C, so I wore my down jacket plus my vest plus my gloves and one of my wrap scarves around my neck. Because the air had a chill to it, I pulled it up over my mouth and nose against the threat of the ‘desert virus’. My sister asked me this morning if we could smell the smoke from the California fires so I tested that when I was out. Maybe there wasn’t enough wind because I couldn’t.
The pink mountains in the west are inviting you to the park. |
Tommy
picked Bill up within minutes of my return and they took another drive to Lake Havasu to get club banners made. I had my tea and cereal before
taking Gibbs out for his walk. Well, he took me all over the area, not the
usual route, but it was fun watching him decide which way to go. There was no
wind to bother him so we just wandered and enjoyed the sunshine. ♥
Yes, I'm coming. Which way are we going? |
At 10, it was bp
coffee time so I made it and went to start on the second puzzle that Nancy
loaned me. Another desert picture, this would be fun. The pieces are large and
it is a 500-pc. puzzle again. Should be done by the time she arrives on
Saturday. I think that is still her plan. 😊
This will be another lovely picture. |
As forecasted, almost to the minute (could they be that accurate?) the winds began. It was just after 11:30 when I could hear them outside the clubhouse and when I walked back at noon, I was almost brought to a complete stop with the north wind pushing against me.
Nothing inside was disturbed but it sure flopped around! |
The gazebo is flipping and flopping, rocking and rolling but seemingly staying in place. Even though the door zipper is broken, it has served us well in the 3 years we’ve had it. I worry less about it each winter, understanding more about what it can withstand. The wind did pop the top up twice in the course of the day.
From the door of our Suite, a close up of the dust-covered mountains. |
The Open flag is rarely flying straight out like this. Oh, and it's Yard Sale Saturday again. |
Bill was home when I got back but was next door so I began making bacon and eggs for lunch. They were good, bacon sandwiches – yum. ♥ Bill and Gibbs had their 20-minute (?) snooze while I started my blog post. Lots of ramble, sorry ‘bout that! I’ve started reading a Janet Evanovich story. The army surplus store has the best selection of books, in my opinion. All organized by author which makes it really easy to find what and who you’re looking for. They didn't have the first two in the series though.
A lot of chuckles but a fun read. I'm almost half way through. |
We hopped in Black Beauty for a run over to the big tent so Bill could fill out the necessary application for the club to get their booth, so I tagged along. There were a couple of other stops we made and then we returned home around 2:30. I had a bit of a headache so made a cup of tea at home and relaxed with my book. I actually dozed in my chair with a warm little furball beside me and that did the trick.
Driving south on I-95, there stands the Big Tent |
Parking lot view The rumours are true. It is 40' longer this year. 100' wide and 650' long (I think Bill said) |
For supper, we had air fried sausages. Bill had fries and I cooked ¼ of a pepper squash. My timing was off but when it was all ready, it was delicious! We had a cheesecake bar and the overnight chilling improved the crust so that’s good! 😊
There is a second, female water elephant at the entrance too! |
We cleaned up the few pots by hand and loaded the dishwasher. This has been an inside day for sure. Gibbs didn’t get out for his afternoon walk which meant my second day where my steps were lacking. He didn’t seem to want to go far anyway, the wind was uncomfortable for him too. We reached a sunny 66F/17C which is pretty good in spite of the wind.
Supper was good! Good night! |
Thank you for your visit!
