A LNew Week Begins

The Ridge

On Monday, Aug. 24th I stayed in bed until Bill was out of the shower. With all the windows open, it was a great sleep that I had. I didn’t ask my bedmate, as he doesn’t usually have such a good one. He wakes up quite a few times through the night, it seems. He’s tried numerous things and when he just resigns himself to it, then out of the blue, he gets his 6 or 7 hours. 😊 He is used to it and he is able to drop off in the afternoon or evening so still gets enough zzzz’s.

Another later sunrise

It was going to be another hot day, 25C/82F but with the humidity at 87%, you do the math. After today, the temperatures ‘should’ be dropping about 8 degrees and that will make a huge difference. I’m still not complaining.

The seasons ARE changing soon and I’m going to embrace this heat as long as I can. Usually, I don’t mind when fall/autumn is on the horizon because I know what is in store for our winter. This year – we're not so optimistic.

Bill leaves for work

Bill made my tea and his coffee, which he takes in a thermos to work, and we sat together until he was ready to leave at 7:15. I had to finish last night’s posting. The wi-fi seemed slow when I wanted to download my pics so this morning was my plan. It went quite quickly and by 7:35, I was out the door for a beautiful walk. I got my two miles in and still had almost an hour before I needed to head over to Graceland 2.

The Hangar is quiet this morning

Mitch had me working on the ’96 Silverado (I think that is the year), this time on the tail gate. I’m getting good at ‘giving ‘er’ as he says. It isn’t taking me as long to strip right down to the metal. As long as I have clear instructions on how far to strip it, I have no hesitation, He lets me know what needs to be painted. For the most part, I worked alone. He was on the phone inside dealing with clients, paints colours and the bank until the last hour when he came out and worked on the roof.

Rob and Bethany were out ahead of me this morning
They are way up there ahead of me

The hardest part was the two of us removing the heavy fiberglass tonneau cover. Lordy oh Lordy that was a challenge. Slow but sure, we did it. It had already been sanded and primed so he didn’t want to scuff it up as we inched it off and stood it on its end on cardboard inside the garage. It couldn’t go outside until it was all painted. He says I’m stronger than I look when I ‘whine’ – “I can’t do that!” I left for home at 12 noon.

Should be an interesting book

First point of business at home was to have my shower. I told my sister that I was covered in blue dust and looked like a Smurf. There is some serious dusting down before I leave his shop, before I get in the car and then again before I step in the Suite. There is a blech feeling with the dirty work but at the same time, a feeling of real accomplishment at the jobs I’m doing. 😊 After my shower, I made a lunch plate. The scales were in my favour today when I stepped on them. Yay!

I’d finished The Black Echo by Michael Connelly last night, good book, so needed to update Goodreads and my online Word document for my own records. Bill has already read it, in the ebook format on my Kobo, so it can go to book drop tomorrow when I’m at the laundromat. Gayle loaned me a book that I’m going to try and delve into. It’s called The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn. We got talking about it at LadyFest and it sounds like an eye-opener.

A peek through at the pond on my 'after supper' walk

After eating, I took my book outside to the hammock. I’d dragged it into the best shade I could find and remained out there for over an hour until it became too hot. The sun was moving around and the tree wasn’t blocking enough of it for me to stay out there. Inside, I cleaned up the few dishes in the sink and made myself a coffee. My sweetie pie shouldn’t be too much longer before he’s home. He’ll be worn out from working in this heat.

Donna asked if there were apples on our apple tree

I sat at my laptop, searching rv parks out west without much success. A time killer is all that was but it had to be done. Bill got home around 5 and was just as worn out as I figured. A snooze will do him good. For supper, it will be simple. Pancakes and sausage. I’d bought some Almond Flour at Costco, a much better price there for it than anywhere else, so made a batch of keto pancakes for me and regular ones for Bill.

Not as many as last year but a few

It was good and I enjoyed the ‘guilt-free’ flapjacks. After dishes, I walked down to the mailbox to deposit an envelope and retrieve what was in the box. Bill had taken Black Beauty down to the Hangar area to clean it out. Long overdue. 😊 I thought I’d stretch out in the hammock again to try and cool down, cooking supper had me sweating at the ‘gills’! That lasted for a while and without spray, the teensy flies found me too attractive. I moved indoors at 7:30.

These pancakes were a surprise to me
I really enjoyed them

This was a good day, for a Monday, a beginning day of the week. We think a cool down is coming tomorrow and the drop of 6 to 8 degrees will be welcome. I hope the weather is co-operating where you are. Not much we can do about it. 😊

There sure weren't as many turtles on the log tonight
But I think this is a private rendezvous, don't you?
On that note
Good night!

Thank you for your visit.

  1. If you are seriously looking at RV parks out here in BC you best be rushing. Our park here in Kelowna is full of snowbird renters for the winter, first for this park. I was also told that every RV park between here and the US border is already booked solid.

    1. Yes, we figured as much. sadly, we're not 'serious' about anything at this point. The parks are quite pricey out there plus the fuel. Thanks for the push though, you are absolutely correct!

  2. Just how much snow do you get at the Ridge? Yes it would be chilly, but can't you stay there? Personally, I think you should just escape to Arizona in the middle of the night!

    1. Lots!!
No we couldn't stay warm in our Suite. No water access, no dump access, no plow to clear our lane etc.
