Back to Work for a Full Morning and a Quiet Afternoon

 The Ridge

On  Monday Aug. 17th we were up at normal working time. Last night, I was so tired that I kissed Bill goodnight at 9 and went straight to bed. I did not take my book, I did not turn the bedroom tv on and I did not pass GO. 😊 I needed to get caught up on my sleep. I dropped off quickly yet did come to a semi-wakefulness when Bill came up at 10. He was tired too. It had been a busy couple of days.

No coplaints about this morning

So, this morning, I made a tea in our travel mug and took it to the Laundromat with me.

After the hour cleaning, I drove to Foodland to pick up some Zero Coke for Bill. I may be drinking it too as we are having a hard time even finding Diet Gingerale or Diet anything other than Coke or Pepsi. I’m fussy and don’t like the taste of either. Bill texted me while I was at the Mat sending a picture. Oh dear. Another stone chip in B.B.’s windshield. Gravel truck!! *#!%@!*

With a 300$ deductible, it still hurts the pocketbook

Back home, I changed into a different top since I’ve set some aside for working in the auto body environment. It wasn’t a hot day yet nor was it supposed to be any hotter than 21C/70F which is still pretty nice. I drove to Mitch’s at 9 and we caught up from my time off. He reminded me that I’m starting at $1/hour higher today. He had removed the fiberglass tonneau cover from the pick up truck and now it was a much easier position for me to work on, sitting on two saw horses.

The entrance to the pond is disappearing in the reeds

From sitting in the rain, we notice how paint is still flaking off so I need to do a full-on sanding to remove all of the blue colour. That’s okay, I know how to do it now and have the time to do it. So, I set to work. He had another client come when I was there, from Shelbourne. A 2015 Ford Edge that is rusting in a few places plus a dent in the driver’s door that needs fixing. Nice couple and a nice paying job for Mitch. (and me).

The plants don't look overly healthy but the tomatos do

“You and me, girl”, he says. We are working and bringing in money. 😊 It was 12 noon when I said goodbye and I signed his calendar with my hours, we went over what he owed me to date before the new pay wage begins. I should be caught up soon. As I was ready to go to Ptooties, the sky opened up and we had a downpour. Rather than standing, waiting for it to stop, I ran for it. Seems I’m doing that a lot lately! I was hungry and ready for a coffee and some lunch.

The peppers are looking awesome

At home, I changed and took care of both of those things. So, that was a 4 hour work day, just enough for me. The rain stopped and then returned a couple of times but other than being surprised Bill didn’t come home early, I took it in stride. I had no plans to be working outside at anything. I started my post and played my online games. There were a couple of Youtube videos that had been sent to me, one from Audrey and one from Dr. Berg, a keto clip. Both were very good and I shared Dr. Berg’s with Donna.

Then I sat and worked on a crossword puzzle until I got a text that Bill was on his way home. By then, the rain had stopped and I’d walked down to get the mail and bring the recycle bin in. Up on the berm, the vegetable garden is looking good, happy for the rain although 2 lettuce plants are kaput. Too bad, I was enjoying the leaf lettuce for my lunches. Inside again, I dusted the Suite, company tomorrow.

A simple but filling supper

Bill returned home around 5:30 and sat for a bit while we shared our day with each other. He didn’t want to sit too long as we desperately needed fresh water. He drove over to the Acreage before 6 and I started getting supper ready. Tonight, we were having Instant Pot chicken thighs and corn on the cob. It was ready shortly after 6:30 and it was perfect. I couldn’t eat both thighs, there is so much meat, so I will save one for a lunch this week.

Ice cream, choke cherry jelly and nuts

Bill finished with the water transfer and we did dishes. Our tank was registering 0 before supper so yup, I’d say we were desperate for a fill. All windows are open and it is very nice in here. The temperature is 18C/64F. It has been a while since we’ve had ice cream together as dessert so I opened the Chapman’s container that we bought over a week ago. We’ve been so good at forgetting it was there! We sat and watched some tv and I worked on my blog.

After dishes, I got the vacuum out and ran through the rv. Bill offered to do it as he knows it isn’t my favourite thing but he’d worked a full day so I took care of it. There was no wind to speak of and when I looked out around 8 pm, the sun was ready to say goodnight. This was a good day back to work and I had no regrets about the vacation coming to an end. I hope you’ve had a nice day too!

Good night from the Ridge

Thank you for visiting us today.

  1. We've got a heat wave hitting us this week, but I know it won't last. It will probably head your way too.

    Take care and stay well!

  2. Nice to be back in the swing of things.
If the Stone Chip has not started to crack outward it can be repaired with no deductible.
It was Four Hundred Deductible for our truck. Guess it's a different Insurance Company.
Be Safe and Enjoy the cooler temperatures.

    It's about time.

    1. It is indeed!
We knew this couldn't be repaired. We have a 'disappearing deductible' clause or something like that that gives us 40% of the 500$ ded.
I'm sure everyone's is different depending on what you want to pay per month?

  3. We live near a big gravel quarry. A lot of folks have issues with chips and dings and broken windshields. Go after the haulage company (if you know who it is) for your deductible.

    1. Really? I never knew that you could do that! I doubt Bill saw the company name but he sure saw the rock coming!! Too late.

    2. Two of our neighbours have successfully recovered their deductible. You'd think these drivers would slow the heck down. They even ran our former mail lady off the road where she perished.

  4. Heat wave here. Today it reached 36 C and the poor air conditioner is running pretty near steady.

Hope you can get the chip fixed easily.

    God bless.
