Hop On Hop Off Trolley Tour, A Better Evening

Two Rivers Campground (a lot of pictures, feel free to skip)

On Wednesday, Oct. 23rd we were all up and preparing for the day. Well, Bill and I were. Gibbs wasn’t yet aware of what his day would look like. We had plans, a trolley shuttle into Nashville to pick up a Trolley Tour in the downtown. I took Gibbs for his walk down to the dog park, where finally another dog came in for a little while. We left the park at 9:30 am.

Good morning.
Park walk before we left.

We got on the Trolley Shuttle at the park
Big Cat was our driver. 😁
It took 75 minutes to get to catch the Trolley Tour.at
Marathon Motor Works.
(not acceptable in our eyes but it was due to all of the pick ups
and the repeated narration for each new group of passengers)

This is a ‘hop on, hop off’ tour where you paid once and got a narrated tour around town. You could get off at any of the 13 stops, see the sights and pick up the next one for the whole day if you wished. We didn’t wish to do too much today and were glad we hadn’t planned more than one stop for ourselves. I won’t discredit it too much but we wouldn’t do it again. For us, especially, on a bit of a time (& budget) schedule, we may have learned the hard way. 😊

The Parthenon
Some pretty downtown streets
A sign on the side of a building I had to capture.

The drivers (we had 4) throughout the day were good, doing their best to draw their passengers in but it was a long day. Our one stop was at the Belmont Mansion and that was a treat. We learned about the owner, Adelicia Acklen, and her life in this incredible place.

You can Google it if you are interested but the pictures I (we) took are going to have to tell the story. Each room was a ‘wow’ for me, I loved it and tried to imagine life back in the 1800’s, living in such a large home.

We started here after an introductory spiel
about the owner's history.

I like looking up at the ceilings and
light fixtures.
Beautiful!

We took a self-guided tour and within the hour, we were back outside waiting for our tour bus to return.

I also love the furniture pieces

Long story short, we arrived back at our site around 3:30. Gibbs was happy to see us, but not so thrilled to learn that we had plans away from home again. He did take his treat without hardship and we left for our second planned outing for the day. A nice surprise was that Bill’s (& mine now) cousins, Peter and Linda, also arrived in the area yesterday. Their daughter and her husband and grandson live less than 10 miles away from our park. 😊

The stairwell.
Bottom corner picture is at the top looking down.
There was one more level up to the cupola
but we were not allowed.

The bedrooms

Plate warmer, we all need one of those, right?
😂

We were invited there for a visit that included supper. That was unexpected and so nice of them and we were delighted to be able to see them all. We caught up, hadn’t seen them since Peter’s retirement a couple of years ago. I think I’ve got that right, but it doesn’t matter, we had a wonderful meal and evening.

Our lunch while waiting.

While waiting for our Trolley Shuttle,
we grabbed a bite and wandered through
the shops.
Antique Archaeology was one to see.
We've been to their store in Iowa.

I tried all day to get a clear shot of the
Capital building and on our way back home,
I finally managed it and one of the
Musician's Hall of Fame

On the route back to the park.
Nissan Stadium off in the distance.

Taking after his talented, song-writing Daddy, little ‘almost 3’ Rebel stole our hearts after dinner when he sang some songs for us. I sure wish my videos would play on here! He is a special little guy. We had a little boy of our own at home, so said goodbye just before 8:30 and drove back to Gibbs. Bill put a movie on and I sat to write my blog.

Their lovely street
and
the delicious steak dinner.

This was a good day, another hot one around 86F/30C, with the nights just around 50F/10C. We feel some of our morning was wasted, riding way too long on the trolley, but the remainder of the day was the cherry on top of a sundae. We had such a fun time at Katie and Jesse Slack’s home.

How many times can you give your ♥ away?
Rebel is so adorable!

If you are still with me,
Good night y'all!

Thank you for the visit.

  1. So much fun to catch up with relatives in unexpected places :-) I/we have done the hop on hop off tours in New York and New Orleans and really enjoyed them but the narrative was different for each segment. Most stops we just walked around getting a feel for the different neighbourhoods, but also we didn't have a cute ball of fur waiting for us to get home!

    1. It was a real treat, not planned at all!
Yes, the hop on and off tours would be different if we didn't have Gibbs. Mind you, younger would help too, we don't walk as much now without wearing down as we used to!

  2. Fabulous house! I can imagine living there, but the entire time I would be worried about the kid. Sounds like visiting family made up for the trolley.

    1. I would even love a sleep over (for a few weeks) in that mansion!

  3. Too bad the shuttle was so slow, but you did get to see the city. Nice to run into relatives to end your day.

  4. I learned in San Francisco that a HoHo bus is best when you have a few days to explore...so much to see and the time it takes to go around is lengthy. Had you planned to go to the Belmont Mansion before you caught the shuttle. Shame it took so long to return.
Rebel sounds like a perfect name for a little boy from Nashville. He has, what I call, dandelion hair. So cute!
